Whenever I have the slightest urge of playing the game, it vanishes at my first game of encountering a longsword fighter. It's crazy that I have no problem with any other weapon in the game as this one.

It's not about it's damage or ripostle damage or anything. Nerfing that will never change what's wrong with this weapon.

What I care is blocking with longsword requires no skill. They just press right click and look at you and the game does the rest. They will attack you once or twice if they feel generous than start pressing right click extremely skillfully, crouch and look towards your weapon. With some of the weapons and how they attack, it's nearly guaranteed that your weapons some part will touch theirs at some point in the fight, and it only needs to touch it once.

Like is it too hard to make blocking TIME based instead of positional in a game where you can't choose the way you are attacking from? With some weapons animations it's nearly impossible to not hit their weapon if they have more than 2 brain cells.

In my opinion blocking should require YOU to be skillfull and place good timed blocks and should have a counter play in return where also you can reblock it and return it back.

I remember getting excited when I saw another longsword user in dungeonborne because the fight was guaranteed to show some skill if I lost to them. The parries required timing and you had CHARGE ATTACKS to break through their blocks (which was also parriable just harder).

Conculusion after my rant;

I know the devs are not going to change blocking mechanics with how much they love positional blocking. It would take years anyway with this development speed. So, just give weapons charge attacks which go through shields/parries but that is bad DPS wise and has to be charged and has some counter play in return. Or just make blocking TIME based, shouldn't be that hard

Its all good, first wipe in a while that I plan to play a bunch of. So a little bit of extra time is not an issue. I do think (and I said this before I stopped playing the last time), that you should underpromise and over deliver. Something like "We expect it to be 8 hours." And then turn around and be like "Oh it was only 7" or whatever the data for past wipes has been, if you can expect having a problem. It would allow you to look like the heroes for delivering earlier than what was expected.

The latest delay to a new patch for Dark and Darker has people losing their minds again, and honestly it’s getting a bit ridiculous. Every time something gets pushed back, a chunk of the player base jumps straight to complaining like they’re owed instant updates, instead of realizing this stuff takes time to get right. It’s one thing to be frustrated, but a lot of it just comes off as people being crybabies about it, acting like the devs are doing it on purpose. Meanwhile, actual issues keep getting buried under all the noise. The Fighter, especially longsword builds, continues to feel underpowered compared to meta picks. The longsword’s skill ceiling is high but the payoff just isn’t there, leaving players who actually master it at a disadvantage rather than rewarding precision and timing. It’d be nice if more people focused on that kind of stuff instead of just whining every time there’s a delay.

I’m saying this as someone who ONLY plays Ranger and Druid, so yeah, I actually have to AIM, POSITION, and THINK instead of holding W and mashing one button.

Fighter is completely out of control right now, and the longsword is the biggest joke of skill expression this game has ever seen.

Oh wow, you parried. Congrats. You pressed right click at chest level and the game played itself for you. The longsword turns every mediocre Fighter into a walking “oops I win” machine. Miss? Doesn’t matter. Bad spacing? Doesn’t matter. Brain turned off? Still doesn’t matter. Just fish for a parry and instantly delete someone who actually outplayed you for 30 seconds straight.

Meanwhile, as Ranger or Druid, I’m:

Managing spacing perfectly

Tracking cooldowns

Using terrain

Landing skillshots

Playing neutral like it’s a fighting game

And what does the Fighter do? Plate armor, infinite sustain, sprint at Mach 5, and accidentally parry my entire kit with one animation. If I make ONE mistake, I’m dead. Fighters can make five and still win because the longsword forgives everything.

The worst part? Fighters act like they’re mechanical gods. Bro, you didn’t “outplay” anyone. The weapon did it for you. Longsword is the Dark and Darker equivalent of training wheels welded onto a tank.

There is zero risk, insane reward, and no meaningful counterplay unless you’re also playing Fighter or abusing the same garbage. This is not healthy for the game. It’s pushing out skill-based classes and rewarding the laziest, most autopilot playstyle imaginable.

Like, I am very curious the drop chances for artifacts from pile. I am interested in the concept of squire to riches (I know it was in last wipe. But I was too late to start so I never did last wipe). And I am interested in squire royale. All of it seems like very interesting things that I was interested in before I stopped playing.

Dont get me wrong, I have ran every artifact back when I played and I enjoyed artifact arena. But I much prefer the concept of squire to hero, and building up a single set through several runs. I think being able to start that climb with everyone on equal footing sounds amazing.

Moreover, I think a lot of what I haev been seeing about changes, and new content (Like the boss, and a few wipes ago, the lava map). Has shown me that they do have plans to add things. Even if its slow. So, as always I want the best for this game, and I think in a long time it is finally realligning with what I want to play.

I, as any sane person, am afraid of barbarians, specifically fighting and approaching them. As such, I’d like some tips to help me avoid prolonged engagements with that class. I’d like to avoid all interaction, but I know that I’d at some point need to push and or defend against and interact with barbs within the dungeon, so I’ve devised a plan to help me isolate myself as best as possible, while still keeping my money up, from barbs. I cannot have more than 5 seconds to attack each in a one on one conflict with a barb. Now, this only is targeted to barbarians, so fighters, rangers etc. don’t count. If say, my opponent in combat gets to their 6th second and I’m on my 5th, I just need to swiftly rat form, or do something to get out of it while not fighting them, like maybe turning around and doing that thing the discord does and yell about balance and quit. S D F!

yee thats a valid point, content has been slow but the recent additions are all pretty good - the squires to riches mode was a great addition to the game and the added artifact chances will definetly draw more people in. Its also gonna be no extracts till last floor so you likely get folks who will go deeper with ya in random queue. 2nd floor goblins looks awesome too and im glad they finally did a 2nd level for it:D

Also i'm pretty sure fireball got buffed when i keep seeing ppl lose their minds over this being a nerf. You don't get splash anymore on direct hits, which was 10 damage. But the direct hit was increased by 15. You still get all the scaling from your will/mag dmg bonus etc, the only thing you lose is any additional magic damage you built. Which until you build at least +5 total, it's literally stronger with this change. Am i wrong somehow?
