Part of it is that ironmace has historically gone back and forth on the same experimental changes multiple times without any clear direction by the end of it. This is also combined with sdf talking about his "vision" for the game which became an instant meme and an easy thing to make fun of.

The true problem with it is barbs have been busted for a LONG time and it just got worse. The changes to melee and movement really propelled them forward and some classes don’t have anything to deal with it. He’s a fun fact: when you are holding a melee weapon you lose 20 movement speed. When you swing that weapon you lose an additional 20 movement speed. For a total of 40 move speed loss. When casting a spell with a spellbook, you lose 72 move speed. Yet, they took move speed modifiers out of the game and made melee much stronger.

Additionally, they made it so that you don’t get slowed down as much while swinging a melee weapon. As soon as barb activates rage, he’s faster than you too in most cases. When I’m playing sorc or wiz and have nothing in my hand, why can a barbarian with a bardiche chase me down and hit me? That makes no sense. All while wearing a full northern tunic.

Yeah I think they need to take away one of barbs stat checks. When balancing a class, you can’t give him everything. He has crazy move speed, crazy damage, and crazy health. One of those three have to go. I vote for move speed since it doesn’t make sense for a barb with all that armor and heavy weapon to outrun most other classes.

Correct. And what does rage do? Move speed bonus. So while it doesn’t directly affect swing speed, it affects your move speed. With the slow applied to a hit, if you get hit once, it’s hard to get away from the other swings.

Additionally your range is slightly increased while you whirlwind. So you have that as well.

You didn’t even test with the double axe which is what most are using. It’s even slower with normal swings, making that figure I gave you closer.

I mean Whirlwind allows Barbarian to hit 3 times in the time it would take him to do 1 normal swing and recover.

I love that the devs changed combat considerably, this wipe was the best fun I've had since ruins map first came out and it gave me hope.. but they keep making the same mistake every wipe: very broken class/skill/perks and they don't fix them on time. The big flow of people returning to the game quit a few weeks into the wipe, being frustrated of the same things that made the quit in the first place.

Every wipe, the same story... the cycle continues until less and less people return and their push for skins will not be profitable anymore.

I've been saying this since EA: the need to be on top of the balance. It's the #1 pain point of the game.

that shit is so aggravating, i recently finally figured out the fix for my stuttering that would cause my hits to legit phase through entities and get me killed, i had to disable my anti-aliasing
