They removed some rolls from gear.

But made it so you can socket base stats like str and vig on gear which are very strong.

So the gear gap is not less, it just is easier to get good gear since you can socket the best stats

Gear should matter but the tough part is that other extraction games are long range and can make better use of cover, aiming skills, repositioning, utility, etc.

With DaD being a close to mid-range game, it makes balancing gear very difficult. on one end you have gear feeling way too impactful and on the other end you have gear not really mattering in PvP.

I think this is especially an issue when it comes to movespeed. a player with better gear tends to have higher movespeed than a lesser geared player regardless of class. So a lesser geared player is easily steamrolled unless they can find an exit or the higher geared player makes enough mistakes. A game with longer ranged combat makes taking or leaving fights much easier.

Im no game dev so idk exactly how i would "fix" gear, but im hopeful that the new blocking mechanics which actually reward successful blocks will increase skill expression and allow for lesser geared players to come out on top if they outplay their opponent. It should be a challenge, but it should also be achievable.

Druid in theory isn't a problem, the problem was their massive mobility advantage. If you want to fix druid, remove panthers jump ability and just turn it into a melee dot ability, so bear form be the hard hitting but slow attack/tank form. Panther becomes the faster attack dps form, and also remove chicken form entirely and replace it with an "astral" form that increases spell damage and becomes a caster form. That will fix druids mobility problem and make it so it's a lot harder for them to leave a fight, recover quick, then get right back into the fight
