They've been pretty consistently working at the foundation of the game, when i say foundation i mean boring stuff, bugfixes n shit.
Balance is eh, but better than the past by a long shot.

The game is certainly very same-y but IMO if you are itching for dark and darker, it's a great time to play and you'll probably find yourself having fun.

Only problem really being is player count and end of wipe

Do people actually have preferences of gear when making kits? I just go for items with split static stats as you can get higher base stats if you do it for all of your gear, and then if I'm lacking stats I get those from rings and cloak

It depends heavily on the class, but that's a good general rule yeah.

For example, Occultist boots are good in a vacuum. But for a Wizard/Warlock, you need enough move speed to survive against the meta you're going to encounter. And +11 MS boots (with max roll) don't really cut it at the top end. Movespeed limits kits the most.

Usually you're looking for sources of some stat and comparing which slot's options can provide that but yes the role of ornaments and cape are mostly to provide stat flexibility.

I agree that higher artifact drops felt much better than grinding a boss 70 times to have a little over a 50% chance to get 1 artifact. I will say you should keep in mind there's not really any other form of PvE progression besides spam farming HR bosses over and over again for the extremely rare artifact drops. Without those, there's not really anything to do besides acquire more gold. Which you can do without ever entering a lobby.

Point being, another problem gets introduced if artifacts are substantially more common: there's not much left to do in the game besides fight other people. And there's already Arena for pure pvp.

That being said, for the love of God they should double the drop rates to 6%/3%/1.5%, (GK/other bosses/key rooms - basically).

It's very pretty. The water system is cool, even if infuriating at release and still annoying now. But the majority of classes are 90-95% similar to how they played in the first playtests. I don't think PvP is particularly... bad... Like, solos has a lot of skill with certain 1v1s. Trios feels like the better coordinated team is going to win. But I don't feel like the class I'm playing is important. In HR, gear is so much of a class's power budget that I feel like every class becomes smooshed together depending on their best role in pvp.

Big 2h melee one shot. Kiting ranged poke. Whirlwind of steel and death slasher. Etc.

And maybe it's my bias here, but playing a support / healer role in a game where my full tank teammate dies in 2-3 hits doesn't feel great. At least Cleric has insane spell damage I guess 🤷

It wasn't 70% of his health, but it was well over half according to fighter's memory. It was a Legendary Bardiche with 59 damage (+2 roll, +3 from perk) with around 70% physical damage bonus.

He had 46 strength (31%), got +15 strength from rage (40.5%), and had ~12% physical damage bonus from his equipment (52.5%). Then there's Berserker. Tl;dr, we estimate he received 20% physical damage from Berserker, bringing us up to 72.5%.

A total of 102 damage before PDR. Reckless is 75% armor penetration. I don't know how much he had on his gear. But he was reducing my 60% PDR fighter to close to nothing.

So yeah, it was well over half the health of a very well geared PDR fighter on a body hit (Bardiche's 2nd combo hit).

Well it's an extraction looter game. The goal isn't to never die and I understand that. The problem is the speed of dying at the highest gear level forces classes to fit into samey roles. You're not playing your class as much as you're playing a flavor of Dex 1h-Melee, Ranged Kiting Poke, or 2h-one shot.

(I don't view this as being a problem in Squire or really even Normals; the game pacing is much better there, imo, and classes feel very distinct)

A discussion topic in my DaD group recently has been how awesome it would be if there were more than 3-4 modules on each map that rewarded you (in some way) for going to them. Right now it's mostly hoards, bosses, and key rooms that drag players to that module. And sometimes quests, although a lot of the HR pvper types don't really care about those past crafting affinity.

Stuff like this is perfect. I don't think every module needs to be some super inventive new mechanic - but just small things like you're mentioning here to a handful of modules would be 10/10.

It's not something I think is the biggest problem or first change I would make, but it would make the dungeons feel more engaging 🙂 I remember how I felt exploring new modules when I first started playing. That can't be replicated of course, but learning that most of them are wastes of time compared to the high value POI is a little sad.

the reason that the zone is "needed" is because theres no arbitrary hotspot points on the map, think games like tarkov for example, make more zones that players have a reason to go to rather than forcing people together

I must admit that IM did an insanely good job on watermap. It’s still not perfect but a lot better than I expected. Underwater pvp/pve is mad fun if there only wouldnt be those fucking lags that they brought in now. This map is a great addition to the game and adds three dimensional gameplay, which is really refreshing if you only used to the flat gameplay for thousand of hours
