Partial controller fix since last patch. This fix will reenable trigger function. Go into steam controller dark and darker settings. Edit layout. Triggers. analog output trigger. Select right for right and left for left. Hope this helps.

You can level up characters easily by doing quests

you should know after a single game or two if the playstyle of class feels good to you or not, additional perks will only enhance it and to fully feel the class you need at least blue BIS so you can gain some dynamism

Fighter is the goto for me but this whole game is completely preference based class wise
(until knobs get twisted and a class temporarily becomes overpowered)

also you unlock everything at level 15, 20 is just market access

That’s why I recommend around level 20, makes it easy to buy stuff for your characters.
You could just swap at 15 but I think it’s a nice QoL to grind the extra 5 levels lol

for PvE, i like classes that can deal damage at range (all classes can melee), and I like healing, so I like Warlock, Druid, Cleric, Wizard, Ranger.
i think that Sorcerer is fun and cool, but it doesn't have the raw power of magic missile or the utility of the light spell
Bard can unlock things. Rogue can unlock things and detect+unlock traps.
Fighter gives you the ability to use every weapon in the game, and is good at shields
Barbarian can break things

i mean i love the wizard class alot but the thing is i get ambushed quite alot which is unfortenate and idk if i should keep leveling up or change

Figure out how your getting ambushed and take precautions, I’ve been trying to reflect on the moments up to my death and it helps a lot.
Killcam does that too.

Did I leave a door open? are there dead mobs in the room I’m going into, did I hear walking here previously and the person hasn’t audibly left the room?

There’s always signs, just really subtle ones.
