I'd recommend playing pve and learning the mob attack patterns and the modules. I would also add some squire to hero game play in to give you a baseline pvp experience and then I would branch into norms

Playing the maps, you'll learn where the bosses are. As for being ready, that's just about going in and trying. Don't be afraid to lose anything, don't be scared to take risks. I'm not saying that, I'm just saying you shouldn't leap over the large amount of intermediate game knowledge you get by playing and learning
