Yes lets remove gear stats again(almost killed the game last time), make it so everyone can break doors and have ttk be basically 0. Yes this is my medieval dungeoneering fantasy with mobs monsters and epic feeling loot, wait a sec this surely isn't a re-run of the roman colosseum with sdf as bootleg Ceasar. Surely not....

My man you need a better creativity or maybe you just aren't thinking cause this is what anyone and everyone woulda expected from these changes. Just make a balance system in terms of scaling via either class or stats for each que, its not that hard to differentiate between the ques (league does this with game modes sure bigger company but it can be done.) It'll take development time to make this newer system but its well worth it over killing your game and making yourself and your fans miserable because you can't deal with it.

People complain too much. Dark and Darker is one of the greatest medieval fantasy pvp games to ever come out. The servers are smooth and lobbies are full. Ironic how the playerbase are all 30+ yr old neckbeards who grew up spending $60 on games that never got updated.

Once, Dark and Darker was a beacon for gamers hungry for something bold. Its brutal dungeons, thrilling escapes, and intoxicating loot hunts drew in thousands. It wasn’t just a game; it was an experience. Sneaking past monsters, outsmarting enemies, barely escaping with your life—it created unforgettable moments.

But now? Now it feels like we’re witnessing a slow, painful death.

The spark is gone. The lobbies once full of energy are quiet. The removal of solo and duo queues—core elements of the experience—has shattered the game for many. Trio-only lobbies were a blow to those who valued flexibility. Streamers have walked away, some pointing blame at the lead developer.

The gear system, once full of promise, has been gutted. Unique builds and creative strategies have been replaced by rigid metas. What once made adventurers feel different now feels the same.

Even worse are the broken promises. Features like quivers, new maps, and class variety were teased, only to vanish. The Discord server—once vibrant—is now a battlefield. Chants demanding leadership change echo throughout the community. A copy-and-paste revolt is underway, driven by a desperate player base.

All of this under the shadow of Ironmace’s recent legal loss. Financial strain, damaged reputation, and fading faith paint a grim picture. With sales dropping and hope running out, it’s hard to imagine a comeback.

This game meant something. It was something. But unless someone steps in to right the course, we may be watching the end.

It’s been a wild ride, but maybe it’s time to accept the truth: Dark and Darker may soon live up to its name… not as a game, but as a memory, lost in the shadows.

If SDF is unwilling to part with the games direction, unfortunately I feel I must.

After months of erratic decision-making, it’s official: SDF, our lead developer, has brainworm. This condition makes terrible ideas feel like brilliant ones. Recent symptoms include:
• Removing Solos and Duos:
SDF called these beloved modes “a crutch for antisocial players.” Now, everyone is forced into squads with random teammates who will likely kill you faster than the enemies.
• Deleting Stat Rolls:
All gear now has static stats, making common loot as strong as legendary items. As a result, the Goldsmith, designed to use raid gems to enhance gear, is now utterly useless.

First of all, I have no intention of disrespecting any PVE or PVP players.

However, from the perspective of gameplay alone, the PVE content of this game is fixed. After you have mastered the methods of dealing with each monster, will you choose to enter the HR mode to practice against more powerful monsters or continue to be a monster-killing machine in the PVE mode?

Another question is, will you look for treasures or open boxes to seek equipment in the PVE mode? If so, why are you unwilling to enter the HR mode to challenge more powerful monsters and seek more valuable loot? Or is it that for you, PVE mode is fun as long as you kill monsters? I believe that some people will feel fun from killing monsters and can vent their emotions.

But if the PVE content is over (novice stage), won’t entering the HR mode to challenge more powerful monsters have more sense of accomplishment?

My personal understanding of the game is that the value of gold coins is linked to the value of equipment. If the value of equipment decreases, people will think that the value of gold coins has decreased, and will stop getting more when they feel that it is enough, because at that time the gold coins will become worthless.

I don't know whether the fun of PVE players is to explore the game content or to find loot (in a relatively safe situation). But I think the changes to the equipment in the game will also affect PVE players, but the impact is not significant.

Honestly? I'm here for hot monster fighting action in an immersive setting/environment. PvP disinterests me, because of how clunky it is. Conqueror's blade provides better hack and slash. Fighting games ala street fighter or blazblue provide better skillful melee. Classic fps or battle royales are more thrilling loot kill escape experiences. Does it get repetitive? Sure, but it's relaxing and blows off stress.

Somewhat okay changes. Modifiers need to be back in for sure just remove move speed and get rid of the shit rolls no one wants. Instead of having 4 on a legendary do 3 if you want the gear to not be so op. Rogue didn’t need to be nerfed into oblivion like this he was one of the best boss characters. I just got done playing a few hours and uninstalled after a nightmare crossbowman killed me from across the map while I was wearing epics and legendaries that had vigor and strength on them. To be honest, the game was never great (though it could be fun, it always lacked balance, direction and content). It just had the potential to become amazing, and looked like it would get there, which resulted in a massive cult following.

What we are seeing now isn't people being upset that an incredible game was ruined. It's that they are finally realizing that IM is incapable of delivering the game people thought Dark and Darker would become. A lot are just coping thinking that if we return the game to a previous state, it will be great. But that doesn't really solve much.

The gear system, once vibrant, feels hollow. Variety gave way to sameness. Creative builds have vanished beneath stale, rigid metas.

Worse still: broken promises. Quivers, new maps, class updates all teased, none delivered. The Discord, once lively, has become hostile. Cries for leadership change echo daily. A revolt is underway, driven by fading hope.

The game play loop was damn near perfect before this update. All we needed was more CONTENT, not nerfs to the loot table or nerfs to the ease of playing with other people or the absurdly dumb decision to remove modifiers and making a entire game mechanic obsolete. I usually keep my mouth shut and just play the game but goddamn you ruined my dopamine fix by destroying this game! It was damn near perfect and 8/10 chests would give me that shot of dopamine I craved. Now the game is boring, lifeless and just another shitty battle royale. Get it together and fix this mess.

The truth is, to make the whole game function properly, monster stats, crafting recipes, map designs, etc. all need corresponding adjustments. This is a massive amount of work. honestly what is sdf doing, imagine a McDonalds employee quits his job and decides to make his own burger shop and even though it initially only has 1 burger it becomes one of the most celebrated burger spots in the past decade and eventually they add a few more menu items that people enjoy. but then imagine you go there one day and order your usual and the owner says. actually we don't have that anymore in fact we only have one burger right now and it only has onions. and when you ask why. when he sees the data that at least 66% of his customers aren't in favor of this change, the owner says " because thats how i like it, this is my vision of a good burger, here lets try my vision together!"
