The value of gear actually decreases over time as there isn't really a gear sink with the Goblin Merchant around. Instead the value of gold itself falls over time as the total gold in the economy increases. And there isn't really a gold sink either.

If you complete quests the vendors sell higher quality gear.

If you buy gear on trade it's not really a gold sink outside of the trade fee as that gold stays in the economy, just transfers to another player.

Buying from vendors is a gold sink as the gold is permanently removed from the economy.

A game can be hardcore with fun moments, it doesn't have to be all sweaty, chugging mountain dew in my mom's basement with no life type of game. Having a good balance is key to having a good game, you can lose shit and be sweaty in high roller, norms is for people who want to be casual, the 124s is for those who want a little challenge but still don't want to sweat their asses off. People RPing and teaming up on you is, in my opinion, a decent addition to the game being "hardcore" with how much it can switch up the game.

A hardcore game is hard with little forgiveness, you are right about that, and this game is that, you go into high roller and you make one small mistake or mess up, you lose it all. It's funny you should mention Tarkov because tarkov doesn't have casual modes like we do, and it's due to that fact and it's bad management that it's dying. We are trying to avoid that, if you want hardcore it's an option, it's called high-roller. It can advertise as hardcore because it is but it's also casual, it can do both and advertise as either one.

It depends on what you mean by hardcore since we have different usages of the term. Dark and Darker is hardcore in the sense that if you lose you lose a lot of character progress. But hardcore is also sometimes used to mean 'extremely difficult' or 'very hard to learn'. Like Kingdom Come Deliverance is called hardcore or Mordhau is called hardcore but neither have much in the way of permanent progression loss.

It's the same with tarkov, what's a couple runs to get a shit kit or something to kill a really geared player? You don't run a risk of not running raids anymore(you don't in tarkov either) you run the risk of not having that bis kit anymore, you run the risk of losing something you spent hours and hours grinding to get good rolls on, and yeah you can run hr after 2-3 runs but are you going to be able to hold your own against others in hr? You have to be skilled to do so, which is a hard point to get to if you don't get a chance to practice, which is where the casual stuff can come into play. You can rat but your still probably not gonna win the fight against skilled good geared players nor will you really have fun that way. There's no real consequence in any game, it's pixels, none of it matters, just play the game, have fun, do whatever, not every hardcore game has to have you go through ball crushing torture and soul extinguishing grinding just to lose it all so it can be "hardcore" just enjoy it.

I wanted to make a few comments here since I liked your latest video talking about the 101 things that could be added to Dark and Darker.
For the most part, they're all solid, and I had a few similar ideas, but some don't make sense.
Like the first one:

1. You say Troll Pelts should NOT drop in <25 gs lobbies yet you want Golden Keys to drop more often and be found in <25. This seems pointless as farmers would just switch from Troll to Skelly Champs and the issue would get even worse.
2. Regarding gold storage and stash, I would personally like it more if gold became stored in a separate currency tab, and gold coin chests and bags became storage expansions and in-raid inventory expansions (bag=backpack). If you died, you would lose the bag and would have to obtain it again, whereas the gold chest could expand your inventory by +1 per character, in addition to all the inventory expansions you can buy with gold.
3. If levers are added to open stairs to the next level of the dungeon, I feel like they'll just be camped to high heaven by Rogues and Windlass Rangers, the current situation is bad, but it will likely not be much better if this is added. Warlock can already open a portal in <1 second, while Rogue takes around 5 seconds. I think all classes should take around the same time to interact with these important points. Additionally, I think the correct move to test would be to bring back the randomly spawning portals from the old days. Those were cool.
4. Make special craftable items easier to craft. Right now, only the top 1% of people are crafting things like Grimslayer, since the materials are so rare. Make mats drop more often as it would encourage people to loot and craft.
5. Add more interesting crafts and interactables. We know more throwables are on the way, I'd just like to see more traps like caltrops and more random traps around the dungeons like ballista tripwires and poison dart wall traps.

6. I think the devs are highly against this, but I think it should be tested to give everyone 2x-3x of current HP pools. Weekly balance changes of +/-2% of a stat or damage are pointless when everyone has around 120 HP and still dies in 2 or 3 hits regardless of gear. Why not try out longer TTK since then you can actually work on fine-tuning balance. (PVE and spell damage would have to be heavily modified for this change). Interacting with doors should change here too, as with more HP you could just close doors more easily and run, so any damage taken while interacting with a door should stop the action, and opening doors should take longer for all classes.
7. The way we fight bosses should be changed drastically. I think there should be a mechanic that forces the doors to the boss to shut, and no one can enter or leave until whoever is fighting the boss dies, or the boss dies. Additionally, the bossfight should be initiated with an event, so that the game can calculate how many people are in the room, and therefore scale the boss accordingly, while also scaling it for solo, duo, trio to begin with. Plus, there should be a boss enrage timer for all bosses, approx. 2-3 minutes after the fight starts, the boss gains 5x dmg, attack speed, move speed, etc. (This is to stop griefers). This would stop the rampant third partying while making you commit to the fight, and rewarding you for killing the boss.
8. Consumables rarity should be squished and made into only one rarity (common). There's too much meaningless rarity of things like healing potions (grey-purple) that barely changes per level. Make it all one rarity instead, add more crafting options to be able to craft them all, and round them all up to common quality grade. It's too much for the loot economy IMO to find green and blue healing pots when they don't really matter too much.

9. Linking to your idea for interactables that reveal parts of the map: There should be (for instance) a dead adventurer explorer corpse that is holding a map that you can find, looting the map allows you to reveal a random room or portion of the map that the explorer has found. This would narrow down your search for the room you are looking for.
10. As for the class changes, ever since this game came out, and as we were lead to believe by the devs originally, I always thought we would get skill/talent trees down the line. These would allow for things like Rogue to specialise in 1 of 3 talent trees. One would be a Marauder subclass, allowing Rogue to be a high-HP melee fighter, with Riposte on Rapier and Silence on Hand Crossbow. Assassin could be the 2nd pick, allowing Rogue to dual wield daggers and Ambush with both at once, being fast but low HP. And Thief could be the Pickpocket+Lockpicking pacifist looter. All would have their own unique items and skills/perks.

You are most likely in the beginner dungeons still which is less populated. Keep playing improve etc build your wealth because once you have a certain amount of game time you will be removed from the beginner dungeons and thrown to the wolves and find lots of Players

You missed my point entirely. My point was that bard scales to an oppressive level as he gears more. Many classes scale much more linear than he does since they lack the self buffs he can give himself. He can also afford to skip on spending money on stats that are covered by his self buffs. He can build a lil less action speed and take more hp/strength/PDR since he has Aria etc.
