I actually funnily enough know nothing about Clock Tower 3 proper, I've only seen up to the other 'Clock Tower 3' (Clock Tower 2: Struggle Within)
My comparisons were meant to be between Haunting Grounds and those point and click Clock Towers, not necessarily exactly because of the format because obviously it's completely different ways of playing but more so all the core mechanics and the core design that they translated into a more standard format and modernized a bit, for the time anyways

When you were talking about the panic mechanic, the game being about running away and hiding, the scripted events, the puzzles and all that, it's all things that were already present in Clock Tower surprisingly

was the panic stuff in early clock towers? in the nitro rad videos I only recall it coming up in 3
like the original had a single "condition" meter that arguably is pulling double duty but it's still mostly health
and it doesn't do the audiovisual distortion or make the character harder to control (just less able to run or tackle, which is more like HG stamina than HG panic)
maybe it's because I have played other point-and-clicks that had a scripted "chase" thing going on, but it was usually "now there's a timer and you must solve the puzzle before the timer runs out", so I see that as a standard point-and-click thing, and the early Clock Towers are the first step towards making that the core gameplay instead of a one-off gimmick
while CT3 is really the first one that crosses over into "the RE guys made a run-and-hide game", especially since it was literally the only CT made by Capcom
oh right, and even CT3 doesn't do the visual distortion on max panic, that's an HG first, and something I don't recall seeing elsewhere until the Amnesias

Yep, in Clock Tower 1 there's a portrait of Jennifer at the bottom of the screen that turns different colors when she's in different 'levels' of panic and it may cause her to run slower or even trip and fall depending on her health, in Clock Tower 2 it's the color of the cursor instead and it works differently but I don't remember very well how it worked, the point is the mechanic was already present as a staple of the games but of course Haunting Grounds does it differently since it's a different format of game

Of note is that apparently you can only get rid of the ||Sun and Blood Elder Scrolls|| if you side with the Dawnguard; you can sell them to Dexion after the DLC's storyline. If you side with the vampires, you're stuck with them in your inventory until the end of time.

The tradeoff with more resolution is that you can get lower frame rates with graphically demanding games. This is where the personal preference comes in is if you prefer better looking graphics over frame rates, or frame rates for the smoother feel over graphics.

Unrelated, but I'm glad to see a western horror game embrace this type of stupid shenanigans that are so common in most japanese games in general, up there with the UFO and Dog stuff from SH, apparently Sam Lake had to literally fight for this sequence to be in the game and I couldn't be happier that he did because the entire sequence is incredible and fits the completely bonkers surreality of the dark place so well

mostly it falls into the standard open world trap of too much travel time that's just aim at waypoint and hold the move button
which is why people give the batmobile in that game so much flak
City is both much denser, and the grapple + glide movement is much more engaging even when you do need to get to the other side of the map
but other than that, IMO the missions of Knight are still perfectly solid
though you've likely already played a lot of similar ones in Asylum and City

I'm not an expert on the Arkham games as I haven't played all of them and I didn't even finish Asylum, I just know a bit about them and enough to remember that the general consensus a majority of people have is that City's story is much better and a lot more focused but that Knight's gameplay was the peak of the entire franchise so it's interesting to hear the opinion that Asylum and City are much better than Knight
Weirdly I also think people don't pay much attention to Asylum probably because it wasn't an open world game like the other two but I think it worked pretty well, the sense of progression is pretty nice

IDK if Knight gameplay was anywhere better than city, maybe, the main problem is that every fight in city was good, while 50% of Knight was spent in vehicle sections shooting drones or remote controlled tanks or whatever else, which was lame and boring
So maybe Knight was better as far as the fighting system, but it was comparatively a much smaller part of the game compared to city
At least up until I played and got bored
At least in my experience.
I imagine to someone that liked the vehicle sections it would probably have been a better time
