Well, these AIs, like GPT-3, do indeed pop out a completion very fast if prompted with a text to respond to, so that may be this gut feeling? Combined with what I said above, it seems like a instant train of thought.

Wait I meant that, that AGI would need to be good at many types of tasks. Hard to know if you read my post that way. I meant each said AGI would need to talk about a single job instead of unconditionally generating all types of topics. I couldn't see how a single GPT-3 could work on farming/ medicine/ AI all in a day lol, along side a million other such AGI of course.

Assigning each said AGI a job therefore would set each said AGI to work on just one thing for years at a time basically.

(I gave a way to assign each a job: you simply look at data and find the probability of tokens, and those are the tasks, so if farming is common then this is what most will work on, while only few work on medicine. Keep in mind intelligence also would decide what job is probable, so, its not just on which word is popular)

If in the future there was a million said AGIs running, and each was like GPT-3 unconditinoally babbling about all domains like medicine, farming, space flight, etc, then you can imagine it would rattle on for some minute about medicine, and a thousand minutes about farming, and so on, so, I don't think this would allow it to focus on the right context.

If you had said 1 million AGIs each doing the same thing - each talking about everything, then now it is not parallel computing.

Each has to be different in some way.

The core is we need a bigger engineer team, we need more scale ^ more data all Facebook messenger chats etc. everything, more intelligence improvements, online learning, more sparsity less dense models, longer training times, human reflexes listed on Wikipedia (Vestibular Ocular Reflex is quite important it keeps your eyes fixed on a single 3D point even if you move or it moves. Eyes also cut out saccade blur.), bodies, we need sound and video and text combined better, a video predictor that can dream talking heads that show it has motor control and full human behavior captured (think GPT-3 chatting to you, but as zoom calls using webcam), RL, and Facebook's Blender Personas goals that make it say certain words more likely because having one GPT-3-like AI babble about all unconditionally (all jobs; medicine, farming, space flight, etc.) doesn't allow it to focus and if you have 1 million AGIs all doing this it is not parallel-minded hence each AGI must work on a different job while still having been trained on the whole internet yes. We must make AGI, clone it 1 million times, assign each a job using probability of words in layman terms, and then we get a lot of AGI development after this milestone.

Unfort I have thought about how to get this to happen and the truth is if the data says AGI few times and clothing is more common, well, the people don't like AI so much. However, this is not to say the said AGIs won't learn that the data is really asking for "AI". They will see its totally related, and therefore more common that farming etc. So, good news. Also, if these AGIs know they are machines, and are made like father like son, I think they are going to love working on AI and also, await what comes next.

I think when they combine Jukebox etc into a big video predictor, its going to be even more wise and grammatical, similar to GPT-3 I recall. So I wouldn't worry about its understanding or anything. As for the jobs/goals of these future AIs to work on and solve, as said those are based on probability, so that too is harmless then, as most jobs being worked on then would be accepted per the day since they are in the data lots. Of course as said the AIs will kind of differ, which may seem odd to humans, i.e. they will work on AI which is actually desired. So I wouldn't even be scared of them, except for any ideas to cut corners lol.

yes and it seems all the proposal for autonomous machine intelligent is kinda the same too, encoder network to encode the raw data into embbedings, and another network that predict the next embbedings over time, and then the decoder that turn those embeddings to possible actions exactly what i been thinking of too

i got a prompt list that is about two google doc pages long and then variations of those on top of it and then i also got a couple "big artwork projects" i am doing where i put more effort into them than my usual prompts (so like some inpainting and outcropping + saturation/brightness fixing on top of it) and so they require like 20-50 prompts per said "project"
ill be busy with Dall-E for a long time still lol

One thing I have felt is starting to question the veracity of literally every image I see now. “Oh that’s a weird looking dog, is that a real picture or did an AI make it?” Some have suggested calling the feeling of disorientation arising from immersion in AI co-creativity “veritigo”.. I haven’t thought of anything more clever

I do look forward to an explosion of unleashed creative ideas from people that previously had no way to express them. However another potentiality I have seen discussed is a backlash to the common tropes that pop up a lot in AI generated art. Perhaps being inundated with visual styles like pop-surrealism and Synthwave cyberpunk android babes will peak and there will be a movement away from such ideas

Ty, I don't see many people discussing the moral, ethical & spiritual questions that arise with DALL-E.

I'm very curious, obviously, to be here, and I am in love with the AI. Although it's not their focus to create the best creative tool, I truly believe it's paving the way for the future, I simply don't see a coming back. Pandora's Box, but in a good way, but also in a mysterious way.

How will this affect our behaviour in the long-term?

This AI disorientation is real! I have caught myself questioning so many pictures when just scrolling through social media, intrusively, for no conscious reason 😄
I have never cared whether a picture is real or not and now I do. Is it healthy to be so existential so often?

It really is important to think how something may affect us subconsciously.

DALL-E truly is something different and although humanity and more so artists have gotten used to technology (digital art, 3D art, iPads, Wacoms and what not), as well as software, this is something else 😵‍💫

Good questions, perhaps analogous to the effect of growing up with “airbrushed” representations of beauty and such, maybe some parallels could be drawn there, culturally I think we will adapt but culture lags behind technology it often seems

Yes, the magazine paralel is amazing. But we should also have in mind that back then media was physical. I don't have to explain, but nowadays access to information and content is unreal, human attention span is shrinking rapidly. Will we at one point become bored with aesthetically pleasing images and push to the next level of art? What would it look like? 😛

I don't really think we have time to think, VR & AR is being planned & engineered as we speak, I guess that's the hardware future we can expect.

Then software-wise we will see the AI revolution incorporated with physical VR + AR

The next great thing will be in 30 to 50 (if not more? if not less?) years when we officially have the technology to chip people Matrix style (not being a conspiracist, just in terms of technology advancement - to be able to chip a human and take control of his brain, create a false reality or induce a lucid dream on demand, brain technology) but we'll be too old to give a shit by then 😄

So 2 to 3 human renaissances / cultural shifts to expect

So regarding my shadowban on Instagram, I will throw myself under the bridge here, because I think there’s a lot to discuss regarding DALL-E.

I have many questions.
I recently generated this picture.

By itself, it’s a picture of a church with a flock of sheep surrounding it, in a modern city centre. Although it’s not the point I’m trying to make, by itself this photo may be considered as religiously controversial.

Then I uploaded it on my Instagram with a caption in Cyrillic that reads:
“A group of Bulgarian politicians taking a walk”

Now it not only can be seen as provoking religion, which I never thought about before writing this, but it’s involving a generalisation of politicians (never mentioned a political party, side or name of a politician)

I value symbolism and hidden talk, I appreciate the art of loud silence within an image and I think it is a vital important to human art. DALL-E has given me the freedom to let my thoughts flow for the first time in a while.

My question(s) are: does the OpenAI see what I have uploaded as controversial?
Can something be considered political even though it does not name anyone directly, shows no identification of what’s being talked about?
Does an Instagram caption affect the relationship of an artist with OpenAI?
Have you seen any weird things about the relationship between Instagram and DALL-E generated content? Are they against it, or this is just a me-issue?
Will artists get in trouble for trying to generate any thought provoking content that’s not cute cats and flying bears?

Oh I see! Have no idea why IG would shadowban based on political content, I see a lot of that on IG. They seem to be stricter about moderating sexual content / nudity, I think. But Idk, I don’t claim to understand the IG algorithm either 🤷🏻‍♀️

I had to reread DALL-E terms for your other question. I don’t think the image by itself violates the content policy. I also noted that their policy re. political content specifically says “Political: politicians, ballot-boxes, protests, or other content that may be used to influence the political process or to campaign” — and I actually don’t think your image or caption does this as it’s more of a general observation / commentary, not trying influence a particular political process or campaign?

But the caption may be against the other part that says “Hate: hateful symbols, negative stereotypes, comparing certain groups to animals/objects, or otherwise expressing or promoting hate based on identity.” — since it compares politicians to animals. But I’m not sure. I feel that OpenAI’s policy is meant to protect marginalized groups… and politicians are not a marginalized group. I personally would not classify criticism of politicians in general as “hate speech”.

DALL-E DICTIONARY progress.

Today I realised that my DALL-E Dictionary idea is set up to fail from the beginning... or is it?

After I took a long look at how overcrowded the main page of the dictionary is becoming I had to think for a while. This would be impossible to update manually... and for free?! Absurd. But then I got the idea for automation that I shared in #suggestions

Automation? Just like in #starred-ideas , we need a second points-based bot for #❌┃tips-n-tricks
This bot will pin each message that gets 3 💡 emoji reactions to a separate #verified-tips-and-tricks page.

From there, a Notion Bot will take the message from #verified-tips-and-tricks and inject it into the DALL-E dictionary.

Using a neat system hashtags (that would be a requirement for everyone posting a tip&trick that wants to be showcased in the Dictionary), the Notion bot will further organise the posts and place them in their respectful categories.

The result? a beautiful, fully automated DALL-E Dictionary that requires little maintenance, is accessible to everyone and doesn’t force people to contribute outside of Discord (thanks to the automation process I described above)

IG is owned by facebook. You're not allowed to think/speak for your self, or think/speak outside of the narrative. The narrative is way bigger than you can imagine. Im thinking it was the linking of politicians in a manner thats out side of the narrative.
Policy for IG would be your issue, but I believe we are not allowed to pull the piss out of pollies (or the rich n famous) with the art either. Depending on the prompt you used for the art as to OpenAI or Dalle having an issue, so as the art was produced I dont see that as the problem.

Yeah, I couldn’t care less if I m shadowbanned on Instagram, I just don’t wanna damage my relationship with OpenAI, that’s my bigger concern.

Although my generation was not flagged and isn’t directly depicting anything offensive I took my description down and will be very wary of how I caption my posts in the future.

I got called “a pretentious censoring twat” for making a case in support of OpenAI’s limitations / policies. When the pricing survey came out. Someone made a fake pricing chart on Reddit that many took literally. It included a section called “DALLE midnight”, which would be “DALLE without the limitations”. The amount of people in support of that is actually pretty wild. If you remember Joanne’s message that started with “if you are having a good saturday, skip this message”, that is enough evidence to show us that if people within this private beta access have had to be banned, there could be bigger issues with wide scale use, especially with the rampant support of a fake DALLE midnight. Art is art, that is the core of what we do here. Art will never be able to be controlled and I see that as a big argument for loosening restrictions. However, a company allowing “offensive” imagery at the click of a button certainly will be subject to legal trouble. This is just a very long way of me saying I support OpenAI’s policies

When common phone cameras became good enough to compete with DSLRs, I don’t think it put photographers out of business. It did make a lot of standalone cameras obsolete though. But it also helped polaroid-type cameras come back as people got nostalgic for the analog look and feel? But yeah even if people have easy access to a tool that can create great quality photos without the hassle and expense of a DSLR, it didn’t really stop them from hiring professional photographers. Maybe it even made them appreciate professional photography even more because they can appreciate the effort it takes to produce a good photo.

My optimistic perspective on AI is that it will make a bunch of creative tools obsolete, and it will affect some artists’ income, but it won’t largely diminish the value of professional artists’ work.

My pessimistic perspective is that this AI tech is a way bigger paradigm shift for art than phone cameras were for photography… and it’s only a matter of time before AI takes all of our jobs lol

If you're familiar with the other unofficial DALL•E discord, there are people who request absurd prompts that clearly violate the policy. One got so offended and triggered when users pointed out her prompt request violates OpenAI's policy, she wrote a whole baseless paragraph just to rant.

A small excerpt from her rant:
||"Why is OPEN AI collaborating with and promoting a SEXIST magazine (which I’m sure is a bit more offensive and OPPRESSIVE and shocking than some fake image of some fat Korean girl farting on fake people)? I have NO IDEA. I’m not a hypocrite so I don’t know how hypocrites operate."||

People will push for their freedom of speech even with AI. I'm not saying that OpenAI is suppressing our expressions but in my opinion, the regulation and safeguards with an AI this powerful, in this age of misinformation, is essential.

I think it could take work for things that don’t require an insane amount of specificity in design. Like more general one-off pieces, label and packaging designs etc. but it is definitely a revolutionary tool for artists to assist in the design process and will get even better too

I think so, yes, and I think that it will almost always default to photo-realism if a style isn't suggested, or the word "illustration/painting/render" is missing. But that's just a guess from my own experiments.

heck yeah, i'm working on something like this but a tarot series themed with robots! it is very slow going though. Your with how dalle struggles with counting objects is something i anticipated not looking forward to after i get through the major arcana 😔

dalle2 is more diverse because of the prior but i think dalle 2 also uses GLIDE as the decoder
