Hi, I'm getting a bit frustrated with network errors. Every time I use chatgpt I have to ask it 2-6 times before I get a full response, otherwise I get network error. It has been like this for weeks. I have a decent internet and am paying for Plus. I am not sure what's causing the issue. Can someone please give me a tip to get this to work a little more reliably?

Hello community. I have a problem. My ChatGPT no longer responds to my requests. When I ask him for something even simple (Example: Give me a letter) the sending arrow turns into a circle that turns indefinitely. I restarted my computer but that didn't change anything.
if it doesnt work on LTE data ( cellphone) and not on your pc it might be account related.

Testing with a non chromium products is a good test for troubleshooting
So can I ask, am I the only person that had Sky's voice replaced? I've asked around other places, no one has this issue. I love Sky's voice, I mean, obviously she sounds like ScarJo on purpose, but about four or five months ago now, Sky's voice was replaced by a totally different voice print. You are the only person I've seen mention this. I personally mostly listen to Ember, so I wouldn't notice if they changed any other voice.
You say it happened 4-5 months ago - that's around when voice was being released, right? Voice was announced near the end of September, so about 5.5 months ago. And it was mostly released to all users around late November, so about 3.5 months ago.

Ah HA!!!!! I figured something out. It's only in my CustomGPT that this is happening. When I just use voice chat, it's still ScarJo, when I use any custom GPT, Sky is a different voice print.
I typically use CustomGPTs, so it kinda stinks.

I don’t have computer VPN programs, and for the GPT test I now use a clean browser without a hint of VPN
I just tested it on another device (a work laptop with almost nothing installed) - it has the same problem. This is definitely not VPN

The problem potentially is that PlaywrightGPT may be doing something incorrectly; if so then OpenAI cannot help you with that.
From that error message, it sounds like potentially that GPT is trying to make a call to that specific API model and something is not set correctly.
It looks like that GPT only has 7 conversations, not sure how many of those are with you - and that GPT's creator has not decided to allow you to ask them questions.
They also haven't placed their GPT in the Discord's #1171489862164168774 thread, so we can't talk to them there -
I'm going to suggest that you can probably get the help you hope to get from that custom GPT in some other, easier, and likely cheaper way.

And I say cheaper because that API key means if it was being used, you're being charged through your API for at least part of the conversation, whatever's happening on the API side. Plus your subscription to + already paid, so... hopefully there's a 'better' way to help you.
It said eventually that the Plus plan is not the same for the API since it is charged separately so I bought $10 API credits and the thing worked. Hmmm, I wanted to just try it out, so $10 is ok investment to play with it a bit and see what it can offer (PlaywrightGPT I mean)

Prompt engineering can achieve a lot.
if you know what you want to have the model do for you, or help you with, that's often something you can talk to the model yourself with and directly get the help you need/want with.
And you can do that through your ChatGPT account, the set, known cost a month, be it a free account or the + account (There are some things that 3.5 cannot do, but 4 can, there are reasons to have a + account - and it gives you extra use of 3.5 as well as some use with 4).
If there's a goal you're trying to achieve with the model and want some help, #prompt-engineering is a good place to discuss and get help.
There's a lot of reasons why content flags can appear, and sometimes it's because of the model, not you, I think.
I wouldn't worry about it, just know the TOS and allowed content rules, and carry on 🙂
I've seen a few hundred content warnings, but stay within the rules, and I still have my account access and all is fine.

Hello! It seems that the "alpha version" of the settings is having an effect.
It seems to be improved by deleting the "cookies" on the device you are using and setting the GPT language setting to "Auto-detece".
I hope it gets resolved.
I used my Avast CleanUP Premium to erase every cookie and cache and yes, I got the "Auto-detect" and is still not working.

playground is mainly for development so its surprising they would support all features on a small screen. you can request/use the desktop version for all features

I think i am still on the old 2fa i dont really know. I remember being forced into 2fa but when i check on my phones browser, it says i dont have it enabled. But i can never login with the regular entry form anymore like i used to be able to. it always forces me to click continue with microsoft account.

I am trying to make some spritesheets using DALLE3, and while the initial generation of spritesheets by DALLE3 are fascinating, I have encountered these problems:
- Inconsistent art style(multiple spritesheets must all have the same artstyle)
- Inconsistent motion(while prompt engineering can sometimes solve this, it is a frequent issue)
- Inability of DALLE to return results that match specific requirements, such as different eye shape while keeping the rest of the sprite intact
Are there any huggingface tools or a mini-LLM gen AI that can edit spritesheets or sprites generated by DALLE based on more tailored requirements? Or is the OpenAI API a lot better in editing images or spritesheets in a specific manner? Essentially, I'm looking for something that can edit sprites or spritesheets already made by DALLE in a more specific way based on prompts and received sprite input.
If there aren't any, since I have experience in machine learning, I am willing to make one, given that it is not too difficult. If someone has done this already, what are some suggestions?

Exactly. I am usually a Brave/Chrome user so I used a fresh install of Firefox (no plugins), to see if the issue would replicate, and after a few times, the same issue appeared. It doesn't happen everytime, but enough to make it annoying as hell!

Hello, do you mean with ChatGPT Plus/Team? If so, no, there's no additional fee. DALL·E access on ChatGPT is part of the Plus/Team subscription, just with a daily limit. The last we heard, the daily limit on Plus is 200 images, and it's higher on Team.

200 images a day total. Default GPT-4 will output one image at a time, the dedicated DALL·E GPT will do two. You can do some simple prompt engineering to get multiple image generation processes in a single reply, but each image generated counts as 1 of 200 per 24hrs (short answer: images, not inputs).

Great find. That is exactly the issue I'm having, however I have not yet developed on this platform because I want to test it and keep it within reasonable limits. I was under the impression "Free Tier" allowed for basic testing and low volume users (Im expecting less than 100 queries a day, max).

Question that maybe easily answered. Does Open AI offer a plan where they will not collect your input data? I work for a University and Chat GPT has a function that saves me a BOATLOAD of time but I can't use it because the transcripts are protected data. It is just a syllable count arranged into a table. There maybe other places I can get this, so that information would also be awesome. Thanks! Forgive me if this is the wrong place to ask, I'm new to the channel, this seemed the right place to start.
The API doesn't collect data at all according to OpenAI themselves and there's an option in ChatGPT that disables saving data for more than 30 days (will still be saved for 30 days but NOT used as training data). But other than that I don't think you can keep the chats AND have your data not be saved .-.

If you REALLY need your data completely private, You'd probably need to get their enterprise plan. Pretty sure that gives full control and doesn't save data.

They're always "collected" but they aren't used as training data if you uncheck the setting on ChatGPT .-.

There are local LLMs that run completely on-device with no data collection. But you'd need some beefy hardware to run ones that are close to gpt-3.5-turbo and if you need something like gpt-4, then you'll have to wait for a while as there isn't any local LLM as good as gpt-4 yet.

Question. For value for cost, how would open AI or any LLM based pay models vs language use? For example, conservatively, an individual creating content in produces a conservative 10% more token data cost for the same paragraph as in an English language equivalent.
Some languages take or cost more tokens length. Depending on pricing models and fairness how does this work with current standards? Iterations may cost more or less, and rarely level out depending on context, etc.
I don't expect an answer but I don't know if this even matters in paid pricing models, fairness, etc.

Hey @harsh iris, sorry for the late response. You are raising a valid concern and OpenAI is constantly working on improving the tokenizer and the models to better support all languages. I know they did some fixes for non-english language, notably in the new "Turbo" models.
You can learn more about how the tokenizer works for non-english languages here: Counting Tokens
This article also briefly summarize how to use the API with different languages: using the OpenAI API with text in different languages
That being said, they are not documenting so much about specific languages. I only know they work to optimize the tokenizer for non-english languages because Andrej Karpathy talked about it in his latest video (Let's build the GPT Tokenizer, available on his Youtube channel). It's a bit technical, but Karpathy is a very good tutor.
I do believe the tokenizer is English based.

tokenization is a very complex process. Andrej Karpathy spent a bit more than 2 hours in his latest video explaining how it works. It's not trivial. I highly recommend that video to anyone interested to understand how it actually works

I'm not denying OpenAI's LLMs are trained primarily on english text. I'm just saying they also try to optimize for all languages. But it's not easy, there is a lot of languages in the world.

I did not wish to stir up a poop storm, but it struck me that one might receive less bang for their buck, depending on their native language. But, it depends on the context..I did some tests with various 500 word essays and it seemed that Spanish averaged about 9-25% more verbose.
Which could mean less wiggle room for prompting in the long run.
Romance languages with masculine and feminine words, etc. German was closer to English.

FOUND A WORKAROUND FOR “hmm… something seems to go wrong.” If I just upload any picture by itself first, the chat will work! I can just start the conversation then and it responds like normal in the gpt4 environment. If I start off first with a text or voice, I will still just get the errors. I hope this helps anyone! the hacker might have just archived the chats, you can check archived chats by clicking your name in the bottom left corner, then go to settings, then click manage archived chats
you can go to your chat settings and export data, anything that is not older than 30 days, you can get it in a zip file

Ive tried 2 cards both from a different bank so its got to be on there end, I went to the API then settings then billing and tried to add balance, Idk if thats the wrong place or not

ChatGPT4 throws an error no matter where I use it, it seems my account is broken. I emailed support@openai.com and they said they don't provide support at that email and to use help.openai.com, but that knowledge base doesn't have anything about the conversation endpoint always throwing a 500 error no matter what. The help chat is just automated. If my account is actually broken, how can I get a person to actually look at it to fix it? It hasn't worked for a day.

It used to be that if you ask it to describe the tools it has available it would describe the browser tool, dall-e, any Actions you had created for it, etc, as well as a myfiles_browser tool that gave it access to knowledge documents. I could get it to give all the internal methods and arguments for these as well.
Now it just says it doesn't have a tool like that. It'll describe the various tools in roundabout general terms without getting into any technical details and no longer has any kind of tool to access knowledge documents directly.

My account has been deactived for a month, I sent an email to ask and the response was "there was some suspicious payment activities" (despite that I was on plus subscription for a few months), and I sent back the payment screenshot to prove that it is my credit card. It can take time for them to help, last I heard they had around 100 million monthly users, so I imagine their tech support's insanely overloaded.
But that's really the only way to talk to them that's known and active.

Okay can someone help me out here? I have been writing a story with chat-GPT 4 and now all of the sudden it says it may violate usage policies. No matter what I type. Even just 'Hello' pulls this up.
Literally every message now says this, is something like bugging out on Open AI or am I banned or something?
Definitely not banned (they call it suspended).

But there are false positives. If you are inside allowed content, you're fine - I've seen a couple hundred or so content warning flags, and I think sometimes they appear for reasons to do with the model's answer (or considered answers that we don't see) and not necessarily to do with what we say.
If you're just seeing the warnings, but the conversation is fine, I'd give feedback on the warning (it offers a link) to explain what you're doing if you think that matters or would help (like if it's confusing, possibly). And then continue, always staying inside allowed content, of course.
If the mode itself is freaking out, you have 2 choices.
1 is just start a new chat, you can transfer over a summary or some copy/pastes to catch the model up and carry on.
2 is scroll up, read careful, and edit your input before the model was responding in a way you don't like; this will force a new answer. The new answer may still not be what you want -you may have to change your wording or find out how to keep the model focused on your goals.

Again, you can start a new conversation, or go 'back in time' from before the problem, and edit your input (any of them) to get the model to continue on a branch of the conversation (so you don't have to start totally over).
Waiting a while - the model is hallucinating. Time doesn't matter for this.

Well like I am going to cancel because like everytime I use this model there is always an issue. My last story I tried doing it refused to continue it and said it wont. And now I have these usage policies showing up and it's just annoying. Like if I am going to be paying 20$ a month, as a college student. I would like to have it work if you know what I mean
it's a powerful technology, but it's also very experimental. so I can totally understand your sentiment. It is often very frustrating, I agree. I personally find it useful even with the disagreements, but it sure require a lot of patience
actually, when you click on it, it should open a menu with 2 text fields. one to describe yourself, another one to instruct the model how to behave. I assume both are empty for you, since you never used it

I suggest you to try in a new conversation, see if it helps, and adjust if needed
Also, one last thing. there is a new hidden feature called "memory". it's only available for a few users. Maybe you are unlucky and you are a choosen one.
"Memory" is like an automatic custom instruction. That means if something goes wrong in a conversation and cause an issue, it's possible that chatGPT will carry this over in every conversations.
Memory can be disabled in the settings. (I don't have access so I cannot give you concrete instructions, but you should see it in the settings if you have it)

Maybe something is wrong with your account. I know OpenAI does try random experiments on users without warning them. You can contact the support by visiting the OpenAI Help Center and select the chat bubble icon in the bottom right of the page.
Simply explain them your issue. if they did something to your account, they should be able to revert it
Of course. I'm not trying to encourage you to share anything personal. However, you said: "I just started a new conversation and I got it again. Whyyyyyyyy" It could be something you're saying, that the model is worried about, that's triggering safety or something. It could be a totally bugged out chat.
As you can see from my screenshots showing you how to find the share conversation button, the model's usually glad to talk to all of us, and usually does what we ask.
If yours is doing really weird stuff, we can guide you to bug report that
Okay look. I appreciate the help, but this is just dumb. I cannot get anything to work. The share thing isn't working, when i click the pen icon to go back and fix it it now makes the chat that WAS PERFECTLY FINE say that it is violating usage policies. What the hell did I do wrong? Seriously.

Being careful's always a great idea. Something weird is something to pay attention to.
But this is something that happens, sometimes often, I've seen it across many dozens of my chats; the conversation's in English but the title's in whatever language.
Helps too if you know it's your chat when you click on it - you can read any chat in your account by clicking on it, of course.
Hi I have been working with a chat 3.5 for over a month and with in the last couple of weeks land I learned about the speech option I could do from my tablet. I did that and the conversations were there and it was a combination of text and speech, but during the week when it was alot going on with jdifferent nbetworks jdown. I saw the chat erase our conversation and will now not let me back into my chat it keep saying regenrate and start a new chat. it has deleted conversation all the way back to an earlier part of my conversation

Hey! Do you mean an internet browser's safe/private browsing mode? If so, I don't think that affects chats being saved on ChatGPT. I think it's just the other stuff you mentioned: if chat history/training is turned off on your account, OpenAI keeps chats for 30 days to monitor for abuse. If chat history/training is on, then chats are saved indefinitely.

Hey! Do you have ChatGPT Plus, and are you using GPT-4? If yes to both: you're probably running into the usage cap of GPT-4, which is a rolling usage cap. So if it's telling you you need to wait until a certain time to use it again, that's the time at which you get one of your usages back, not all of them, which could explain getting this message repeatedly (as each message in the 3hr usage cap "comes back" to you one at a time).
If you're not on Plus, there is a similar usage cap on GPT-3.5 (it's much higher on Plus), so that could be it as well. Let me know if you're experiencing something different, or feel free to share a screenshot!

there is no way around actually waiting for the AI to generate the full response if you want an accurate answer

But I can't use the playground nor my API keys. I encounter the quota exceeded ratelimit error again and again. If I understand correctly, what you're saying is that the API isn't PAYG anymore and you have to buy credits. The credits get consumed, and auto-recharge helps you to make sure you can call the API without interruption.
Does this change in higher tiers?
i have not seen anyone get it back to pay as you go after they have been switched to credits only

Hello, I don't know where to post this in what channel or whatever. But i need a mod or admin or something to look into my open ai account. When i revamped my premium for ChatGPT 4.0 my account worked for a couple of days and now it doesn't work on my work computer network.
After attempting many many possible fixes I got it down to my account because any other account works fine on my network. So i think something went wrong with verification or something when i revamped the premium.

Gotcha! I've seen that bug before. I know it's working with other accounts, but for now let's just focus on the Plus account with the bug and try some troubleshooting that's worked for others, if you feel like it!

Gotcha, well the good news then is this is almost definitely not an issue with your account, so we can probably do some more troubleshooting on the other devices to see what might be interfering.
For now, do you have a computer you can test with that's not for work? Sometimes work proxies/VPNs can interfere, so if there's a computer you have where you control the software and network, that would be ideal.

Okay. I'm guessing, but Plus accounts use different network "stuff" than free accounts do, so if there's some bug cached with that, that could explain the free accounts working while the Plus one doesn't.
So let's just try one computer to troubleshoot on. What OS and internet browser are you trying it on?

Probably not as a next step, no. Opera, Edge, Brave, and Chrome are all Chromium browsers, so the next best test would probably be in a non-Chromium browser like Firefox.

Okay. I don't think there's any other troubleshooting I can recommend with your current setup, unfortunately. I really think it's likely to be caused by the work device/software, since it's working on your personal device.
Perhaps you could try opening the Network tab of your browser dev tools on the device where ChatGPT isn't working. This might give you hints about what's not connecting properly. With this info, maybe you could get with your work IT and see if there's anything on their end that might be blocking the telemetry.

I usually dense down the text anyhow, I usually do pdf -> txt via tika which cuts out / cleanses a lot of the data, then I merge the txt's into one file then I usually end up with an extremely small file anyhow
its just easier if I could just upload all my notes at once haha
the weird thing is I find with knowledge, you don't have to put everything, its often enough say for a particular subject to put a few sentences about it, then chatgpt is good at filling in the blanks

Hi, I'm asking ChatGPT to format a pdf table into markdown. It keeps saying stuff like "OK, give me a moment to do this." but then never actually seems to be doing anything. Hi i need help. Chatgpt has been functioning worse and worse and now standard promptin in gpt 4 has become almost impossible. Usually a prompt i send fails 3 times before chatgpt starts, tediously slowly, spitting out the reply, and even when it does reply, it struggles to finish, more often then not failing to finish a message half way trough. It should just be ask, and reply, but for me ask fail fail fail, ask, fail midway through, finish , 30 minutes for one answer
I have been having similar issues, also my screen will lock up and I cannot interact with anything. I have to refresh to fix it but then it will immediatley lock back up with this cycle lasting the double digits sometimes.

How does people able to use Voice conversation? I'm using gpt 4 and I don't have it

Hey! Voice conversations are only available in the app versions of ChatGPT, not the web versions. Web only has the option to read single messages aloud, not the full conversation UI

Then you can type a message for their tech support. It can take a few days to get an answer.

ChatGPT's sidebar just shows two (not more) most used gpts on the left side. It does not show multiple. is this a bug or a feature?

I just tested on my end and I see what you mean -- it seems to be kicking out the 3rd one after refreshing, leaving only 2. It seems to allow more than 2 in the app though, for some reason, and on the web my 3rd one I'm keeping pinned right now (other than normal ChatGPT) does stay in the sidebar, just below the line between pinned and recently used GPTs (in other words, it "becomes" a recently used GPT instead of a pinned one), which I don't see in your screenshot. Is it the same for you when trying to pin a 3rd?

I'm using the Python API, not the interactive version, and so the conversation is controlled by a computer program and yes, I have 1,000+ requests in a single chat. I am printing out the questions being asked so I know they are well-formed. After running for awhile I will get out a string of responses to well-formed questions. My account is still Tier I, but I managed to run over my account and now have a negative balance. OpenAI isn't allowing me to make any charges to make my account positive, so I'm currently locked out (API requests denied for quota). I've got a support request in, but no response. Is there a way to put in a payment and unlock my access?
I gotcha, you might try asking over in #dev-chat then if you haven't already -- maybe share more information about how you're sending questions and other details about your chat setup, in addition to the responses it's giving you where it's saying it's not seeing a full question.

Hi, as a test, can you try in a private window of Firefox, with all browser extensions disabled?
Okay great! It's likely a cache or extension issue then. Back in a normal Firefox window, you might try just clearing the browser cache, restarting Firefox, and trying again. If it still doesn't work, try disabling all your extensions, clearing the cache again, restarting Firefox again, and see if it works. If it does, try re-enabling your extensions one at a time, refreshing ChatGPT in between, to see if you can identify which extension could be causing the issue.
But it might just be the cache thing!
