just reword your prompt slightly, the response was going to take up too much space rather than have it truncated. things like this especially happen in long long conversations and if you give an LLM a direction to answer with X length answers.

I'm not sure if your GPT4 chat frontend has some mechanism for internet connectivity, but that's probably your best route for getting the answer with GPT, other than trying ChatGPT Plus' plugins.

I used variations on the below query yesterday for various directories on a web site that is using browing instead of index.html files pointing to the individual files. It worked fine yeterday for 3 directories. Today, I generates 'place holder' filenames (file01.html, file02.html etc) instead of the actual filenames found in that dir. I have tries this on bing, chatgpt, playground, Claude etc. My guesses as to why this fails today is 1.) I messed up my query today, 2.) The gpt engines don't have records of the current files, the ai engine isn't conneccted to the internet and can't see the filenames. Does anyone have any idea?

there are many huggingface models that can be used in many API's. GPT4all is by far the easiest to setup and use fort he 95% of the world that isnt tech savy or a coder

IF you want to train, yes, but pretrained models do not need that time. just get GPT4all and do the homework if you simply want a AI that is not online to work with.

know though, that those models will nto have the live training or hardware of the online models, so you will not get computation on par wit h the online models

they work, but only get better if used and models are moved through quick;y

pretrained means they took datasets, packed it for learning, trained the models, some including manual training which is many man hours, then they package that trained model up once its behavior is acceptable and make that available for you to load into your own system

advantages are time and money save. disadvantages is that you didnt get to train it with datasets you want or with any custom features such as censoring etc

most mainstream models are censored to help keep people from being destrutive.

Like - I love political debates/conversations. As it stands now, it's not easy to have that with ChatGPT and the way it censors everything.

But if I were to (down the line when I'm more technologically inclined) create my own datasets, it would allow me to tailor the AI so that we could have those types of conversations without the heavy censorship.

untrained models are like a void mind, until given data they are nothing with great potential. lol

training is costly. ideally, jsut find a model with the features you want trained on the datasets you want, then fine tune it by additional training on the needed data.

on the other hand, tech is fast, and like myself, many are working on not needing those intermediary steps and processes

so it may be better to learn and get on par with current happenings as our understanding of these systems is evolving day by day faster and faster now

Is there some sort of setup that allows me to utilize multiple gpus hooked up to a single pc sorta like how mining crypto works with a gpu farm. if not, is this sort of setup likely to work in some scenariors?

if your AI software supports parallelizing the workload then you can utilize multiple GPUs, but writing software that does parallel processing is something that has to be done from the outset or is a painful retrofit. PyTorch supports multiple GPU parallelism but I haven't done it myself. This opens up other interesting approaches like parallelizing across physical machines (DDP) and elastic scaling. OpenAI's hosted approach is likely doing distributed parallelism at massive scale but we can't see inside the box (tried to include urls but got a timeout so google the above terms and should find resources)

It doesn't "remember" that it wrote something. It could be what we call a hallucination. It would often use the info from your prompt as true unconditionally. So if you ask it something like "what did you say previously" or something, it would assume that it did say something even if doesn't remember it.

I have a question that is probably really basic if someone can help me out. I want to build mini web apps that use LLMs to do different, specific tasks. For now I work in Colab free. What I dont understand: What is the difference between 1. importing a pretrained model and giving it a prompt for inference & 2. sending an API request with a prompt and retrieving the inference (Either a hosted inference API from huggingface, or using ChatGPT, etc) One main difference here is relying on someone else´s compute rather than my own - I get that. So importing a pretrained model and using that in an instance would require large hardware reqs etc.

well facebook tried making galactica and it was a catastrophic mess. you could look that up to see what went wrong maybe matar. different llm, but you might see some pitfalls

Besides the hardware you could potentially have an uncensored and more raw language model. You could change the pretrained model to something else. You would ultimately have more control in general but I imagine the best in class is going to be behind an API or bot until the difference is really splitting hairs but that is a long time from now. A trade off between control but lagging a bit behind the leader.

Last month my email got compromised, so I moved all of my accounts to a new email. Since you can't change emails on your OpenAI account, I had to delete the account fully. When I try to make a new account with the new email, I can't get passed the SMS verification as it says the phone number has already been used - despite my original account being deleted. I've read online that one phone number can be linked to two accounts, but I've 100% only ever made one account - I've checked my other emails to see if there are any OpenAI emails and there are none.

I emailed support through the little chat bubble 3 weeks ago, but didn't receive a response. I emailed them again last week and still nothing. ETA on the site says one week which isn't really happening it seems. ChatGPT has been essential to my workflow and this has really messed things up for me. Any ideas on how to fix?

I could try that. The issue is SMS based, but it's silly since the original account is supposedly deleted. With Google, you can make an account with an age under 13 and it won't ask you for a phone number. That doesn't work with OpenAI, but I'm sure there are other workarounds.

Guess we will have to wait until they realize how awful policy is to completely disable a phone number when an account is deleted.

Like, what are you supposed to do next? Change the phone number you have all your life just to login to ChatGPT?

Either no one is using your account or they somehow know the new password(maybe your email is compromised?). Try changing password of your email account and the changing the chat gpt password as well.
There's also an option that it's someone that have access to your PC locally(or potentially remotely), so might want to double check there as well.

I live in Australia, but I'm moving to India next month. Is it possible to continue my access to GPT-4 subscription and API access while in India? or is it limited to smaller populations due to lack of compute?

India is a supported country (https://platform.openai.com/docs/supported-countries) so there shouldn't be any issue if you choose to continue using OpenAI products and services there - you should be able to handle all payments fine if you change the payment method to a bank card from the country as well

Sorry if i have the wrong channel, looks like the most appropriate.. I am leaving my company and will no longer have access to my email address, this is the address I used to set up my OpenAI account.. I can see there is no way to alter your email address, and the FAQ is advising to invite another me ( different email address ) however, it then requires a mobile/cell number, which when i use my current number, is already used, so it will not allow me to invite a new me!! ( i looked at deleting the user, and start again, but the warning on delete says clearly i cant use the service again if i delete, and the mobile is remembered! so not an option) can anyone advise a way forward!!
