The OpenAI Governance letter makes sense but the only way to limit the potential is to somehow continue holding to the old ways of teaching. I honestly think a new way of people's development can significantly mould people's brains and AI build up to assimilate all aspects of AI potential far beyond how it is now.

I think a lot of people are 'lazy' to change. A lot of people are going to be forced to change due to the loss of jobs for many reasons. The people who still have lots of money from stocks, btc, real-estate, lottery will still do their thing but those that have to figure out what to do could create great things, far greater than what we've already seen because they have to or else they die will help disrupt the entire economy.

I don't think it's possible to truly Govern. We are looking at the bright side of nothing really inhibiting that forecasted roadmap. There are still plenty of things that could go wrong in a recent future where most people would see the afterlife than the future on Earth.

We may not be at the absolute end times but certainly there are people who are, not just AI related but according to how the 'balance' is going in the world.

I'm still more concerned about people with lots of money and power rerouting critical assets to live into their own Utopias while everyone else is left out. If we die out for whatever reason, it is what it is. There is no way to protect against not dying, old age is the most common example.

People think stuff can be controlled but we are in a world where as long as people have instructions and assets with requirements fulfilled, all it takes is the course of action being completely executed after the decision has been made.

What the plugin needs for its operation is paid by the plugin's owner (developer). The plugin is not required to make OpenAI API calls in itself if it can do its job based on the information it exchanges with ChatGPT through the API described in its openapi.yaml. For example in the case of AskYourPDF the plugin's server downloads the PDF and stores the pages, then uses some search algorithm to return pages to ChatGPT when requested.

It only "costs" the ChatGPT usage for the end user, which has a quota of 25 messages / 3 hours in case of GPT-4 with ChatGPT Plus.

If you have real urgent work to be done, I would suggest using OpenAI playground in the meantime; it has the same models that run ChatGPT including gpt-3.5-turbo; also Bard from Google is a good fallback, better than BingAI.

It has done so, I think I was able to fix it by removing previous conversations, then typing in a random how to email create a message to it and it did it, then I trained it back to generate 5 emails for the subject matter I needed it and it worked, only thing was some subject lines were left out so I had to ask it to generate the subject lines separate. Thanks anyway.

I have a database of articles and their authors. I want to recommend authors that wrote about similar topics as a user-provided input text. The way I'm doing it is taking the embeddings of 20 articles of an author and calculating the mean of those 20 vectors and store those aggregated embeddings in the database along with each author. Then when the user submits an input text I create an embedding for it and look for the most related mean author embeddings. This works okay-isch but it feels like it could be better. Any recommendations? Is this a good way of doing it?

Sorry I went to bed already yesterday. I am currently not normalizing my vectors. I am using the cosine similarity for similarity calculations which is done by the pinecone vector database, I assume it is not using dot product for that but the actual cosine similarity function. I did some searching and it looks like in that case normalization is not needed since cosine similarity doesnt use the magnitudes. I prefer not to normalize since if I ever need the embeddings for something else then I do not have the original magnitude of the embedding vectors anymore.

One thing I am a bit worried about with my method of using the mean of the articles of an author is that by taking the mean I kinda flatten the expertise of the authors to simple high level categories. So if one author writes about tech and biology then the mean will strongly capture that and will capture less strongly that the author wrore some articles about a specific subfield within tech. However another author that writes exclusively about tech (not also about biology) will likely be ranked higher for any given input text about tech. Even if the other author has written some articles that align more with the specific subfield within tech of the input text.

Surely clearing cache and cookies on mobile wouldn't affect it?

for the record, my auto moderated message was along the lines:
afaik popular services when something goes wrong, the devs will know asap because a service failing is often a massive deal for any company.
as the devs try to quickly patch the issue, they would probably slowly apply the fix amongst few clients, to avoid extreme stress of many users instantly using the service again
