Hey all, I would like to use OpenAI's API to create a version of the GPT-3 model that is aware of my private data and it should be able to answer questions based on this data. From what I've seen so far, this isn't all that easy to do. Fine-tuning a model would allow me to pass prompt-response pairs, which is not what I'm after. On the other hand, I could use OpenAI's embeddings for my own documents, then when a question comes in I could find the most relevant documents and pass then as prompt context to the standard GPT-3 chatbot. Is there a better/different way to solve this?

Yes, I've done some NLP in the past. While embeddings do seem to offer a solution here, I still don't think it's a good one. First, there is a limit to how much context I can pass into my prompt and even measuring question-document similarity using cosines is a dubious undertaking, the mechanisms built into transformers such as attention are far better suited to detect what's relevant

Embeddings utilize semantic search which means that you shouldn't have issues with context limits especially with the newer larger models. The question-document similarity is a relatively easy task to accomplish.

So for whatever reason, I cannot get ChatGPT to analyze websites. I have seen several people do this without having any issues. I was with my friend yesterday, and he has a free account (i have plus) and he can simply copy a link and ask chat to analyze and it will, thoroughly.

I am sort of new to this so I'd appreciate it if someone else corrects me if I am incorrect. This is my take: I think it depends on whether or not the page was read by ChatGPT (assuming before the cut-off date), currently it's not searching the internet in real-time. What you want until this feature is implemented is access to Bing's chat functionality. I downloaded dev version of edge and got access to Bing's version of ChatGPT and it summarizes any page I land on.

Great thought, however, I dont think its true because one of the most recent times I was able to get this feature to work, it was an up to date news article that came out that same day. It was able to read, analyze it and even answer questions about it.

To the best of my understanding this isn't a currently, widely available feature of ChatGPT. Some news came out yesterday of web search functionality, but this is only being given out to people testing it, and if you had this functionality you would be using it and you would be aware of it and you wouldn't be asking the question you initially asked. The only time I have been able to get ChatGPT to analyze a webpage it didn't already index was by submitting the text from that webpage into ChatGPT. I think in the instances where ChatGPT is summarizing a news article are when it already has enough information and content to make a good guess and invent a summary. The way to test this is to give it a link to a news article it could not possibly know. However, I could be wrong. And things are changing all the time. So, if you say it analyzed a current news article, who am I to say otherwise? I am just giving you the best information I have.
