malicious people can hide prompts into links to hijack agentic AI and perform tasks like summarize email and send to the attacker

#

do you think if chatgpt Agent is still vulnerable to this

My first test of Atlas

heady ember

lol idk maybe the found a way to fix since i haven’t seen any reviews yet

For something made for search, I really didn't expect it to say it can't search.

opal wind
#

Well, I think that's all the testing I need to do.

#

I'd really love if I could use my 1Password here.

#

Lol. And it gets worse.

#

No luck...

#

I thought the whole point was to not have to copy-paste stuff???

#

Or is my install just buggy?

#

I guess I'll check back in a month or so. Maybe it'll be resolved by then.

#

Really??? You can't find it? It is literally listed as one of the sources you referenced.

#

Wait, we have to explicitly enable it each chat???
How?
Maybe I'm dumb.

Can someone please explain how to enable it?

#

But the interesting part is that when I asked it that, it did that loading thing saying "Searching the web"

#

I think having some instructions on how to use the browser would be helpful, becuase it doesn't seem intuitive. Like, I don't see a button to enable web search.

You could try adding a failsafe in your customizations for when stuff like this happens. I have, "Whenever you've forgotten functionality you do have, I can say 'Albuquerque' and you will remember" or something like that

Even if it worked though, I think I'd still stick to Arc.

It’s inefficient when you can just have the chatgpt tab open and on hand

Yes, and great for productivity.

Again I think this would’ve been far better as a official tool for chrome with integration

# opal wind Yes, and great for productivity.

Arc helps more with productivity than this Atlas AI stuff in my opinion (which tbh I haven't even gotten to work correctly yet, but even if I did its not really that big of a game changer).

misty bane
#

Wow this looks pathetic

scenic hemlock
#

It works good, however the agent mode's tokens for pro users kills it for me.

#

Commet offers a better value.

misty bane

Sample task: Find the best deal on aluminum foil shipped to my house under $100. Minimize price per square foot but it should still be strong.

opal wind
scenic hemlock
#

Yeah at launch. Works very good, however 400-500 prompts for pro users kills it because you can go through them pretty fast.

opal wind
#

Oh, are you pro?

scenic hemlock
#

Yeah.

opal wind
#

Maybe search just doesn't work for free users like me then.

scenic hemlock
#

Did you set it as your default browser? You get free agent searches.

weak sage

and for example can it search most pages on a website just like the search function chatgpt?

If search doesn't work I doubt agent will lol though.

I am unsure honestly, I would just use them then switch back.

misty bane

I wouldn't let these bots buy aluminum foil

scenic hemlock

I will try your prompt again @misty bane

misty bane
#

I am running it with chatgpt agent mode now and its really putting in the leg work

scenic hemlock

Kinda funny, OAI is looking at ebay for the foil lmao

It found some on amazon, 75 SQ feet, $8.57.

#

Anyone here a pro user by chance?

misty bane
opal wind
scenic hemlock

Thats me.

opal wind
scenic hemlock

#

Honestly, I would stick with this over commet but the agent tokens just kills it for me. I know, I have said that like 50x today but I am just frusterated they couldn't do something extra for the pro users.

opal wind
#

On Comet everything just works. And I'm on free there too.

#

So, by far a win for Comet.

scenic hemlock
#

Right now anyways. Hopefully some OAI staff are in here lurking and will start a fire or something to get it for pro users.

I went to a page, and asked for a summary. It gave me a summary and told me that was a summary of the page. I started reading through it myself and noticed some details didn't line up. I then asked it a more specific question and it said it doesn't have access to the page.
I then asked it how it gave me a summary. It said it just produced a summary based on the name of the page.

1st image from brave's previous blog post about Perplexity Comet.
if you use agent mode where the language model can perform actions, this is just an inherent risk. only use agent mode on sources you trust.
agent mode in various browsers can be exploited through:

  • images with text in them
  • websites with text (possibly hidden!) in them (like reddit posts, articles, etc)
  • documents e.g. google docs

this then means the attacker can now do everything agent mode can. can it access your files? probably not, because the agent probably can't either. it probably could log into a bank account though.

second image shows something similar happening with Atlas ... it incidentally happened outside of agent mode meaning there's less of a threat, but still, doesnt make it impossible.

Absolutely. I mean, they're not even releasing Sora 2 properly, only with lowres quality and watermarks all over the videos. If they spread out their resources too thin, they'll be crushed by Google's sheer amount of compute power. Google are leading all benchmarks right now over OpenAI. Gemini 2.5 Pro is still #1 for text on LM Arena, with Gemini 3.0 just around the corner, Veo 3.1 reclaimed the #1 spot from Sora 2, Nano Banana is competing with Hunyuan 3 and Seedream 4 for the top spot, etc. etc.; the only top spot for GPT-5 is Coding, but only for the insanely expensive GPT-5 High, and that's painfully slow to use.
They can't compete with everyone at everything. Best focus on creating the best, most natural feeling foundation model, instead of wasting tons of resources on gimmicks.

i think they've just done it for simplicity - they probably have a few features floating around that require Foundation Models API (there's already one that summarises search history) which doesn't exist for non-apple silicon macs

that said once they do bring this to windows i don't see why intel macOS is out of the question - unless there's a stupid SwiftUI quirk as well

and lets be real here - this is a beta even if they don't want to call it that. no point pouring resources into other platforms when they havent finished developing for the simplest one

I had been working on a very repetitive task, creating alerts across multiple Grafana dashboards when i saw the News regarding Atlas and decided to give a try to help automate things.

During my first attempt, this worked perfectly Atlas followed all the steps I demonstrated. Unfortunately, I realized afterward that I had forgotten one crucial step, clicking the Save button once the changes were made.

When I repeated the process to include the Save step, Atlas only executed that one action (clicking Save) and skipped all the previous steps from the original sequence.

When using the agent, I tried to have it perform a sequence of actions across several open tabs, but it responded that it couldn’t detect any open tabs. It wanted to work on dashboards that i had previously worked on from looking at the history. To work around this, I manually provided the URLs for each dashboard I wanted it to act on.

Sometimes it would display a "website blocked by client" message, even when it had just successfully accessed the exact same page moments earlier.

Any tips or recommendations to improve this workflow would be greatly appreciated!

# spark tartan Has anyone found a use for atlas yet

What excited me more than Agent Mode in Atlas are these 3 features:

8:10-8:48
Um, and we've made some major upgrades to search on ChatGPT when accessed via Atlas. So, we know that, um, search is kind of one of the core flows in a browser for navigating the internet. __And a lot of these searches can be very keyword-based or short.__Um, and LLMs traditionally struggle with that where they don't have enough context to provide a great answer. So, one of the first things you'll notice is anytime you search within Atlas, you get these tabs across the top. You can quickly pivot your experience into something more like a traditional search engine with images, videos, or news stories — all without losing that core chat experience on the home tab.

9:00-9:20:
“One really interesting thing here is that whenever you click a link from a search result in Atlas, by default, it's going to slide Chat over and open the web in a split view. Now, if you don't want that, you can always Command-click the link or just click the Ask ChatGPT button and close it. But it has this kind of nice property of — you have a companion with you as you search the internet.”

10:08-11:15:
So, we know a really popular flow in ChatGPT is to draft some writing in a note or a doc or an email. Copy that writing, bring it to ChatGPT, workshop it a bit there — maybe change the tone or tenor, language, spell check, grammar, whatever it may be. Get to something you're happy with, copy the output of that, bring it back to wherever you're working, paste it there. With Atlas, we wanted to try to flatten that flow into something that feels like you can just do it in-line on any form field or text box on the internet.

untold socket
# frosty dew Is Comet's Agent mode faster?

it really depends. Comet uses it's own model (sonar IIRC) and that is sometimes faster to select the tools needed. Atlas uses gpt-5-instant (as far as I can tell) and this is faster to analyze the page, but takes it's time to select the tool. It just depends 😉 chrome-devtools mcp with a fast model (like grok-4-fast) is probably the fastest right now for agent mode.

Feature Request:

A bookmarks feature with pre-built folders for PlayList (YouTube videos, music etc), Reading List (for articles) and WatchList (for movies/tv shows) would be nice.

And ChatGPT should be able to automatically open the corresponding bookmarks folder depending on the webpage/content in focus when I click the save/favourite button in address bar.

A simple quality of life upgrade like this could go a long way.

That reading list can be used to recommend me articles - just like how Google uses favourite pages to recommend me articles in Discover feed.

Maybe use a Save icon instead of Star in the address bar for this bookmarks/save feature.

#

One more:

Just copy the core features of Windows Snipping Tool. Annotating something and attaching it to ChatGPT is part of my daily workflow.

Copying some features of the recently launched Google App for Windows would be amazing.

A built-in clipboard for frequently used prompts, images and sources/links would be a nice addition. If you could connect that with Snipping Tool in an intuitive way -> it would be phenomenal.

Think Nothing’s Essential Space.

also a comet user (free tier for both) but honestly not impressed by anything
agent mode on both browsers still feels like watching a toddler stumble around trying to find a button - could easily do something myself 50x faster
comet has / commands which are pretty nice if there are certain prompts you use over and over again.... atlas released with nothing but chatgpt bolted onto the sidebar (with nice animations though) and a spinning logo that turns rainbow

i think for free tier atlas might win purely because it can use a better model than perplexity has, although im still not sure about that as perplexity often has more relevant search results.

that said im an arc refugee so both of these browsers felt pretty lame to me 😭

You would be amazed at how people think.

I worked in retail and one person came up to me saying their laptop is not turning on. I fixed it by turning up the brightness.

Another customer came to me saying their laptop’s camera is not working. I just turned on their physical web cam slider to fix the issue.

After buying a window 11 laptop - a customer came to tell me the copy/cut button is missing. I just pointed them to the top of the right-click context menu. The user was looking at the middle of the context menu due to 20+ years of mental model.

So yes, pre-built folders would be like a magical thing for a lot of people and easy to teach. (Even FAQs could easily point to it for new users)

Oh ok, I was gonna say that one of reason Apple gets a lot of apps earlier is that Apple users typically pay more for apps, in-app purchases, and subscriptions than Windows and android users so they don’t get prioritized. if you’re paying user like you’re not part of the problem at least

#

Like OpenAI probably looked at their metrics on what percentage of platform users actually subscribe and there’s probably a very, very clear signal that tells them to prioritize Apple products

hallow topaz
#

so is there like any unofficial way to get it on windows

Hackintosh?

#

Spend $600 on a Mac mini

hallow topaz
#

yeah imma just wait forever for it

#

why mac first of all things anyway

azure peak
#

Read my message like 2 above

#

Their developers probably also use MacBooks too. It’s a pretty popular platform for developers, but I really think it comes down to making money windows and android users. Don’t pay for products as much as Apple users.

hallow topaz
#

you think itll come out on iphone the same time it comes out on other things

azure peak
#

No, probably earlier than android and windows

#

You know what I take that back because Apple doesn’t allow chromium based browsers to run on iOS so they have to basically put a skin on Safari and call it something new like every third-party browser you use on iOS is actually a re-skinned Safari so the architectural differences between their Mac browser and the iOS one is like night and day

hallow topaz
#

lowkey wish they gave at least some information on other release dates

azure peak
#

Looking inside the app, most of their stuff is very apple specific, not cross platform. Idk how long it took for Windows to get a native app vs Mac, but I’d take that time difference and multiply it times 0.3 to 0.5 for a good estimate, they are kind of switching to like being a product company more so now than when the native app came out so I think it will take them less than half the time, but I still think there’ll be a lag

very big difference here - with the ChatGPT desktop apps, windows is basically an electron clone of the web app, while macOS desktop app was written in swiftui and has all the fancy control features. even then, the Windows app released 158 days after the macOS app.

Atlas is also written in SwiftUI - which has only one half-baked way to port to Windows, with The Browser Company's dev kit they made for Arc - that took them 3+ years of development and BCNY's Arc on Windows is still half-baked and incredibly buggy (and abandoned). I'd bet OpenAI will use something else, but there's just no good way to do it - i doubt their windows-native UI team is very good yet because this will be their first product to have a native UI on windows.

idk i just dont see an easy way for them to do this and make it good

#

definitely think they've overpromised on any windows timeline whatsoever and will probably end up under-delivering

azure peak

If Atlas ends up allowing significantly more Agent mode interactions than the ChatGPT app, i think we can rest assured that they are getting significant training data on how to use browsers/UI for their CUA model.

For the past 4 months i've been saying the models aren't the limiting factor, its their "harness" that is. Like LLMs could be much better at real tasks if the non-AI connector bits were much more built-out. It's actually quite shameful to realize Apple basically has this baked into macOS and iOS via App Intents, yet they still dropped the ball

you know how to become server staff here /

azure peak
# stiff grail hey

no, the "staff" are just community members not affiliated with OAI. I dont know if they even have any special permissions.

I've never even seen a moderator in a chat, but from looking at the roles there appears to be 1 moderator online now. If i had to guess "Council" is either an OAI community manager employee, or just a really dedicated community member. There is a role above that, but they arent online at the moment, but their color is "sherbert green" and they ARE OAI employees from what i recall

stiff grail
azure peak
#

so, the only actual OAI employees are "gold" role

stiff grail
azure peak
# stiff grail hm then there is a chance to become a Guide here

I mean yea, but it offers little benefit from what I can tell. I've never seen a guide or any special role be critical of OAI products, but that might not be a "rule" they are required to follow, but rather a criteria in choosing people to take the role in the first place.

stiff grail
azure peak
#

I mean that's literally 85% of online communities. Unless the community is large enough where outside influences pay moderators to kill/promote content (common on reddit), then its almost always an unpaid job

does anyone elses agent refuse to run for more than 1-2 mins? i was using it to take a pre-inservice exam quiz, that i already took the exam for (so we have 0 idea why we are being made to take 200 question pretest AFTER WE TOOK THE REAL TEST), and its refusing to run for more than 10 seconds now because of saftey. at first it would do 1-2 mins now it stops almost instantly

I just joined the server I don't know if this is really the right place to ask questions, moreover my question has no relation to Chat GPT. Anyway I'm looking for a free AI to generate a voice. I know Elevenlabs but it's a paid service so that's all... NOT PAYABLEcapybarathink

Comet apparently is a privacy nightmare according to Brave's developers

A quick google search should bring up articles documenting the privacy concerns
