you might be making a mistake in how you ask it to work with code; attach the code as a file it can read or link to your github, gpt is -TERRIBLE- at storing and regugitating code from context

try asking it what format is best, a previous model told me a json file paged at 1k lines was the easiest way for it to read code and work on sections of it, and seemed to do better. this is assuming you're a free user though. Really, it's easier to just pay for good code output, there are all sorts of code assistant gpts for paying users

Claude one shot it because it was a simple code change, I don't think claude is really better or smarter at anything, but this one qualitative thing makes it worth having pretty much.

Moving my comment here as I learn about this discord:
I had no idea I was using chatgpt 4o today until I got a warning saying my ?free chatgpt-4o credits", which I didn't know I got, had run out till later today.

It was useful because if gpt4 is better than gpt3.5 and gpt4o is better than gpt4 than I now know it won't be worth paying a penny for it. It isn't whether chatgpt is perfect or whether it knows everything but that it make the same repeated categories of mistakes over and over again as you beg it to stop doing those things. These aren't even complex things.

Because I now know that chatgpt 4o will be no better with respect to the most annoy flaws it has the decision is easy. The problems I have with gpt are with a handful of specific behaviors. Solving these doesn't require AGI but just someone to slap the crap out of gpt(train it) to stop doing these things.

One example of several:
Once we get a mostly working program if I ask it to fix some narrow bug which changes one line of code don't go and rewrite the other previously stable parts using some alternative approach.

I'm curious if they are viewing its flaws from the perspective of someone like me who retired after 45 years as a software architect that discovered chatgpt after retiring from MSFT. They aren't about the language being used nor the logic of the code but are behavior atrocities that are ridiculous.

Perhaps but I think that I am very clear when providing my requirements. That fact that after the fact it absolutely knows what the right way was, after it does something that it absolute knew was wrong, tells me there is a more fundamental issue at play. If that "issue" could be fixed this would be a major improvement. chatgpt makes false assertions of fact then if asked if such assertion is correct it will then admit it is not. Hallucinations are a different category of problem. What my complain is, is different.

Perhaps I should stop working on my fastest SD pipelines on the planet(my high resolution real-time videos with sdxl are gaining popularity, unlike the smoke and mirrors pseudo real-time stuff).
Perhaps I should teach an LLM how to think properly by giving it a proper "foundation" and letting the training build on those fundamentals. 🙂 Yeah, easier said that done but I'm the best there ever was and the best there will every be. 🙂

Apparently not, at least with respect to coding. I mistakenly thought that 4o was a successor and improved version of 4. '4o' has its own narrower nitch. It is confusing to have called it '4o' after people had loved(?) 4.
It might be more like a 3.5 with better "chatting" capabilities.

After that I got bored and saw there was a "run" button for google experimental generative AI AND an edit button for the code. So I modified the code to see that the system I was running on had 8 cores, and another test to see if I could create a SEGV, and remove files from /tmp which should never have important files in it.

Unfortunately the issue with custom instructions is that the bot will lose track of it in a session, after a while. Seems to happen more quickly on 4 and 4o than 3.5 (at least on my end), which is weird considering it has a much larger context window.
