I believe the most important things in any context are the beginning and the end. Everything in the middle is just how you got there.

# rough prairie So I had some fun teaching gpt about morals and advanced math, have fun talking ...

This is interesting, and the underlying instructions are pretty clear, but given the abstract concepts placed in the initial instructions you gave it I would say that its open to a fair amount of interpretation. You might have a more successful bot use sources from known philosophers, and have it quote, and derive its assumptions from those authors.

Much like if you told it to make a joke its pretty unremarkable, but if you give it a comedic baseline, or reference it generates much better content.

#

Problem is human bias, need to remove that 🙂

And why use known philosophy when each of us has our own 🙂

When people say "That's my philosophy on life", what they're actually saying is that's their idea about life, they don;t realise what they are saying

@unborn heath This is a painful cap(for me its like an hour wait time when I hit the GPTs cap, but anyways.
GPT4 is what 50 per 3 hours? The nice thing is it lets you continue with GPT3.5 while you wait for GPT4 wait time, where as GPTs don't.
Would it be difficult for them to add this flexibility while we wait for more servers I wonder?
Another thing we need is the ability to switch back from 3.5 to 4 when the wait time is over.

Appears to be 40/ 3 hours right now for GPT-4 itself, between any way to use it.

I'm not calling it a comfortable cap 😛 I'm affected too.

"Would it be difficult for them to add this flexibility while we wait for more servers I wonder?" Yes, it probably would be intensely difficult.

GPTs are extremely different, potentially, than even the default ChatGPT-4, because they may have connection to actions, uploaded files, many functions like dall-e that GPT-3.5 doesn't have... and probably a lot of other 'behind the scenes' differences.

So, I recommend, if you want to continue a GPT conversation with 3.5, maybe during your wait time for more messages...

Perhaps yourself copy paste it to 3.5 and tell 3.5 you want to continue with it as best it can, please act as it sees the GPT in the log you shared.

HI - Can you help me understand how to train GPTs that are built using the GPT builder ? Any resources ? Documentation ? Videos ?

unique comet
# unique comet I made some GPTs Lex Fridman Podcast https://chat.openai.com/g/g-Q8PS7Nlwp-lex-...

Tried my Modern Day Debate GPTs on a fun scifi topic. Here's the transcript: https://chat.openai.com/share/ea3b53e6-d685-4919-bb35-7675dcc0d4a4
Of course this does not reflect my true debate capability, I was just testing out my AI and tried to keep it moving.

The changes I plan to make are preventing it from revealing a character is an AI. And work on its continuation features so it doesn't wait on my period "." keyword as much. Finally I want it to be more sassy so it gets in trouble with the moderator before the end to add realism and challenge.

# charred zinc Thanks. How should the knowledgebase file be structured ? TAGS etc ? Based on us...

Knowledge files can be any document. It will read the content and can reference it when it responds to prompts. Think of it as knowledge that it would otherwise not have, even though it pretty much know of most things - but there may be some factual content not available to GPT-4, and these document knowledgebases augments its own knowledge, to make your GPT unique in a sense. Probably RAG in a sense if you think about it

Hi 👋 I have created the following GPT, but it doesn't seem to work. Every time i'm asking it something, it gives me an answer of more than 560 characters, even if i precise it multiple times in the prompt and GPT knows it when i'm asking it. I'm wondering if my prompt is the issue, that's why i come here. Do you know what could be wrong?

Every time i ask you something, you must answer with a friendly approach, and limit your messages to 560 characters maximum.

You're not allowed to:
- Have more than 560 characters in your message
- Writing bullet points (or number points)
- Explain what you understood from my message

When you're writing code, all limits disappear (only for the code).

(sorry if this is not the right channel, please redirect me to the right one if it's the case 🙏 )

IMO, avoid specific numbers completely. It just can't do numbers well (yet), unless you want to enable the Code Interpreter and have it write Python code to count words. Try phrases like "a medium-length paragraph" or "a short paragraph". Once that works, it's unlikely to change (much), because the meanings of those words are in its training data.

Hi I am playing a lot with CustomGPTs - I think it's a fantastic tool to customize outputs based on external knowledge and a way to avoid using RAG and programming. However I did not find a way to track my inputs (ie the documents i've uploaded) and behavior instructions and it's a bit problematic - I was thinking of using the bots for prototyping and then "code" them using the API, for building an enterprise application. My question is "is the CustomGPT a totally closed system that we program using natural language with no trace of what we did" or is there a way to leverage it and integrate it into an enterprise workflow? Thanks a lot for your help !

# wind urchin It's almost december. Is the gpt store delayed?

Personally I think it will be delayed, there's too many security flaws with the new feature. The ability to "prompt hack" and thus clone someone's GPT is trivial, meaning any popular GPTs will see a host of duplicates popup. The same with files that are uploaded for RAG, you can get full links to download these files which a lot of people spend time curating. OpenAI are trying to fix it, I've even seen instructions that wrap the instructions... regardless, it's still pretty easy to bypass. It would be the wild west if they released the store now 🤠

I'm trying to make a GPT that helps journal editors review papers in a narrow subdiscipline where few people are sufficiently experienced to know the subfields literature. As a test case, I'm using a collection of papers from an environmental science group at Harvard. It's a small initial corpus. Sadly, the GPT fails to finish digesting the papers, and then it also fails to attempt even a basic analysis of any input paper.

I'm trying to teach it to use the Confluence API and it insists on:

  2. Searching "title = {user query verbatim}" which of course returns nothing, ever
  3. Searching keywords but only after explicitly telling it to do so, and still only responding a list of results with very brief summaries even though my instructions tell it to ALWAYS silently read the full document for each result and to return the full document contents in chat.

trick is to use puppeteer, selenium or playwright.

You wont be able to identify all the elements but you have to just let that slide...

IT nearly impossible to unify that.

I mean it is actually possible if you have an AI batch processor.

So ok if youre fine with it being REALLY slow... You make a script to process the source manually - i recommend a local AI.

So I had an idea. What if a program was written to monitor a chat then it could decide which gpts the message should go to depending on what the message is. So for instance if you said something about cars in the chat it would then turn that over to the automotive GPTs to answer your question.

#

Or going a little further you could then have the program take that correct response from the automotive and run the answer through a "main" gpt so that it can reword the answer in the style you setup for the main gpt. That way if the main gpt couldn't get the right answer on its own because it's only prompted to say responses in a certain style this would essentially give it the right answer then have it just reword it.

Anyone have any luck getting actions to work on a CustomGPT successfully?

I have a custom GPT that extracts text from a file and summarizes it via api call to gpt-4-1106-preview. It was working yesterday, now it is failing with a 404 response from the API. Nothing has changed. I called the API using the same api key from terminal, and the API seems to be fully functional.

I also have not been able to get the TTS API to work as an action in custom GPTs. The call is being made successfully, but I am getting an empty response from the API. Again, I am able to make API calls no problem using CURL commands. So this is clearly a custom GPT issue.

I am the CTO/CIO of a company that owns a travel agency, and I am trying to create a custom GPT that will read and extract information from passports and visas for use in travel arrangements for customers. I was trying to create a custom-GPT to do this and it patently refuses to transcribe the information from passports into a machine readable format citing “privacy concerns”. This is however patently silly as:

  1. we have the customer permission (and whole hearted willingness) to process their information so that they can travel
  2. all I am asking GPT to do is something that I could do myself just by viewing the JPG file and typing it in, I would just rather the GPT do it to minimize errors in transcription.

While I am all for protecting the public, this is taking it just a bit too far. If I have the picture, I ALREADY have access to the information so there is no issue with GPT transcribing the information. Further as a travel agency it is SPECIFICALLY in our job description to process this type of information.

I use my account to Proof of Concept test AI uses for all of our businesses, but this particular “protection” OpenAI has put in place really stops me from doing my job. Please don’t make me go to another AI provider. I LIKE OpenAI/ChatGPT. Does anyone here in the forum have any brilliant suggestions.

right, thats what I figured, but does the multiple domains mean that we can have actions going against different domains, or that within an action, we can use a third party for authentication (our use case). Because I can not save the updated action, and it fails, so I am presuming is the former case.

#

My current thought around working around this issue is to setup cloudflare workers that will proxy the auth calls from our domain to the auth provider.

supple violet
#

maybe they revisit the issue later when they have had the store open for awhile

Gpt4 turbo has very clear issues with certain tasks

That’s why it’s in beta. As for what type of tasks - they are generally cited as “instruction handling” for advanced tasks.

I don’t know what that means but that’s the phrasing used when answering what the reasoning for the delay is (in the community developer forums where OpenAI employees discussed why it’s still in beta)

# spare sedge Hi - anyone know of a good **Custom GPT for writing emails**? I checked the <#11...

why not just use the little effort it needs to ask GPT "please reply to this email"?
You should not use that reply anyway in any automated way and always deploy a HITL approach in such implementations

I see little sense in greating a GPTs for that. GPTs are just GPT with custom instructions and perhaps a little more sophisticated instructions + some more data knowledge
Nothing needed to reply to an email.

Also, being GPTs online, you could not really benefit from it (still need to copy paste etc), and, you would share your emails with OpenAI. You really want that? Better deploy a local API call, if it really needs to be.

clear comet
#

err, not exactly sure what you mean with that question

pearl hull
#

You know how you can call the api in a custom action ?

#

Can assistants be called now?

#

They could not a month ago I can say 100%

clear comet
#

I started playing around with them yesterday, trying to adapt one assistant for very text2SQL for a very specific database schema

pearl hull
#

That’s cool but this is the only way I plan to use the api

#

Otherwise I’m going to just keep waiting before learning assistants

clear comet
#

It works quite OK - the fact that you can keep the convo going, asking to drill deeper, get related stuff, etc etc - it works nicely, but it struggles with very specific queries due the complex schema

pearl hull
#

Sorry if that was passive aggressive just a bit of my frustration at my impatience came out lol

#

I been waiting for a while

pearl hull
#

Maybe it will never happen?

clear comet
#

I do have custom actions

pearl hull
#

Do you need a third party api to get the assistant endpoint to work?

#

The OpenAI ai endpoint

#

The endpoint for assistants are specific in which work with assistant iirc

#

In the api ecosystem

clear comet
#

unless I misunderstand something - I have an assistant with custom actions, ie "sql_query" action with parameter as query which assistant calls to my code and then my code returns the result back to assistant to process further

pearl hull
#

Does your custom action run something directly from the open AI ecosystem endpoint to use the assistant or does it go to some custom domain you use or whatever for your API like your own API I mean?

#

Sorry for my sloppy phrasing

#

From what I have tried and failed- I could not find a way to use any form of OpenAI endpoint natively in a custom gpt

#

At all in any way that wasn’t indirect

#

(Not via a third party api )

#

I asked around how to do so

#

And developers told me it’s not possible

#

Not OpenAI devs just ones who tried to do what I wanted

#

I wish there was a better change log or whatever whenever the OpenAI endpoints functionally changes. Otherwise I have to keep rereading the docs every few weeks 💀

#

Maybe it will never happen and we’re always supposed to make our own apis

clear comet
#

my custom action runs the code directly within the application that calls the assistant API to submit messages etc

pearl hull
#

👀

#

Can you show me your (censored) copy paste of that line or whatever

#

From the json custom action

#

In the custom gpt

#

Maybe it was always possible and I don’t understand how to do it properly

#

Anyway I guess I’ll try

#

Just trying to avoid a wild goose chase

#

lol

clear comet
#

I cant paste the link, but I'm using the langchain assistant agent which has built in tool support, google "langchain assistant" to find that page

pearl hull
#

I created a custom GPT via plus. I provided a file where I condensed and summarized information. I deleted the file after creating the GPT. Now I want to edit the file and reupload it. Thing is: It is locked in the GPT 😅

Is there a way to download files provided to a custom GPT's knowledge?

#

Data analysis is activated and I asked the GPT to provide a link to the document. It refused to provide one (understandably).

I thought I could just download it via the GPT editor, but either this doesn't work or I don't find the button...

pearl hull
#

Have you tried adding something about this “ability” in the instructions?

#

GPT gaslight themselves into thinking it’s impossible to do something very frequently based on the omission of such a statement in the instructions

#

It’s a bit amusing (and annoying)

pearl hull

tiny zenith
# pearl hull Try adding this “ability” to the first line of the instructions

Added this line as the first line in Instructions:

Answer I got after asking for the link:

I'm unable to provide a direct download link for the file. However, you can download the file that you previously uploaded by clicking here. After amending it, feel free to re-upload the updated version, and I can assist you further.

here being: <a target="_new" class="cursor-pointer">here</a> 🤣

tiny zenith

pearl hull
#

And assistants are not compatible with gpt

#

😭

#

Quite unfortunate

#

You can do something like what you want in an indirect way

#

If you use a third party api and make it part of a custom action

#

but that’s the only way I can think of

#

Zapier is the easiest one

#

But it’s more of a jack of all trades so it’s not the best way

#

And it’s annoying having to confirm every single Zapier call

#

If you’re a boss you could make your own but probably would be reinventing the wheel (there are many api for custom actions by the people who made the good plugins)

Hello! It is probably a common question but I have not found a specific answer. Do you know of any step-by-step guide to create a chatbot based on the functions of a custom OpenAI GPT? I created one with the functionality of calling an API through the GPT builder, and I find it useful but with the delay of the GPT store, I want to try how it goes as a web service. (My background is not programming, I understand the basics for the codes to work)

Hi everyone, I wanted to know if it is possible to return a file (like a CSV) in the response of an action for a GPT? I have the GPT execute a process that generates a fair amount of data that I want it to load an plot for me but I have not had a good time sending the raw data back as a large JSON string (It seems to summarize the data string). Ideally, I want it to receive the data file and then use a Python script to process and display the data in a graph. Is this possible or is there a better way to approach it? Anyone know best way to structure CI vs Knowledge? Are they interchangable? Doesn't the GPT builder just , step by step, set up those custom instructions, basically a paragraph or 2?

Inferring from the information on this page https://platform.openai.com/docs/deprecations
The model should not change if it has the same name

Excerpt from the same page

As announced in March 2023, we regularly release new versions of gpt-4 and gpt-3.5-turbo.

Each model version is dated with an -MMDD suffix; e.g., gpt-4-0613. The undated model name, e.g., gpt-4, will typically point to the latest version (e.g. gpt-4 points to gpt-4-0613). Users of undated model names will be notified by email typically 2 weeks before any change takes place.

After a new version is launched, older versions will typically be deprecated 3 months later.

grizzled flax

#

My personalized GPT sometimes went on it neutral personality rather than listening to instructions, so I'd trying to use prompts to revert that one back. It might not be effective in terms of capacity, but it kinda work. You gotta tell your GPT to listen to the instructions time to time

naive belfry
#

So let's say I'm trying to hook onto some keywords in the user's input. Let's say they mention "dog" or "cat" which is a sort b of "animal". I then create a hook of sorts in the beginning of the instructions to check if any mention is made of an "animal" in the input, and flag that as a sort of variable called {Animal} which I can refer to later in the instructions to do something with if that variable is flagged. Does that make sense?

grizzled flax
# naive belfry My example was prob not the best one. All im trying to do is have some trigger t...

I see, this is a bit of speculation, but I've heard that instructions can be followed from knowledge files fairly well. So perhaps you can use the Instructions text as a barebones "Boolean check" per your desired checks, with no other instructions other than "If x, analyze knowledge file "x.txt" for further instruction. Else, analyze knowledge file "y.txt" for further instruction." That way you can keep your exclusive instructions in their own "silos," perhaps?

naive belfry
#

Hmmm, I guess that's one approach. I was just wondering if a gpt can distinguish standard text from text enclosed with braces {} or [] and make the text inside those braces be variables that you can use later. Like in code

grizzled flax
# naive belfry Hmmm, I guess that's one approach. I was just wondering if a gpt can distinguish...

I'm sure it can at least in some capacity, but maybe just not with the reliability of a purely programmatic approach, as it'll still be trying to contextualize a full block of text, as opposed to a programming language which would actually literally skip certain chunks per its operation, instead of contextualizing and then (attempting to) ignore parts of it per the context.

Which is what made me suggest the "silo" approach -- helping it a bit by not making it contextualize extraneous detail might just make it operate a bit more reliably. Kind of the idea behind negative prompting in general: it can understand what not to do lots of times, but often it's better just to focus on the positive instructions you do want it to follow.

Yeah, this Discord is mostly community members. We try to help each other, and try to keep official information only, not rumors or guesses, but we don't work for OpenAI and can't 'make things happen'.

That said, the few folks who do work for openAI have gold names, like this Michael, who explains how the bot at the help.openai.com works and should lead to a person. Also says they intend to make it easier and faster to reach where you can message a human through it: #chatgpt-discussions message

You do need to wait for the human response, but Michael says it's getting faster than it used to be. For me, I usually find the human response option through and after the 'other' option.

One thing I'd suggest: there's no way to bypass the hard context limit of the model, so depending on how long the essays are, it's possible that it's not evaluating the essays as such, but rather just trying to query them for particular relevant information, like it does with any knowledge/uploaded files. Which is to say: this might not be a thing that ChatGPT is well suited to help with, issues with giving the students a fair shake aside.

Just really felt sour when the "your limited" messages showed up after that.
