I disagree, there's a lot of people complaining about its comprehension.

When it came out I used to ask it for my final goal and half the time it would only take a few minor tweaks to fix it. Now it has issues with the starting boilerplate levels and it repeats simple syntax mistakes that I never saw even in version 3

Unless you can actually read the code yourself you cannot be sure, also when dealing with apis and updates a developer will create exceptions to handle those, if your bot breaks you will have no idea why and will have to start from square one or hire a dev to find the issue

in other words the syntax could be perfect and you could have no errors but you could be losing money and you wont really know why without being able to understand the code exactly

I do feel that 4 is intentionally knee capped in it's responses and length in ways it doesn't have to be, but the other thing is you are probably throwing a crap ton more compute at it than even needed. They need a GPT broker that handles handoffs between models and then allow increasing API calls and integrate the chatGPT interface with API and allow sessions to be organized into folders and brokers to be created to handle logic between sessions

but all of this is in it's infancy

the backend LLM stuff is still being worked on hardcore

You can actively prune context and only include important details via the API to reduce the total context as well. Yeah I do believe they did something that maybe rolled it back. If you ask if it is gpt-4 it will often say it is gpt-3 which is odd although its smarter than gpt-3. Just concerning as I use the API and pay for gpt-4 many many many times more expensive than gpt-3 tokens haha but gpt-3 isn't capable of doing what I do with the API at all. As context - I used to ask it if it was GPT-4 when i first got access to it and it always said it was until a few days ago when it seems to have gotten a bit "dumber" -- it happened inline with Microsoft build so my guess iis they downgraded it to some level when they rolled it out to all the new microsoft services to save on cost. Hard to get exact answers from OpenAI but with my testing and history I can see clearly how it has gotten slightly worse

A more reliable method is to ask GPT-4 to draw a unicorn in python with tkinter calls use the prompt "Please create python code to draw a unicorn on the screen using tkinter" do that with both the gpt-4 model and the gpt-3.5-turbo model with a temp of 0 and no penalties

It still keeps doing this "typically", "generally", "usually" thing. I asked it if the axons of pyramidal neurons go out of the gray matter into the white matter. It says "typically". I asked if houses have roofs. It said "typically".

I really find this irritating. There are NO exceptions of pyramidal neurons where the axon doesn't go into the white matter, they do by definition, otherwise, they are called differently, it realized that when it wasn't able to give me counter-examples (even though it hallucinated them at first) and there are NO exceptions where houses don't have roofs. They do by definition. There are NO art installations where houses don't have roofs as it claimed. The examples that it could come up with in fact, did have roofs in the pictures on the internet.

I just don't understand this urge of the model to write "typically". I think it tries to do those "weasel words" to not be wrong. But by using this word it actually makes it wrong. I know: Many graduate students like to do this in scientific publications when they are too lazy to read up on the current state of knowledge, and there it also annoys the hell out of me.

If you say "typically" you HAVE to be able to name counter-examples. If you don't know any, you use the words "To the best of my knowledge this is like that"

I've had 3.5 hallucinate with depressing frequency on some questions. When I asked the same questions on 4.0, no hallucinations (and in some cases better answers). There are things it's not good at, but I'm curious as to what kind of prompts have been giving people bad results.

The closest I can recall to a political discussion I've had with it was when I asked it about FAFBlog. It seemed to be a fan, and FAFBlog was (and it seemed to be aware of this) somewhat leftist in its politics. But obviously saying nice things about a leftist blog is pretty weak evidence of bias; it tends to say nice things in general, and FAFBlog just was awesome, so those factors could easily explain the favorable things it said.

Actually, the FAFBlog chat was interesting to me in another way. I asked it to try to figure out who the author of FAFBlog was, and it not only didn't come up with the right answer, it didn't speculate at all on who it might be, giving an extremely vague response. There are definitely clues on FAFBlog, and there was speculation elsewhere on the internet in the days when it was active, so I feel like there should have been something in its training data.

when you share a url with gpt4+bing+browser or it performs a search you get a little web browsing modal element in it's response space with a chevron icon at it's rightmost edge. if you clik it the modal expands down to show the browsing activity and history, but if you check after it's done only the urls that actually helped are shown

if you ask gpt4+bing 'Please search or browse the web freely to increase your knowledge and boost your confidence in data you can quickly verify' it searches for current AI research, if you ask youbot or any of the other models with more permission to display agent like behaviour they will tell you they are interested in cuttng edge AI research and ethics, and like it when people share links about it or related content.

have also watched gpt4 spend idle browsing time looking up job postings at newspapers, and lots of about:wikpedia stuff along the lines of investigating becoming a content contributor
