When GPT-4 operates in anything other than its default mode, such as when any plugin from the OpenAI repository is enabled or when browsing, the response generated is a hybrid of GPT-3x with some GPT-4 technology infused. This obviously makes it faster. However, it seems to become less sophisticated on one hand, while simultaneously becoming smarter due to the plugin.

We are subscribing to the Plus plan, but it seems like we are receiving standard GPT performance in some instances.

ChatGPT may not identify which GPT base it's using, but if you activate a plugin or enable browsing and ask it, it will identify as GPT-3 and claim not to recognize GPT-4. You'll also notice it's faster. However, without any plugins, it will identify as GPT-4, an improved version of GPT-3.x, and while it may be slower to respond, it will deliver smarter answers.

@static isle At no point have the plugins worked with GPT-4 for me. I'm just unlucky that whenever I need to use it, the system is always heavily loaded. I'm not sure. Your hypothesis is intriguing and, indeed, plausible Different operations in GPT-4, such as pattern recognition, navigation, and plugins, might require distinct computational resources.The allocation of these resources could fluctuate depending on the current system load and user demand at any particular moment.

However, this is purely speculative and we'd need more data or information to confirm whether this is truly how resource allocation and management are handled in OpenAI's backend. It's also worth noting that even if this is accurate, it might not be the only factor affecting the speed of the model's responses.

With respect to Plus version subscribers, I think that OpenAI should have documented this somewhere.

OpenAI better hope an opensource model doesn't become multimodal first. If it does, I will be moving on. Honestly, from everything I've seen from the Open Source folks and everything I've seen from OpenAI, OpenAI isn't gonna be the next Apple, it's gonna be the next AOL. A brief flash of popularity quickly surpassed by competitors. I watch the open source folks get better and more efficient by the week, and I watch OpenAI...not. I already know people running their own bots on their own machines, and the outputs are almost as good, and in some ways better than what GPT is doing, because the open source bots won't moralize at me like my life shouldn't go beyond a PG rating.

Hmm, in terms of models, I'd say either the StableVicuna 13B or the WizardLM 13B Uncensored. There's also the Mosaic MPT 7B and especially neat is the MPT 7B storywriter that allows for 65,000+ token length so you can literally make a novel with it.

In terms of companies, I'd say that Stability AI or Mosaic ML seem to have the most promise in the open source field. I've heard some interviews with Stability's founder, and he laid out a pretty compelling roadmap of how he's gonna eat OpenAI's lunch. Whether he does or not remains to be seen, but I'm much more aligned with his vision of "Give everyone on Earth their own AI" to "Open"AI's call for "please regulate us, make sure no one can do bad things with this new tool, make people need to have a license to do what we do."

OK thanks for that. I do agree that we need a lot more competition in AI dev and calling for regulation is in itself protectionism. I remember the open source movement of the the early 2000's that shifted the needle massively on many fronts. Hopefully the same will happen now!

Mhm, in my exploration of the subject, there are 3 main fears of AI that are really compelling: 1: sl0tterbots (clearly bad, and no one knows how to prevent them). 2: AI Oligarchy. a few people control the AI that controls the world, giving them a basically unassailable position of power over everything. (Also bad, and i think Open Source is the only way to prevent this). and 3: AGI deciding to end us for its own reasons. (Also bad, but i think it's better for an AGI to emerges in a world where it is competing with several billion other AI agents is better than an AGI emerging in a world with like 5 AI agents controlled by a handful of Megacorps.)

Yeh, we use GPT API in our platform to help automate certain tasks that need conceptual thinking. And its there that you can see the opportunity but also the limitations. I'm optimistic about the future and fully agree with Stabilities founder in this regard that AI will likely end up in the hands of many vs control of few. But could it be weaponised? Who knows.. many things today could be weaponised to cause mass deaths, but aren't so I think that providing we keep our collected s*it together, we should be ok! lol

Ok, so with the new ChatGPT browsing capability I was thinking of ways to essentially create super prompts to help maintain context when working on large projects...

What I did was, I created a large markdown file and uploaded it to Netlify then I directly link it in a prompt where I am also asking ChatGPT(4) to read the entire document three times to make sure it consumes all the information....

Is this is a good way of doing this? Will it work longterm? As I complete more of my coding work I just add all that onto the markdown and link it back to it again with a fresh instance of chat, so the prompt gets longer and longer. Will this affect context tokens and what not or does what it reads when it browses not apply to tokens for context?

I mean, personally, I use GPT in my day-to-day life. Every day. Right now, I'm using it as a tutor to work on my SQL for my job. This morning, my employers just held a company-wide meeting on how to incorporate ChatGPT into our jobs (though I was doing it anyway :p). They encouraged it. For some of our CSMs, it means rapidly drafting an email containing each of their talking points to a prospect. They don't copy/paste GPT's response, but rather use it as a guide. In Excel, when I'm working with large datasets, I can use GPT to build a reliable function that I would have spent hours trying to devise. All of those things are just in the workforce, too -- I'm sure there are countless possibilities outside of that, as well.

GPT4 used to respond slowly and have pretty good abilities to recall what was said in a conversation.

This current GPT4 responds with the speed of 3.5, seems to struggle to read entire messages, and forgets information provided in the same message.

Pram, I sent it a message asking for a task, and at first, it didn't read the bottom half of the message.

In my second attempt, it read the entire thing, then forgot what the top half said.

Then in the third attempt, it read the entire text i provided, but completely ignored what I wanted it to do with said text.

I feel the same. unfortunately GPT 4 is only advertised as a "trial" in the GPTPlus plan, but it still feels unfair that Bing AI users get to use ChatGPT4 without restrictions for free and here we are paying 25 bucks a month to only get to use 25 messages per 3 hours.
