My guess is that the extension that you are referring to uses OpenAI's Chat API, meaning that it could answer almost any question you through at it. As far as I know, there is not a controller that determines whether the model should respond with code or with regular text output. The GPT series has been trained on almost all information on the internet— code included. So the model has the built-in functionality to generate code.

Something is very wrong with GPT4 the last week or so. It is nearly useless. Bard may actually be better and Bard is terrible. GPT4 was great for some time but something has happened. It literally can't retain anything. I will provide it code. It will then offer a suggested change. But the change has no reference to my code at all. It's entirely made up.

I post it again same mistake. Again same mistake. I finally think it's on course again, and provide it a snip and it says, "Update your code to this and it should work." And it LITERALLY REPRINTS my code. No changes at all.

It never used to do this. This was common GPT3.5 behavior. Something is wrong with GPT4 right now.
