One problem with functions in particular, is that ChatGPT will give priority to context from your original prompt, and then most recent messages. So if you set functions early on those will be the first to be dropped out of the context window

In the chatbot, I store the conversation history as embedding up to a limit of 16,000 tokens. As new messages come in, I save them in the database and update the embeddings accordingly, making sure that the total number of tokens doesn't exceed 16,000 by removing the least relevant embeddings.

When it's time to generate a response, I retrieve the embeddings of the most relevant conversation history from the database, which represent up to a maximum of 16k tokens. I preprocess these embeddings as needed to make them suitable for use with GPT-3.5

Here are my 2 cents, but beware -- I haven't done any systematic testing:

• The model has some inherent limits (not good at stuff where it has limited training data, hallucinates, not "smart" in all areas)
• There are some intentional limits for "safety" (finetuning, which also makes it "dumber" vs. the research model)
• There is a limit on the length of question and answer combined.

But I'm not aware that there is some artificial limit on how "smart" GPT is except that.

Well, I'm not so sure about future versions of GPT, maybe enhanced by the right algorithmic tools.
I see a lot of people here who don't have any/much coding experience who are empowered by GPT to create (relatively simple) scripts or apps that help them a lot.
So it's not totally unthinkable that at least smaller projects where the customer e.g. is proficient in Excel, won't need professional devs.

Sure. You have to have knowledge. But that's not neccessarily programming knowledge. If you have enough clue to test the app and tell when it doesn't work correctly, GPT can help you a long way with the "code me a Python script that does x" -> "no, here's a bug" -> repeat loop.

It'd take a lot of sensory work to get to that level

I had it fail like that one time when I wanted it to write me a little script to extract certain methods from the codebase. It failed with the regex and counting the curly braces all the time. But hinting at specific problems helped a bit. It then tried all sorts of things, like abandoning the regexes and using Java parsers instead.

Dont believe you can, Was using ChatGPT plus as I usually do. V4 comes around. Use it on day 1, works fine, they had an outage because of the immense demand. The page asks for a reload. I did, i type in my credentials that are saved in both Lastpass & NordPass. doesnt recognise my details. Try a password reset for my email address, don't receive an email confirmation. its like the account doesnt exist.
