To be honest, I'm curious how well it can even use the 32k token window. May be useful for longer conversations, but I think it woudln't be a huge help for programming tasks. From what I have seen when using both GPT-3.5 and GPT-4 for programming, the more information is in the input window, the easier it is to get "confused" and overlook really important bits. So I think it can only process a limited amount of information at once, and sort of has to decide what to pay attention to in a large input window. So just being able to give it a huge pile of code as input does not mean it'll be able to work well with it.

The fact is just that I purchased it and was perfectly unaware of the cap. Remember that the data this is trained on took a lot of time to curate, and if you feed it garbage you will get garbage, so it takes time. It's extremely expensive to train right now

but they did fine-tune it on people's data from the previous chatgpt... for example gpt4 now can generate perfect "Prompt generator", so they probably fed it a bunch of chatgpt prompts that people tried before

GPT3.5 has 175 billion parameters, assuming that the knowledge increase is almost linear with the amount of parameters, GPT4 has like 250 billion parameters, so it's way larger, slower and also heavy on the server
