not necessarily, it's heavily dependent on your router setup. I run wireless and get 1gig down and up over my local network with a 180mhz channel on the 6ghz band. I max 500mbps in h264+ in virtual desktop (which is the same compress codec air link uses)

If his home router is far away, not capable of good enough speeds to transmit the PC to the headset, or his PC isn't connected via ethernet it could be why the airlink/steam link is bad
