@weary umbra it's just the game grab mechanic you are right. If you initially grab the rifle either high, low, left or right of its grip activation point, it quite dramatically offsets it. So I was initially grabbing the front before connecting it, then afterwards just tilting up to grab so it changed the position.

It's actually quite a unique feature because you can semi-customise calibration on-the-fly
