depends on the gunstock, if its using a closed cup instead of a open cup most likely the grip will not fit because the cups are made to fit the controller exactly, not a controller with extra bulk

What do magnets do?

So on the OlenVR Asset SBS (Split Body Stock) the two controllers are on two different stocks basically and they’re connected by magnet, you can disconnect the magnet to use both hands separately; perfect for extraction shooters. The Tomhawk is a little different as the trigger hand is holding the stock constantly and the non-dominant hand is by itself and magnets onto the stock. I’ll find some pictures to better explain this.

You can also mod any asset edition gunstock from olenvr so if you want to turn it into an sbs later down the road you can, you’ll just have to purchase the mod kit.

So with the calibration for a gunstock, I got one for Christmas, and I found that the calibration is kinda finicky
Like I line the AK up with the sights and everything in the calibration, but when I grab a rifle from say, the AR platform, everything’s misaligned, like the guns pointing upward, it makes no sense.

It’s weird cause I have the AK aligned but the AR is aligned completely different, and I’m sure if I manage to line it up to the AR’s sights somehow the AK will be misaligned

What gun stock do you have?

If you put both controllers in the stock then line the gun up to both hands placements so the sight is on target and aligned to the hands it should be good to go. Then you just make micro adjustments to the angle after to get it exactly where you want it with the grip on both points

Well there is like a thing at the bottom of the gun stock and like you can turn it left and right I turned it right cause I’m right handed, and it did help and for the gunstock calibration like turn the handle to the point where the gun is on both of your hands I don’t know how to explain it, but I can probably send you a video when I’m at home

i recommend a sling for sure if you like a sling, i personally can’t use one because of it touching me and my adhd lol. I do also recommend using a slot grip on your offhand so you can just pull your controller out to reload or bolt instead of dropping your entire stock or pulling the controller out forcefully

I just recently got a gunstock myself and I think it's much worth it and has most definitely improved my aim, but expect a learning curve. It'll probably take you a good hour to configure it in all of your games, as well as the actual positioning of the controllers themselves (Unless you get one with a fixed position).

I’d recommend returning it and getting the tomahawk tbh, no hate to wieldvr at all but the tomahawk just blows it out the water. With the tomahawk your non-dominant hand completely detaches from the front through a magnet (where I circled). The stock thats left in your trigger hand is very lightweight and does not interfere at all with looting or organizing especially in extraction shooters.

Gunstocks flat out are a sort of oxymoron since they are a necessary non-necessity object.

Beginners and pros alike can use one. Budgets aside, the good ones that cover all weapons from pistols to shotguns with pump action are an investment. Ask yourself if you are going to be invested long term into VR shootes to justify it.

Also gotta self reflect and see how steady your ability to aim and such is without it already.

So if you only need stability but mostly play shooters solo / not oline. No real need.

If its for multiplayer play and you feel like the lack of stability has cost you more fights than not. Go for budget.

If you are dedicated long term and want to cover all bases, you invest into stocks like mentioned before that work for pistols all the way to pump shotguns and inbetween

As for particular brands or general stocks. I'll leave that to the finer folks here to respond to as to what they recommend

Nothing is quicker, or more intuitive than your hands technically "never leaving the stock"

The magnetic split design is pure genius. Plus its super adjustable if you get the butcher or the tomahawk.

Unless you care about the stock folding down to smaller sizes for pistols and SMGs... you can probably just save a few bucks and get the butcher

If your worried about breaking it, I probably wouldn't go with the 3D printed butcher.

If you think you can be a bit gentler lol, then id strongly suggest the butcher.

Now.dont get me wrong. Its not a cheap flimsy stock, and it takes alot of punishment, but it is 3d printed

Yea. Im.not exactly sure of the materials that SkolVR uses, but its very tough. Ive slammed it into things on accident many of times and it keeps on ticking.

Yea, and the surface where the magnets meet is very large. You would have to try pretty darn hard in order to miss getting back into it. Thats what sets it apart in my opinion. You basically just put your hands back near your rifle and it snaps back together

I almost bought a pro-tube before finding skol. I saw the differences in design and im worried about finding that tiny little spot back on the tube where I have the magnet mount.

Muscle memory would kick in tho after a while im sure, and obviously theres alot of people that are REALLY REALLY good with the pro tube

So here's the thing. On the back side, you can put that cheek rest vertically, I have it horizontally simply for longer length, but the very first day I got this stock, I broke the cheek rest on my dresser throwing a grenade.

I told skol in his discord what happened, specifically told him that I broke it, and he sent me 3 new pieces for free and had me pay for shipping

The tomahawk is badass, and ill probably buy another one anyways when the steam frame comes out because im stupid like that.

But unless you play games like Vail, where you've got that first round always being a pistol round, ive never once found it useful to fold the stock down to "pistol mode" except for vail.

Thats the only time ive ever loved having the tomahawk over the butcher.

Yeah skols gunstocks are I think all made with Pla+ but there designs kinda make it so it doesn’t break from to much pressure if you do struggle with breaking your gunstocks you should probably pic up a pro tube since they look to be made of a really sturdy material

@winter stone Protube has 3D printed buttstock and cups. I wouldn't say it's more durable than SKOLVR. Considering only a few warranty cases and a few years of warranty on both brands, it's not a concern here. Carbon infill gives more stiffness and nice look, but less adhesion between layers. Pla+ and Super pla+ are much more flexible and stronger in-between layers. To my experience everything works just like the moulded plastic. Years of experience and thousands of items in everyday use may prove that for sure.

In tube shape there's Mamut made of aluminum in general. And factory moulded Onestock or Armory R1 if you're concerned about the most recent 3D printing tech and durability. But I wouldn't be bothered about that much, friend.

Its a solid stock for sure. I hate how the controllers dont quite fit into it super tightly. You are supporting it with your middle and pinky finger grabbing onto the cups on the stock.

The other thing that sucks is getting back into it quickly if you take both of your hands out. Often times ill resort to free-handing in an emergency if both of my.hands are out of it.

Im glad I have it because im an enthusiast, but I hardly ever use the thing, and if I had the budget for only one stock (no pun intended lol) then I wouldn't be buying that one.

SkolVR is king for me. I think another close ish contender would be the pro-tube. The adjustment looks like it might be a pain in the ass on the pro-tube tho. (I dont own one by the way), but i feel like smooth adjustment of the stock without tools in a dynamic game like tabor where I may use 2 or 3 different weapons in a raid is important.

So by no means do I consider it to be a "bad stock", for my personal preference atleast... there is better options out there for what I like

Does anyone have any tips on how to properly set up the calibration? It feels like no matter how I configure my gunstock or the in-game settings, it’s never quite right. Not to mention the in-game calibrator feels a bit archaic. I’m not sure if there’s a specific way the gun needs to align for the in game calibrator or what. if your stock can rotate your forward hand outward (onestock, magtube, etc), then adjust the physical stock to accommodate for the shift, if you are using a skolvr/rear hand stuck in stock style stock, then you have to just hold it really uncomfortably

Looks like you have no idea how SkolVR stocks are adjusted. I will attach a picture for you.

In ProTube you're not able to rotate nothing. That's exactly why they have different cups with different angles for Quest 2 and Quest 3 sold separately. You're able only to tilt the cups to accommodate. And that's a super strange weird way to do that, honestly.

And if you're talking about non-adjustable SmartStock, it's comfortable for sure, but just not allowing the game to put your hands in an unnatural position. Helps with tracking your hands better also. So you simply need to adjust your game to this optimum for tracking, comfortable, and universal for all games on the market position.

As for the angled grips off-set. It is highly recommended to use shift grip or grip put on the bottom picatinny rail, instead of making your stock unnaturally crooked and uncomfortable. It will also allow you to use any gun you like without readjusting the stock.

no offense to your design, but wouldnt it be more comfortable for one to rotate their wrist outward/inward to adjust vs moving the wrist left/right? ofc using a shift is better for any gunstock pretty much, but ive had 0 issues using the magtube with an RK angled if needed

as for the smart stock, obv its slightly more stable due to virtually 0 moving parts, but for guns like the ASVAL that have a strange grip point no matter what, id assume it'd have issues

For sure, friend. The pure rotation is better than moving left right as with Tomahawk or tilting it to the sides as with MagTube.😁
But to my experience there's an extremely narrow field of rotation needed with most of the games on the front. All other positions are totally destroying Quest 3 tracking unfortunately. That's very specific to Quest 3 thing of course, but at the same time it's the most selling headset out there, so we need to deal with this, with no doubt.

Of course, having the stock crooked to any random offsets any devs created is a dream, but it's not always as comfortable or sturdy as everyone's might notice.

So you're absolutely right about the more joints the less stability. And that's basically why the MagTube is made just like that, not having the actual rotation as a fact. That's no doubt, every stock designer has their own priorities and amount of users. To each their own.

I personally like how the Armory R1 rear cup is rotated for instance. That's amazing. Ultistock has that ability to rotate the rear cup also. But that's not even so crucial for cross eye dominant players in my experience, not even mentioning everyone else. But that's awesome overall. Especially with outside tracking, and especially if that doesn't sacrifice any stability.

What's the extremely narrow field of rotation? i can comfortably adjust my magtube for every game ive played so far (h3vr, zero caliber, contractors (all 3 versions), tabor, etc), im just not sure what that rotation is. Q3 tracking ig could be an issue, but iirc scope og didnt have issues with tracking even without pro controllers (might be wrong, hes been on qPros for a while). personally ive never had issues with the weird guns either (asVal, G3/all handguard forward hand guns, SMGs, etc). im just saying that to accommodate most guns and grips, the rotations offered by the tomahawk and lack of by the smartstock are not good enough. Until the in game calibration allows full hand repositioning, that will continue to be an issue

The accommodation to extremely crooked positions as you try to describe as a benefit here is not a benefit actually. All crooked and off set from overall standard positions are always not comfortable. You hold the real gun never tilting hands to the sides as you do with your index. What you're describing is worse than Tomahawk has in my opinion.

There's a very narrow field of proper tracking working while rotating the Quest 3 controller, yes. And you are protected from that in your Magtube for sure, luckily. Protected with not being able to rotate hands over the vertical axis as a fact. You only tilt hands to the sides or tilt back forward. I personally don't find it comfortable or natural, so thank you, that's definitely not a good example for me.

But I have a few good examples of proper accomodation, named earlier, though they have certain compromises.
