If we go up a little, there's the reverb G2, which had a troubled launch but is now ironed out. Best display at anything near this price point, and you can upgrade it later by adding index controllers.

So here's my issue with the thing.

You've got aesthetic greebling and a broad body which will disrupt the tracking of your headset, assuming you're using quest. You've got magnets which won't allow you to pull it hard into your shoulder or use sling tension. You've got 0 vertical adjustability.

You're at the same price point as a Bowk marksman.

I'd just get a marksman.

The fact it has 0 adjust gives up any hope of a cheek weld and will drastically limit the games and how you can use it.
But it's way better than nothing.

Cheek weld is more important the longer the range. It's more important the higher the magnification of optics (and very important for iron sights), and the quicker you want a longer shot regardless of optic.

Relative importance decreases with range, but never entirely disappears. At point blank you want more of a vertical head position and chin weld.

Vertical adjust is important, due to optic height changes and the like.

There's real life examples of this that can be seen in the difference between a PRS rifle, and a doorkicker M4.

That was from about a week ago. Right now it looks about the same with some mechanism adjustments. I think that the tomahawk style frame is genius but lacks adjustability. I’m going for a similar feel but with some adjustability and also lightweight. Oh yah and can’t forget about price, this’ll be way cheaper than the tomohawk.
I’d love to hear your thoughts and concerns on it tho!

So far what’s adjustable is the length between the two controllers (something I’ve added recently), the up/down position of the front controller, and magnet strength. I’m also working on adding an adjustable/removable cheekrest that will integrate with the shoulder stock, though I might scratch that if it’s not worth it. And of course the shoulder stock portion will be removable

Great question! Printing and construction time is pretty standard for most VR gunstocks on the market, currently for mine there is between a 2-8 day production time.

Then once its in the mail, each order does include free priority shipping, so once dropped off at USPS, it'll be at your door in 2-3 business days.

Don't use calibration / physical gunstock for it. Hand offset is your friend.

Gripping the foregrip on the handgaurd of your gun before you magnetize the front hand irl is key also

yes. not sure what problem you could possibly have with the joints

you configure them to move when you want, or dont want, adjust the angle and then you are done

3 broken joints and the amount of flex built in burned me on that style.
The rest of my gripes are mostly preference, such as a dislike of the design of the magnetic attachment (incredibly high, making the controllers levers on the magnetic joint, which itself looks unlikely to take load great), a dislike of the jerkiness of magnetic attach in the first place, and I greatly prefer the top mount style, since I find it gets in the way far less.

I figure mostly just different design priorities.

A quick google tells me that user experience with the solidity of the magtube was much better than the one I had with the mamut, to paraphrase a comparison on Reddit "The mamut felt like a springy bow, wobbling around, while the protube felt like the stick it was supposed to."
So odds are you're right on the solidity of the joints

the joints are strong (ive got over 6000 hours on this one) and the magnet designs are a damn near work of art, they wont let go or slip

its nearly impossible to get the cups off accidentally, but trivial to do it when you want

For science, let's hang something like 5 pounds off the controllers in the direction of the butstock and see what happens.

i can attach the stock with one hand and shake it as hard as i can and it wont remove

i believe the magnet design is patented, its ridiculously strong, like 75lbs pull strength iirc

but thats at an angle, for ease of attachment.
for a test i just attached the stock to one controller and tried to pull it off directly, it takes considerable force

From the viewpoint of accuracy, I care less about is it attached or detached, I care about flex or deformation when under the load of a sling and when pulled tight into the shoulder. Magnet based systems tend not to handle that as well, since rotating off is usually part of how they function.

Does it stick? I have no doubts. Can I gain precision from it is another matter.

you have this unnaturally specific desire for a measurement that you refuse to accept the info from the people who have the knowledge you seek

the joints dont move if you configure them not to move, though the front one is designed to be moved a little

so you can fine tune the adjustment between guns, since no gun geometry is the same

the design is simple enough to adjust how you want, and strong enough that you wont have to worry about anything breaking, and rigid enough it will not get in the way of any precision shots you care to make

for reference, i consider the distances we have in Ghosts of Tabor to be short range to entering short-medium range and find it pretty easy to hit out to max visual distance. ive played hundreds upon hundreds of hours of games that have 5x the draw distance and make shots that actually need zoomed optics, GOT you dont need zoomed optics because the max render/draw distance is really short

That I'd agree with, especially with how poorly the magnified optics here perform.

short range is 100-300m, medium range is 300-700 range where magnified optics would make sense, and beyond 700m is long range which would be a considerably hard shot to make in combat as the travel time is sufficient that the target is probably not moving predictably enough to land

static 1km shots are easy, moving 1km is 1000x harder

i have the sanlaki mini gunstock since couple of days, and now having steady aim i recognize that the "red dot" is wandering around while aiming, my problem is i dont know if thats the game and i just recognize it now, or maybe my gunstock is somehow interferring with the sensors, anybody have an idea? Basically i just have a small pipe over my controllers, so there are plenty of gunstocks with more material covering the controllers (quest 2)

i dont recommend stocks having parts that go over the top for quest 2 controllers. index its less of a deal because most of the sensors are on the sides, but i still dont like the ergonomics of an over the top stock

After calibration I can’t grab anything in my safe house and while using the firearms my offhand is out of calibration by a large degree. Is there any word on calibration being updated in the future? because as of now it’s doing me more harm than good.

3d printed with no actual warranty. Keep in mind that companies for VR products have no issues sending popular creators replacement parts or products. Actual consumers they are gonna hold to a T on replacement/refunds

for that price shouldve went with protube. Like Vr vets say "protube" or "mamut" for a pretty solid reason. Earliest review on it is literally from may, still to early to gauge if theres any parts that will hve a critical issue.

I do content and I can say small companies are all to willing to let a creator get stuff for free and said creators dont do their do dilligence to ensure they are promoting a product they would actually buy sadly. I paid for my mamut, but I got DMs from some of these stock makers hounding me to uses their products, especially when the views are good. More often then not @remote tiger people assume it comes with a year warranty.

At its core, especially for quest users, it looks allot like you're paying allot for a slightly modified sanlaki stock, with no adjustability. 2 pipes, about 6 small 3d printed pieces.

Niceee! Just a heads up, if you end up having tracking issues it’ll likely be because the infrared signals reflect off of shiny surfaces so there’s a chance that could come up with the copper pipes. But just a tape wrap would solve that

Fact of the matter simply is that at any level of investment you will always be better with a gunstock. There's a reason every single pro team in any VR FPS is 99% stocks, save maybe the one guy who does nothing but pitch grenades, but he'll probably have one too.
Especially in games with high accuracy demands and short TTK, stock does the job. Relative advantage just increases with range.

If these freehand gurus were actually as good as they say, we wouldn't have stocks on half the real steel things we do. Hell, even airsoft and paintball has stocks.

All of us will tell you the one we use, because they match out playstyle and we like them. I for instance will say Bowk marksman, and have concerns with allot of other stocks.
Realistically, its all design trade offs and you need to decide what you want from the stock.

Example considerations: How many points of contact, can you pull tension on it, how easy is it to get in and out, separately how fast, what kind of sling do you want to use, how adjustable, what format

So here's my problems with the spine, from least to most serious. You're at the same price as a bowk invert marksman, which I prefer greatly, has the same form factor, and is actually adjustable. You're paying for allot of greebling you can't use as a quest user, since it blocks your tracking up top. The magnet mounts leave me unconvinced, since it looks like you can't pull it into your shoulder.

Most importantly you're at a 90$ price point, without any adjustability at all. That seriously limits what games you can use it in, and how effectively. It is, at core a very slightly modified sanlaki full stock that is 2 pipes and 6 3d printed pieces, that has free STL files available.

Ive actually gotten this offer before to be sent knuckle controllers to make an Index version of the FreedomStock. And while your offer is greatly appreciated, unfortunately it wouldn't be that simple as getting a pair of knuckle controllers and making an adapter.

I would need to also invest in the full Index headset/setup so that I could do proper quality assurance testing with the stock and make sure the angles of the grips are correct, there aren't any tracking issues, the mounts aren't to high in game, things of that nature.

This is pretty good for most guns because you can put the mags in and grab the front without touching the stock. With some in game adjustments you can also pull the charging handle on some guns without touching the stock.

I got the controllers where I wanted them and where a good spot was for when I pull the gun up, then i adjust the shoulder and everything to get the controllers/gun to be the same spot everytime I pull the stock up.

Why I have the shoulder part like that > is to "hug" my shoulder a certain way, also offset/angled so I'm not tilting my head as much and for my headphones not to hit

All of us will tell you the one we use, because they match out playstyle and we like them. I for instance will say Bowk marksman, and have concerns with allot of other stocks.
Realistically, its all design trade offs and you need to decide what you want from the stock.

Example considerations: How many points of contact, can you pull tension on it, how easy is it to get in and out, separately how fast, what kind of sling do you want to use, how adjustable, what format

Because it is a cheek rest. Most people put waaaay too much area on their shoulder. Consider this shooter.

You need very little area on the shoulder to get the added stability, even with real steel. So offhand, stock is up

Na you good. Like I get what a cheek rest on a real gun be just from what I've seen in vr people use it as like a headrest lol. And yea I could probably adjust it to work like a little lower right above my chin just the way I have it rn is easier and doesn't interfere with anything.

I will be looking into trying to utilize it the way it should be done tho.

It's less strain on my back/shoulder like this too since I rarely put my gun down from ads

for both of those things, I'd probably take more inspiration (for geometry) from something like SWAT or FBI HRT. Pretty much chin welds, so they can keep a completely vertical head, and less muscle use just keeping things in line.
But I get your setup more now, and horses for courses and all that

One of the things that prevents me from liking mamut is you can't get full use out of a 2 point sling, but might try one out as well. You can put some of the strain on the sling while it's shouldered and keep it off your arms.

Get the type of sling you want

I have a magpul ms3 padded in a single point config, it’s nice but not really a huge upgrade over the standard protube sling. It would make a bigger difference if the stock had any weight

Sling is all preference, most stocks have very little weight so it depends on what you want if you have a magnetic stock

iiii dont know, i mean it did have snag spots but again its so adjustable i just adjusted it and now no snagging. On my previous stock they sent some kinesiology type fabric tape i know some would use on the shoulder/cheek areas but yea i havent had any problems once i adjusted it

You can either get a DIY kit from bowk VR and a couple delrin rods, or you can Google a maker's space near you. They will have a 3d printer you can use, and go for any of the 3d prints.
