😭 I don't think I'll be able to make anything that sounds modern
Try using different wavetables and automating different values
uhm
There is no automation or wavetables in Dexed
Since it's a recreation of Yamaha DX7 which hit the market in like 1980s
There are only sines and ADSR envelopes
Rip
This is a collab and like my part is the transition to the like calmer part and the calmer part itself
It’s not finished yet
@kind bridge if you can’t find the channel
This is the finished version I think

This is the original song
Ohhh dammnnnn ur things are sooooo fucking fireeee❤️🔥
Tyy
...
And u said ur not good
It's the best music I've heard from the ppl I know personally
Bruh
Ur are sooo good
My skills are NOTHING compared to urs
😭😭✌️
💔
I think my voice is fine, I mean like it's not the worst out there
😭😭
It would be great if sm1 writes my lyrics produces my song mixes and masters it and markets it and stuff
But apparently that's not how it works😭
😭😭
You can probably commission people for all of that
But things get expensive
Yeah, that's why I'm tryna do things like production and all that stuff by myself
But studies won't allow me
I'm in 10th grade
Damn
Soo i wanna learn how to make Dubstep, any tips or video tutorials? I tried to do it on my own but it was a catastrophical attempt hehehe

Honestly listen to some dubstep tracks to get the hang of the usual arrangments and patterns
As for sound design/layering I used to watch some of Ghosthack's livestreams
I'm not a fan of the others but Will used to be a part of the company and his streams helped a lot
Okay ill check them out, I appreciate it man.

No worries, have fun :D
guitar
ignore
Just choose a scale and throw in some random notes in that scale
Ohhhhhh thanks for the suggestion I'll try doing the same
hmmm
I made all of this (including percussion) with just Dexed
isn't it cool?
shi I forgor to ping you @merry hollow 😔
Lol dw
Nice
I was watching this vid once and people made entire tracks by just exploiting an 808
Its fun to watch ngl
If I ever do get good enough for that I'd definitely try to do something along those lines
The snare is eh but the closed hats and kick are quite decent I would say
Yep
Go to our sponsor https://betterhelp.com/servidamusic for 10% off your first month of therapy with BetterHelp and get matched with a therapist who will listen and help!
In this video, I challenged myself and a couple producers to make a beat with ONLY an 808 in 1 hour! This was a really fun challenge, let me know what you want to see next!
Sho...
This
Especially Rux's track (The one with the mask)
15 second unskippable ad 😠😠😠
Rip
holy shit that's a lot of plugins they use
also that isn't a Roland TR 808 sample why is it called an 808
😭
Thats what we call those kinds of basses
Mostly just sine waves with an envelope shape and some distortion
😭 What are other types of basses then
also holy hell
I had
FIVE ad breaks in ten minutes of the video
Y'know what I like the hyperpop guy
he's the cool one
:D
Depends
They're more so classified into a general type
You wouldn't call an 808 a synth bass even though it is technically one
Yeah I've noticed that a lot too, youtube is pushing more and more ads
But doesn't the drum machine literally synthesize it-
Like I said- an 808 is technically a synth bass, you just wouldn't call it one
Watching without an adblocker is brutal 😭
You could perhaps get away with calling a reese bass a synth bass but even then you could point out differences
I have multiple, youtube just detects them and has multiple issues go on if you don't disable them
I'll have to find a workaround for later
I use opera gx and it has a built-in adblocker
Works like 97% of the time
I do too, the built in ad blocker doesn't work for youtube for some odd reason
What's a reese bass
It doesn't have to be as extreme as this one xd
😭 These screen recordings take a crazy amount of time to load
have you considered recording at 720p
Dude I have to gamble a 50/50 chance for the screen recording to even work, if it doesn't I have to restart my laptop, I'm not messing with any settings lmao
😭😭😭 send just the audio then
I have to create a pattern and then export the audio
Hmm I don't think it's that hard actually
Unless you have a time limit
And that doesn't work that well when I'm showing it to other producers especially when I'm asking for input
Pretty much all things lol
But no yeah I get what you mean
I could do it too, but knowing what you can do will make your job a lot easier and faster
I think that getting into FM synthesis made me understand music a little better
I feel like asking other people for input is just about as useful as shaking an 8-ball 😭😭😭
Not really
Gotten some useful tips
Understandable
Anything major in sound design or music theory will help quite a bit
Also an interesting thing is that apparently you can get a saw from an infinite series of 1:1 FM oscillators
sine oscillators I mean
dubstep update and i think i cooked
😭 G#?
Also why does it sound like that one aneurysm clip sound
cycucoychkcocoy....- buuuuuuuiuuuunghhhh
ignore
LMAO!! You're right hehehzhhe

Idk the bass note was G# soo...
also you can probably make the kick more bassy
ignore
Bit odd but G is a pretty common key so ehhhh
Maybe just a bit too high for the sub bass
Repitch it-
:/
You usually wanna do like D#-G for Dubstep
You can go away from there thats fine its just those are usually the best ranges for subs to get through
dropping my voicwe
its not the best thing ive done
cuz i made it like recording and chain like in 1 hr or less
not the best jst a sample
@charred steppe @meager barn i want ur feedback too
pretty trash tho but fah
oh ig this thing wont come in mp but who cares
y'know
maybe you should put off double-tracking and interval singing until you can hit notes more consistently
also
do you have Newtone in your fl studio?
oh i kinda did that like there was one main one high
i do have grallion
That's not it
It's a vocoder
Newtone is a pitch corrector
kinda like melodyne
though I guess you could just use autotune
nah ik
whats autotune
hah
a
i use grallion for it
i jst dont know how this fucking vocoder words
workds
works
😔
A vocoder isn't that complicated
You have two inputs - carrier and modulator
And the way it works is that basically the modulator's frequency content acts as a filter for the carrier
So like if you have a chord playing in the modulator then only the frequencies of this chord in the carrier would be let through
Show me your effects chain for the vocals
not the tradition way cz im not a veteran rn
im a kinda kinda beginner
What do all these things do
ohhhh damn thanks for ts so basically im teaching a synth how to speak😭✌️
😭
eq, compressor, saturation, again compressor and volume
..
im super new to these things and also self taught
so yeah expect these things😭
Don't be reinventing the wheel
why u using fl studio 21
start with something like this
ohh
I'm too broke to actually buy it as of now okay
oh its trial?
I got it like 3 years ago and I'm too scared to update cuz I could get some viruses and stuff
im too broke or if i be brutally honest my father wont buy me prod edition of it cz he says its distraction and i should focus on studies, i smhw managed to convince him for frutiy edition
earleir
ohh
nah it's ok I did a lot of that too
But your effects order is messed up
you should go by the rule of compressor sandwich
put a compressor first and a compressor last and everything else has to be between them
ohh bol mate
ohhh aight
lemme try
btw should i use a vu meter
I have no idea
oh
tweaked v2 @cerulean pike check it out
maybe intrumental a lil too loud
and no regrets got fumbled
ig
I will when I get back home
if I don't forget
(I'll 100% forget)
xdd😭😭 nnpnp tho
that's a bad idea
Eh is it
your vocals should be a part of the song, not apart from it
That's why compression is so important
Oooooooooooi
you squeeze the vocals' dynamic range so they actually fit in the track
and everything else can be heard alongside them
and to achieve that you might also EQ the vocals' important frequencies out from other instruments that have too much there
so like
carving out space for the vocals
Ig I'll watch a video abt it on yt cuz why not
Ehh dammnnnn I never thought of that
That idea kinda seems dope
it is yeah
you usually have to find the sweet spot in the volume of both the vocals and instrumental that way they fit nicely together
hmm i dont really have much feedback other than to practice singing
and a bit of production tooo
cant really help with the vocal part sadlyt
Ohhhh yea
Np yea I need alot of practice on vocals and chain and how to layer them
Yeahhh
Fuck around and find out I would say
Also @merry hollow what do you think
Mixing needs work but sounds good ngl
Oo such as
I feel like the saw is too wide
And bass also might be too loud
Just overall-
But the part where the drums kick in mostly
Mm I see
Are they like too loud
Mm fair
@merry hollow is the mixing a bit better
Also the project file has like 80 tracks now 😭😭
I'm not sure- xd
I think you're better off going by ear and what you like in this case since I don't listen to many tracks that are mixed like this
Damn that’s fair
I think you can make kick and bass louder
and overall the mix is a bit too bright
Is it ideal for a guy who wanna be an artist to try to do everything by himself like song writing, lyrics writing, production of music and vocals and mixing mastering and then releasing, then social media and stuff
Ahh a lotta stuff
But should a guy try to do all that stuff by himself
Like me
You can yeah
But I will say progress will feel slower because you’re like
Doing a lot of things at once
Ohhh
Well that's the only way
Cz I've got no experience and money to hire ppl
Or money I might be able to arrange but idk how these things work
ignore
my brand original song made on garageband
Try sidechaining the kick if you haven't yet
Can you even do that in garageband?
😭
also guys check out this uhh thing I made
I dunno how to describe it
where is the kick
@merry hollow
with the transition im ean from the techno part to the melodic part
What
1:54?
No offense but this is the first song from you I can differentiate and that's because of the lead sound xd
huh
I have- absolutely zero clue I don't do Techno stuff, your best bet is to watch vids/streams on people who produce it a lot
A lot of your tracks sound like- basically the same to me xdd
because you don't listen to what makes them different
The progression?
Lol fair
i already did that
like
a lot
what about the mix / master
i feel like the break is too quiet
Try comparing its frequency spectrum wise to a song of a similar style
mm alright
what do you say about this synth
It's DNB pop music
well DNB has "drum" in it
and uh
kick is a drum
its there, its just not sidechained
bruh
guys can sm1 help
me
idk whats happening
my fl is giving cracked sounds and 101 fl cpu usage tho like cpu usage in task manager is on 25%
and its not even a big project
change the buffer size for the audio driver in the settings
wait actually first see if you're getting any overruns
i did 512 and 1024 it still happens
its says 3000 underruns
well yeah that's why you hear crackling
ohh
underruns happen when your computer can't process the sound in time
so i need to increase buffer size?
and you hear that as crackling
i see
well that's considerably less than 3 thousand is it not
yeah tho
actually it's okay to get some underruns when you just open a project file because some of the sounds aren't loaded yet
but if it happens like 5 minutes after opening the project yeah it's not that good
yeah idk whats happening this was the first time of fl acting like this
it still give vracked sound and 100 fl cpu usage
maybe you just added a lot of plugins
kontakt 💀💀💀
is that the culprit
ohhhh😭
bruh
i figured it out now
finally
i was producing at 192kHz 💀💀💀 thats why
wasted 4 hrs on ts
Rip lol
Fl studio in general is not the best at handling a lot of plugins at once so I have been debating to switch tbh
ohhh
i wanted to get logic but unfortunately i use windows
Yeah idk I don’t listen to pop
And I’m pretty sure dnb has like one of the most audibly and iconic drums
I got a friend who had experience with FL Studio, Ableton, PreSonus Studio One, Cubase (and maybe Logic..?)
And out of all those he praises Cubase
Though I have to say that FL's gui is the simplest there is and it is more suited to actually writing stuff with midi
yeah thats one of the reasons i chose it
It definitely is, gui and even simplicity wise
You're not gonna get the same automations and piano roll experience anywhere else
Understandably so
that same friend complained about automations in FL Studio being unbearable btw
Rip okay maybe we don't listen to them xd
The main issue rn I have cubase is that its gonna take me a while to get used to + major updates are paid
Whereas since I bought one version of FL I can keep upgrading it for life
Damn
Yeah
Otherwise Cubase is much better for things like orchestral just because it can handle multiple instances/instruments at once better
Bro I thought FL was expensive
I'm looking at Cubase and Ableton prices
Just for them to not provide us with major updates anyway
I think I'll stick to FL lmao
what about bitwig
What does bitwig do better
I was mainly looking at cubase because FL doesn't handle a lot of instruments at once very well
https://youtu.be/YaMVxI30w4c?si=tM-YKhJbY30H_GMd @charred steppe@cerulean pike
thanks for this guys abelton is very intuitive and easy to use 👍
the only other platform im semi active on is ig: @ownerscloset
u can find my music and stuff by searching for "closet" on all plats
i watched this yesterday
😭
that's basically FL user's experience with any other DAW
Yep lol
I have used REAPER, Studio One, Vocaloid and OpenUTAU (if the latter two can count as DAWs)
FL provides what is probably the simplest gui
And that was my reaction every single time
Oh god REAPER lmao
Barebones resource pack of DAWS
Its the Do It Yourself version
😭😭😭 When your DAW has a built-in wiki that is usually a very bad sign
don't
default FPC samples are ass
XD
lazer do these like
sound off
there is some like
clipping i think?
I mean it’s not that bad
more working
Not sure, been a while since I used saws tbh
Try layering different things instead of just saws perhaps
Supersaws, squares, keys, etc etc
instrumental for what

@merry hollow I layered it with OB-Xd
though my reverb work is still messy as hell
😭 OB-Xd seems to crash my fl studio every time tho
Rip lol
A good kind of guideline to follow is the reverb should mostly be done by the time the next time the instrumenet is playing
Or you can always duck the reverb a little bit whenever its playing and then let it come back up when the note ends
started learning how to actually play a keyboard
Nice man!
I used to have one way back but I never did much on it since I didn't know anything about music then
Nah it's still messy and extremely out of time 😭😭😭
And it doesn't even sound like it's supposed to
But I've only been practicing for like 4 days now with maybe 30 minutes per day
Its a start
Dw
You'll get there
You'll find the concept of it easier since you already know a bit of music production
i feel smth is missing
is it the delivery
and more things too maybe
or distortion too much maybe
drive thing
Mixing makes a huge difference so there's that too
If you've applied that flanger to the whole frequency spectrum try separating them and only applying the flanger where you need it, eq the sub and basses out of the instruments that don't need it so the 808s cut through, and mix the vocals in
I see btw u do realise the instrumental is not mine, it's "Long Hairs and Some Tattoos"
I jst made a chain and sang it
And yeah it could be better
I didn't used flanger anywhere in voc
Yeah like mixing the voc and pre made instrumental like this right
Not the vocals, I'm talking about the guitar
Or the synth, whichever it is
Oh I see
Yeah
can i use this as a sample if you want?
it's pretty good
it's out of rhythm
and besides the song isn't even mine
yeah i figured i'd edit it but it's too much work
it's not even that
it got the delay
so even if you cut it perfectly the delay cuts will still be noticeable
I use it for Voisona covers (mostly Chis-A)
I added my own samples to FPC like you said, still gotta work on drum programming a lot but its better than the default samples xd @cerulean pike
cool
I like FPC because I can see all the drums in one place and it sort of creates the feeling like I'm sitting in front of a real drum kit
So it's easier for me to write drum parts that make sense and perceive the structure of what I wrote
That makes sense, I'm just used to EDM where we need to sidechain and automate a lot of stuff so its better to see the file itself, so we usually do it in the playlist
Understandable
Well you can still do that with FPC if you route all the samples to different channels but yeah it'll be a little more difficult
Wdym?-
I'm talking like-
Give me a second
you can sidechain and automate a drum sample if you route it to a different channel
don't tell me you don't know that this routs the sampel to a different channel
Not what I'm saying- like here, since I can see the waveform I know the length and for things like sidechain and reverb automations this makes it a lot faster
Instead of just guessing
I figured that out during mixing dw lol
guys am I cooking
😭😭😭
Trying to recreate BFG Division for fun, honestly learning a lot lol, mixing still needs work but I think this is decent
why are you so meann
What lmao
WDYM
ITS SOMETHING DIFFERENT
ITS NICE
HOW IS THAT MEAN
IT IMPLIES THAT ALL OF MY OTHER STUFF SOUNDS THE SAME
IF SOMEONE PRODUCED 10 DUBSTEP TRACKS AND THEY ALL SOUNDED DIFFERENT, AND THEN THEY PRODUCED A NEUROFUNK TRACK, WOULD THE LATTER NOT BE THE MOST DIFFERENT DESPITE ALL THE OTHER TRACKS ALSO BEING DIFFERENT
Also I stopped using FPC for this because I figured out- having all the samples different already is much easier for me xd
THEN YOU HAVE TO SAY THAT IT'S THE MOST DIFFERENT
THAT SOUNDS DUMB THOUGH
ITS LIKE THE WORD TALISMAN
YES TECHNICALLY THE CORRECT PLURAL IS TALISMANS BUT THAT SOUNDS DUMB SO WE ALL SAY TALISMEN
WHAT
WHAT
TALISMEN??? 😭😭😭
IT SOUNDS MUCH BETTER SPEECH WISE
YOU'RE THE FIRST PERSON I HEARD SAY THAT
I'm trying to figure out how I want to reverb this snare
Because it sounds off
I'll give it a listen later
All good
What if I put 8 reverbs on it all at a very low mix
Questions, questions
and flip the polarity on some of them
Ooh good idea
I don't think it's supposed to have reverb at all
or at least that much reverb
Idk
I just don't have a great snare sample
I have some acoustic snares
I do too, just not very good ones xd
Though I figured out they fit a lot more with some OTT
Soooo
:D
how can you have 4k samples and NONE of the mare good enough
Because not all of them are acoustic -_-
Different genres
Now that I think about it I probably have more than 4k snares ngl xd
💀 that is mortifying
Wdym XD
you're probably never gonna use like half of them
That's fine, I've used odd samples from most of the packs and I'll continue using the weirdest ones
So I don't mind
microwave
type shit the CIA uses to interrogate people 💀
😭😭😭
@merry hollow is it coming together or nah
I don't think the drums fit, mainly the snare but the other drums too
should I add more reverb to the snare and make it quieter?
Make it quieter? Bro I can barely hear it
Are you processing the drums
yeah
With what
Have you tried using different samples
And saturation
no since I don't really know what I should be looking for here
I just assumed it would be sort of orchestral-ish so I went with my basic acoustic drum setup
Not really
You usually clip to clip off the transients which can sometimes be much higher than the rest of the sound
It makes the compressors job easier
yeah that's what I did
I just don't think drums fit there at all now that I really think about it
Maybe progress it with different instruments and melodies?
so like you want me to do it without drums or what
I mean no- its your track so do whatever you want, I just can't think of a way drums would fit there from my side
☠️
I don't even listen to melodic stuff like this so take it with a grain of salt xd
This is what I'm covering btw
You can kick me for how far off I am lmao
Wdym "covering it" lmao
making my version of it
So a remix
No
A remix is when you use the original sound in your version
a cover is when you make all the sounds from scratch
I guess you wouldn't know since you're not that familiar with rock music
lemme find an example
The issue is a cover still has to resemble it xd
Covers are in other genres too
This is like when DnB listeners try to say the term VIP is a DnB thing
I've heard covers before, they still resemble the song, but I'm guessing the main issue is that they sing/rap the same lyrics and with this song that's not really gonna happen

huh
😭
Again, they have the lyrics to go off of
Artist A makes the song
Artist B covers it, sings/raps the lyrics themselves
They have the lyrics to go off of while you have the vocals that can just be processed further
I'm literally copying the lyrics from genius.com
?
But I guess utau makes it sound really different
I see
cuz vocaloid is not human after all
Yeah
It may not make much sense for you cuz you don't perceive Japanese as a language but if you listen closely the syllables are the same
I get that, its just that from the covers I've heard they resemble the original song a little bit while yours doesn't, maybe its because of the vocals but yeah
I think this is about as close to the DOOM guitar tone I'll get without many synth layers
I do think I need a de-esser of sorts though
😭 I guess I'm just not built for copying stuff
or really really bad at it
Nono lol keep trying
Recreating songs helps a lot
Its what I've been doing recently and I'm learning a lot of sound design and processing from it
did you do the chainsaw morphing thing
I did not
That plugin is expensive iirc lmao
Zynaptiq morph I think
.... no
though the interface is a little more offensive
yes
what do you think morphing does
Its not giving one sound the characteristics of another, its blending them together
A vocoder would impose the characters of one sound to another
Just because its similar does not mean it'll have the same effect
it's as close enough as you can get "without many synth layers" tho
Not really?- first off, the chainsaw morphing thing was done for ONE song
Not all the songs
"trying" 😭😭😭
And also, most of the layers are synthesizers
What lmao
Am I stupid I don't get it xd
yeah but still it's the doom thing to do
True
That is true xd
I did find another plugin with spectral morphing called Chimera
I haven't tried it out yet though
what about two vocoders then

That's- still not how it works xd
🤓
You're just getting two signals that will still be different than a spectral morphed output
Signal A vocoded using Signal B
Signal B vocoded using Signal A
Instead of Signal A + Signal B
Do you know of any good free de-essers
Lmao
isn't de-esser just a dynamic equalizer?
Basically yeah, rn whenever I need a de-esser I just use TDR Nova which is a dynamic eq
Just would like to test out if a dedicated de-esser would do better
Hmm
I'm thinking of trying a different time signature
I keep doing 4/4 and 3/4
☠️ I can't even hear it work bro
do 6/8 it's rad
or swing
Lmao, depends on what sound is going through it, you're not gonna hear it much if the sound barely has noise
I mean yeah I can fit more notes in one of them but still
6/8 is two dotted quarter notes
Xd
I see
XD
No
That doesn't
But everything else does xd
Also what was the point of that riser
All of them
the second one makes sense no?
or you're talking about the sound design itself
😭
Sound design mainly
ah well uhm
Its alright- still doesn't really drop the energy
me silly
Do you use downlifters
downwhat
☠️
I guess I use risers as drum fills basically
....
Do you call them downshifters perhaps?
Or
Down sweeps
Anything?-
I have no idea what you're talking about
I use cymbals
:3
that doesn't have anything to do with the topic at hand I just use cymbals
Cymbals can work as downshifters but do start using them a bit dude xd
don't you hear crashes every downbeat
😭
That is NOT what downlifter means
some of my risers have a very very short downlift trail apparently
Cutting the downlifter bit off, and place on the downbeat of the drop with a gap in between the riser and downlifter bit
Sigh
so you're saying there should be like a quarter note hold between them?
huh
What the fuck why did my messages shuffle
@merry hollow apparently I can travel to the future now or something
okay reloading fixed it
That has happened to me too dw
Its confusing xd
Not always, just something to try out and see if you like
It sounds a bit dumb but whatever xd
😭 it was not meant for metal
:D
What is it meant for then
Orchestral?
this is where I used it
don't judge the recording quality, mixing and arrangement it was 2 years ago 😭😭😭
All good
I see
