What lights are you using specifically? I personally find that the "wrought iron lamps" give off a surprising amount of glow.

Part of the issue is the sunset. So its shadowed where you are because contrast.

I actually think the problem isn't that it's too dark, but that there isn't enough contrast. No matter how much light you add, it would probably still be black and purple on top of dark purple bricks. Is there any other pathing you like in that area?

It's the sunset yes, I hoped to compensate for that with lights. I used stage lights. I actually started with wrought iron lamps but it was like if I placed then just before my character I either had the lamps on the picture too or the light didn't reach my character.

I might have to play with the time of day, but I also liked the sunset in this picture.

So this may be a dumb question, I’m new and have only been able to get 300 moonstones for my submissions. Is it because of the tags? I just make sure I meet the requirements, will I do better if I up the tag counts? I’ve read conflicting theories.

Extra tags naturally boost your score, as does voting.

My main advice is to focus less on what the challenge is (outfit vs decor) and instead create an aesthetically pleasing photo with both decor and outfit matching the theme. As a voter, i dont remember what specific challenge it is and instead vote based on theme regardless.

You want to also use the optional tags for sure, not just the mandatory 2.
Like effie said, have both clothing and furniture match the theme.
However part of the voters do take in account whether it's a clothing challenge or not, so make sure that in clothing challenges your outfit is fully visible. And with furniture challenges you don't block the view on your furniture too much with your character. (That can happen with 1st/selfie mode.)

I love the updated hair colour.
You could consider going for a background/pathing with a litthe more contrast to make the dress stand out even more. Though on my pc it's clearer than on my phone. So it's not necessary.

I dont feel like participating anymore esp when I see people with 4k that barely put in any effort. I dont want to take it away from anyone but I feel like I deserved a good reward too.

not sure. I do think that filter looks pretty good in this setup.
The vocal point is pretty far away, and all the things at the side in the picture without the filter are more prominent making that the picture doesn't have 1 clear focus point.
The filter makes you focus in the center of the picture giving it more of a clear focus point.
The filter might cost votes but might also gain you other votes.

I get that it can really get frustrating when you get a lower amount. However if you submit a dreamsnap for the moonstones, not submitting will always give you even less moonstones (zero).
900 moonstones means you were in the top 55% of the submissions. That's really not that bad when you think about it.
Often when voting we see a lot of bad submissions, but that doesn't mean those got more moonstones than your submission did.

I think it is a pretty picture. I do feel in general voters go for picture with a broader view and more elements. Having a forefront to help ad more layers to your picture can also help.
But it can also just be bad luck, as there's a big group of voters that just vote without even really judging the pictures (for example all the right pictures) because they just want fast moonstones for the voting.

Yes but we can't force people to be dedicated voters. As the system rewards people for voting, but not for voting seriously.
And the system also forces you to vote between potentially 2 bad pictures or 2 good ones, and if you have to vote between 2 bad ones you have to actively back out, which costs a lot more time.

I have always backed out of the voting if there are 2 bad pics. Now that there are 10 skips, I still need to back out. I won't vote for something with very little effort. With the 10 skips/day I have been voting every day, so that makes me vote more. I used to vote on evening 1 and would rarely see any of the great pics I see here and other places. Now with voting daily I am seeing some of the fantastic snaps

I know it can be discouraging. Your design looks really cool. However, let me tell you this: the score doesn't always match with the time and effort you put in your pic and how great it looks. The scoring can be so random in Dreamsnap. It's best to get to a place where you care more about your design and how it makes you feel and less about the score. Easier said than done. However, once you start to gradually care less about the score and more about your designs and how it makes you feel, you will start to feel better. Remembered when you first started the game and didn't know much about the scoring and amounts of moonstones for Dreamsnaps and didn't care much about it? Gradually, try going back to that. It's ok to be disappointed. Especially if you love your design. However, don't let it discourage you from making more designs.

Exactly what nicegirl24 said. Some weeks, you'll put in ALL of the effort and won't even get 1K moonstones, and it's discouraging. And some weeks you'll slap something together at the last minute for the sake of it and get a good reward. So make them for you, for your own enjoyment, and the rewards will come as they may. You will find that you'll get more good than bad as time goes on, and regardless of the reward, it's free moonstones 🙂

I really would want that with all those items, all the kinds of fireworks just continue until you turn them of, cat in the box be outside the box until you interact again to but it back in the box etc.
I mean the "scary surprise box" is open only 2 seconds or less, making it impossible to use in a snap, which is just mean.

I did use the pyrotechnics and just had to run fast and make the picture fast to turn on both back stage and front and the fireworks and make the snap.

Ikr? They are really cool effects but don't last more than seconds! Effects like these should have a turn on and off mechanism. Even you don't use them for Dreamsnap, imagine you want to decorate your valley/biomes with them but because they do last long, it really takes away the purpose of having them in the first place.

The way i like to think about this is - you had stiff competition. Anecdotally when im voting, the algorithm seemingly places similar snaps next to each other. I literally never get a throwaway and an awesome snap. Its always 2 throwaways or 2 amazing photos that i have to choose between. And top 20th percentile is nothing to shake a stick at. You did amazing.

And we can help with that, for this challenge, think of evil queens like magnificent or snow White's stepmom. Ursula is a good example as well. Think about what a evil queen/king would look like. Also too, try to think about what their room would look like or what the outside of their castle would be. It has to give off this villainous vibe.

There isn't, but there are common themes that tend to generate higher scores. Such as: symmetry, sparkles, character involvement, filter or no filter, etc.

And to add to that - fulfilling the challenge seemingly isnt' "enough". If it's an outfit challenge and you ONLY put thoguht into your outfit, you won't score well. Ask me how I know.

Generally the tag counts are ridiculously low. And I mean ridiculously. One could hit all required tags with say, 5-8 pieces of furniture at the absolute most.

That's true, you'll be surprised. Since this is a outfit challenge, the tags only counts for the clothes, which it's not as easy to get high at as the decor challenges.

And truly, the tag counts do not NEED to be astronomical. From what I've seen on the Starlight Dreamer site, most top submissions just naturally have tons of tags from the placement, but they're rarely over 40. It truly is more about having a well put together aesthethically pleasing photo.

I think the set-up you have is really nice! I would add some lights to the front, behind where your camera will be. That should create enough 'glow' to light up the photo without compromising the spooky vibes.

I know I talk about lighting a lot here, but I play on a switch lite, so my screen is the size of a smartphone screen. When the voting is that small, it can be really difficult to see.

Yeah, it's a lot of practice and trying different things. I took about 40 different pictures before I ended up with the one I submitted.

I moved lights around, added and took away elements, etc. Played with how my character posed and reset the Raven so it would fly around again and go where I wanted it.

It's a bit of both. There are definitely people who take in account if it's a outfit challenge or not, so having a clearly visible outfit in an outfit challenge does help your ranking. But likewise there are alse plenty of people who vote for the overall picture, so having a good backdrop is just as important.

Not just tags in general though, I'm talking about using items that have all or most of the required/bonus tags. I've seen a few sources that mentioned using as many items as possible with multiple matching tags (from the top of the list in the "Dreamsnaps" category) boosts your visibility amongst other entries (meaning it will be shown to others more frequently when voting). Which is why you see so many entries where someone's just placed a bunch of random items down from the top of the "Dreamsnaps" filter & it doesn't fit the theme. I'm not 100% certain it's true, just what I've read. And anecdotally, my ranks have been consistently much higher overall since I started doing this. Of course, you still have to produce something vote-worthy to actually get high scores.

It would be that 3 and 4 tags items increase the amount you are shown, thus increasing the chances for people to vote on you. But not the total tag score, because having a whole bunch of 1 tag item also boosts that tag score but not necessarily the visibility.

For me that definitely seemed to have helped at well since I started applying that.

I am sorry to hear that you didn't get the score you wanted. Just know, one, your design looks so good! Second, the scoring of Dreamsnap does always match with how great a pic looks. Given that with challenge being punk rock, like an outfit challenge, most people have the same items and that can overlap and perhaps people are force to judge how the items are put together. If you truly love the design, that's what most important. Remember that the randomness of the scoring in Dreamsnap doesn't determine how great your pic looks. Your ideas and creativity does that.

I would suggest that all the items that are themed lion king or even jungle/forest like, look at them all and put them down and see what fits better with how you like it to look. For the walls, try filling them up more. Like the masks and mirrors you have there? Get duplicates from scrooge's shop and put them in a sort of patterned order. If you have fireflies, use them. If you have those tree branch like chandelier, use that as well. If it can be helped, decorate the floor a bit as well. You can also try your shoots outdoors and see what you like best. Those are just my suggestions though.

Basically you get a challenge and have to meet the tags to submit. The introductory challenge may not give you the "dreamsnap" filter in furniture mode (i genuinely cant remember) but for future dreamsnap challenges, you'll have that. Hi! Can someone please tell me how you guys get multiple characters in your dreamsnaps? You can only hangout with one character at a time, so when I see dream snaps, for instance this week, with Timon, simba, and pumbaa I’m really bummed because I can never get the characters I want in one area.

it takes alot of practice and patience. so basically u get one to hang out and then go to the biome the other ones are in and keep pushing and blockin them til u get them in the photo at once

you can trap villagers with a fence or items, and then go pick up the next and also trap them inside the area you want them. However you can't go into a building or use teleport while doing that, or the villagers will re-spawn in a different area.
Now for this weeks challenge I have a little tip. If you fence off the area, or the whole biome, and you remove all wells frm that area (you van just move them to a different biome), and you place pride rock in the area you fenced of, then go in and out of their home and big chance simba timon pumba and nala will spawn infront of their home while other vilagers will spawn outside of the fenced off area.

Then still it's a lot of trouble to actually get them in the picture the way you would want, but al tleast you have them in one area.

Ok, well it's a lovely start. I love the stars and you created a nice background. Adding more layers with more stuff towards the front, some possibly even furter to the front than you are, could help bringing it to the next level eventually.

Adding to this, you don't have to fill the whole room but if you bring your character closer to the furniture you've got so it feels like they are standing in a fully furnished room, you can accomplish that sense of depth.

My employee of the month snap is only decorated in the back 1/2 of the room but you prob wouldn't realize that from looking at it.

(though I am now regretting the blank spot on the bottom right corner :/)

Like @gentle mirage said, the scoring can be so random for Dreamsnap. If you truly want though, I would say at least try to get the tags count for the requirements if you want higher tags and you can then do bonuses if you can. Again, that's if you truly want to.

They both look so pretty. If I have to choose, I would go for the second one. The beige color scheme gives it a more "enchanted" look. Also, you can add a chandelier as well for more lighting(that's only a suggestion though)

While yes, I agree with that, what I learned in Dreamsnap along the way is that with outfit challenges, the creativity is somewhat more limited since we technically all have the same wardrobe. Because of that, outfits during voting will overlap. So, if there are two pic that the same outfit or similar in most ways, what's the next thing people judge? The background is the next best thing when that happens. While yes, this is an outfit challenge, it's still best to set the background and scene because you will never know who you will get paired with, if the other person will have an outfit that closely resembles yours. I treat outfit challenges almost the same way as decor challenges except I do focus on getting my outfit together before setting up my background.

I think you just need some items in the front as there's a lot of empty space there and bring your character up closer. You could even just move the tables up and add just a couple items next to them.

It's a great start. Maybe you can add the hover chairs on the front of the picture sitting towards the tables, and potentially drag the tables a little to the front too.

The trick with these challenges is that it's more of a photo challenge than just a design challenge. People often don't vote for what they think would be a nice design for a place, but for what picture they like best. Which really comes down to the composition of the picture.

Also generally speaking people vote for pictures with not to much open/empty space.

Of course you are free to do it your own way. It's a cute picture and if this makes you happy and you care less about what the voters do, then it's totally cool to upload it as is really.

Personally I think of these 2 I like this one a bit better than the last. It feels less random. And your table comes to the front more which makes it feel more like the person who watches is also "in" the picture. But others might like the " more full" picture.

Yeah the first few for this starpath I did in eve's house just to get the tags. Now I set up the area for my dreamsnap but I know I'll have to still do a final version.

I remember crying the first starpath I did, because I had the perfect pose with stitch and after re submission I just couldn't get it to happen again for the final version.

It eventually becomes second nature to do the same things over and over. I hardly ever tweak my photos anymore. But when i was still figuring out how to score higher, i used to ask feedback and tweak billions of times

Personally I go as far as making a picture, puting it on my phone and hold it next to my game to determine where I want everything positioned while being in furniture mode.
I do get 4k pretty often but I also do work on them pretty intensively.

I recently started playing Ddv on my laptop and it was great until I tried to take a picture. Last night I tried to take a dreamsnap photo on my laptop the second option made the background blurry and the third option became short and I couldn’t maneuver it to look good.
