It sounds like perhaps your game isn't seeing your internet connection. I'd try making sure the internet is working on your device and relaunching, the if it's still acting up perhaps the friendly folks in #dreamlight-help can troubleshoot further!

Just in general, some seem to have more of a blurred background in their selfies which looks nice or just clearer and seem better quality

The blurred background, I believe, is exclusive to the second photo mode on PC (maybe some other platforms? But not on Switch)

I've noticed that too. Closeups i believe have the blurred backgronds as well as the 2nd option (full body pic). But if you take the 3rd option (housing pic) and angle it the exact same way as the full body pic, the background will be clear. I'm not sure how it differs on switch though. Then there are the in-game filters you have to take into account, and then the lighting. (in game day/night cycle PLUS the actual lights.) THEN you have to take into consideration the resolution of your screen. I have two monitors and one has generally better quality and saturation than my other older monitor which makes some photos look really dull.

(I have to admit, my freestyle photo from last week was in the same camera mode as what we both did [landscape view], it might have been the wrong mode for the clothing challenge in particular. but the shot was SO GOOD at portraying the theme I was going for, with my furniture and clothes matching and the specific angle I chose to use…I had to use it.) So…I currently have mixed feelings about wether landscape view will work or not. 😅 I guess I like landscapes as well, if the situation is right.

So basically it's just angling and a lotttt of patience. I had to close Simba into a space and wait for him to go in the right spot. I used small trees in the distance to kind of create the illusion of scope/scale. I used the camera mode that lets you move the camera axis around

Thank you! I'm just bummed that I'm scrapping it. When I conceptualized it, I didn't think I'd need to distance the camera that much. But you can barely see my character because of the angling I had to do to make it work. If it was a decor challenge, id keep it. how much moonstones do you get from your results

I've gotten anywhere from 600 to 4,000. Sometimes the ones I "try" hardest on and load up with tags get me the lowest number of Moonstones, and sometimes the ones where I don't even pay attention to the tags get me the most. Go figure!
That's why I've decided it's more important to just have fun with it because I can never make sense of the rankings.

I see you're looking for actual feedback, so I vote for the skirt look, because in an Outfit challenge, I always feel like a look that involves choosing and putting together several pieces shows more care and attention than just choosing a ready-made costume or dress.

For your snap if you have any of the pirate stuff (like the row boat) you could add it to the background. If only we could have mannequins outside you could have a captain hook behind you! But it's very good as is!!

So does anyone know what the number scores mean? There's nothing to suggest how to tell what is a high or low score etc. So although I read these to find out how well I did I don't actually know since I can't tell how to read the scores.

I'm not convinced that the "score" score is actually important 🤔 It seems more like a record of how completely your tags fit the requirements, not a judgement on how good the picture is. Rewards seem to be based on ranking, which I assume is based on voting, and doesn't correlate to score as far as I can see, though I suppose it's possible the score is some part of the equation for rewards.

I'm sure there are people who have experimented very scientifically to figure out more, and I'd be interested in what they say, but I don't think there's actually anything known.

Score seems to be a combination of how many suggested/mandatory tags you have (they stop being counted after a certain number - I want to say around 20-30 of each for decor, you can’t get that high on outfits) and how many people vote for you when they see your pic. I’ve definitely had lower tagged photos score much higher than ones that had a ton of tags but also vice-versa, so it’s not just about tags.

There isn't a way to hide the feature entirely, but you don't need to engage with it if you'd rather not! Many people find it's a great way to get a minimum of 350 free Moonstones per week but it's entirely up to you

They might help make it look more like a theme park if you can put some between the rides (at least where it’s visible in the photo, especially around the statue). Bring your camera down closer to your character as well, if you can, just because it’s a decor challenge doesn’t mean people don’t like seeing your character a bit 🙂 there’s also a big empty space in the lower left corner, try putting some flower planters or bushes there maybe?

Of course, just offering hints to help out ❤️ I know what a pain paths can be to put down with a controller, even in the best of circumstances. It looks good, though I would definitely still try to bring the camera a bit closer to the action if you can 🙂

The paths on the switch are maddening. Id even prefer it be done like ACNH - 1 painstakingly slow block at a time - to avoid how garbage it is on switch.

I took a different route and went beauty & the beast. One of the best parts of dreamsnaps is how different folks interpret the theme. The discord is a very very small sample size of players, and the majority of submissions in that channel are either grecian or like... ancient bookstore/apothecary/sword in the stone/etc. but thats not necessarily indicative of overall player submissions.

The other thing about snaps is the tags. You may come up with an awesome idea but get stuck or have to redirect because the items dont meet the tag qualifications.

Yes, same! So I click the Dreamsnaps filter and let my pieces guide me... Pick a good base piece like a dress or a window/table/chair etc and then build from there... The theme park one really tested me with this approach, but I got top 600 without any theme park items💃

I do miss when the snaps filtering was available on the individual categories. It gets SO overwhelming in the "all" category. I know i can individually set the filters but that takes more timeeeee. Lol first world problems.

Yes! When you're in camera mode, hit X twice. It will rotate the camera behind your avatar. You then use the ZR and ZL buttons along with the joysticks - ZR zooms in and out, ZL moves the camera.

The xbox one should be similar. When you have your camera open, this menu should be in the bottom left. On switch, Y will change the size of the photo itself (meaning small, med, fullscreen for lens size) while X changes the mode from selfie to portrait to a free-range type deal.

What's the trick to designing areas for dream snaps? I'm starting to think my valley is just ugly cause I never have an area ready to go. I have to like dump a bunch of tagged things in an area. I feel like I'm just so bad at this feature

Week 1: create dreamsnap and submit
Week 2: voting for week 1's challenge (and new challenge at the same time to submit for)
Week 3: rewards from week 1, voting on week 2, new challenge.

Likely what BT just shared will help you fix it. Dreamsnap rewards come out wednesday mornings at 9am et (can take up to 2 hours to get to you).

For this current challenge, i highly recommend taking a photo or screenshot of your submission by going into the event tab, dreamsnap, and hitting the button to check submission. This is in case you dont receive rewards in 2 weeks. At that point you can submit a ticket to gameloft support. Tickets have to be done during the rewards week because once the week is up, the chance at reward is slim to none.

Truth be told, a lot of it is up to interpretation. You might have a different idea of royalty than someone else designing - or than the people who end up having the option to vote on yours!
Most snaps I've seen in #1235243027967250523 have leaned toward the motifs of European/Western style castles, medieval princes and princesses, etc. But there have been some really nice entries that deviate from that too!
I think as long as you do something that you enjoy, you can interpret it however you want and you'll be a winner no matter where you rank

I saved a copy like it said but then it said I could only save and edit a google sheets file. Then when I did save it again after filling it in all the formulas stopped working so it wasnt telling me my best score just essentially became a glorified table with my scores in and thats it

Its hard to tell due to the colors but thats with the "freestyle" title selected under best rank.

No that doesn't show. Those colours dissappeared when I saved the copy to edit too. No the only things I edited was the dreamsnaps titles and then the boxes for score, rank, moonstones and pixel dust. There was a note somewhere not to edit anything as else as would interfere with formulas

I would try it again with making a new copy and reattempt. You could also make 2 copies - one you edit and save and one you dont

That way you have easy access to the formulas in case something gets messed up.

I originally had no gold piles in the bottom corners but felt it was too bare there so added in the piles. I think it looks more filled in now. Also, I posted this in Dreamsnap Photo channel already but figured I'd post it here. Wanted to share my inspiration in more detail. I was going for a girl that had a lot of expensive designer clothes rather than just throwing a fancy dress on. That seemed too easy to me. Was thinking that maybe this girl could be a banker's daughter.. like a Paris Hilton or London Tipton concept. I wonder if she calls the P-R-N-D-L on a car the PRENDLE too?! It's a real struggle to get the characters where you'd want them. I would've liked more characters browsing in the background too and I tried but as soon as you pick up that camera they all run to the front and if I just make a picture super quick I end up with closed eyes and such.
I also literally pussed scrouch to the place I wanted him to be so he would be on the other side of the table to make it look like he'd be paying and I'd be selling.

I think both of these are fine. In the 2nd one your outfit is more clearly visible - you may need some additional contrast in the first to make the outfit "pop" but they're both aesthetically pleasing photos.

For those that don't know, voting determines how many moonstones you get while tags determine how much pixel dust you get. This means after you reach level 10 in the path there's no reason to go over the minimum in tags anymore as there's no benefit.

Voting does not 100% determine the moonstones you get. The moonstones received are based on how you stack rank against other participants, which involves your score. Both votes AND tags will increase your score, per dylan's image of the in-game dreamsnap tutorial, as well as the second image where a Gameloft community team employee provided the information that bonus tags AND votes add to your score.

Your score determines your rank and you are stacked against others in your respective group (either playstation or everyone else). Moonstones are awarded based on what percentage your rank fell into.

Is your Boutique placed in that direction? Unfortunately it doesn't toggle off with the new filter and if you have custom designs in the windows it will still count as ToM, even if it's far away and not clearly visible in your camera

idk adding more to it, using the fireworks that are behind the house like I originally planned to, making a full path the the house instead of just one piece of wood flooring that you can barely see, maybe adding more villagers that are also in their summer outfits, I could also flip the whole build around so the suns shining on everything instead of behind it tho I think it looks fine behind the house, maybe adding flowers or more foliage or more lights, wish we could actually pose with the gliders

Think this is my final submission for Dreamlight Art Gallery for my PC

This is beautiful! I absolutely love the pink and gold theme.

I am still very new to the game (downloaded mid May) and I have decided to give the Dreamsnaps a try. Sugary Style was my first submission and I was satisfied with the 1,200 moonstone. Here is my Art Gallery submission.

I went for a "Ariel's room of thingamabobs" kinda theme. Was hard to try and fit everything in the picture while still making it look art gallery-ish, but I did my best

Does your pixel level influence your score on dreamsnaps? In other words, if you have a higher pixel level, does that increase/decrease your chances in next competitions?

Or is the only use of pixel dust getting items while you level up?

I think it's just to get the items. I'm not 100% sure though. But I haven't noticed any difference in scores as I levelled up

I wanted to share my Art Gallery submission and ask if the "seperate worlds" idea I had translates properly? Eric's display is supposed to represent him being on the water on his ship at sunset, while the rest of the gallery is supposed to represent Ariel's grotto and life in the sea.

So players make suggestion that it would be better and easier for dreamsnaps if they could select multiple characters etc into thier dreamsnap photo, literally the following week from player suggesting that, a theme based on having multiple characters in dreamsnap with absolouteley no new features introduced to enable this. Like seriously gameloft, like do they actually read submissions etc. It almost feels as if it has been done purposely to toy with players. Eurgh. Sorry just frustrating and needed to share somewhere. I create my trap, hang out with them, then move them into said trap. I use the free rocks to trap them and just take the photo with them out of frame.

I will also purposefully place things in a way that there isnt much room for them to move, which guarantees they stay in frame. At that point, nothing to do but wait for them to do their thing in frame.
