Tof freezes and crashes after a minute on my laptop. I downloaded this version from scratch. Any solution? other than redownloading it. I have already tried Repair option.

Usually if the desktop environment goes down you're either at a terminal or back at the session manager (login screen).

If misconfigured (can't start at all), then you're always at a terminal.

update shouldn't have caused problems, that's just refreshing the package list. -- "upgrade" on the otherhand might.

Installing packages, same deal. A package might have conflicts and have caused other components to be uninstalled that were required for the desktop.

Ah, if you did a release upgrade / moved to a new version, all bets are off.

Generally the recommendation is to 'not' perform inplace upgrades, and to reinstall if you're doing anything major (one distro version to another).

e.g, if you were on say 22.04 LTS, you'd stay on that release until there's no further maintenance, then migrate via reinstall to the next LTS.

Far as why, odds are (most people will) that you'll have installed packages that are not from the mainstream repos, or configuration changes will put you into some unsupported state for an inplace transition.

Anyway, start off by inspecting the logs, see if you can find clues of why the desktop won't start.

Maybe try reinstallation of the desktop environment.

It may be easier to fresh install a release if you really want to upgrade though.

that tell you to use the teleporter to reach cetus island which is in aesperia. It is the flying island with amusement park on it. if you don't have access to it you can ask people to teleport you there to unlock the spacerift or continue aesperia story to eventually unlock it.
whenever the target of the mission is on another planet or map, it will point you to a teleporter as a sign. in aesperia it will point to the omnium tower that you use to reach hykros on the first time, in vera it will be either the research tower or the portal to innars, in d9 it is that portal, and in network it would be the first phonebooth you use according to the story.

Best guess based on the description is DLSS frame-generation. {black flickering of the screen, perceived motion blue, zone specific}

Assuming that's an RTX 40XX card in your machine, see if shutting that off improves the blur, and if the flickering goes away.

Outside that, if you modified any of the config files, you can simply 'delete' the config file(s) that you touched. The game will re-generate them on the next startup.

btw, for people who got stuck this time, check if your timer (the one under updating) is decreasing, I got an instance where the client actually applying update mid download and it actually stop downloading until it is done before continuing the download again.
you can check if it is actually frozen (timer is static) or applying update (timer decreasing), you could also checking the resource monitor to check if the updater actually in the middle of making changes to files inside your tof folder (there's a button to open resource monitor on your task manager>performance check the bottom most area)

The mechanism of transfer is not known yet, last news said you can access it using an in-game popup link. Whether that's the only way to transfer or will there be any link you can just use to access the transfer page via browser, it is not yet clear.

look, I am unsure, because I have no idea either.
Will it work? it would be really bizarre if it didn't run on a fresh default setting windows with only drivers and essentials installed. Afte rall, I just copy paste the entire ToF folder to another HDD and shove it to another PC and it runs fine. But there's still a chance it didn't fix it, because we don't know what actually happened either.
Still, even if it fixes it, reinstalling the entire pc is kind of overkill honestly.
I am not recommending it, but i'm not going to stop you to try. Maybe your pc is actually in time for another reinstall, and it just happens that it might fix it. If it isn't, maybe this problem tickles your curiosity too much to just let it go.
It is back to you on how much effort you want to try playing this game.

... this kind of grasping a straw but, try checking if there's any related event on event viewer maybe (right click on start button > event viewer)
then try finding "qrsl" on windows log>application or security log (there should be a find button on the right side after you're viewing one of them)

Anyone else have problems starting the game after update ? it just goes back to launcher (happens only on standalone launcher, while Steam one goes up to server selection without any problem).

tried exiting the launcher and restart it, Repair ...but nothing works.

Update: fixed, deleting the Launcher folder contents, use the install executable ( as if installing from scratch) and after that clicking on Repair redownloaded them and now it starts again.

• Close the game if it's open

Sounds like you restarted on a different server. When on the login page, make sure you're using the correct login method and the server is the right one too

This is a very general bug, and as obvious as it sounds Voidpiercer weapon is visually bugged, it doesn't show up...
Also the camera angle auto correct is tied to discharge skill animation settings, please fix that, thanks that is all
