Read error rate is definitely concerning.. Unless you're frequently moving around the machine -- and or were physically moving it at the time of the update. Doesn't seem that you have surface damage yet, however there's likely something wrong with the disk spindle / movement. OS queued disk operations probably are timing out.

Anything showing in the Windows Event Viewer under the System tab {disk related errors or warnings}? If the drive isn't seeking properly, the spindle may eventually damage the platters.

If vsync helps the load success rate, I'd theorize that reducing the rendering thread's load frees up additional CPU time -- permitting other game threads (and the OS) to do the needed work to bring in the assets. [think of this like having an extra CPU core free]

Since there's not infinite resources, and asset loading is very heavy -- it's all a balancing game so to speak. The OS scheduler isn't necessarily smart enough to make the best decisions whenever there's many engine threads competing for cycles. You could probably try setting lower FPS caps in the display driver's frame-limiter {or through third party tools such as "RTSS"}, as this might have a similar effect to vsync.

The loading screens are generally framerate unbound from the game menu set FPS cap. vsync forces constraint in the loading screens.

Adding on NVidia drivers and that recommendation to rollback if you're having problems. Specifically 545 / 546 branch releases. I've simply encountered many reports since these drivers' releases containing strange behaviors that did not exist in R537.

{for example, following a TDR with successful driver recovery, whilest running Tower of Fantasy -- subsequent launches of the game failing ... citing no Direct3D 12 capable device} -- After a reboot of the system, everything working as normal again.

If you've anything critical on the drive, things that you cannot afford to lose. Personally I'd make sure that you have a backup while the disk is functional, just from a precautionary stance.

When the spindle's orbit is not accurate, there's a chance that it mechanically may tear into the drive's surface.

Once that happens, you lose data.

Disks have mechanisms such as that G-Sensor, which "lock" the spindle to protect the disk when it's in a freefall.

Basically, keep an eye on those counts. If they keep moving and the machine is not moving / stationary, you've a problem.

Tower of Fantasy doesn't recognize Xbox One Controller's sticks. So the character won't move and cannot target.

Basically, just give us a rundown of everything that you're seeing. If the game client is completely closing (straight back to the Windows Desktop -- e.g, Steam reporting it closed / exited), then we're dealing with a crash.

It was normal gliding, but it seems to have resolved itself (leaving domain 9 to do other things, then returning to the main story quest) - thank you for the help!

Similar to the question asked of WendyZudon, could you give a description of what you're seeing? Mostly, need to establish if this is a crash or simply a slow load-in where the client is timing out.

In cases where the client closes completely, those are always local, whereas inability to connect and being dropped back to the server select 'sometimes' can be network related. A crash also means that we can collect a crash-dump for inspection.

That all said, since we may not be online at times that overlap and to speed things up. To those being ejected from the game, should that be what you're experiencing -- please check for the existence of crash-dump subfolders under "%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Hotta\Saved\Crashes". [Or Saved_Steam if the Steam variant of the launcher]

-- If those dump folders exist, and if you can send me a copy of the most recent of the subfolders (zipped up with an archive tool -- over DM's) -- would be glad to see if we can figure out what's going on there.

When you start the game, what happens exactly? For instance -- do you see a game "window" open for Tower of Fantasy, even if very brief (a split second)? Do you see a splash-screen followed by the game closing? Perhaps no window shows up at all, and the launcher simply closes?

Do you get into the game up to the point that you can select a region / world-server to connect to?

More or less, just describe everything you click and see. A video (if you can capture one) would also work here.

Well my pc is no longer in question as it died 🥲 but it was one of those HP all-in-one pcs can’t really remember the specs but I know I upgraded the ram from a 8 to a 16 gb….so yeah my pc wasn’t meant for gaming and I was pushing it……not an apple user usually but I think it’s a 9th generation iPad I’m using at the moment.

Um, sometimes it feels like a glitch as the game would start sticking sometimes and then just blank off ( like straight off) and I originally thought that that the game just got to heavy to run but then I it started happening when I was even doing anything…..sometimes just panning my camera causes it to shut down. Sometimes it works when I re-enter and sometimes it takes I few tries. Idk 🤷‍♀️ if I explain that correctly so you can understand but yeah that’s what’s happening

On mobile, unfortunately there's not much that we can do diagnostics wise. Mostly at the mercy of software updates for the game and for your device (pushed OTA).

You can try the basics of freeing up additional space, turning down the ingame graphics settings (if you can reliably get far enough to do so), and killing anything unnecessary in the background (other resident apps). Make sure that you also manually check for OS updates on the device.

That said, could you list which device that you're on? (whichever Android tablet or phone this is)

One possibility is that a game update was pushed amidst your download, and that you suspended the download after this was live on Valve's servers. When you went to resume, the client noted different version assets and re-started the download.

Not great, I know. It's one of the only scenarios where Steam won't be able to resume though.

else, depend on your internet connection, what advertised by isp is usually speed at mega/kilo/giga bit, not byte.
to get byte which what you see at your download speed, divide that bit by 8.

if you're downloading from standard client, there's a chance server limiting speed at your region for unknown reason.

tof current version is quite heavy, unfortunately.
i don't think enlarging virtual memory can help at your case, you can try, but at most is to prolong that sudden close.
RAM wise, this game ( currently ) can use up to 4,5 GB, with burden of running OS and sharing RAM for onboard to operate, it won't be enough.

Assuming it's a laptop, you won't be able to add a discrete GPU -- especially given that's pre Thunderbolt generation. {can't use an external dock} Laptop itself might be upgradable (adding more RAM). Couldn't promise how great an experience this would provide, and you'll still be under-spec.

Memory is likely the issue as GespenstMkI aluded to above, in that you're sharing system memory for the integrated graphics. Definitely use "DirectX 11", as a 520 series IGP will have major issues under 12.

Check your AntiVirus logs or any other security software that's present. Most of the time an error like that means that some heuristic was tripped, and software on the machine quarantined (or deleted -- one or the other) the file.

Once you've identified the software that moved or eliminated the file, add an exception for the "Tower of Fantasy" game folder {the entire folder, as there may be more that was touched / is missing--}. Then, perform an integrity check or repair from Steam, Origin, or the Launcher (if standalone), to repair the damage. The file should remain this time. [looks like a standalone install]

no, not vram, that's video memory.
right now since it is an onboard one, your 16GB is shared between OS and graphic loading.
virtual memory will help to reduce memory assigned to OS, so your RAM can focus more of graphic.
windows search bar -> type environment -> advance tab -> performance setting -> advance tab -> virtual memory -> change.
set minimum about 150% of recommended and max about 200% of recommended.

this will reduce speed of loading OS after restarting, and sacrifice more disk space for virtual memory.
Try the game, it will stutter a lot even with minimum setting at crowded area tough or heavy environment like mirroria city.

Go to device manager and disable your onboard Intel 630one. To make sure the game always use GTX device.
delete content of these folders :

Also turn on windows accelerated graphic scheduling if that still off.

There's two strategies in placement of swap. It's generally true that in terms of physical arrangement of the platter, the OS partition (coming first), will produce higher speeds on swap.

However, raw throughput is not everything. There's also seek-times to take into consideration. The proximity of the swap file to the game data influences the amount of seek time as the spindle moves back and forth between the swapfile and game-assets. {lower physical distance on the platter translates to lower seek times}

It's hard to say which placement is going to be most beneficial here, given there's a single physical drive in the laptop.

This only applies to mechanical drives while on that topic-- for everyone else reading. SSD's don't really have these considerations.

If the phone is stuck in a state where you can't boot, and if you've not done anything to it / storage is corrupt. You might be able to put Android into a recovery mode via a micro-jig, then re-flash the device from Odin.

I don't think I'd normally recommend someone to do this though.

If you're under warranty {maybe even if not}, take it into the store where you bought the device. They generally have the tools to perform a recovery.

well, your current allocated is already at 5GB at idle, try to stop non windows / gpu / motherboard / processor auto starting service at msconfig ( windows search bar -> type msconfig ) , and disable many non important task at task scheduler ( windows search bar -> type task scheduler ) then restart and check again the current idle virtual memory usage.( the bottom part assigned value )

put it at C with like ~3000MB as minimum and max about 8000MB if your idle assigned value remain at 5600 something, else can go lower.
using HDD means your OS boot will be slower.

btw you also like me, having an odd 90% returned to login page or sudden unable to attack stuff ?
90% was largely removed after defragging my HDD drive even if defrag value only 1%.
the game file is very unorganized if even 1% caused that, and only the game files received change so far. ( latest update was 22GB while overall game size increase was only about .... 3-4 GB )

for me it's the teleport to domain 9, change channel within domain9.
teleporting from domain9 to domain9 is safe or from dom9 to other map.
the old vsync stuff does reduced the chance of that to happen.
and after defragging again ( i literally had a , 'REALLY, 1% ?' face ), it further reduce the change of that to happen.

By not aggressive, I mean that its fragmentation metrics are not accurate and disregard a large amount of fragmentation. The Windows' tool attempts to strike a balance between the time a defrag takes, and the impact it has.

An advanced defragging tool that guarantees close proximity of files should in theory further drop seek times by packing the OS, game, swap, and other frequently accessed data, closer together. [yet of course I wouldn't go as far as paying here {just free tools} -- since if you pay anything, then an SSD is a better investment]

There was a recent maintenance, and at least on my end {just was checking}, a small update to the client was received.

This is something that I know routinely breaks downloads in terms of pausing and then later resuming thereafter.

If the game's assets change mid-download (between resumes), the client restarts the download.

if the game able to run before doing repair via steam, could be your onboard was being used by other app and a simple system reboot fix it.
btw, you'll need a stronger gpu unit.

AntiCheat driver "should" be inactive and removal not necessary. Did your system generate minidumps for those BSOD's?

These would be stored under "%SYSTEMROOT%\minidump\" normally. If dump files were recorded, and you can shoot those my way (over DM's), would be interested to take a look at what's going on there.

Update: Windows 11 21H2. These were the anti-cheat related Watchdog BSOD's that were resolved in 22H2.

Ah, viewing them with a hex editor. Looks like these are text files renamed with a zip extension. Your issue is the same as 0/25's. Will copy what I DM'd to him over to you.

@hasty tide -- Your crash looks like it's caused by a damaged Display Driver install. (OpenCL ICD is "missing", causing a halt whenever the intro splashscreen plays / as this is used per hardware accelerated video-decode)

-- I've sent some suggestions your way {over DM's} of how to tackle this with cleaning off the existing drivers and doing a fresh installation {a quick guide}. Normally an OpenCL ICD is bundled with AMD's drivers. Feel free to ask followup questions if any part of that isn't clear.

Yep, that's the correct way to go about it -- if there's no game-window shown. Most of the time that winds up being a damaged OS.

Counter intuitive as this sounds, you can upgrade Windows 11 23H2 (for example) to Windows 11 23H2, in-place, preserving files and settings.

That's usually enough to repair the damage, even in cases where DISM and SFC don't suffice.

• connect your phone to pc with usb, unless this is an older phone package which usb cable sold separately..... there should be cable which connect your phone to pc via usb ( from your mobile power port to pc usb slot ).

• open setting -> portable hotpot -> usb tethering ( option name might vary between devices )

Been quite some time since I've looked at Kaspersky. Which product in the suite is this exactly that you're using, and where was the exclusion added? {with respect to within KAV's CP and of the processes / paths included}

-- There may be multiple tiers of exclusions, or specifically a means to disable the network impacting parts of its heuristics. "OR" alternatively, you may be able to component wise disable what's impacting the game's networking, without fully shutting off the AV.

Gotcha, folder exception and also attempted a launcher exception. Since the issue is at game sign-in, I'm expecting that this is KAV's web / browser filtering {site-blocking} involved here. Trying to find recent guides, otherwise I'll need to experiment at a later time / reinstall KIS.

Anyway, since disabling the AV completely 'works'. See if you can individually toggle components off, and re-check if sign-in functions.

Additionally, since Tower of Fantasy is 'free' {meaning easy for them to test} -- it'd be worth reaching out to Kaspersky Support, reporting the issue to them, and asking advice.

They'll likely recommend individually toggling components, yet they might be able to work something out for a more long term solution (a real-fix).

Course, I've not tested that / so that's just speculation.

Hopefully KAV won't interfere with other web-based ingame functions such as the cashshop. This is a common theme with other AV's like COMODO, so it's possible that you may find more obscure involvement beyond the login.

well, even asperia can cost up to 2++ GB RAM usage, vera-innar is almost 4 GB.
in short, better to invest for a real pc or a 8 GB RAM mobile device, which no idea if that can hold if the dev keep using domain9 as map template for future content.
at least pc / laptop can be customized for extra RAM ( careful with some laptop brand ), but mobile is hardware locked....

it's due to map design and how the dev optimize it.
asperia is simple, only wide and tall, the vertical axis pretty much filled with thin air and just a cloud drawing which can be simplified at display setting.
mirroria.... those additional lights to give cyberpunk feeling is quite costly on the system.
vera - innar, it is 3 layer map in one load, heavy but fortunately not large.
domain9.... very large, with floating rocks at the sky as setting. the machine not only loading height but also depth which cover a very large area, add rendering blizzard weather at marshville area.

and then add the amount of players who use different style of costume.... kinda wish there is an option to render other player at their basic costume or at least disable simulcara skin for other player.

even then, not costing like 100% for long time like that, only few early seconds then reduced at 90% progress.
90% is pretty much up to your gpu loading texture and what not.
if that load remain high during normal gameplay like combat / moving / explroation / opening invetory / accessing menu, then there's another app running at background doing something. ( opening in game browser like item purchase is resource intensive )
could be windows update / another auto update app.

This is the right call, and in-line with what I'd be recommending to you over DM's ironically. Just got around to looking through your crash-dumps / replying to them, and it seems that the engine is halting during the loading of ffmpeg {whenever the Hotta splashscreen is about to be played}. This closure is due to that the game engine can't locate an OpenCL ICD, which normally would be something included in the display-drivers. {something went wrong during the driver installation and the ICD wasn't installed}

-- The game uses CL for hardware accelerated decode in video playback.

If reinstalling the drivers doesn't help, let me know. Often have to be more thorough and completely wipe the remnants of the old install off the system. {given AMD still has not re-enabled their installer's clean-install option}

so, my game won't let me into the server. I open up the launcher and run the game, it gives me the news screen and server select. But then it loads twice, and after the second loading it puts me back on the server select screen. Any advice?
I've already tried verifying file integrity and relogging into the account, restarting my pc.

Whichever is the default on a laptop (I forget which one is built in and which is a peripheral). But I did learn that the game works fine on my mobile data, but not on wifi. Which is the strange part, because my wifi works well for anything else

If the game works fine on Cellular data, odds are that this is connection oriented and not related to hardware. e.g, you'll likely need to get in touch with your ISP and #game-support . {Have both ends look into if there's a routing problem}

That said, would still be curious the hardware that you're using. Even if you're not sure what its hardware is, could you check around the laptop (usually it's on the bottom on a sticker) for a brand, make, and model?

I assume that you've already reset all Internet Equipment {Modem, Router, etc}, yet this is worth trying as well.

Reason that carriers do this is because a mobile device is required to stay connected even when in-flight / moving between Cellular Towers.

The HA guarantees that your exit point to the public Internet stays consistent, even as your device physically moves around.

Anyway, there's only so many of these HA's, and there's a good chance that they're physically far enough away to change routing characteristics.

Best way to explore it would be to go to a website that lists your IP's geolocation. You'll likely get a result that's far off from where you live on Cellular, and that's pretty normal.

@hasty tide – Yes, if you change servers / region, your characters are associated with such. You would be required to restart fresh. The act of restarting will yield a new character associated with the new world selection, and your old character would still be intact {meaning you can change back and forth between them}.

That said, all worlds within a given region are unified as things stand in Tower of Fantasy right now.

I’m not sure what you mean by the “blue guy yoyo banner” – first hunch was going to be the intro splash {based on color}, yet that sounds unlikely given you’re you’re talking about server-selection.

Is this on the Windows / PC Client, and resulting in a complete closure of the game (dropping you back to the Windows Desktop)?

If yes, please check for the existence of crash-dump subfolders under "%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Hotta\Saved\Crashes". [Or Saved_Steam if the Steam variant of the launcher]

that's a modem, just turn it off for 5 mins, and turn it on again.
and then at your pc, just close the game, logout from from launcher, and then relog again.

some probabilities here :

1. during installation or update, you have another antivirus outside windows defender. You need to add whole game folder into its exclusion setting, restart pc, and then do file repair, either via the game launcher or steam verify if using steam.
2. that onboard GPU fail to load mirroria for other reason, logout and close the game + launcher, then find and delete these folder contents :
   %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Hotta
   %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\tof_launcher
   %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\tof_launcher_Steam\ <-- if steam
   google on how to delete cache of your onboard AMD and do disk clean up to delete directx shader cache.
   Once done, try to find if your motherboard have updated driver ( usually onboard gpu driver is combined with the motherboard ), if any, install said update.
   Once done, open launcher, top right menu -> system -> change directx to version 11, and then test with going into mirroria.

If still crashing, go to :

System shuts down and restarts, yet doesn't happen in CP2077? Power draw in CP is likely onpar with Tower of Fantasy, plus the shutdown is happening before the load in / joining a server -- load in the server select before the initial load-screen should be relatively low. Interesting. Doesn't sound like a power related issue.

Please check under "%SYSTEMROOT%\Minidump\" and see if there's any .dmp files in there that have timestamps roughly lined up with the restarts.

Is the reset "instant"? Could you describe what these look like briefly-- more or less the default behavior of a BSOD in Windows is to 'reboot' the system. I'm wondering if these are BSOD's without display, or happening so fast that you don't recognize them as such.

If there's a failed TDR (timeout display reset), and the kernel produces a bluescreen, you wouldn't be guaranteed to see a display for instance.

Game crash-dumps might also be useful, but those probably aren't collected on the times triggering a reboot.

On that note, you can also try disabling the automatic reboot option -- to see if you'll get a BSOD shown:

Assume Touhou is 2D. Reboots might be connected to hardware acceleration / when the GPU kicks into high gear.

You mentioned that temperatures are under control.

Best bet would be to try hitting the machine with an individual load on the CPU and GPU, and see what happens.

If nothing happens, try a combined load.

When I say hit them with a load, I'm talking stress-test software here, such as Prime95 and Furmark.

Each server you creative your character in retains their UID; No overwrites, etc.

so the code (if it stays the same as before) wont be able to say where tf is my chracter now
