Now I don’t know that much about Hadestown but this is almost exactly how I imagine an act 5 house trek song sounding. The lonely, marching instrumental and singing, Eurydice’s much more hopeful parts reminding me of when the party appears but they aren’t actually there, the doubt (heh-) it’s great

The thing about loop (to me at least) is that it’s established in game that loop doesn’t really want anyone to know what their deal is, that’s why the two hats ending can be a little tedious to get in the first place. So I don’t really see loop doing something like that? At least not on purpose

I guess in my mind, I see loop as a bit of a narrator outside the story/stageplay (separate from the in musical one) that loop the story back (more specifically before the point before you battle them, and after the climax) to show the two hats ending.
But I can understand the complications of trying to make it all work and make sense.
So I do see the reason to

I believe that, despite being 'full game spoilers', that just refers to act based spoilers. So for example, I can be like. 'Did you know Siffrin without a hat in act 6 represents their willingness to be more open, their ability to hide secrets blown away on the wind with their hat' and not spoiler that, but I still spoiler (Two hats) ||Which is why I think it is so interesting that the Loop eating a star scene occurs with a hatless Siffrin'|| just to be safe. I could be wrong, but rather safe than sorry!

Technically I didn't get to make it through the whole game yet (switch lite, ||floor 2|| before issues bothered me too much) & watched a lil bit of a playthrough, so I already know I'ma LOVE it. Just won't mess with certain fan content too too much just yet, or at least until I fix my switch issue or manage to deal with n continue (trying to be blind/mostly blind if possible)

I was remembering the opening of the Beetlejuice musical, and how meta and irreverent the title character is. (Look up the Tony’s performance on YT, it’s great)
It made me think of the ideas bouncing around on here for StartAgain
Specifically, where the opening number is the same as the closing number except for Sif’s behavior.
But that made me think about Loop, and Sif’s loop tendencies.
That made me think of the arc of the show starting with Sif feeling more like Loop. Then they decide to try doing a perfect run, and we see more of shy Sifren
Loop’s 4th wall breaking is one of my favorite parts of their character. It could be really cool to add that in to Back to the Stage
Potential outline for what I’m currently calling Back to the Stage
We have our opener, which is the Bows/Finale number. Sifren is full Loop, all crazy and having a mild breakdown as they welcome the audience to their show
Transition scenes of some kind, a bit of exposition but not much
Then we get the montage of Sif trying and failing to not cause suspicion. After many loops, they succeed, reach the king, and die. (Or something. Might rewrite the plot.)
Then we go into bows again, and Sifren plays along perfectly right up until it loops. They have another break down before we break for intermission
Act 2 is Sifren trying to do that again, but increasingly attracting suspicion until we have the first major change in the rest of the group. They get a song they didn’t have before and Sifren doesn’t know the words.
Plot happens, they beat the king.
They go into bows, triumphant this time, then it loops one final time, leaving Sifren on the stage, devastated.
I like the idea of designing the structure in such a way that the program can exist outside of the loops
Like, it doesn’t mention 2 acts anywhere, and all the songs are in the same order and have the same name. But they’re completely different because Sifren is different
In Pippin, there’s a song near the end that isn’t in the program. The Ringmaster makes a big deal out of the fact that the song isn’t supposed to be there
Sifren having access to the program and pulling it out in confusion when the team breaks out into their “we’re here for you Sifren” song would be hilarious
The montage scene could have some basic stage magic effects to sell the loop. Like Sif pops open a drawer as he goes by then puts it in the door. Someone asks how they knew to grab the key, and Sif sighs with exasperation. The loop effect goes off, and they hide the key in their pocket or something.
Then they’re trying to door, and say “hey, it’s locked! Must be a key around here somewhere”, before heading over to the drawer and ‘finding’ it. Or Isa finds it and tosses it over to Sifren by the door.
The trick being multiple keys in the drawer,

A series of character driven songs where everyone else is highlighted. We get to see the conclusion of their narrative arts, despite the fact that we’ve not actually known them that long as an audience. Then we go through this again in two, different bypasses each of the puzzles that they needed to have a character moment for.
Mira about anxiety, Isa about accepting himself, Bonnie about it being OK to be sad, and Odile confessing that she has been in a time loop this whole time, but didn’t want to say anything in case anyone judged her. You know, typical Odile stuff.
Could even go full act 5 with it, and have the Sifren bypasses in the second half of the show undermine their character moments in such a way that hurts and offends

But yeah, I just love the idea of Sif having the first bow. Because before the time loop, they’re the least important character.
So the opening shot is an overture medley thing, then Sifren comes out and does their final bow. Then Bonnie and Odile, Isa, then Mira. If the show was playing out the way it’s supposed to, Mira’s the main character.

We could play into that, like maybe at the beginning with Loop eating the star, the End of Play thing is going off but it's distorted, muffled, because they're just...so tired...it fades out as the intro song and sequence someone thought up a while ago triggers and it's Sif's turn
like it's the overture but the rest of the cast (that we don't see or at least barely see) are doing the final bow in a line, but Loop has walked off (or rather walked on to the stage) just a spotlight on them
the backing drone starts happening and it's the star eating sequence
the "outro" is so muffled that you only clock it as such at the end of the musical
their walk onto the stage is of someone who is so tired, dropping to their knees, just incoherent sobbing because we don't know the context of this just yet

Soooo I had an idea for this specific scene 👀
Sif sees the bathroom door for what feels like the thousandth time. They turn toward it, then stop.
SIFFRIN: Enough monologuing.
He starts to walk away, but then turns back. Again, they head for the door, then stop.
SIFFRIN: No! Enough monologuing!
This is repeated one more time. He stares at the door for a moment before turning to the audience.
SIFFRIN: Urgh!!! Fine!!! I know I can get a little obsessed with monologues sometimes, but a little spiralling never hurt nobody!!!
They stride to the center of the stage, clearly addressing the audience.
SIFFRIN: I'm sad. I'm alone. Everyone left me behind because I'm such a horrible terrible disgusting person I thought it'd be fine to make them get cool skills faster. (shakily) As if they were nothing more than characters in a play.
They begin pacing back and forth, but are still facing the audience.
SIFFRIN: Because that's what they are at this point, aren't they? That's what they've been to me, since we managed to beat the King. I can't let them be anything else.
They stop back at the center, heaving. He grips his hair.
SIFFRIN: Because otherwise-
He chokes back a sob, then continues.
SIFFRIN: Otherwise I'd have to deal with the fact that because of this loop, I'm denying them agency, change, a future.
They let go of their hair, angrily waving his hands.
SIFFRIN: But it's not my fault, is it? That I'm stuck here? So why do I have to deal with anything?
He pauses, clearly realizing something. Their hands fall to their sides.
SIFFRIN: But it is my fault, because I've wished for something like this for a while, haven't I? (Laughs) A chance to always remember my adventures with them. To continue. To continue, for-
The lights flash red, and Siffrin falls to their knees. He clutches his head, clearly in pain, as the stage goes dark.
Lights on. Siffrin is standing, facing away from the bathroom door, as if nothing happened.
SIFFRIN: End of monologue.

someone might've mentioned this here but I love the idea of having in-universe bows every time they get to the end (HH chat). like everyone comes out and bows in order of "character importance." so the dormont ensemble bows, then euphrasie and the king, then siffrin and bonnie, isa and odile, then finally mirabelle. (as this is sort of the story of the saving of vaugarde and mirabelle is the one blessed by the change god etc, she's the "lead" in this case.) ofc each time siffrin looks more and more exhausted, etc, even "fast forwarding" through them. (Loop is specifically not in these in-universe bows because of them being the "sponsor".)
At the end of act 4, the bows start normally, but as soon as Euphrasie and the King are about to bow, Siffrin forces them off stage and has The Mental Breakdown Song Number, starting Act 5.
And ofc finally, at the end of the show, we have the real bows - similar to before, but Mira, Isa, Odile, and Bonnie bow together (since in the story story they're of similar importance) and for the lead bows, Sif and Loop go together, signifying the true stars of the show (hehe funny pun). :D

The bows can stumble a bit when HH has her whole "Failing, Rotting" speech probably right as Mira's about to bow, like the sequence is running but after HH/King's part HH is like...she's suddenly uncertian.
Sif notices like "hey wait what-" and the music deteriorates then LOOP
- First bow is played completely straight until that point (like something's off about the music though)
- Second time (Family run) feels legit but deteriorates quicker, the rest of the crew stop bowing like "....hey Sif you good?"
- Act 4 breakdown is from Sif trying desperately to talk to HH while everyone's bowing and she's just going through the motions again JUST STAY STILL AND LISTEN TO ME. They're isolated in a spotlight at the "forgive us" speech
the bowing sequence is the equivelent of HH's whole speech or something specifically for the play

just imagining that following standard musical conventions, siffrin would get an "i want" song. and itd be funny (and sad) as fuck if siffrin gets six reprises of said song, one for each act. so it starts out as a pretty typical "i want" song, but each reprise gets more desperate and manic.
and itd be kinda cool if like. even the titles get sort of meta
For example if siffrins song is called like... idk, Starchild, or something, we'd have
Act 1 - Starchild
Act 2 -Starchild (Reprise)
Act 3 -Starchild (Reprise... Again)

just playing with the whole conventions of a musical reprise, since reprises are used to signify change and growth but usually any song with a reprise only gets one so itd be a fun twist to give Sif just like. A bunch of them that plots where their head is at when each act starts. obviously they wouldn't all be full songs (most actual reprises are like a minute anyways) but i think it would just be kind of cool
(and. hey. fun idea. maybe when the Act 6 Loop reveal happens. Loop does ANOTHER reprise, and you get the whiplash of this motif / song youve associated with Sif the whole musical being sung by Loop instead)
(two reprises in one act would be a lot though so maybe itd be like. just a couple seconds of Loop singing the motif and then going back to their own song for that moment)

in my head im also imagining the reprises are kind of like grace chastity's motif from npmd. its this little piano thing that plays everytime she's trying to make a plan and throughout the story her motif gets faster and more unhinged and messy. so like by the end siffrins motif is way faster than normal and is hitting a bunch of dissonant notes so even though the core motif doesnt change, the chords and everything else is signalling "wuh oh! crisis!"

All the other characters go full Steven Universe style “follow the motif but they have different instruments and tempos”
Like, Sif gets his own "I Want" motif but everyone else's follows the same theme
They get their own stuff for Friendquests following the same instruments/playstyle
And if the Change God thing happens it's CG's goofy theme but rapidly switching between the instrument sets and play styles(tempo doesn't change)
which makes the Act 5 failed friendquests more interesting because Sif's piano synth is trying to do the other one's motif and playstyle with his instrumentation and it doesn't work as well
especially with Odile's cause the last time she started talking but this time she keeps stopping despite Sif trying to get it going
- First time: Sif and Odile get to the field part and she's the one who starts thing with her friendquest song with her instruments
- Second time: Odile stays silent and like...come on Odile start your song, this is your cue. I (Sif) can lead it in look [piano version of the starting notes starts playing]
- Still nothing? Alright let's try this again. this is your cue Odile. [shakier like he's annoyed]
- ODILE. NO. THIS IS HOW YOU DO IT [agressively smashing keys slowly and carefully like "ARE YOU DUMB YOU PLAY IT LIKE THIS" ]
- KEYMASHING THE THEME LIKE SOMEONE PUNCHING THE KEYS AND HITTING THE RIGHT NOTES BUT THE FIST MAKES YOU HIT OTHER NOTES
then it's just straight up punching the keys "YOU'RE SO BLINDING ANNOYING ODILE"
note that she doesn't sing at all in the A5 version, she's speaking, I imagine her as not much of a singer to begin with in her songs
This was definitely established earlier where like, as things get worse the characters stop singing quicker
- Mira gets through her "and I have to change by dating someone..." speech but it's kinda heasitant, melody of that is the most obvious but it's weaker otherwise. Trails off. Speaks after that. (Sif's motif/monologue stumbles but stays consistent otherwise)
- Same with Bonnie and their friend theme and their singing, and it stops after they catch Sif tripping on purpose (Sif's motif/monologue falters a bit more but stays together)
- Odile, as previously stated, doesn't sing at all {Sif motif starting to deteriorate]
- Isa sings for one line and is like "yeah okay something's up I don't believe you for a second" [Sif's motif gets faster to where it's incomprehensible]

It picks up again when he talks with Loop but it sounds just as manic as he is by that point, keys frequently missed like the player's hands are shaking uncontrollably. Loop tries to reign things in but oh no it's key punching time again.

Had an idea that as well as being mainly piano, Siffrin’s music is jazzy
I think jazz fits their vibe well but also a lot of jazz plays with less traditional harmony. I think it’d be cool if Siffrin’s music played with the dissonance inherent in jazz.
Like, in a tense moment their music is filled with dissonance and unresolved chords, kind of just chromatic key smashing, but when the party notices and Siffrin tries to hide their emotions, the music does a jazzy lead in back to something semi-normal, even if you can still hear a little of that discordance.
They’re playing it off, and the music is trying to hide that wrongness in the jazzy chord voicing and melodies but you can still hear it

Just a random suggestion to have Mal du Pays be more ingrained in the story. Like its part if the courus and is always the last to leave while getting a look at Siffrin before exiting. And each time it becomes more apparent and closer. Cause Siffrin always had that sadness in him, he just denied its existence.

It is true^^ it dated back around 1600 somewhere, thw backstage crew in shows typically communicated by whistling, so if an actor whistled it would ruin the show because it would cause issues backstage with the rest of the crew
Its turned into a superstition now just like break a leg, it's a good way of finding out that things are about to go bad quick

We do HAVE songs, and lyrics, but it's all a tad bit.... disjointed.
There's no real finished songs, and while I painstakingly outlined a WHOLE lot of CONCEPTS for the music, nothing really feels..... official.
So it's always kinda in a 'ISAT THE MUSICAL IS REAL!!! If you cound 40 half baked different aspects on a messy google slides page real' state.
I ended up drifting into VCL (hit totally real ISAT au with one (1) chapter out in the public)'s discord, and haven't really stepped back into this project since. Kinda got a bit burnt out, yknow?
But I still REALLY love ISAT the Musical, and as always, you can ping me if there's anything you need help with.
The messy slides are in the pinned, and are PRETTY up to date. Maybe 30 or so messages behind.
