Cities are confusing, forgettable, and nonsensical. The capital makes me think that the total human population in the galaxy is only a couple million with how small it is.

None of the people are interesting and the world itself feels very fake and artificial; everyone acts like a cartoon character or some cringe MCU universe character.

Game railroads the fuck out of you. Can't kill the boss of the pirates, can't tell the dude at the beginning to fuck off and go back to mine work, etc.

Game copies from other works. Elite Dangerous, Borderlands & NMS, I even see some Deus Ex HR with places like Neon, etc. Whether it's style, game mechanics, or designs. Everything "original" feels like Fallout 4 all over again.

Morrowind was fucking great. it was genuinely a well written and compelling story with really good worldbuilding and some lore explainations for the main character that were immersive and cool, but allowed for genuine player expression and roleplay if you wanted to. the entire concept of the main character, the Nerevarine, being the mortal reincarnation of one of the more powerful gods, is peak.

my games i find myself eventually always returning to time and again even after i was bored of em before are games like Quake, Titanfall, Metal Gear Solid 5, a wide spread of roguelike and roguelite games, minecraft, there's tons of games that are appealing and have tons of replay value for years.

hell, the Monster Hunter series of games is one i hold incredibly close to my heart with in the ballpark of 10k hours invested across the series, and there's times where i drop the series for a while 'cause its just not hitting, but i'll be back. i always come back.

It isn't possible to build that game
If you try to take the time to do it right, the technology will pass by* you and make your technology graphics irrelevant (graphics matter to games journalists, twitter retards, and shareholders)
Get a MASSIVE studio to do it in some reasonable amount of time (two console generations, at most), and the final product will be an uncoordinated mess (due to the number of people who are working, coming, and leaving)

That's how I understand the recurring problem, at least

Fallout 3 has ok writing but horrible gunplay with an over reliance on VATS and a really bad pc port with frequent crashes.
Fallout 4 has mediocre writing and is lacking in content in many aspects, specifically guns. There’s not a lot, and I know there’s plenty of gun customization, but it leaves little to choice. How many pipe guns did you see in your playthrough? It’s gunplay is better but it’s story isn’t. I’m not going to mention 76 for obvious reasons.
I don’t count new Vegas as a Bethesda game.
Morrow wind and oblivion had really bad voice acting and the combat wasn’t good. It was very much just stand in place and hit.

I'm just gonna be honest. I fundamentally disagree with the idea of games needed to move with the times. You don't fucking need to move forward with shiny new graphics, DNF certainly didn't fucking NEED to do any of that, and it's what killed any quality from the game.

I love (I also hate) Nintendo for this reason. Those guys make games that look like cardboard, on systems that run like cardboard, but at least the gameplay and such is GOOD because they don't give a fuck about that graphics portion so much as the game itself.

Consoles were a mistake. Graphics were a mistake. Games like Ultrakill, DUSK, etc all prove that you don't need (and in fact, SHOULDN'T) to have good graphics to make a game. A mega-massive game isn't possible, but imagine if Cyberpunk really DID let you travel into every building, go into every apartment, and somehow gave purpose to every single room... The exchange being the game looks like cardboard, runs on cardboard, etc.

The OLD DNF leaked, and what it revealed was that DNF was running on the same engine as the original games, same story, same beats, and everything. Imagine if they'd just kept to that fucking engine.
