Three, an assigned random value each day.

When two hostile factions venture into negative five-thousand relation value, they declare a truce. After that, the assigned relation value goes up between zero and negative nine-hundred.

If two neutral factions venture into negative one-thousand relation value, they declare war.

It's about personal taste. Bump maps can be fine if they're used sparsely, but (in my opinion) GSC implemented bump mapping in the laziest, and worst way possible.
Simple cube mapping on the object material, and crank the bump map intensity to 100. It makes many objects look like they have warts.

i do use the faction patch thingy to identify them, i wasn't talking about that. For example say i'm a loner, i'm wandering, i see a mercenary, i open my pda to see if i'm friendly with that faction or not. When i play as one faction for too long, i memorize who i'm buddies with and who i'm not. But when changing factions, i kind of forget

in my freedom playthrough i almost knocked a few bandits and a few mercenaries accidentally

because they were shooting at my direction but apparently not directly at me, there was a dooty guy behind the cover i was hiding
