Eh, they're fixing it. I've waited for like 12 years, I can wait a couple more. (plus I never paid for the trilogy when I played it originally because back then piracy WAS the way to get games, so I don't mind having paid for Stalker 2, but that's just me)

guess i am one of the few people that was actually surprised how much i liked it on release, sure it is a buggy mess with a lot missing, but it felt like stalker to me and that is all i hoped for. mods and patches are improving it exponentially
No no I agree, the game is fundamentally Stalker. Just, it's a bit too long of a game and drags for a bit too much. Up until SIRCAA is excellent, later it shows a bit how little there is to do except the main story, which is fine if you didn't have the zone replicated 1:1, which is HUGE, and you have to walk most of it with not much happening in between.
... okay apparently stalker 2 just works now after this update (was having issues where the game straight refused to launch, at all before this patch.)
also when the focus of development drastically shifts toward making a graphically impressive game, the quality faulters in much of the other departments. 💀
guess I am even a bit weirder then cause i like the emptiness of it, kind of feel like it should a bit barren. but then i always turned down the spawn rates in anomaly and EFP because i disliked how populated the zone got, reentering army warehouses after having just cleared it for constant gunfire and explosions again

That's fine, I was talking more about the lack of meaningful secondary content. CoP reached a decent balance between task/quest density and actual area you travel, and I know it's kind of asking too much for Stalker 2 to do the same, but at least give me more than 4 quests to do with Freedom and Duty IN TOTAL.

This fixed it, I manually deleted my mod folder.
For some wierd reason, Vortex didn't delete my mods even tho I've uninstalled them in the app.
I didn't bother looking at the mods folder at first and trusted Vortex.
Not sure how the mods persisted tho even after I've uninstalled/redownloaded the game.

From my point of view, this game has certain priorities and it feels like they're focusing on the least immediately important things.
Why fix mutant behavior and "passive existence" if fighting them is still dull?

AI is like a cake, there are some core ingredients and steps that need to be done right, otherwise you risk ruining the whole thing and making it inedible (or bad).
A-life is nothing but a something akin to a mold, it helps give the cake its charm and long-term impact, but ultimately, the AI in this game is completely broken and the enemies are so annoying to fight against it feels like they forgot to put in the baking powder and think that perfecting the mold will make the cake edible again.
Something so simple such as adding loot to mutants and making them not be bullet sponges
but no, make them have eating animation, so next time I have to waste 1 trillion bullets I can at least feel immersed for 2 seconds before doing so

A lot of game devs nowadays can't even play their own game
Can't possibly comprehend what makes a game good and always go for shortcuts (cuz bringing ez profits to shareholders is number 1 priority)
And the whole "endumbment" of game systems for the sake of selling slop to slop enjoyers (console players) is that they cripple the base game and gimp its base capabilities, so even mods have difficulty fixing it
Something so simple such as having 4 keybinds for consumables is something they didn't even think about bcz console doesn't have that many keys, so they went for 2 keybinds and good luck quick-using something that requires you to hold a button (you can't have extra keybinds, tough luck, get bent)
Dying Light (both games) having a shit-ton of consumables and ultimately having none of them being used because 3 of the are necessary and they decided to only add 4 quick use slots so you only choose 1 consumable out of the 20 something they have 
Such simple designs gimped by corposhit and dumb playtesters

It still kinda baffles me how devs do this stupid Bethesda-esque approach to difficulty by just making enemies take forever to die

Doom solved this conundrum in like 1993 by simply adding different enemies and different placement into the levels depending on difficulty (in addition to more health and damage of course)
they didn't have more health 
but yeah, they do difficulty correctly. Enemy placement, damage dealt, number/composition of enemies on the map
They do in Doom 2016, of that I am sure. Might be wrong on that, but I promise you that placement and variety is vastly different in the OG doom games

I'm not sure if they have more health in 2016, but I know they don't in the originals
iirc in Nightmare they move fast (and shoot faster projectiles) and respawn a few seconds after death
for sure nightmare had respawning and faster enemies, because I u sed to play fast ultra-violence back when I still had the patience of doing that shit

anyway, I also understand that it's kinda hard to balance difficulty in this kind of open world free roaming games. Maybe making resources rarer is a way to balance it? like, the survival mode of Fallout 4 is the best way to play Fallout 4, should have been baseline with normal saves.
Something similar without the Dark Souls bed/bonfire save meme would be ideal imho.
I fully agree with you on fallout 4. I slapped a mod on it to allow regular saving in survival mode and it was just perfect. Everything dies fast including you, so you need to be careful
problem with balancing resource scarcity is that most players grab everything that isn't bolted down, so it simply becomes a matter of how long it'll take for resource management to stop being an issue.
And this is something that I hate on stuff like GAMMA, making artificial difficulty to keep you in the 'hobo phase' for way too long
then again, I'm not a game dev so if I'm not being paid to think about this stuff, I usually don't
I could imagine some ways to make a game challenging without making it boring but it would really depend on what the game actually is. Then it's a matter of working to find the most elegant and simple solution to make it hard but not stupid

Ironically, the survival mode from Fallout 4 takes inspiration from the New Vegas hardcore mode, which was heavily inspired by Call of Pripyat iirc. So we would go full circle

i did noticed that npcs looked very alike
fo:4 definitely got the combat right for the hardcore difficulty, all for making enemies much more deadly, but still keeping you as deadly as them. stalker 2 mod called "hardcore realistic zone overhaul" did a really good job of the mutants, example making blood suckers faster and more deadly, but a couple of well placed shotgun shots and they were dead which was hard with their increased movement speed (though they were a bit comically fast sometimes)

Honestly I'm extremely disappointed by now.
GSC seems to be doing everything in their power to go against bot players and modders, even slipping up on important shit like A-Life actually being what its supposed to be.
If you have simple mod loader, remove it and update to the latest version.
GSC explicitly went out of their way to break bootstrap mod loading, but a workaround was found.
You will have to re-add all mods you use with SML
I dont play with any mods. I play vanilla.

well story wise ||lesser zone basically gets wiped out so the quests aint there, icarus the same, either all the troops pull out or become zombies so no quests, the bread is rostok not sure beyond the treaty being void so i guess freedom doesnt care, the 3 guys duty and freedom are at war again so guess they can't meet up, duga all the military died so no military to do that quest with, chemical plant if you're with strider/spark ward shoot at you on site so can't take their quest =D||

they would get a task, and try and take over small outposts, mostly
some cool little things like scientists artifact hunting
anyone who thinks it's anything more than "sit at camp for 5 minutes, walk out, die to anomaly/mutants" is delusional
but really wasnt much more than that. EXACTLY bro I dunno where these people think the AI had like Daily routines where they left their base to go find food, hunt, change their sheets, trade with npcs all this insane shit i see on the reddit
with some of the latest mods the AI is a little better in the old games but not much more. Mods like alpha do have some added features but they are off for a reason they just cause bugs
i do remember back in the day being like omg they are actually flanking me and going silent to try and sneak etc. and it's still better than a lot of games but that isn't saying much at all, but yeah... they still reload out of cover and all sorts of dumb stuff though
the first encounter with the two bandits at the very start of the game was impressive imo
one chucked grenades at my cover while the other flanked and rushed me with a boomstick
I have the feeling the GSC is somewhat torn.
I want to be an asshole, but I have the feeling that they are logistically at odds.

I was playing Radiophobia and they did exactly that. Went around to point of interest, pretended to do stuff, then went back to Rostock and left to camp somewhere else, roaming. It helps immersion, but gameplay wise it does nothing of value. I've had a squad leave rostok, camp in garbage and stay there for the rest of the game, only to move into the hangar when an emission happens or to kill the occasional mutant.
To be fair, GSC clamoring fro a life doesn't really help
I hope that's the case. With the rate of patches going 1 per month, 2.0 will be around the 1 year mark
CP2077 released 2.0 after almost 3 years, so that would be fine 
But to be fair, game was fixed by the time the anime came out. 2.0 was just when the game could finally be called complete.

the combat AI is what made old stlaker so good
honestly rarely ever saw them "hunting artifacts" in gamma or custom, but did enjoy catching them walking from point to point
its was pretty basic but added a lot of fun when the dynamic combat AI that put up an awesome fight went to you
ah yes getting sniped by a renegade with a toz from 300m was peak combat AI
Don't forget the grenade spam with rando bandits having throw accuracy like Stephen Curry shooting 3-pointers

nah but let's be real it was fun to fight, sometimes after killing a guys squad the last weakest guy would run and go hide and while your looting come up and try and kill you
cool little things like that, or hed go join anohter squad and hate you for life the AI all had their own personal opinion of you plus their faction opinion
Yes I was experiencing crashes with Ultra+, as well as with the FG3 mod file
so a guy in a freindly faction could hate you a ton and actually shoot you on site even if he's in a freindly squad
I'd love to see those types of things added to stalker 2
along with the score board to see whos the most badass stalker on the map
all nice little touches that made the game world feel alive

Yes I had to remove all of my mods including Ultra+ and Simple ModLoader (the latter of which has been updated for 1.4)
Depending on how heavily modded your existing save was it might not be possible to get it to load without crashing :\

STALKER 2 is a huge upgrade animation-wise

Even though I could go with hiding the viewmodels
I'm pretty sure at least half of my time spent in game was in the energy drink animation

Skeefa's blood was completely replaced with nonstop and medkit juice by the end of the game 

I was kinda hoping to see the more gun nutty animations like the guy not discarding mags when they're not empty
but it's no deal breaker for me
If the trilogy is anything to go by, animators will show up just fine for the SDK drop

left handed AKs never bothered me, but at least the mags never ejected themselves for the sake of John Wicking it and making the game more arcadey#

Yeah Unreal Engine 5 does this funny thing where it just makes the game run like ass, regardless if you got a good gaming computer.

I have a 5600x + 6800xt + 32g ram and it still ran like ass at 1080p

Most used Gamedev tool with low barrier of entry, so you can hire quickly and cheap. Pretty much reason no1
specially if youre a new studio like modern GSC and need to hire talent from scratch
It's the false idea that if everyone uses the same engine then they can fire and and hire devs easier, and it's cheaper then making your own engine. But obviously UE5 can't work for every game type and is just going to make every game look the same.

The graphics pipeline in UE5 are the main benefit nowadays. Really easy to make photoreal graphics in engine, especially with Lumen and Nanite.
Unreal is also built around FPS games at its core. You can also modify the core engine code directly and make your own custom version of the engine which they might've wanted to do or not.
Unity would've been my pick for Stalker. Much easier to work with imo.

tried this on my laptop (also with 4 GB) and it does kinda work 50% of the time, but the other 50% is a crapshoot due to VRAM overfill.

It depends on the mod you are planning to delete. Mods which add new items will 100% corrupt your save after deletion
Other minor mods propably would be okay, backup you mod folder, delete what you want and see

I'm modding S2 since release and tried few modpacks so I know what you are talking about 👍🏻 Modding in S2 is quite easy beacuse of using PAK's
Don't forget to merge mods if they share the same files
Yeah, I ended up with around 88 files once finished. I just followed an in depth guide a community member had posted on the overhaul's comment section. Even running 1.4.1, everything seems to be working awesome.
And dont use old and unupdated mods since they change older configs and can interfere with the vanilla configs after updates
If you want some AiO modpack I can recommend MHM or Zivaka's modpack (posted it yesterday on this channel). Both are great and I had blast with them

Yeah, currently rocking MHM. With all the recommended mods, and the additional extras the community member suggested. I started a new game, since I never played. This is my first time playing Stalker 2. Straight into the Hardcore file.
It took me 3 hours to finish the tutorial because the human NPCs were 1 tapping me in a dark field from a quarter mile away. That was a fun experience. All the food is 600K, and I am broke. Slowly starving to death. Having a great time.
If you want new mechanics like cooking, crafting or barter and maybe A BIT easier experience i really recommend Zivakas Modpack
I appreciate the heads up. I can look into it later for sure. So far, after the tutorial the game is much easier since I can run away from conflict and pick and choose my battles. In the tutorial I didn't have that luxury. The tutorial was god awful.

The og's are sharper but I will admit that the lighting, render distances and screen space reflections are good.
Also the enhanced edition has one thing that Anomaly will never have

I was trying to fight them off but they literally manifested from atoms in front of the doors. I was so taken aback by that
well they are phantoms =D but yeah, some might spawn on top of you and need to kill them, but generally if you don't move/fight back, no others will find you, aside from the odd one

Eh, it’s slightly better.
Lotta people claim it's a bit improved, but I noticed very little. They can't make miracles with the awful UE5 systems they're using (mostly Lumen's fault)
Latency can improve a lot if you tweak enough things, but for base S2, not much
Any reccomendations mods wise? When i first played i was on a 3060 and with the Anti stutter/performance mod the latency was fine and not even noticeable but i have a 4070 super now and the latency is horrendous, Sorry for the long post, i appreciate the advice 👍
You might be having some issues then. Id try doing NVIDIA override to make sure you use the latest version of DLSS4. I dont really use any performance tweaks

Ultra+ i feel like its just the best, given that you have to run the game on high and not ultra.

I replayed the intro bit of stalker 2 with your weapon reposition mod.
Switched between few variants, but was honestly just testing performance in 1.4.1 (with ultra plus mod) 
The stuttering and input lag made me uninstall the game ngl

This was happening on a fresh install of the game
Anytime the Game updates, You change graphics settings, Update your drivers or Use something like Ultra + to change settings you need to delete all of your shader caches and let the game recompile.
Reinstalling the game doesn't delete old shaders though. As they are stored outside the game directory.
This is tied to your Nvidia folders. Someone else can point you we're exactly to find them

If i didn't love the Stalker series so much i would never touch this game again, its absolute madness that we have to piss about like this in order to even play the game somewhat reliably.

The other one is called DXcache and is a bit more complicated if you want it done right.
It's honestly an issue with any pre shader compilation, Stalker 2 is just so unoptimized that it's more noticeable.

you can just manually delete the files wihtout restarting
Sometimes it doesnt wipe out everything that way though.
Doing the method above is the only way I've figured out to wipe out everything.
You'll delete it and it's like temp files stored in the pipeline get written there after. The only way to stop it is to disable the shader cache through Nvidia control panel which does require a restart.

Definitely not fixed though. I was watching a group of stalkers walk in front of me, and as I got closer a chimera spawned and rearranged their anus.

Eh, It’s slightly better. But I’d still suggest Modular Hard Mode if you want a challenge and Shay’s A-Life for a bit more QoL.

Exactly my gameplay 😅 30 - 40fps, sometimes more. But its understable on 4K with graphics maxed out with Ultra+

It's a good place, they're fairly active there and you can even ask gsc directly and get a response, some have already asked about a fix for that issue for an example
