Really? You know the factions and slavery and stuff was kinda based off Dune.

Unlike Dune, there are 8+ races, while Dune only had 2 as far as I know. Technically more if we count the seperate factions as different species, seeing as they are born on different worlds alltogether.

Our world proved this really well. We can hate on race. But we also hate on ideals. Kinda why we have different political government structures, those are changes in ideals.

I mean hell, people dislike other cultures, the food people eat, the music people listen too. We are not that complicated.

My point being is that I dont need races to be able to make a convincing ecosystem with politics, war, and converging ideologies.

For example, I have a faction in the 5th era, that are called the Consortium of Steel, they are heavily authoritarian. They focus on the prospects in power, and not prosperity, starting wars in order to claim resources. They focused so much on the war against the Thesian Confederate, that they violated many human rights for their own people. Forced enlistment, slavery, lack of food and water, civilian casualties.

The people formed a resistance group, called the Tomcat Resistance Army, to fight against them.
THEY ARE THE SAME RACE, from the same country, same language. Yet they want each other dead.

The Thesians are blissfully unaware that this inner conflict is going on, till way later in the war, when they practically won and took the capital.

The Thesians struck a treaty with the Tomcat's, and by then, they were joined into the Thesian Confederate, as a vassal state.

No species needed my friend.
If I were to add species to the mix, it would muddy how the factions mix with each other, and cause a lot of headache for how the migration paths work. Like species A would be mixed with Species B, and so on so forth, till every species is in every faction. And I dont like that complexity XD

Well, the whole fantasy races fighting and hating each other often just make conflict easier to make. But there's plenty of things to do to make characters butt heads.

Kenshi is one of those experiences I wish either to have never have had but also to wish I'd had more of. It's revolutionary in its own way. Definitely one of those games to reward both autists and those with an over-abundance of free time more than those of us who can only spare a few hours per day. It's great but unless you truly commit you'll never see the sweetest fruits it can offer.
I was lucky enough after my father's passing to have enough free time to have carved out a decent living in Kenshi. It was both fun and rewarding but at the same time I realized how much time it would take to become more than just competent. It both intruged and alienated me. Perhaps one day I shall return but not before I have a few hundred hours to spare.
