Since first game release stalker has been very dear to my heart. Ans its probably due fact that i live in post soviet country. Every building in game is from my childhood. Cars, houses, buildings.

Yes this is europe 2023 just one of small villages left over from different era. Was passing trought place named "Uzvara" - Victory and wanted to stop by and take some pics. A mutant idea for a STALKER roleplay I am doing with a friend. I don’t have a name for it yet so I’m calling it “Tall Man” but I do have thought about their background and abilities.

Their background behind them is that they’re former Stalkers that got abducted by Monolith troops and were thrown into where the source of the Noosphere is within the CNPP or the C-Consiousness labs, hoping for a quicker brainwashing and recruitment. Eventually the results were quite the opposite, instead the Noosphere would turn those souls into a new type of humanoid mutant. That being the Tall Men. Despite the unexpected results, Monolithian troops decided to keep abducting Stalkers, turning them into Tall Men or use the regular brainwashing method of turning them into Monolithian troops. What stops the Tall Mens’ mass production is that process isn’t always successful. As some instead just die. Thus they are somewhat rare much like the Chimera and Pseudogiant.

Tall Mens’ overall appearance resembles a heavily mutated corpse. The effects of the Noosphere have twisted their former bodies, growing whole new limbs, distorting their anatomy and new extruding bones. As well as their namesake implies: increased height than that of a regular human. Their new bone structure has also blessed them with high resistance to most low to mid caliber and melee weapons. Much like Zombies, they are slow walking fellows but their quick claw attacks and speed ram attack prove highly dangerous.

They share no memory of their past lives and hunt Stalkers and Mutants alike for sport. That includes others of their own kin. As well seem to be solitary creatures and don’t appear to have the need for food or drink or reproduction. The sad thing is that they don’t ever seem to have a consciousness or able to comprehend pain (though if they’re hit with a more powerful weapon they’ll put their arm up on front of their faces for protection). As well if they set their eyes on a target- they’ll chase that prey down even if it escapes. They often just stand still or are on the prowl for their next victim.

Additionally their look was inspired by the Monster House as well Shin Godzilla

So, been working on a fun little (I say little but the process has taken maybe 12-16 hours of training just to get this far) project of trying create Stalker girls in AI with that lovely Ghibli-style art that we all know and love. The model uses pictures of various BDU's, body armor, gloves, pants, guns and my own vector art which took me hours and hours to make and convert for training usage.

So far, the results are really mixed with my current training, this whole custom checkpoint is like a pre-alpha version, so it's not ready for anything production-wise yet, as I have so many different things to train to get this idea to work. I'm thinking of swapping over my entire workflow to something more LORA based instead of a checkpoint system.

The current model has no idea what to do with various gun parts, where the receiver should go, the barrel, the scopes are often fused and go nowhere, the stocks just float there without any kind of shoulder assistance, magazines round themselves and aren't weighted properly, etc.
.
But overall, I'm really happy with how this initial concept has started over the weekend, and these three are done without any inpainting or operator assistance.

I also have the model working at FP16, being created on a 980Ti with 6GB of VRAM and can render out something like 1280x720 visuals with like a 90% reliability.

I still need to do various individual training on gas masks, BDU pants, military gloves, M4 Carbines, AK styled weapons, weapon sights, magazines, magazine pouches, uniform patches, military headwear (goggles, helmets, caps, etc), radiation suits, stalker symbols for patches and logos... And so much more because apparently I'm the only one that thinks that stuff like this is fun. (There's 1 or 2 incomplete models of some guns, but they work terribly with other models and are extremely incomplete)

IMO Ghibli style doesn't quite work with camoflaged uniforms of all things
it's a better fit for WW1-esque single color uniforms with large pouches, not modern LBE and plate carriers
and similar for the guns, at most I can see a Vietnam era FAL or M16, not a modern M4 variant
but personal opinions aside, that's good results for experimentation

I think I can get it to work when I get more towards the end and change how its interpreted. Right now, the guy who made the plate carrier lora used like 3 images and the weights remove the ghibli effect, so I think with a bit of work I can make these work with some more tweaking. But the guns are the things that are bothering me the most as there's literally almost nothing for models. I agree with the sentiment though.

So I know it's not perfect buuuuut here's what it looks like with v0.1 of a model trained and captioned in 6 hours... Unfortunately I'm going to have to redo everything from scratch because the model has several issues currently probably because I captioned stuff incorrectly and need a wider dataset.

  1. The style is completely wrong
  2. The gun weights are off and hard to optimize
  3. They are missing their bottom halves and standing just leads to horrifying results.
  4. Shading is incorrect
  5. I completely screwed up the other model and can't get any other styles out of it other than (generic anime girl #5)

Model kinda works how I want it to in realistic models though, and was a really good test on how I can train finger positions on guns and firing positions with trained data.

I think I can get a working model that can be used for multiple styles whether animated or realistic that uses the M4 with another go or so. Wanted to see if I could make another couple for various Stalker creatures, patches, other guns like the AKM, M92 Beretta, TOZ, etc, etc. Oh and places/landmarks in Stalker as well for backgrounds and such.

Why it looks wrong is because of the altitude of the viewing point. Right now the top of the fence on the left is at eye-level while the buildings on the right are much smaller. Which makes sense since fences are tall, however the eye level being so high makes it so your character is 2 stories tall. When you look at real 3D images of realistic scale (Stalker screenshot in this case lol) you'll see the horizon is much lower than the top of similar fences, and also lower than doors and other objects of human scale

However your horizon is much higher, giving as totally different sense of scale to everything. And because it's shown like you're the player with the gun in your hand, it makes it so like you're 2 stories tall
