And fusion arts can be comboed in and out of

So I've done uppercut->Fusion mighty strike->his break art->talent art, which recharges everything so it's party time all the time

Ngl I think Matthew might unironically be the most fun xenoblade character to play in the 2/3 style of gameplay

The fact I unironically don't have to wait for fusion art charge is a godsend

Tho my power charge fusion art also giving fast recharge when fused with mighty strike is pretty sick

Also if you unlocked his skill that let’s you have a chance to not use the art charge when you cancel into it, if your rng is good you can just beat the shit outta things

Rex is starting to be able to semi consistently combo spinning edge into itself now, which is cool

It was funny because Rex and glimmer got to wipe the penultimate boss off the face of the planet in one chain attack in my play through

The funniest part was I literally couldn't break/topple/launch the fucker until the end of the chain attack

But since I had built up the damage multiplier so much, and managed to get the launch right before the unity finisher, rex obliterated the dumbass

So all in all Xenoblade 3 is a game of all time huh

Xbc3 is honesty made 10x better by having FR as a thing

I still stand by my opinion of XBC1 being the best solo game, but if we include side story add ons I'd argue 3 overtakes it

(Prolly because FR perfected the combat formula imo)

Having all the characters have access to either a burst or smash, and simplifying the combo down to break->topple->launch->smash/burst is awesome

Only thing I'd argue that could make it better is adding daze back in as a topple extender like how it basically was in 1.

Hopefully xbc4 adds that

If I had to rebalance it I'd say make daze a side debuff that makes attackers/healers get aggro less, that has the extra effect of a guaranteed proc once broken, and it extends breaks/topples/launches

I agree with this wholeheartedly. The main story is very impactful but it this adds so much to it.

Also straight up I think this game has the best battle mechanics, or at least the most well explained by the game itself. Base game making it so you control 6 characters all at once over 1 at a time in a group of 3 makes combat so much more dynamic, with the Ouroborus system making it so that you can do some cool stuff as well depending on your composition having a lot of room for unique builds/expimentation

Also my one complaint is that this game is stuck on last gen hardware. Can you imagine this game in like Unreal Engine 4

Like yeah technically base 3 has more customizablility, but I feel like that idea makes the combat feel like how it did in 2, where it's alot more prep work and alot less mid battle work

FR trims out alotta the prep, which is cool

BTW, semi unrelated, did you ever try pairing Matthew and Shulk together for the unity thing

Theirs kicks ass because you start battles at 70% unity gauge, and once you upgrade its 100%, which is super nice for shulk cause that's how he gets awakening

I did them, rex and Glimmer together (they give teamwide crit rate up when paired) and then nikol/A (cause they were the ones left lol)

XC1-best overall narrative, roughest with the gameplay
XC2-Roughest of all games, has fantastic final act, a lot of stuff needs to be overlooked tho
XC3-Best of both in a sense, and very good pacing, however some aspects won’t be as rewarding to find out if you haven’t played the other games, especially the dlc

Also one last footnote, despite the art style change of the Wii to DE version of XC1, the series has basically always been very anime styled from the beginning, so there’s no really avoiding that

Here’s a long as rant I had about why I think without changing the core of the series mechanics or designs, Xenoblade could birth the best MMO game ever made

I'm like 90% sure the battle system in 1 was based off MMOs like Wow

So it makes sense why it'd be a good fit

Another thing that could be interesting is having the PCs each have a different art operating system

Like you could either choose from a XBC1 style art palette for more total arts (maybe up it from 8 to 10 + talent art), but have actual cooldowns on them and have to scroll through what you want, which takes longer.

a XBC2 style which lets you have 3 blades which overall gives you 3 possible subclasses you can bring all at once thereoretically, but each individually is way less in depth moveset wise (and your build has to balance all three), but your arts are all attack cooldowns based, so you can theoretically throw those 3 arts out more often.

And finally the XBC3 style where you get a mix of both with 3 timed cooldowns arts and 3 attack cooldowns arts, with the ability to fuse arts together to use both at the same time for a stronger effect.

The problem there is balancing the three to make each viable in its own way

If I had to rank art effectiveness I'd say have the arts one XBC1 movesets be the strongest, then XBC3 timed arts, then XBC2 arts, then XBC3 attack cooldowns arts be the weakest overall effect wise

The idea being the slower arts are stronger whilst the arts you can throw out more often are weaker, and the XBC3 arts are both slightly watered down on account of having access to both styles

Then have fusion arts be overall the strongest, because you're literally burning 2 arts to use em

Honestly I’m super down with the idea. The only issue is that since Nintendo been stuck on the switch the past 7 years they are limited in scope, so hopefully the switch 2 allows them to get more ambitious with titles

all I hope is that they don't do it like Future Redeemed

playing with XB1 cooldowns in XB3 really showed how much the combat system has evolved since then

but it also meant that the characters with them fell behind in effectiveness

especially since their arts weren't powerful enough to compensate for the downtime

Honestly my big hope is a Xenoblade warriors game

Arcanist has access to dark and light magic that have a slight recovery effect as well as unique buff and debuffs, Conjurer can imbue weapons with elements, as well as having the best but most costly support skill in the game and Armsmaster lets a character have access to incredibly powerful weapon skills and also access to all weapon types, but you need to find legendary weapons via side quests to use them

Thx! Yeah, Xenosaga chapter 3 was a fucking investment. I wanted CIB, and since I had a steady income at the time, I got a copy for 300 bucks

They’re fucking insanely hard to get your hands on for a fair price

But to be fair, they didn’t sell well in the US, and Xenosaga 3 is one of few ps2 games with 2 discs. Meaning it’s got value on top of its poor sales making it uncommon

Unironically they may call it that if they remake it. But also, if they do, adding reference to Klaus in passing or having him appear as a side character would be interesting. Kinda like they did with the Ontos core Crystal in Xenoblade DE

Just, make the connection more direct than it already is

My one concern is that they might change the Xenosaga combat system, which from what I played is really fun and is really good.
