The main differences are that SMT focuses more on the story that the characters, and it has the 'Press Turn' system instead of Persona's 'One More' system, so their turn-based combat functions a little differently.

Also the tone of the games is wildly different. Persona always has a sense of camaraderie and a general warmness to the cast despite any plot stuff. Smt is about the apocalypse and making morally grey choices, and there’s long stretches of gameplay where you don’t interact with anyone besides literal demons for hours. Very lonely and atmospheric

Intro is slow, and some of the stuff is a little uncannily persona, but I’m really liking it so far

Still kinda in that Persona 5 zone of the game, I did call the SPOILER: ||Death of Gaius|| but it was done well. Im mostly waiting for the chance to really start seeing the characters come into their own, which I imagine will happen after beating the first deadline section. Tho, Louis is an awesome villian, he reminds me a fuck ton of griffith.

I can realllllly see the gameplay getting fucking awesome. The team building is far more key than in persona. Much more of a party build game than a persona build game.

And I was dumb and balanced out my Archetype leveling with some of my characters so I’m way too weak for the boss right now. I feel like I’m doing something wrong with how much I’m struggling. But I guess I can always try and grind for a bit to hit level 18 or so before the boss. And ofc, actually setup like, a full archetype build and get it leveled

I don’t wanna switch to normal mode but good god everything hits like a meteorite to the face, and I don’t have a good enough build to one cycle enemies and avoid wasting all my MP and such. I’m fighting for my life.

Natural consequence of using press turn as a basis instead of personas 1 more system. Not that it can’t be challenging, but the system makes you feast or famine way more often while also punishing mistakes harder

It’s a great system. Persona’s is way more of a snowballing pressure thing. But here you’re more focused on thinking through each turn you get and using every single token fully

Especially, because these synthesis moves make me think through everything so I can end every turn able to survive the next while also managing to do enough damage to actually progress

Early Metaphor question ||could I beat the Zombie Dungeon in 1 day||

Well once you get ||Hulkenburg|| yeah you can. It’s pretty tough but it’s doable

The real thing is that if you do that ||side quest for the igniter lady, you’ll be able to clear the dungeon in one go due to having cleared the side content which will power you up a bit||

High agility just isn’t a particularly great stat in this game when so many fights are decided on buffs and setups to big damage.

Seeing him do 100 damage on a medium dark damage attack after blasting someone with a 500 damage all target move, is just sad

Heismay can be really strong since he ALWAYS moves first imo. I think most people consider thief one of the most broken abilities due to how much insanely strong items you can get from it, and if it fails, just restart instantly since hes first anyways. Also hes the best debuffer/buffer in the entire game since he always goes first which is nice. He can also just dodge so much and that skips their entire turn regardless of how many crystals they have

hulkenberg saved my ass so many times tho, shes prob the reason i enjoyed combat so much in this game since i think manipulating the AI felt really cool

all I know about XBC2 is that it was made by a different team (I think?) and it was derided by some friends of mine as a frantic cash grab and big downgrade from the first game

but I also used to have beef with Xeno in general

basically I got SUPER into xenogears and then I hit disc 2

and then I heard xenosaga was gonna be a 12 game series and got super stoked, and

so when they said Xenoblade was made by the same people I was like

But 2 is like the weakest imo

1 is literally one of the best premises and plots in jrpgs

So what happened was I was trying to download roms for dolphin, and by some freak miracle educated wish type mishap, I accidentally downloaded Xenoblade 1 instead of the original game I wanted which was Super Mario Galaxy lol. But so confused on the title screen I just saw the sword and I was like “What the hell is this?” And then the intro started and I realized I Mario galaxy was not it anymore because I got HOOKED

And I still haven’t played Mario galaxy

||many of the loudest people who played p3 either did so when it released or were influenced by someone who did. Ken's ps2 English voice was not well liked, his AI (in original all party members were AI controlled only) was extremely bad and made awful choices, he's competing for party slots with characters others way prefer, he doesn't have a quest line where you learn a ton about him like with any of the romance able party members, and even though this isn't really what happened, Shinji was INSANELY loved and Ken got blamed for his death by many.||

I'm not agreeing with those spoilered points just explaining why people were like that.

Also like. ||Teenagers playing on a PS2 want to play the cool upperclassmen that are bigger and cooler than them, not this little kid who's younger and therefore lamer than me. Empathy, theming, these things didn't matter - he's a kid so ew go away. There was a whole lot of that mentality. For the sane reasons in reverse everyone loved bad boy Shinji who skips class and kicks ass.||

Combo with a constant stream of debilitates and made the protag focus on damaging

I average 1500-3000 dmg a turn when I don’t have to heal. But unfortunately he puts up physical immunity fairly often.

||Yeah, that's honestly one of the aspects of this game's story that really kept me. Despite the fact that fantasy is known for it's wide variety of fantastical races, it rarely touches on subjects of racism and systemic oppression even though it's one of the best genres to explore exactly that. To have to story not only cover such topics, but have the entirety of it's narrative and worldbuilding built on said issues is really fucking cool and I love it!||

These make me think of a game where the main threat are urban legends/occult happenings that occur as a result of the things the main characters are dealing with in their lives. A similar situation to P4 but with a more urban horror twist.
