That's 3 in the key. Don't know if it'll help but you could look up the Nba Rule to understand it better. It's for standing in paint for 3 seconds (usually seems like 4 or 5 in the game). On offense just move out of the paint. Better to stand at low or high post if you need to be near the rim. On defense use LT/L2 to touch your matchup. Contact with you matchup near the paint should reset the count.
