KD is a great ball handler but someone's gotta facilitate and run the offense. That said, everywhere KD has played, he's had a star guard alongside him (Russ, Steph, Kyrie/Harden, Booker). It'll be interesting to see how they handle this now

This is the talk of someone who is not watching the game

Someone recently, on a post about foul baiters that specifically pointed out Embiid, Brunson, and SGA, asked why Jimmy Butler, who notably averages a lot of free throws over his career and gets a good % of his points from the line, is not considered a foul baiter. The answer is simply in how it happens. Brunson, Embiid, SGA, they all overexeggerate the contact, and the contact is often initiated by them. Someone like Butler (and this is coming from a Celtics fan who had to deal with him for years), gets his fouls due to genuine foul calls because he's smart in the post and such. Giannis is another example of a guy who just genuinely gets fouled a lot.

He gets foul calls because he is elite at getting two feet in the paint and initiating contact, which is what nearly every all time great scoring guard does

Ok I think foul bating does make the game overall look bad but the refs are honestly just following the book, when James harden on the rockets was fouls bating we were annoyed at the time but know looking at it, it was really impressive and truly an amazing skill that he uses to his advantage cause the nba to alter the rules. There are plenty of players who try to exagerate contact a bit to get the calls, and don't get them

And then there are other players (Jokic and Tatum come to mind) who will get hacked on a shot, and it should be called a foul, but then the foul doesn't get called because they're strong players who don't fall over and make a face whenever someone fouls them

Don't get me wrong, SGA is a great scorer, and even without his ability to get to the line, he would be one of the best scorers in the league.

But that's what really frustrates me about it. He has the tools and abilities to score consistently and efficiently without having to bait for fouls and flop all the time like he does.

That's what frustrated me about 2018 Harden, 2021 Trae Young, 2023 Embiid, 2024 Brunson, etc.

All of those are capable, talented players, who don't need to be baiting fouls like they are in order score.

And yes, getting to the line is a skill. Being so good and talented at scoring that they have to foul you to stop you is a skill. But there's a difference between players like Giannis (who genuinely can't be stopped unless you foul him because he's that big and strong) or Butler (who uses his basketball IQ to get his defender in a position where he's forced to foul him to get the stop, and then he takes the contact and goes to the line for it), and those other players who exagerate the contact and will fall over or flail at the slightest touch. It's not about whether or not they're legally allowed to according to the rules of the game, at least to me. It's about playing ethical basketball.
