I finally discovered the Morty matchup

You have to treat him like if you are fighting his after image, never attack where he is but where you think he'll be

Predict his attack and dodge, never engage hoping your attack connects, engage him predicting exactly what's he gonna do

It's basically hard reads the game :y, while we had to get a costumed to reading our opponent to survive, we still relied on winning priority and mid ranged attacks

But with Morty you can only rely on one thing, reading him like the book he is

Also don't engage him until you baited out his snakes beam :v

im gonna consider his playrate yesterday as the basis, he played 117 games with a 94% wr considering tracker takes 1 week info for his stats, from those it says bg had 4806 games with 2908, so he would have played 819 games a week and 770 of those would have been victorys, so if we remove him from the bg stats, 3987 with 2138 bg would have a 53% wr

so yeah you can say hes inflating bg numbers, im number 2 and i think my week games barely hit a 100 :v

Anybody got any tips on BG neutral and approach options?

Just been using Jump dodge to approach or bait and then whiff punish

The approach is pretty hard pretty much they can dodge anything we try to go in with, so when the enemy gets real passive I often try to pressure their space going back and forth slowly getting closer until they get nervous or I get close enough for a jab or dash neutral air that will go beyond the edge of the arena to prevent falling on it becoming an easy target

Also you can turn tables charging with neutral special forcing them to engage

When approaching, spacing is key with BG, if you overextend on your approach you can can be easily punished. I agree with what Conehead said above ^

Banana Guard plays like Beta-Jake or ZSS if you played Smash: a lot of strong defensive pokes (sair and jab) with the ability to turn on hyper offense on a dime with nair

That's the core gameplay right now, but there are other situational things like using Tears as an anti-air in specific matchups or combos off of jab based on character and current damage.

I see a lot of people pushing BG as bottom 3 in tier lists

I suck as BG but he's still my most played character alongside Jake and Jason, who are also among the worst characters

Statistically he’s the second best character but when you start looking into it, the reason BGs win rate is so high is due to our glorious king who can’t lose. I wouldn’t say he’s bottom tier now but he definitely has clear weaknesses that good players will abuse

nair kick is great when landing, but compared to other nairs its quite mid to low, for starters its not a multi hit, like shagees, samurai jack or wonderwomans (comparing him to other bruisers), so if people dodge it they dont have to worry about the hitbox range at all unlike multi hit moves, for this same reason this hitbox nair lasts less than many other, only during 8 frames while the animation lasts around 30 (source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=umQ1llW8ALk&ab_channel=PopeWithEyeBeams), and while its a great engage tool, the lack of moveset on bg make his engage routes very limited making him easily predictable, the enemy thinks: if hes in air worry about bgs sair and nair, if hes on ground worry about side jab and side special.
summing the fact that his movement speed and dodge distance are more on the slower-medium side, it makes his approaching tools not really good on 1s, its often not very noticible when the other player engages and trys to approach you, but when you fight an arya in 1s, thats just standing on the other side of the map, you notice how bad his approach is

PS: i love the new nair, and think he can be viable in top tier but not really one of the big dogs of the tier

also yeah the difference in the multihit jab effectivnes is unlike other multihits, multihit jab forces us to stay static in a place for a long time, where as an air multi hit allows you to be in constant movement to catch the enemy, making the difference of why up air is so much better than our jab, same reason why up air is much better than up air special, as up air special is a multi hit that slow us down by a lot taking away a good chunk of our movement when used

people focused too much on his horizontal game but his vertical game is insane

a while back i made a tierlist of all his moves and put up air as number 2 (cause no one would take it seriously if i didnt put sair as number 1)

also down attack is his worst, 0 combo potential, terrible hitbox, only use is as shield breaker

up air is the only reason why have a winning matchup against iron giant, its great at juggling tanks like superman jason etc, its a multi hit move wich are op and combos into up special that even if they nerf the combo still will kill at early percentages if you catch someone on the air

Yeah I said it’s not op and can be negated. Nothing JMafia did in that clip was crazy. If u watch the grand finals, JMafia easily whopped the other guy because he knows the matchup. i dont like to intrude too much but bgs jab is probably one of the easiest to punish for missing in the entire cast

while it has 12 frams of whiff its active time is so long that they dont need us to be on whif to punish us, they can hit us from the air, behind and even just wait our jab to be done to punish us

id say while i put in high regard multi hit moves due to being able to hit characters after dodge, being stucked in a easily punishable position for jabbing is horrible, other characters can dodge or change directions with their second jab, we are stuck facing one direction making us extremely vulnerable

comparing him with sups jab is just not the same, his even cover slightly above him ours just doesnt, any character doing a smal hop can avoid it

we miss vertical cover for horizontal range, we lose the chance to change direction or dodge for multihits, i just dont think is good

thats why bgs engage with sair and nair, jab is more just a defensive move

they will add testing grounds tomorrow after maintenance so its more than likely bg will get nerfed also tomorrow
