Well, my network adapter finally showed up today. Played 2 games and in both I had the absolute worst connection issues where I just am forced to stand there while the game plays at like 3x speed watching my opponent just hit me while my inputs don’t work

No more weaken on rage moves (which is a good thing) and no more utilt confirms massively affects Shaggy since he no longer has a consistent kill confirm at 80

#

And with no more weaken, his general kill moves are a lot less effective. Sair won’t just randomly kill you at 40 with max weaken anymore (granted it never should have)

Shaggy is still decent, but he practically has no combos now that utilt is functionally useless now. Your only kill confirm is jab jab up special and you kinda just need to fish for jab or nair 99% of the time. The jab jab stomp tech chase was also nerfed and there is a noticeable delay when trying to jab after stomp, but you can dodge jab after stomp with the faster pre patch timing. Jab 2 still will randomly whiff against half of the cast letting you get punished for hitting jab 1. Weakened and last stand no longer exist, so you can’t cheese kills nearly as early, but things like full charge sair still kill at like 60 near ledge. And the best perk 2 currently is the new one that gives you a third jump if you’re hit with no jumps remaining. Overall, the most recent patch has kinda just made Shaggy boring to play and he has such little variety in how he can actually play

If you’re looking for a more fun brawler type character that actually has combos and confirms, just play Smith

Most of Smith’s combos come from jab, but he has cool tech like gun cancels and several routes he can use

Raven has a ton of setup potential with Lenore and rock and she has consistent combos even outside of those

Jason has basically only been receiving buffs and is finally at a place where he feels devastating to get hit by and he actually has a decent number of combo routes for a heavy

tech chasing is the same (with dodging), the loop is more consistent now and can loop characters we couldn't before like rick and smith.. if they di anywhere but up you can always dodge loop chase, with the knock back angle change jab jab down tilt iad sair is a lot more consistent and can kill very early, going for up tilt is useful to read dodge in, or since everyone knows nothing is true after up tilt they are either not going to dodge which you can punish them for, or they will always dodge and once you learn their dodging pattern it becomes a dodge read party

So, essentially what you’re saying is that dodge jab after stomp tech chase (which I also mentioned) and now you need reads to get any sort of real damage unlike before where Shaggy actually had combos and could continue to follow up with reads

So why play Shaggy now when other characters like Smith, Rick, Raven, Harley, PPG, etc have real combos and can also follow up with reads

PFG is slowly making characters more and more boring by removing everything good they have and not compensating

The only real redeeming reason to play Shaggy now is that his shield break punish with charged neutral attack kills absurdly early

#

Currently, he only really has burnout combos. I’m finding that his only real win condition is to deplete shields and dodge meter and then capitalize on your opponent in burnout

#

But outside of rage moves dealing a decent bit of shield damage, he doesn’t have anything even remotely safe on shield

#

And my god the jab 2 nerf feels really really bad. I think I only have like a 30% jab 1 properly linking into jab 2 success rate against Arya

It’s not fun to constantly play against top tier after top tier where everyone spams their brain dead safe option that happens to combo into literally whatever they want with stupid cheese setups and consistent kill confirms while trying to play a character who was good but nerfed so badly in the worst ways to the point where he’s very linear and boring and has zero combo expression with a jab that doesn’t even work half the time

I got into MVS for the neutral game, but now I’m leaving because the punish game has completely subverted the neutral game

I had faith when they were fixing stuff like Iron Giant infinites, Arya airwalker, and Joker death combos, but there are still characters with death combos over 6 months into the relaunch of the game and the overall design decisions have been so nerf heavy that more and more characters are becoming dull

You need to shield more on reaction to Shaggy jumping. Once Shaggy is airborne, there is nothing he can do about your shield. Everything Shaggy does on shield is punishable with Garnet clap and likely dodge jab as well

Moves like Shaggy kick and dash attack have a ton of whiff

#

Shaggy players also often overextend their combos to try and get early kills. You can use this opportunity to either return to a neutral state or potentially punish Shaggy if you’re in a position to do so

#

The whole gameplan is to play at a mid range where you can react to any Shaggy burst option and whiff punish or out of shield punish, but not so far away as to let him try and bait a bad approach by changing rage

#

3 stacking rhythm isn’t that useful against Shaggy because his only real armor moves are the rage specials which are easier to just camp out until the timer ends or punish if the Shaggy gets antsy and tries to throw out a yolo rage kick before the 7 second timer runs out
