its not perfect but the moment you learn when to use up special you can beat most of your opponents

it is a reactive move tho, you can't exactly use it to attack but rather use it to react to them or to extend a combo

horse is also good but mainly for movement, if you're in gold or higher they probably have a way to counter horse

bite is a good move but never rely on it otherwise itll be over for you

Jake feels good to play

He can feel clunky at times sure but once you get over the learning curve he is SO SATISFYING

If I had to give requirements in order to have him play well:

• Game Sense
• Catch onto enemies patterns
• Delay landings in order to punish (similar to King Dedede in smash)
• You have heavy edge guarding abilities, use it.
• you’re very aerial, keep it that way.

my honest guess is that to me, a lot of Jake's moves like his charged up attack and forward air have to be charged fully in order to do much, which i usually don't do and am not good at doing.

the first matches i had with jake were against a jason and raven and i wasn't able to even take a stock against them. In the doubles matches i've had with him, i'm always ending up with the lowest damage out of everyone.

i have trouble using nair honestly since i am always doing fair to move forward.

Stevens usually try to float, look to punish that

Stevens also approach with dair, so look to be above him when he hits the ground and punish accordingly

He is OP in 2s, not in 1s. Id say he can hold its own but the player has to know his limits, and they’re going to find out QUICK. That’s why not a lot of people play Jake, because he’s just… weird. He has little ground game, huge whiffs, and not a lot of reliable kill power. But, that’s what I love about him personally, because he doesn’t play like any of the other cast at all.

Being the underdog (pun intended) is actually fun, a lot of us just can’t click it through that Jake isn’t like the other cast and you can’t just pick him up like shaggy and play similarly to shaggy. You gotta learn his ins and outs, his weird techs, and the immense amount of bullhonk

I’ve been playing him since beta, and it’s been a trip. Where he is now, it’s a pretty damn good spot! It’s just that PFG didn’t really give him much on release and that’s why this thread is so unwelcoming. It’s purely anger because he was the worst in the game, it’s to be expected when it’s in mass though. However I do expect the thread to heal and become more friendly towards people asking about how Jake works. He’s so interesting and I really would like to see experienced Jake players show new ones the ropes.
