And in cases like Smash Ultimate, MMR can have two numbers: character MMR and Overall/Roster MMR. Character MMR correlates to how many people you are better than with that character specifically (usually) and Overall MMR is basically just what I explained earlier

I recommend you find a character that you like the movements and are at your level, then start watching a stream or video of someone who plays that character that you chose and look at the combos and how he plays to learn how to perfect it. In my case, I play Bugs and T&J, the streams of mirrorman (for bugs) and gsmvoid (for T&J) helped me a lot.

Yo as a beginner in Multiversus I just wanna say that Reindog's strats are absolutely crap. I main Harley and there's just no way to get close cuz they just spam projectiles, some advice is needed

As a reindog main, you can’t do anything. Thing that helps the most would be armor characters like Superman or wonder women or shaggy

Allows you to tank 1 shot without getting knockback

Generally with time you’ll get better at dodging too.

i also live for long, but its not because hes tanky its because I have good DI and spacing to prevent high knockback moves from killing. His up special and up air give him so much movement/air stall that makes it almost impossible for the other team to finish you/get you in disadvantage, not to mention it takes like .2 seconds to sned out a fireball while zooming around the map. Plus you can charge neutral projectile to give him more air stall and make a path for yourself to get back to stage.

the only real counter to reindog is rushing him down with bruisers/fast tanks or getting lucky

Look into Parsec or Steam remote play if you're trying to play with others now. These apps let people connect their controllers to your PC, and you stream your screen to them. Then you can play local matches

By default connected users can only use controller inputs. You have to manually give them keyboard/mouse access.

I suppose if you're not careful about giving those permissions some trouble could ensue, though there is a hotkey to kick all users.

If you're both playing keyboard you need to enable multikeyboard support. Open the game properties in Steam and there should be a 'launch options' settings. Enter '-multikeyboard' into that box then launch the game as normal.

An alternative option is to use this keyboard splitter: https://github.com/djlastnight/KeyboardSplitterXbox/releases/tag/2.2.0.0. Once set up, it will convert your keystrokes to Xbox controller output.

If anyone has platform fighter experience (mainly Rivals of Aether), I want some help trying to figure out who I should learn when I jump back in. I've played since the closed alpha and feel like I'm stuck on an endless character crisis

I mainly have been playing Hodan in Rivals of Aether for reference, and in Brawlhalla I've been using Rayman lately. Fighters that benefit most off keeping space (long range gauntlet sigs and sweat-spirits) but is able to be aggro when allowed a chance to... and in Hodan's case, allowing myself to enhance my abilities for greater effect in combos/gameplay, essentially a brawler with aspects on space control

Is there any recs you could offer based on what I feel like I want?

Over the course of the game's life I used Garnet, Taz, Bugs, Harley and even Iron Giant, while trying to mess with Batman or LeBron sometimes

I’d say Batman and lebron are gonna be your best picks but may I recommend Superman

He has some long reaching buttons not much in terms of projectiles but he can freeze other people’s projectiles and throw them at the opponent and his lazar vision gives him loads of stage control

Based on what you got, I have to say this: PLEASE play Rivals of Aether (Switch/PC), it's one of the best platform fighter experiences out there

It's a lot more grounded than MVS but the gameplay and characters are fun to use, engaging, plus it itself has a parry mechanic you can use to learn timing and stuff for when the re-release comes

All jonklering aside, that seems to be the good thing about PFG's balancing. This isn't like FF14 or other MMOs where you need a tank, damage, and heals. I've caused ragequits with a double-Rick projectile spam in the beta. I will say that bruiser/assassin/mage damage dealers are pretty much universally appreciated. Don't let me be misunderstood; heals are good. Being able to take the hits and keep on trucking are good. But the points all come from the kills, and the damage is what allows the kills to happen.

Of course with Jason it looks like tank role is going to be able to confirm kills pretty darn easily.

So who knows with the new pacing, netcode, and engine. But that was just my takeaway.

With multiple changes being done to the size of the characters, basically slightly shrinking the maps, as well as gameplay mechanics/speed alterations changing the flow of the game, it's hard to say exactly. At this point in time Townsville with Mojo Jojo boss and the procedural Dexter's Lab seem to be the only ones that are near-absolutely going to be tournament-banned.
In the beta, the basketball court was also not used in anything but custom matches and practice modes, so I would imagine that's not tournament legal as well. The built-in buff mechanic of that stage is probably a big no-no.
