Nope, people didnt want to feel "forced" to play pve content for rewards. Season 1 meant you had to clear 30 rifts total on different difficulties, I agree that is probably too much. Later rewards were just get stars on 1 difficulty per rift and it gave profile pictures and currency/bp xp. Became super lame until they adopted the rogue rift system which gives us skins

fighting games have a pvp focus. "making" people play pve so they can get skins is apparently the cruelest thing any game has ever done

Ranked matches you vs people within 2 ranks of your current rank. In 2v2s its within 2 ranks of the highest ranked person in the team. Master players cant have bronze characters, they instantly get sent up to gold when they play them. I also am a big fan of a ranked system in a fighting game that allows you to have individual ranks per character so you dont feel penalized for trying new ones.

I mean those who make master if they want to level up other characters get in a separate ranked system instead of the general pool because eventually like it is now ranked through about all levels is filled with masters and Grandmaster just at lower rank

This might be an unpopular opinion but master players already get forced up to gold on new characters and the game isn't that hard. If they reached gold playing the character through bronze/silver they likely have a decent grasp on the character enough that it wont be a pure stomp
