Honestly, heavyweights are difficult to make good at higher levels in a balanced state.
Iron Giant is the most extreme example, he's everything a textbook Heavyweight is amped up to 12.
I think the devs are being very cautious about making Jason a case of Iron Giant 2.0, especially since any Grey health gives him Super Armour.

You'll see a lot of that from him and Shaggy because they're the most accessible fighters. It means their player population is going to gravitate towards simple play styles.
It'll be less now than it was pre-1.05, but those players will still be around in good numbers because low-level play can get away with it

The only character that comes close is Reindog in doubles, but unlike Reindog Iron Giant has a fairly standard pick rate.

Just by clearing the previous difficulties and by doing the daily bonus missions, most of my gems are either lvl7 or 8

Filling up your Star meter to max really helps too. Every star meter can be filled easily if you're running through on co-op without investing in too many characters

Also, for anyone stuck on Megalodog, Wonder Woman makes things so much easier, especially at the boss.
Her down special, side special, and down tilt are good anti-projectile spam tools against Tom/Rein and Marv/LeBron.
Side air is also powerful as a kill move and jab -> jab -> Neutral does well too.
Abuse her armour against Megalodog, you'll take far less damage.

If you're talking about Steven/Garnet, you're already taking the harder route and don't have much of a choice as to who you can use.
WW works well on the top route specifically, and if you're doing co-op she absolutely shines.

From my experience Wonder Woman has an easier time than most against that pair.
Shaggy can also charge offstage without having to worry about the AI.
Getting a Co-op buddy is recommended for the 1v2s in general, #lfg-casual is the easiest place to find them

It's funny when you think about it. The Ai no longer follows you off stage to stop you from using Steven for easy wins, but that just means you can use Shaggy instead, making the easy wins more accessible.
Close one loophole, open up another.

imo rifts are fine but the "difficulty curve" for each one is actually incomprehensible. Max level gems for up until that point having done every type of that node before it yet i deal like 3 damage per hit meanwhile the ai gets me to 100+ or rungout in the same amount

Yeah, the difficulty curve needs tweaking. Rift 6 especially, for some reason the Ai is more aggressive there and the damage values are way harsher than rifts 4 and 5.

Grinding is not the issue I enjoy a grind ,it's the spike in difficulty that is the issue having level 6 gems and not being able to get through a level 4 rift definitely shows an issue with how this rift was optimised.

The timing is quite precise, and you have to do it while the spaceship is a ways off the ground
Personally, I'd go with the range attack spam. Morty can do it, but I've seen T&J's Slingshot work too

by the way if you aren't doing damage in rifts, you can charge off stage as shaggy and spam rage kicks and the computer will do nothing about it. Use the weaken stacks to juggle them off the top super early

Well you dont have to cheese it. That's just the strategy I recommend to people that aren't yet good enough to beat it without it, sorry. You could also just combo string them with Taz across the level into Bite/down air if you know how to do that.

Finishing every rift leaves your chaos gems at an average of 9, same with digital - finishing every horror rift, though, leaves your horror gems at an average of 8.3
(This is also doing every daily)

Very few are difficult with a partner, a lot of them kinda suck alone. I think it's also slightly RNG where your gem levels end up (whether your gem EXP concentrates into certain gems or spreads out too much), but you'll end with everything at 8 or 9.

Figures considering the 1v2's they give you seems like playing Solo is puting yourself at a big disadvantage.

I solod all the difficulities myself and I even went back and beat Insanity Megalodog's entire rift with two characters controlled on one controller across my Steam and Epic accounts. This isn't as hard as people think it is if you know what you are doing.

Once your gems reach a high enough level, honestly, the second difficulty isn't a real difficulty either. It kinda sucks more the 4th difficulty doesn't exist in the early ones.

The stat differences for leveling gems are actually absurd; once you're at a high enough level to be allowed into Looney, even Insanity you can kinda beat most nodes by just mashing and not really paying attention.

If your problem is not being able to do enough damage just in general, a fun fact is that ignite does good damage even if your attack gems are very weak. Like other people found the real good cheese for Megalodog with Morty and such, but we just kept setting him on fire and waiting for him to burn to death.

If you lure Megalodog to the corner and make him dive into the very edge of the map by going off stage as he dives, then dodge back onto the level through him, positioned correctly he will dive into the edge without going into his offstage instant bite. Then his fin will glitch and not appear. He will try to immediately chase you, but he will instead glitch into the level geometry and get deleted by the game failsafe for the instant win

Jason can be forced into level geometry on Throne room for an instant kill. Buggs can do it to himself on the very corner edge of some stages by standing underneath his own rocket just right.

Managed to lose a game online as Velma for having the mystery machine clip through the court. There is no bottom blast zone so one of our opponents was just gone forever. This also prevented, somehow, my teammate from ever respawning after dying, and I had to win a 1v1 as Velma vs a Finn which I was just not up for at all (especially since my speech bubbles were hard locked to targeting a spot way off-stage).

they put this into the game because Morty had a glitch in Beta to go inside the level and become invincible so they just made "going into inside of the level" instantly kill you as the fix if it ever happens again

I think we had like a 10% rate of getting stuck unable to move trying to use the Taz "jump into your teammate's dogpile" perk. I am unsure if we might just be the only people dumb enough to try to use that perk.

When the new rift dropped, the game got a new glitch where if a character takes too much knockback, they will stop moving the moment they hit a surface, or get their trajectory adjusted by something (such as a move's vacuum effect) this meant some characters became nearly impossible to kill if they took too much knockback like say, using level 7 gems on the easy mode rifts. But you could trigger it in a match with Watermelon Steven becasue he takes massive knockback, and he can reach a nigh invincible status because of it

i remember when the game came out last month. My friends and I played it. My friend used Jason's sleeping bag, managed to catch both me and my other friend. My teammate wound up getting sent to the void I guess because they didn't escape or respawn or anything. They just disappeared lol.

the sandwitch charge sig perk on shaggy doesnt feel like it makes a difference on charge time since the nerf. whats the point on keeping that sig perk?

It subtracts .5 seconds from the charge accoding to the stopwatch I set

charge time goes from 3 seconds to 2.5 seconds. Previously it took 3 down to 1.
