V8s on top after the first round here in 2030
F1- Sam Collins: "Renault’s 2030 F1 power unit introduces an advanced hybrid system that pushes the boundaries of performance and efficiency. At the heart of it is a 75kW electric motor, integrated seamlessly with their 2.4-litre V8 engine.
This hybrid unit is built around a highly refined Energy Recovery System (ERS), designed to capture kinetic energy during braking events. The energy is stored in a high-density lithium-ion battery, engineered to handle the intense power demands of F1 racing while maintaining weight efficiency.
The system is designed for highly efficient energy deployment. The 75kW motor provides instant torque, offering a crucial performance boost during acceleration, especially during overtaking or at low-speed corners. The power delivery is managed through a sophisticated power electronics unit (PEU), which ensures smooth integration between the V8 engine and hybrid unit. The PEU also optimizes energy harvesting and deployment, dynamically balancing performance and energy recovery during each phase of the lap.
Thermal management plays a critical role in this hybrid system. The motor, inverter, and battery are all equipped with advanced cooling systems to ensure optimal performance under extreme operating conditions. The hybrid unit’s compact size and lightweight design minimize any drag or weight penalties, which is crucial for both aerodynamics and handling.
With this hybrid system, Renault is not just improving outright power but also enhancing drivability and energy efficiency, aligning with F1's vision for 2030 and beyond."
