Sainz 3.3 ahead of Leclerc. Ferrari's 36-race winning Streak is under real threat at their home race!!
(BOZ) "You can push now bring down that gap."
MALONEY AND ARON MAKE CONTACT!
FASTEST LAP - LECLERC
That Maloney and Aron incident under review at the moment.
PITSTOP: Stânek in, and he takes his five second penalty.
Leclerc closing the gap on Sainz, and with DRS his bringing teammate Piastri with him!
Leclerc and Piastri now in range of Sainz!! Leclerc now going for P1 into Curva Grande and he takes it!
Piastri now up into P2 with a move on Sainz into Curve di Lesmo! Once again a Ferrari 1-2!
SAFETY CAR CALLED ON LAP 37!!!
OCON IS OUT. He's managed to beach the Haas in the gravel!!! His race is over and the Safety Car will make an appearance!!
(BOZ) "Safety Car. Ocon in the gravel, he's OK. Box this lap."
(LEC) "Copy box."
(BON) "And box for Softs. Box for Softs. Safety Car."
(PIA) "Yeah, box."
PITSTOPS: Ferrari forced into the double stack, which delays Piastri a little, he's down to P5 as Norris and O'Ward stay out!! Leclerc keeps P1, Sainz P2 now!
Lap 38, under SC: Leclerc, Sainz, Norris, O'Ward, Piastri, Antonelli, Russell, Verstappen, Pourchaire, Bottas, Bearman, Colapinto, Gasly, Pérez, Hadjar, Maloney, Aron, Herta, Stânek, Tsunoda, Ricciardo. Ocon out of the race.
No further action on Aron and Maloney for that collision. Ruled a racing incident.
Leclerc away well, Norris gets ahead of Sainz for P2, though!!
Piastri meanwhile gets ahead of O'Ward, he's up to P4! Russell up to 5th ahead of O'Ward
Sainz retakes P2 from Norris!
Piastri up to P3 and he's catching the front two!!!
Piastri overtakes Sainz, he has DRS AND IS GOING FOR THE LEAD BUT LECLERC HOLDS HIM OFF!!
Bottas is up to P5, ahead of the two Subarus!!!
Piastri goes for the lead again and he has it once more!! Sainz is sticking with the two Ferraris though!
The two Ferraris are wheel to wheel, Leclerc being held off by Piastri, just!
LECLERC GOES FOR THE LEAD AGAIN AND HE HAS IT BACK!!
BUT PIASTRI TAKES IT RIGHT BACK A LAP LATER!!!
Sainz steals P2 from Leclerc into the Parabolica, and this is going to be a close run thing, Leclerc takes it right back at the Curva Grande!!
THREE LAPS TO GO
LECLERC BACK INTO THE LEAD HERE! WHAT A MOVE THAT WAS!!
IT IS GOING TO THE WIRE BETWEEN THESE THREE CARS.
Contact between Bottas and Maloney!!! Maloney had found himself in the points, but he will lose them because of that five second penalty!!! What a disaster for him!
FINAL LAP

MAX VERSTAPPEN TO JOIN MERCEDES IN 2031
Huge breaking news ahead of Azerbaijan, as Max Verstappen has confirmed he will drive for Mercedes for the 2031 season.
Verstappen joins Mercedes from Subaru after three years with the Japanese team, and will join up with former Subaru teammate Oliver Bearman for next season.
Verstappen is joining his third team, having driven for Red Bull between 2016 and 2027, and spent the last three years at Subaru.
Verstappen replaces the outgoing Paul Aron, who leaves the team after just a year in F1.
KIMI ANTONELLI TO JOIN McLAREN FROM WILLIAMS FOR 2031
McLaren have announced the signing of Andrea Kimi Antonelli for the 2031 season, from Williams.
Antonelli is a huge get for McLaren, as the team beat out the challenge of his current team Williams as well as Red Bull, both of whom were linked to the talented young Italian.
Antonelli will join Lando Norris at the Papaya team from next season.

AZERBAIJAN GRAND PRIX 2030
WEEKEND PREVIEW
We head to Baku and the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, as the Ferrari title fight rumbles on, what can we expect from this coming weekend?
ROUND 14:
AZERBAIJAN GRAND PRIX
Baku City Circuit, Baku, Azerbaijan
September 13 - 15, 2030
Length: 6.003km
Turns: 20
Laps: 51
Support Events: F2, F3
LAST TIME AROUND
37 not out for Ferrari, as Charles Leclerc clinched victory on Ferrari's home soil, but they had a fight on their hands from Carlos Sainz in the Red Bull. Sainz beat out Oscar Piastri to second, meaning Leclerc now leads the Championship by 9 points over Piastri. Lando Norris was fourth, while two drivers who have announced moves this past week, Max Verstappen and Kimi Antonelli, were fifth and Sixth, Antonelli finishing P6 in his home race. Isack Hadjar made it a 6-7 for Williams, Franco Colapinto was eighth, Valtteri Bottas ninth, and Théo Pourchaire took tenth.
THE CIRCUIT
The 6.003km, 51 lap Baku City Circuit has been on the Formula 1 calendar since 2016, when it hosted the European Grand Prix, with the debut of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix one year later in 2017. This will be the 12th Azerbaijan Grand Prix and 13th race at this circuit, only missing 2020 in the process. The Baku City Circuit takes us around the modern and the ancient, with the middle sector in particular travelling around the UNESCO-protected Walled City, dating back to the 12th Century. The modern section of the Circuit features the 2 DRS Zones and more predominate for the overtaking, and those barriers are always a danger - a Safety Car or two always needs to be planned for. The Circuit is generally kind on tyres, so if we don't get that Safety Car, a one stop is expected from most teams, especially with a longer pitlane.
STORYLINES WE ARE WATCHING THIS WEEKEND
The Ferrari title fight: With Charles Leclerc's victory in Monza, Ferrari are now 37 races undefeated - but Leclerc has now got a nine point advantage over Oscar Piastri in the Drivers’ title fight. Can Piastri close the gap or will Leclerc extend it?
Where do Subaru go now?: With Max Verstappen leaving at the end of the season, Subaru are looking at their long term options for a replacement. Can they find a long term successor for Max on the grid, or will they go elsewhere?
Gasly looking to impress teams: With Pierre Gasly leaving McLaren, he is said to have his next seat lined up - but he’ll still be looking to impress and show McLaren what they are missing next season.
Aston Martin continue to look for answers: With Bottas retiring at the end of the season, Aston Martin have a free seat, and after a tough season, can they get a result here that would impress drivers looking for a 2031 drive?
And so we head to Baku and the run in properly begins towards the end of the 2030 season. One thing's for sure - you won't want to miss it.
FP1 Reserves List:
Alpine - Beganovic (Pérez)
Williams - Araya (Hadjar)
Haas - Rymill (Colaptino)

Subaru - Martins (Verstappen)
FP1 CLASSIFICATION
Oscar PIASTRI (Ferrari)

FP2 CLASSIFICATION
Oscar PIASTRI (Ferrari)
Charles LECLERC (Ferrari)
Carlos SAINZ (Red Bull)

VSC IN FP3!!!
A big off for Roman Stânek as he hits the wall and spins across the track!!! The Czech driver is lucky to walk away unhurt from that, that was a nasty crash!
FP3 CLASSIFICATION
Max VERSTAPPEN (Subaru)
Charles LECLERC (Ferrari)
Lando NORRIS (McLaren)
Oscar PIASTRI (Ferrari) - P5
Some intrigue on Saturday morning as Max Verstappen went quickest in FP3, ahead of Charles Leclerc and Lando Norris. Oliver Bearman was fourth with Oscar Piastri fifth, then Kimi Antonelli and Carlos Sainz. Isack Hadjar, Valtteri Bottas and George Russell complete the top ten. Roman Staněk had a big crash that he was lucky to walk away from.
It is time for Qualifying in Baku! After Oscar Piastri was dominant on Friday, Max Verstappen bounced back this early afternoon and showed some real pace, could he be pushing the Ferraris for Pole? Charles Leclerc will still be in the mix, and you can't count out the Red Bulls or McLaren, either. This should be very intriguing.
RED FLAG IN Q1!!!
Roman Stânek with his second crash of the day, and although this one was lighter, he still hit the wall at some speed. He's walked away but that was a horrendous crash.
Questions being asked about Stânek's suitability for F1?

Antonelli went quickest ahead of Piastri then Leclerc, who was on Pole after the first runs but must settle for P3. Russell Fourth with Norris fifth and Verstappen sixth. O'Ward and Sainz on row four, with Ocon and Bearman on row five. But Antonelli is very much the story having taken a sensational Pole!

Round 14 of the 2030 Formula 1 season and we are deep into the run-in territory, as we head for Baku and the Azerbaijan Grand Prix!! Just 8 rounds left of this marathon season, and the Championship fight is starting to intensify, but we have the most unlikely of Pole sitters. 51 laps of this 6.003km circuit on the verge of the Caspian Sea, on the border of Europe and Asia.
Both Alpines are on the back row as Stânek crashed out in Q1, while Pérez starts alongside him. Daniel Ricciardo and Colton Herta are on row ten, then it's Paul Aron alongside Valtteri Bottas on the ninth row. Isack Hadjar starts 16th and Théo Pourchaire is 15th, they'll remain at their teams for next season, Franco Colapinto starts alongside Zane Maloney on the seventh row, while Yuki Tsunoda lines up 12th, and Pierre Gasly is 11th. RED BULL RENEW SAINZ FOR 2031
Red Bull Racing have announced that Carlos Sainz will remain with the team through the 2031 season.
Sainz has performed well for the team over the last few seasons, and Red Bull Team Principal James Vowles called the move to retain Sainz "a no-brainer" and that he was delighted with Sainz's performance and decision to stay on at Red Bull.
Red Bull were rumoured to be looking at former Red Bull and current Subaru driver Max Verstappen, as well as Williams driver Andrea Kimi Antonelli.
However Verstappen signed for Mercedes and Antonelli joined McLaren, meaning that Sainz was the shoe-in to keep his seat with the team.
Sainz sits Fourth in the Drivers' Championship this season, and has three podiums.
STÂNEK TO LEAVE ALPINE AT END OF SEASON
Alpine Formula 1 have announced that Roman Staněk will not continue with the team in a race seat for the 2031 season.
After two hefty crashes this weekend and significant damages financially over the course of the year, the decision has been made to part ways with the rookie at the end of the season.
This is believed to be a Flavio Briatore move, and the team will wait to see on Sergio Pérez's future at the end of the season.
But Stânek has not impressed Briatore or Team Principal Guenther Steiner, and won't continue on beyond 2030.
WILLIAMS ANNOUNCE DAYTON COULTHARD FOR 2031
However one new rookie to the grid will be Scottish-Belgian driver Dayton Coulthard.
Son of David Coulthard, former Williams, McLaren and Red Bull driver, Dayton has impressed in F2 and as part of the Ferrari Driver Academy, and as a result, has secured the race seat to replace Andrea Kimi Antonelli, who joins McLaren next season.
Dayton will start his Formula 1 career at the same team his Dad begun his F1 career at.
PIERRE GASLY TO DRIVE FOR ASTON MARTIN IN 2031
Pierre Gasly has announced his move from McLaren to Aston Martin for the 2031 season.
Gasly will join former AlphaTauri teammate Yuki Tsunoda at the team for next year.
Gasly replaces Valtteri Bottas, who announced his retirement from Formula 1 at the end of this season.
Gasly and Tsunoda were teammates for two years at AlphaTauri, and a decade on, will be reunited at Aston Martin.

I am tempted to sim through to the Final race of the season just to give this series an ending
I have not had the time nor motivation to continue, but I'd like to finish it off and then maybe consider the idea of a 2026 version
Decided to sim through to create an ending for this save. I'll probably play the last race in Vegas as a true finale

THE RACE
Carlos Sainz won for Red Bull for the first time in over two years, leading home Max Verstappen and Pierre Gasly, as Ferrari were caught out by two very badly timed Safety Cars.
Sainz drove brilliantly and picked up his first, and Red Bull's, first win of the season on the penultimate weekend.
A full Safety Car caused by the collision of the two Audis of Zane Maloney and Pato O'Ward, and Yuki Tsunoda crashing out on his own causing a VSC, both came directly after both Ferraris had pit. Therefore it led them stranded in no man's land, and while Oscar Piastri recovered to P4 and Charles Leclerc to P7, it cost them any chance of this race. It means that Oscar Piastri goes into Las Vegas seven points clear of Charles Leclerc.
Max Verstappen was Driver of the Day, going from P13 to P2, another successful race for him at Interlagos, while Pierre Gasly converted his surprise Pole into a Podium.
Between the two Ferraris were George Russell and Lando Norris, while Théo Pourchaire, Kimi Antonelli and Esteban Ocon completed the points.
