SOUTH AFRICAN GRAND PRIX 2030
WEEKEND PREVIEW

A historic weekend in the history of Formula 1 as we return to the continent of Africa for the first time since 1993, and for the first of two races this year as Formula 1 races on six continents this season. It is the South African Grand Prix.

ROUND 6:
SOUTH AFRICAN GRAND PRIX
Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit, Midrand, Gauteng, South Africa
May 10 - 12, 2030
Length: 4.529km
Turns: 16
Laps: 66
Support Events: F2, F3

#

LAST TIME AROUND

Charles Leclerc took his second victory of the season in the Canadian rain at Montreal, and also doubled up with a Sprint victory, as Oscar Piastri had to settle for third behind Max Verstappen. Leclerc reduced the early Championship advantage of Piastri to just four points. Behind the front three, the two Red Bulls were split by Lando Norris, who came from P18 on the grid to take a tremendous P5, thanks in part to a superb pitstop from his team in the changing conditions. Theo Pourchaire landed P7 as Haas took double points through Esteban Ocon's P8 and Franco Colapinto's P9, and Pierre Gasly secured a point ahead of Isack Hadjar.

#

THE CIRCUIT

It has been a long time coming for Kyalami in Formula 1, and the 66 lap 4.529km circuit sees its first Formula 1 action since 1993, when it opened that particular season, and the race was won by Alain Prost, also seeing a notable incident where Michael Schumacher collided with Aryton Senna and was forced to retire from the race. The newly upgraded Grade 1 FIA Circuit finds itself located in Midrand, Gauteng, South Africa, and becomes South Africa's New home of Formula 1 for the foreseeable future. The circuit features corners such as “The Kink”, a right deviation in the track which splits the main straight into two sections. Also featured is a 90 degree turn known as “Barbeque” at turn 5. Barbeque is lead into by the infamous Jukskei Sweep, named for the nearby Jukskei River, and will be a test of these modern Formula 1 cars. Leeukoup is a deep corner that may catch a few cars out, leading to Mineshaft and the Crocodiles, before finishing off with Cheetah and Ingwe, which leads to the Kink and the main straight. Featuring 16 turns but just one DRS Zone, it will be a true test of driving skill for this grid.

#

STORYLINES WE ARE WATCHING THIS WEEKEND

AWAY FROM A TRADITIONAL HOME GAME, CAN FERRARI KEEP UP THEIR EARLY MOMENTUM?

This slot has traditionally belonged to Imola, meaning this would be Ferrari's first of two home races this season, however they will have to wait until Monza later in the year for a home race. It is five wins from five so far this year, however the 1-2 Streak was broken early this season as Max Verstappen took second from Oscar Piastri. Ferrari haven't been beaten on the F1 circuit since the 2028 Sao Paulo Sprint, and on a Sunday since the 2028 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix - a race that is no longer on the calendar. But this is a whole new circuit for all the teams, and can Ferrari keep up that early season momentum? There is just four points between Oscar Piastri and Charles Leclerc in the early Drivers Championship race, will we find ourselves with another intra Ferrari battle, or can anyone else push on and make a challenge for the title?

#

WILLIAMS LOOK TO BREAK THROUGH AFTER CLOSE CALL AT CANADA

Williams aim to reach the points this weekend after Isack Hadjar just missed out on his first points of the year to McLaren's Pierre Gasly in Canada. A team that seem to quietly be gaining momentum, Williams were close last time around but now may feel confident of scoring points at a track that may well very much suit their car this season. Kimi Antonelli has had a strong start to the year, sitting seventh in the Championship, while Hadjar nearly breaking into the points may give him the momentum and the confidence to finally break through and get his first points of the year. Williams dropped to Sixth in the Championship after Haas scored double points, and it is tight in the midfield in the early going. Points here would be a huge boost to the Grove team.

#

SUBARU AND McLAREN LOOK TO PUSH ON TO CHALLENGE AT THE FRONT

Subaru and McLaren find themselves separated by just six points in the early going, but Max Verstappen's P2 and Lando Norris’ P5 will have given both teams hope that they can challenge for podiums and potentially even race wins this season. Verstappen in particular looks the best bet outside of the Ferrari pairing, with respect to the two Red Bulls, to push Piastri and Leclerc for those wins this season. But those points may be vital in this early battle between the two teams for third. Subaru find themselves 65 points back from Red Bull, while McLaren are a further six behind, and while it is early, this may well be the race for P3 in the Championship this season. Finishing ahead of the rivals may be vital towards that this year.

And so to the first South African race since 1993. This will be an extremely intriguing weekend on a circuit modern Formula 1 has never been to, and one thing is for sure - you won't want to miss it.

#

Ferrari DUNNE AND CÂMARA TO RUN FP1

Ferrari are fulfilling a mandated rookie FP1 this weekend as Alexander Dunne and Rafael Câmara will take part in this session.

Dunne is making his third FP1 appearance so far this season, while Câmara, who is being tipped for a potential seat for 2031, is making his second.

#

FP1 Reserves: Ferrari Dunne (Leclerc), Câmara (Piastri), RedBull Grant (Russell), Giusti (Sainz), Mercedes Wharton (Bearman), Haas Rymill (Ocon), Audi O'Sullivan (O'Ward), AstonMartin Miní (Tsunoda), Subaru Martins (Pourchaire)

Despite it being a new circuit, a lot of teams fulfilling FP1 mandates this weekend, with both Ferraris and both Red Bulls. Câmara and Grant are particular ones to watch as both are being tipped for potential 2031 F1 seats.

#

THREE PLACE GRID PENALTY FOR MALONEY AFTER COLAPINTO CRASH IN FP2

Audi's Zane Maloney faces a three place grid penalty for Sunday's South African Grand Prix after a collision with Franco Colapinto.

The Barbadian driver collided with the Argentinian at the Barbeque corner, having locked up his car, and crashing his Audi into the Haas of Colapinto.

Maloney was found to be at fault and will now take a three place grid penalty for Sunday's race.

Maloney has accepted his fault for the incident, and apologised to Colapinto for it.

#

FP3: Ferrari PIA Ferrari LEC McLaren NOR

Piastri quickest in FP3 ahead of Leclerc and Norris, with Sainz fourth and Russell fifth. Verstappen makes his first top ten appearance of the weekend in sixth, while Bearman takes seventh and Bottas eighth. Staněk and Antonelli complete the top ten.

#

It is time to go qualifying here in Kyalami, and a little bit surprisingly for the first competitive F1 session in South Africa for 37 years...we have a little bit of rain in the air. It's dry for now, but we could see rain intermittently throughout this afternoon. Ferrari are unsurprisingly the favourites for Pole, but Red Bull, McLaren, Haas, Williams and Subaru have all shown some pace. What will this session bring?

Well, it is officially time to make some history again here in Formula 1. In 2030, we go racing in six continents, and we are heading to Africa, and South Africa, for the first time since 1993. 66 Laps of this 4.529km circuit, just one DRS Zone and 16 turns, as we prepare for the South African Grand Prix. Alain Prost was the last driver to win a Formula 1 race in South Africa 37 years ago, who will add their name to that list today?

#

It's Sergio Pérez and Daniel Ricciardo on the back row as Ricciardo's farewell tour continues, Roman Staněk starts 20th alongside Théo Pourchaire who was a somewhat surprising Q1 exit. Colton Herta starts 18th with Oliver Bearman 17th, Zane Maloney takes a penalty for a crash with Franco Colapinto in FP2 so he starts 16th, Yuki Tsunoda meanwhile lines up 15th. Paul Aron begins his sixth F1 race from 14th with Pierre Gasly 13th, Valtteri Bottas and Isack Hadjar start just outside the points. A surprising just P10 start for George Russell while Franco Colapinto lines up 9th, Pato O'Ward and Kimi Antonelli are on the fourth row, while Max Verstappen lines up P6 and Esteban Ocon starts 5th. Lando Norris begins today from 4th with Carlos Sainz third, and it is a second consecutive front row lock-out for Ferrari. Oscar Piastri starts behind his teammate for just the second time this season, and it is the first Pole of the year for Charles Leclerc.

South Africa's first Formula 1 race in 37 years did not disappoint, with a close run battle between Ferrari teammates Charles Leclerc and Oscar Piastri, as Leclerc took his second win of the season to go top of the Drivers Championship by three points. Lando Norris beat out Carlos Sainz for the third step of the podium, with Max Verstappen, George Russell and Esteban Ocon all showing pace in that battle but having to settle for fifth, sixth and seventh respectively. THE CIRCUIT

The Circuit de Monaco is the crown jewel of Formula 1 and one third of the triple crown of Motorsport. This world famous street circuit is held in the Principality of Monaco, with the narrow course being one of the most difficult and dangerous races of the season every single season. Never an overtaking fest, but with overtaking at a premium, it's the most important qualifying of the season, and is very much one for the purists. The barriers lurk around each section of this circuit and the slightest of errors can end your race in an instant, and bring out an instant Safety Car or even a Red Flag, potentially changing the race in an instant. Traditionally occurring the same day as the Indianapolis 500 and the Coke 600, this race is the only Grand Prix that doesn't adhere to the 305km rule in F1 - at 78 laps, the 3.337 km circuit is the shortest race of the season.

LECLERC LOOKS TO WRITE HIMSELF INTO THE HISTORY BOOKS ON HOME SOIL

Charles Leclerc could write more Formula 1 history this weekend at his home race, as he could take a record tying sixth victory at this famous circuit. Last year, Leclerc tied Michael Schumacher and Graham Hill on five victories in the Monaco Grand Prix, one off tying Aryton Senna's record of six wins around the streets of Monte Carlo. The Monegasque driver took his first home victory back in 2024, and followed it up with successive victories in 2025, 2026 and 2027 before finishing second to Ferrari teammate Oscar Piastri in 2028, before the aforementioned fifth win last year. Leclerc has won three races this season, including the last two in Canada and South Africa. Can he take the historic sixth home win, a third consecutive win this season, and extend the advantage in the Championship?

#

FOUR CONTENDERS BEHIND THE FERRARIS. CAN ANY ONE OF THEM BREAK THROUGH?

In the fight behind Leclerc and Piastri, four drivers find themselves in contention for third in the Drivers Championship, with 19 points separating George Russell in third and Max Verstappen in sixth, with Carlos Sainz eight points behind his Red Bull teammate, and Lando Norris seven points behind his former McLaren AND Red Bull teammate. Norris is just four ahead of another former teammate in Verstappen, and Russell, Norris and Verstappen have shared the non Ferrari podiums through the first six races. But can any of them break through and potentially challenge for the victory around the streets of Monte Carlo this weekend? Red Bull have generally looked the quickest of the three teams, while McLaren are bringing upgrades and Subaru have the highest race finish - Verstappen's P2 in Canada. This should be very intriguing between the three teams in the fight for that podium. Could it be more though?

#

CAN HAAS CONTINUE THEIR FORWARD MOMENTUM?

Haas have continued to improve and find themselves fifth in the table after six rounds, a massive improvement for the team, led by the resurgence of Esteban Ocon, who found himself fighting for the podium in Canada at one point, although had to settle for P8. Ocon has scored points in all but one race so far this season - Malaysia - and Haas took double points at Montreal, before a P7 for Ocon in Kyalami last time around. It is a team very much going in the right direction under the management of Mike Krack, and find themselves in a fight for fifth right now with their former Team Principal Ayao Komatsu, now in charge at Williams. Could Haas break through for a first ever podium this season? Monaco is just the sort of race that could potentially bring that about, and with the team's superb qualifying pace this season, you never know. An opportunity could be there for the American team.

And so to Monaco for this weekend's race, the jewel in the F1 crown, one of the biggest weekends in Motorsport. And one thing's for sure - you won't want to miss it.

FIRST PRACTICE CLASSIFICATION

Oscar PIASTRI (Ferrari)
Charles LECLERC (Ferrari)
Pato O'WARD (Audi)

Ferrari take the 1-2 to start the weekend, Piastri ahead of Leclerc. O'Ward in P3, with Red Bull junior Giusti Fourth. Pourchaire followed with Tsunoda next, then Norris, Grant, Goethe and Antonelli, who had a crash late in the session.

#

SECOND PRACTICE CLASSIFICATION

Oscar PIASTRI (Ferrari)
Charles LECLERC (Ferrari)
Andrea Kimi ANTONELLI (Williams)

A second consecutive FP P1 for Oscar Piastri, who looks for his second win around the streets of Monaco, while Charles Leclerc, looking for his sixth, is again P2. Kimi Antonelli recovered from his FP1 crash to take third ahead of Max Verstappen, who saw his first action of the weekend. Lando Norris and Isack Hadjar followed, with Esteban Ocon, Pato O'Ward, Carlos Sainz and Franco Colapinto completing your top ten.

#

A VSC IN FP3.

Lando Norris off at Sainte Devote!!! The McLaren, running P2 at the time, is in the barrier! Lando is thankfully OK but he's left his team some work to do on the car!

#

As the crane comes out to pick up that McLaren, first sighting for that crane this weekend. The second big crash, but Antonelli was able to get back to the pitlane.

Worrying for McLaren ahead of qualifying later this afternoon.

#

Verstappen reporting a fault with the Subaru. Engine issues with that Honda engine. Thankfully for him it's happened now before Parc Ferme kicks in.

#

THIRD PRACTICE CLASSIFICATION

Oscar PIASTRI (Ferrari)
Carlos SAINZ (Red Bull)
George Russell (Red Bull)

Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) - P4

Oscar Piastri has a clean sweep of FP P1s as he looks to regain the lead of the Championship ahead of both Red Bulls of Sainz and Russell. Leclerc P4 on home soil, with Pourchaire and Verstappen 5th and 6th. Ocon, Hadjar, Colapinto and O'Ward all in the top ten.

#

Welcome to Monaco and to this iconic circuit. Legends are born around this famous track, and with overtaking incredibly difficult on the Sunday, Qualifying is the most important it has been, or will be, all season long. Pole sitters have generally done very well here, and Monaco's hopes of course rely on their own four time former Champion, Charles Leclerc, but Oscar Piastri has generally had the pace this weekend in practice. Carlos Sainz has had the most Poles this season, and you cannot ever count out Max Verstappen. Who will take Pole this afternoon?

#

IT IS A RED FLAG LATE IN Q1

#

Alpine's Roman Staněk is in the wall, and that's the end of his session in Q1!! He went off at Sainte Devote - the second driver to do so this weekend! The Czech driver is okay and unhurt, but he'll line up last on the grid!

#

There's going to be enough time to restart this session - but not much on the clock to allow any of the bottom six - currently Bottas, Ricciardo, Herta, Pérez and Gasly, along with Staněk- to get time for a lap to get through!

#

Every driver bar the two Ferraris attempting another lap here.

#

Gasly gets himself out the bottom six, relegating Antonelli to it, but Antonelli manages to get himself up to P13 and that knocks out Colapinto instead!!

#

Q1 ELIMINATIONS

Franco COLAPINTO (Haas)
Valtteri BOTTAS (Aston Martin)
Sergio PÉREZ (Alpine)
Daniel RICCIARDO (Andretti)
Colton HERTA (Andretti)
Roman STANĚK (Alpine)

Bubble - Paul ARON (Mercedes)

Top Five: Sainz, Leclerc, Verstappen, Piastri, Russell

Drama at the last in Q1 after Staněk crashed out, as Gasly and Antonelli just get out of it. Colapinto drops out in Q1 and Bottas continues his tough start to 2030, while both Andrettis and both Alpines are out. Sainz went quickest, Leclerc second, then Verstappen, Piastri and Russell.

#

Piastri in P1, just P9 for Leclerc but he did go on used Softs on his first run. The former Champion still not in an ideal slot in his home Qualifying, though. Pourchaire just behind him.

#

No mistakes from Leclerc as he goes P2. Gasly at risk, both Mercedes on fliers. Hadjar, Maloney, Tsunoda and Pourchaire all in the dropzone and none will have time to improve. Just P13 for Bearman, P15 for Aron, Gasly makes Q3.

#

Q2 ELIMINATIONS

Théo POURCHAIRE (Subaru)
Isack HADJAR (Williams)
Oliver BEARMAN (Mercedes)
Zane MALONEY (Audi)
Paul ARON (Mercedes)
Yuki TSUNODA (Aston Martin)

Bubble - Pierre GASLY (McLaren)

Through to Q3: Piastri, Sainz, Leclerc, Russell, Antonelli, O'Ward, Ocon, Norris, Verstappen, Gasly

#

Q3 begins. Who will take Pole?

#

After the first runs in qualifying it's oh so close - Sainz has it for now, just 0.028 ahead of Leclerc and 0.057 ahead of Piastri. Verstappen's 2 tenths off in Fourth, then Russell, Antonelli, Norris, Ocon, Gasly and O'Ward. Final runs coming up.

#

Neither Sainz nor Piastri improving, LECLERC PURPLE S1. Antonelli stays P6. Sainz improves sector three, PIASTRI PURPLE S2, Norris goes sixth, LECLERC AGAIN PURPLE AND WHAT A LAP THIS IS. Russell up to Fourth, ahead of Verstappen, Antonelli down to P7 as Norris goes sixth. Ocon, eighth, PIASTRI ONTO POLE! BUT LECLERC IS FLYING ROUND HERE...BUT HE LOSES TIME ON THE FINAL SECTOR AND PIASTRI STEALS POLE FROM HIS TEAMMATE ON HOME SOIL!!! WHAT DRAMA HERE!

#

Q3 CLASSIFICATION

Oscar PIASTRI (Ferrari) - POLE
Charles LECLERC (Ferrari)
Carlos SAINZ (Red Bull)
George RUSSELL (Red Bull)
Max VERSTAPPEN (Subaru)
Lando NORRIS (McLaren)
Andrea Kimi ANTONELLI (Williams)
Esteban OCON (Haas)
Pato O'WARD (Audi)
Pierre GASLY (McLaren)

#

What a Q3 here. We thought for all intents and purposes that Leclerc was on for P1 at home, but that final sector let him down. Piastri takes it from his teammate. Sainz and Russell beat out Verstappen to row two, so he's joined on row three by his former teammate Lando Norris. Antonelli and Ocon on row four, row five for O'Ward and Gasly.

#

STANĚK TO START FROM PITLANE

Roman Staněk will start Sunday's Monaco Grand Prix from the pitlane after his Q1 crash.

The Alpine driver crashed out at Saint Devote, bringing out the Red Flag and ending his session early.

Having qualified P22 anyway, Staněk made the choice to start from the pitlane and adjust his setup.

#

Welcome to Super Sunday, and with the Indianapolis 500 and Coke 600 still to come on this motor racing Sunday, our attention turns to the centrepiece of the F1 Calendar - the Monaco Grand Prix. 78 Laps of this 3.337km circuit, clocking in at just over 260km, it's the shortest race of the season, but it's the one every driver wants to win - and only a select few can.

#

Roman Staněk starts from the pitlane after his Q1 crash, so Colton Herta is alone on the back row. Sergio Pérez and Daniel Ricciardo, who have both won this famous race, start on the tenth row - it'll be Ricciardo's final Appearance before retirement. Valtteri Bottas and Franco Colapinto start on row nine, Yuki Tsunoda just two spots ahead of his teammate in 16th and Paul Aron makes his Monaco GP debut from 15th. Zane Maloney lines up 14th with Oliver Bearman 13th, Isack Hadjar and Théo Pourchaire line up 12th and 11th. Pierre Gasly just inside the top ten beside former teammate Pato O'Ward, Esteban Ocon and Kimi Antonelli are on row four. Lando Norris starts sixth with Max Verstappen, who's won here twice 5th. An all Red Bull second row as George Russell and Carlos Sainz start together on that row, Ferrari lock out the front row. Charles Leclerc goes for a record tying sixth win on home soil, but he's got a formidable challenge in World Champion Oscar Piastri who goes for his second win here, and he starts from Pole Position.

#

The cars pushing round for the formation lap here, the start will be crucial. What will this year's Monaco Grand Prix bring us?

#

One light, two, three, four, five...AND IT'S LIGHTS OUT AND AWAY WE GO

#

Piastri is away well, Leclerc having to fight off Sainz but Verstappen uses the opportunity to squeeze both Red Bulls for position and the Dutch driver is up to third, TSUNODA HITS THE BARRIER AT MIREAUS BAS AND AGAIN AT PORTIER AND HE HAS SERIOUS DAMAGE!!!

#

PITSTOP: Tsunoda has dragged his Aston Martin into the pitlane, and takes on new Softs and a new nosecone. He's 27 seconds off Staněk for P21, and may have compromised his entire race now!

#

(BOZ) "Marathon not a Sprint here, keep the tyres cool and look for any opportunities you can get to overtake."

(LEC) "Copy. Don't worry Bryan, I know these streets well"

#

FASTEST LAP - SAINZ

Sainz, down in P4, takes the fastest lap on Lap 3.

#

Interestingly the Ferraris have split their strategies - Leclerc started on the Mediums, Piastri will go longer on the Hard tyres. Curious to see which one works better. No mandatory two stopper this year, of course.

#

Verstappen AND Norris reporting some issues - Verstappen's seem to be reoccurring from Friday's session!

#

Piastri and Leclerc now have five seconds on the pack - this feels like a straight up one on one fight now.

#

LECLERC HAVING A LOOK DOWN THE INSIDE INTO SAINT DEVOTE, THE TWO FERRARIS GO WHEEL TO WHEEL, AND LECLERC GETS THE MOVE DONE DOWN THE INSIDE!!! That was a lovely move, and the Monegasque man leads his home race!!

#

(BON) "Okay Oscar, plenty of racing left, no need to hold back, let's go for it"

#

Sainz ahead of Verstappen, who is now struggling with that engine!

#

Issues continue for Verstappen, and that's wrecked his good start. Russell goes ahead of him for P4.

#

Piastri having a look to try and take his lead back from Leclerc, but the home man closes the door.

Sainz however is gaining on both! He's now within 3.5 of the Ferrari pair!

#

It has to be said, how far Carlos Sainz has gotten back into form after his dismal Mercedes stint, bar his final year there. The move to Red Bull has been huge for him. Surely they renew his deal.

#

There's a green car right in front of Leclerc and Piastri - Yuki Tsunoda, who is being lapped on Lap 14. A truly awful situation for Aston this season.

#

That's partly due to the gearbox issues - Tsunoda seemed to damage the car during that lap 1 crash.

#

Speaking of issues - Verstappen's engine isn't doing well - he's down to P6, behind his former teammate Norris!

#

OH MY GOD A RED FLAG HAS HAPPENED. ESTEBAN OCON IS IN THE WALL, AND A CAR HAS SLAMMED RIGHT INTO HIM!!!

#

That was the car of Isack Hadjar, and while both men are okay, both men are out of the Monaco Grand Prix!! Heartbreaking for both, particularly Ocon who was running very well!!

#

Restart on Lap 20: Leclerc, Piastri, Sainz, Russell, Norris, Verstappen, Antonelli, O'Ward, Pourchaire, Gasly, Maloney, Bearman, Bottas, Aron, Colapinto, Pérez, Ricciardo, Herta, Staněk, Tsunoda. Ocon and Hadjar out of the race.

#

The cars setting up again...AND IT'S LIGHTS OUT AND AWAY WE GO AGAIN

#

Leclerc away well but Sainz has gotten ahead of Piastri off the start!! Could be a problem for the World Champion here!! Antonelli up to P6, Pourchaire ahead of his teammate Verstappen!!!

#

Both Audis now running in the top ten, and that could be a big result for them if it holds!!

#

FASTEST LAP - LECLERC

Leclerc now putting some distance between himself and his current and former teammate. Sainz holding P2 from Piastri right now.

#

O'Ward now up to P8, as Verstappen continues to struggle with the engine issues.

#

(PIA) "Nice."

(BON) "Well done Oscar. You're currently P2, Charles the car ahead. Gap 2.1."

#

Piastri now ahead of Sainz, and trying to make up the gap on Leclerc. They switched tyres during the Red Flag - meaning Leclerc now on the Hards, Piastri on the Mediums.

#

Piastri has now bridged that gap, and is very close to Leclerc's DRS Range!

#

Russell ahead of Sainz for P3!

#

Maloney into P9 and Verstappen continues to struggle with the car!

#

Piastri on the attack again now, but Russell and Sainz are also in play behind him and Leclerc!!

#

PENALTY - CAR 31 (OCON)

The FIA have handed a penalty to Esteban Ocon for that collision with Isack Hadjar. He's felt to have been at fault. With him out of the race, that'll be a grid penalty for Hockenheim.

#

Antonelli with a fantastic overtake on Norris to take P5! What a race he's having so far!

#

Gasly has just been on the radio to say he's having a problem with his gearbox. Currently running P10, 1.9 ahead of Bottas.

Verstappen down to P12 and that Subaru is struggling badly.

#

PIASTRI GOES FOR THE OVERTAKE AND HE RETAKES THE LEAD!!! WOW!

#

And Piastri has now broken clear as Leclerc is held up by a lapped Tsunoda!!!

#

(LEC) "I don't know what he was doing there, but that wasn't helpful"

(BOZ) "Copy, we're on it, focus on your race"

#

Piastri has broken clear here as Leclerc is trying to defend position from Russell on Lap 42!

#

PITSTOP: Pourchaire into the pitlane to change out the Softs, coming in from P7. He returns P11.

Bottas now into the points and that could be huge for him!

#

Gasly struggling and Bottas, and Verstappen, both ahead of him! Verstappen now back into the points!

#

(LEC) "What is the gap to Oscar?"

(BOZ) "2.7. You were 8 tenths quicker on the last lap, keep this pace up."

#

(BON) "Thoughts on Plan C?"

(PIA) "Tricky."

#

PITSTOP: Valtteri Bottas in and switching to the Hards on Lap 47, Aston actually double stacking as Tsunoda, a lap down also in for Mediums. Paul Aron also makes the stop for Mediums.

#

PITSTOP: O'Ward in for Softs on Lap 50. Ambitious from Audi, he rejoins P10. Gasly also taking the Softs down in P15.

#

The Tyre advantage now kicking in for Leclerc, who has cut the gap to 1.8. However Russell is sticking with him!

#

(BOZ) "And no need for LiCo here, you are free to push"

#

Zane Maloney currently running P7. An incredible drive from him today.

#

PITSTOP: Russell in and taking Mediums! He drops to P6!

#

(BON) "Box, box"

(PIA) "Copy, box"

#

PITSTOP: Piastri in from the lead! A 2.284 stop for him and he's onto the Softs! Those Mediums were never going to last the duration. Piastri now rejoins in P3, 16 seconds behind Leclerc!

#

(LEC) "Is everything fine with the ERS?"

(BOZ) "We are checking"

#

(BOZ) "Okay, looks like a minor fault. Should be okay for the rest of this race, we'll likely need to swap it out after today though."

(LEC) "That's fine, as long as it makes it to the end."

(BOZ) "How are tyres?"

(LEC) "Tyres are okay, Plan C is management I think"

#

FASTEST LAP - PIASTRI

Piastri flying on the Softs here. 3 seconds behind.

#

WE HAVE A CAR STOPPED ON TRACK ON THE TUNNEL!!! Colton Herta's engine has blown out!!!

#

SAFETY CAR CALLED.

Wow. Wow, wow, WOW. That'll be a free stop for Leclerc and Sainz now for the Softs.

#

(BOZ) "And Safety Car, Safety Car."

(LEC) "What happened?"

(BOZ) "Car stopped on track. Engine. Herta. He's okay."

(LEC) "Okay good. Can we box now?"

(BOZ) "Box immediately."

#

PITSTOPS: Leclerc, Sainz, Norris and Antonelli all pit, Piastri goes back into the lead and this should be a fascinating finale when we get going again! Maloney and Verstappen also in for the Softs.

#

Lap 61, under SC: Piastri, Leclerc, Russell, Sainz, Norris, Antonelli, Pourchaire, O'Ward, Maloney, Bottas, Bearman, Aron, Verstappen, Colapinto, Gasly, Staněk, Ricciardo, Pérez, Tsunoda. Herta, Ocon and Hadjar out of the race.

#

Lapped cars now being allowed to overtake. That's...Tsunoda, and...Tsunoda. and he's at the back of the pack. This might take a minute.

#

GREEN FLAG - RACING RESUMES

We are racing again on Lap 65! Piastri and Leclerc already opening up an advantage on those Softs!

#

FASTEST LAP - PIASTRI

Piastri opening up an advantage here, and if he can hold said advantage, he will win not only his second Monaco GP, but go back to the top of the Drivers' Championship.

#

Verstappen on the radio about the downshifts. Those car issues have completely wrecked his afternoon.

#

Leclerc back in DRS Range. But can he get the move done that he needs in the next 12 Laps?

#

Piastri reopens the advantage!

#

PÉREZ HITS THE WALL!! He's into the wall at Anthony Noghes, the final corner, and loses a place to Ricciardo as a result!

#

Leclerc is right back in range of Piastri!! But Piastri defending brilliantly well!

#

LECLERC GOES FOR THE DIVEBOMB AT THE HAIRPIN AND HE GETS IT DONE!!! IS THAT THE MOVE THAT WILL WIN HIM HIS SIXTH HOME RACE, TYING SENNA?

#

Piastri gets a strike for track limits as he cut that corner, but didn't really lose any time for it. Just a warning for now.

#

(LEC) "Rears starting to drop a little bit"

(BOZ) "Just three laps to go. Keep at it, keep pushing, keep defending."

#

Into the penultimate lap and it has been an incredibly eventful Monaco Grand Prix. Piastri keeping the pressure on Leclerc here.

#

LAST LAP

#

All or nothing here for the two Ferraris. Piastri has another look down the inside but Leclerc keeps the door shut as they go round that famous hairpin for the last time today. Into the tunnel and Leclerc goes through in the lead ahead of Piastri, it is going to be a record tying SIXTH MONACO GRAND PRIX WIN FOR CHARLES LECLERC, HE WINS HIS HOME RACE, CHARLES LECLERC WINS THE MONACO GRAND PRIX!!!

#

(BOZ) "AND THAT'S P1, SIX WINS HERE. INCREDIBLE, INCREDIBLE CHARLES. AMAZING JOB."

(LEC) "YESSSSSS!!! LET'S GOOOOOOO!!!!! COME ON!!!!! YES YES YES!!! Ahhhh, COME ON! No matter how many times, it always feels good to win here. It always feels good. It'll never get old."

(BOZ) "Amazing. That's the record tied. Next year we go for the record breaker. Incredible job."

(LEC) "Thank you Bryan, thank you to the team. This is incredible."

#

(BON) "And that's the flag, P2, Oscar. You gave it everything, you can be very proud today. Great effort mate."

(PIA) "Yep, gave it everything. Uh, very very well managed, just, tough to lose that close to the end, but yeah. Congratulations to Charles, he drove a great race, and uh, yeah. We'll keep pushing."

(BON) "It is not over yet, Oscar, long way to go this season."

#

George Russell with another P3! Sainz 4th, Norris 5th

#

Antonelli 6th, Pourchaire 7th, MALONEY EIGHTH. O'Ward ninth, Bottas gets his first point of the season in Tenth.

STING RAY ROBB TAKES STUNNING INDIANAPOLIS 500 WIN TO DENY THE THREEPEAT FOR LUNDGAARD

Sting Ray Robb stunned the Indianapolis Motor Speedway by taking victory in the 115th Indianapolis 500, denying Christian Lundgaard a third consecutive victory, and taking the first American victory in the race since Josef Newgarden in 2023.

Robb was superb in his drove and took the win ahead of Lundgaard and Alex Palou, who joined him on the podium.

Former winner Louis Foster was fourth, sith Rinus Veekay fifth and Neagarden sixth. Nolan Siegel took seventh, with former F1 drivers Nico Hülkenberg and Alexander Albon eighth and Ninth. Felix Rosenqvist took Tenth.

Kyle Kirkwood and Kevin Magnussen both crashed out.

But it was the day of the Sting Ray, as Sting Ray Robb adds his name to the illustrious list of Indy 500 winners.

The in-game editor. I have a database of Indy 500 drivers that I created and update every season alongside my F1 save - and I simulate the race at a track every year. Every team has an F1 team equivalent (although it's 22 rather than the 30 plus in the IRL Indy 500). I'm still trying to settle on the best track to use - I've used Monaco, Vegas, Abu Dhabi and Miami. It tends to be a mix of IndyCar drivers from IRL, and F1 drivers who have dropped off the grid on my save

#

But I only simulate the Indy 500 - I don't do a full IndyCar season or anything

#

Colton Herta and Pato O'Ward are on my F1 grid, so they don't feature, nor does anyone who's in F2 or F3

2030 GERMAN GRAND PRIX
WEEKEND PREVIEW

After eleven long years, Formula 1 finally returns to German soil, as we head to the Hockenheimring for the first time since 2019. After Charles Leclerc took a historic sixth win at his home circuit to extend his Championship advantage, what will this weekend bring us?

ROUND 8:
GERMAN GRAND PRIX
Hockenheimring, Hockenheim, Baden-Württemberg, Germany
May 31 - June 2, 2030
Length: 4.574km
Turns: 17
Laps: 67
Support Events: F2, F3, F1 Academy

LAST TIME AROUND

An eventful Monaco Grand Prix, as it turned out. Charles Leclerc and Oscar Piastri battled for most of the afternoon, and a late move down the inside five laps out saw Leclerc clinch his sixth victory on home soil, equalling Aryton Senna for most wins around the famous streets of Monte Carlo. George Russell beat out Carlos Sainz for third, while Max Verstappen's early strong start sputtered out due to engine issues. Esteban Ocon and Isack Hadjar collided, causing a Red Flag, while Colton Herta broke down in the tunnel with an engine issue and caused a Safety Car. But it was Leclerc's day, and Ferrari's long winning Streak continued.

#

THE CIRCUIT

Situated in South West Germany, near the town of Hockenheim in northwest Baden-Württemberg, about 20km South of Mannheim and 10km west of Walldorf, the Hockenheimring sees its first Formula 1 action in over a decade. With 16 turns and two DRS Zones over 67 laps, top speed and strong balance are absolutely crucial around this circuit. The original circuit was a high speed circuit that stretched for 7 miles around the German forests, featuring mostly very long straights, but has switched to a technical 4.574km circuit. The only things from the original circuit still remaining are the start finish straight, and the stadium section. The old forest section was torn off and replanted with trees. With a number of overtaking spots, the Hockenheimring had seen plenty of good racing before it left the calendar in 2019. Now it returns to its rightful place in Formula 1.

STORYLINES WE ARE WATCHING THIS WEEKEND

WITH THEIR FIRST HOME RACE IN ELEVEN YEARS, CAN MERCEDES TURN THEIR SEASON AROUND?

To say it's not been a dream season for Mercedes would be an understatement. After a promising start that saw points in the first four races, Mercedes have failed to score in the next four, finishing P11 and P12 in Monaco, but generally struggling with a difficult car concept. Oliver Bearman has had an okay start, sitting joint 11th in the Championship, however after scoring points on his debut, Paul Aron has struggled with adapting to Formula 1, with two big crash outs in Malaysia and Türkiye, as well as struggling for pace in most races - his P12 was his highest finish since Australia's debut point. But, if anything can turn around Mercedes’ struggling start to this season, it is the promise of their first home race on German soil since 2019. They will have the backing of the fans here - maybe shared a little with Audi - and are hopeful for a good result. Can Mercedes get their season back on track at their home circuit?

#

WILLIAMS, HAAS AND AUDI FIGHT FOR THE MIDFIELD

It is also a home race for Audi, even though the team still has a residence in Switzerland, due to taking over the old Sauber team, they are a German licensed team, and of course a German brand. Audi find themselves in a fight for fifth right now with Williams and Haas, who saw one of their drivers collide with each other at Monaco - Esteban Ocon and Isack Hadjar had a race ending collision, and as a result, Ocon will have a grid penalty for this race - while Audi picked up double points - Zane Maloney's P8 being his first of the season, while Pato O'Ward finished ninth. However Andrea Kimi Antonelli took an impressive P6 to put Williams back into fifth. It's still early days but Williams sit three points ahead of Haas, and six ahead of Audi, in the fight for fifth, while Subaru are well ahead for fourth with a 51 point gap. Audi will look to use their home race to continue their momentum from Monaco - could another double points finish be on the horizon?

#

IS IT ONCE AGAIN A FERRARI ONLY TITLE FIGHT?

It's somewhat unsurprising that we find both Ferrari drivers once again at the top of the Championship. A team that has dominated the sport since winning their first Constructors in 16 years back in 2024, they've won both Championships every year since, mostly handedly in the Constructors’ Championship, and only Max Verstappen's 2026 challenge has come anywhere close since he lost the title to Charles Leclerc in 2024. Leclerc has four titles since 2024, while Lewis Hamilton won 2026 and Oscar Piastri took his first title last year. Ferrari have also won every race since Saudi Arabia 2028 - a streak of 31 wins in a row either by Charles Leclerc or Oscar Piastri. Leclerc sits 11 points ahead of Piastri after his record tying sixth win in a row at home in Monaco, while Red Bull’s George Russell in third is 60 points behind Piastri, and 71 behind Leclerc. Is this another year where only the Ferraris can win and will it come down to the two of them fighting for the title again? If any of the challengers want to step up, breaking that 31 race Streak in Germany would be the start.

#

VERSTAPPEN'S CHALLENGE HIT BY ENGINE WOES

Max Verstappen looks to bounce back after a strong early start was completely curtailed by engine issues. Verstappen enters his contract season next year at Subaru, and frustration at not being able to mount a title challenge since he moved to the Japanese team is growing. Verstappen ended up P13 after running 3rd early in the race last time around, and had a frustrated interview after the race. So can Subaru turn it around, or will Verstappen be looking for the exit door from his team after next year? A lot to work on for Subaru if they want to keep their prized asset - a good result in Germany would be a start.

And so to Germany for the first time since 2019, and to the Hockenheimring. A classic of Formula 1, and one we are very excited to return to. With no rain, it should be a very entertaining race, and one thing’s for sure - you won't want to miss it.

FP1: ALEX DUNNE, DAYTON COULTHARD TO RUN FP1

Ferrari are running Scottish-Belgian driver Dayton Coulthard and Irish driver Alexander Dunne in FP1 at the Hockenheimring.

Coulthard will substitute for Championship leader Charles Leclerc, Dunne will substitute for defending World Champion Oscar Piastri.

#

FP1 Reserves: Ferrari - Coulthard (Leclerc), Dunne (Piastri), McLaren - Patricia (Gasly), Williams - Araya (Antonelli), Dimond (Hadjar), Haas - Rymill (Colapinto), Andretti - Vesti (Herta), Audi - O'Sullivan (Maloney), Aston Martin - Miní (Tsunoda)

#

FIRST PRACTICE CLASSIFICATION

George RUSSELL (Red Bull)
Lando NORRIS (McLaren)
Dayton COULTHARD (Ferrari)

Alexander DUNNE (Ferrari) - P8

Russell tops the early session ahead of Norris and Ferrari junior Coulthard, while O'Sullivan was P4 in the Audi, ahead of Verstappen and O'Ward. Sainz took P7 with Ferrari reserve Dunne in P8, Bearman P9 and Pourchaire P10.

#

Both Ferrari drivers have noted tyre wear issues being quite prevalent in this session. Something to keep an eye on over this weekend.

#

SECOND PRACTICE CLASSIFICATION

Charles LECLERC (Ferrari)
Oscar PIASTRI (Ferrari)
Carlos SAINZ (Red Bull)

Despite the issues with tyre wear on the Mediums, Leclerc goes fastest, 0.075 ahead of Piastri, with Sainz two tenths back. Norris took fourth with Antonelli P5, while Verstappen was sixth and O'Ward seventh. Tsunoda, Gasly and Colapinto all in the top ten.

#

THIRD PRACTICE CLASSIFICATION

Oscar PIASTRI (Ferrari)
George RUSSELL (Red Bull)
Charles LECLERC (Ferrari)

Piastri quickest by just 0.009 over Russell, with Leclerc 0.092 back. Norris takes Fourth with Sainz fifth, while Maloney was sixth and Colapinto seventh. Pourchaire P8, Ocon 9th, Verstappen 10th.

#

Welcome to Hockenheim, and to the return of the German Grand Prix! It is time for Qualifying here in Baden-Württemberg, and last time we raced here, Lewis Hamilton took Pole. It'll be a different Pole sitter today as the eight time Champion retired a few years ago, but who will take on the mantle today?

#

Maloney with a spin at Sachs, but he was on his outlap. He's been able to put it 11th, but will that compromise his chances?

#

Just 15th for Verstappen. Antonelli, Tsunoda and Gasly in the relegation zone, with Herta, Pérez and Ricciardo. Staněk on the bubble. Can anyone get themselves out of the bottom six?

#

Antonelli goes sixth and safe. Verstappen at risk. Staněk is out and Tsunoda doesn't improve, he's also out. Verstappen second and we'll safe, but none of the rest improve!

#

Q1 ELIMINATIONS

Roman STANĚK (Alpine)
Yuki TSUNODA (Aston Martin)
Pierre GASLY (McLaren)
Colton HERTA (Andretti)
Sergio PÉREZ (Alpine)
Daniel RICCIARDO (Andretti)

Bubble - Franco COLAPINTO (Haas)

Top Five: Piastri, Verstappen, Sainz, Leclerc, Norris

#

Verstappen in the bottom six after the first runs of Q2. Leclerc didn't have a great one and is in P8 almost 6 tenths off his teammate, sitting P1. Sainz below Verstappen, Pourchaire, Aron, Antonelli and Maloney in the dropzone. Hadjar at risk.

#

Leclerc now at risk and Sainz goes P2 to send him into the bottom six, but Leclerc puts it second and he's safe. O'Ward and Colapinto on fliers. VERSTAPPEN DROPS INTO THE BOTTOM SIX AND CAN'T IMPROVE. HE IS OUT. O'Ward improves, Bearman drops into the bottom six and both Mercs are out in Q2 in the team's home race!!

#

Q2 ELIMINATIONS

Oliver BEARMAN (Mercedes)
Franco COLAPINTO (Haas)
Isack HADJAR (Williams)
Max VERSTAPPEN (Subaru)
Paul ARON (Mercedes)
Zane MALONEY (Audi)

Bubble- Théo POURCHAIRE (Subaru)

Into Q3: Piastri, Leclerc, Ocon, Sainz, Norris, Russell, O'Ward, Antonelli, Bottas, Pourchaire

#

After the first Q3 runs - Leclerc quickest, but by just 0.015 ahead of Sainz, with Piastri third. O'Ward fourth, Ocon fifth. Pourchaire, Norris, Bottas and Antonelli follow. Russell seems to be having some issues with his car so hasn't put a lap in yet.

#

Bottas goes fifth. Sainz hasn't improved, so he stays second - for now. Neither Piastri nor Leclerc improve in S1, Pourchaire going well, Pourchaire up to P5! Piastri needs to go some here AND HE FOUND SOMETHING, HE TAKES P1. WHAT A THIRD SECTOR. Leclerc improved but not by enough, Piastri by 0.142! Ocon up to P6 which will drop him to 9th with the penalty, Norris goes Fourth, Antonelli 6th, so Ocon 8th and drops to P11! But it is Pole FOUR for Oscar Piastri this season!

#

Q3 CLASSIFICATION

Oscar PIASTRI (Ferrari) - POLE
Charles LECLERC (Ferrari)
Carlos SAINZ (Red Bull)
Lando NORRIS (McLaren)
Pato O'WARD (Audi)
Andrea Kimi ANTONELLI (Williams)
Théo POURCHAIRE (Subaru)
Esteban OCON (Haas) - Grid Penalty
Valtteri BOTTAS (Aston Martin)
George RUSSELL (Red Bull) - no time

#

Well, a moment of magic in that third sector gave Oscar Piastri Pole. Can he turn it into his fourth win of the season here in Germany?

#

GEORGE RUSSELL TO START FROM PITLANE

Red Bull's George Russell will start Sunday's German Grand Prix from the pitlane.

Russell, who ironically never drove in Germany for his former team Mercedes, failed to get a lap in during Q3 due to a hydraulics leak from his Red Bull car.

Therefore as a result, a components change broke parc ferme and he will have to start from the pitlane.

It is a grand old return at Hockenheim, and time to go racing here in Germany for the first time since 2019! Round 8 of the 2030 Formula 1 World Championship and 67 laps of this 4.574km circuit await us, 17 turns, 2 DRS Zones, it may well be ripe for overtaking throughout the afternoon.

#

George Russell starts from the pitlane, which means Daniel Ricciardo is alone on the back row, Sergio Perez and Colton Herta start on row ten. Old friends and former teammates Yuki Tsunoda and Pierre Gasly start together on row nine, Roman Staněk starts 16th and Zane Maloney 15th. Rookie Paul Aron starts alongside former World Champion Max Verstappen, then it's Isack Hadjar and Esteban Ocon, who collided at Monaco, on row six. Ocon takes a grid penalty for that incident. Franco Colapinto starts just ahead of his teammate and alongside Ollie Bearman who's 9th in Mercedes' home race. Valtteri Bottas and Théo Pourchaire line up on row four, then it's Kimi Antonelli P6 and 5th for Pato O'Ward, his highest start since Melbourne. Lando Norris lines up 4th with Carlos Sainz 3rd, and Ferrari lock out the front row again - Championship leader Charles Leclerc in second, defending Champion Oscar Piastri has Pole number four of the season.

#

Let's race in Germany!

#

One light, two, three, four, five...AND IT'S LIGHTS OUT AND AWAY WE GO!!

#

Piastri away well, but Sainz has gotten Leclerc at the start here! O'Ward moves up to fourth ahead of Norris, then Antonelli, Bottas and Pourchaire, Bearman P9, Ocon gets teammate Colapinto for 10th!!

#

SAINZ GOING FOR THE LEAD EARLY INTO LAP 1 AND SAINZ TAKES THE LEAD OF THIS RACE! WOW!

#

As we enter the second lap here, Ocon overtakes Bearman and he's up to P9, Verstappen now into 11th ahead of Folapinto. Pourchaire overtakes Bottas for 7th!

#

Piastri with a lovely overtake to retake P1!!

#

(BON) "This is awesome work Oscar, keep up this level of pace"

#

(LEC) "I'm struggling so much with pace, so much"

(BOZ) "Keep your head up and keep at it, long way to go in this race"

#

Leclerc now putting some pace on and is within DRS again of Piastri and Sainz!

Norris overtakes O'Ward and he's up to P4!

Pourchaire ahead of Antonelli and the Subaru is into sixth!

#

Verstappen gets Bearman for P10 and is into the points!

#

Leclerc putting the pressure on Sainz, he sees the opportunity and gets the overtake down, he's up back into P2!

#

Antonelli under pressure from Verstappen, Verstappen takes P8!

#

PITSTOP: A VERY EARLY stop by O'Ward, and Antonelli follows him in! Both going onto the Hards and it is a big ask to go all the way to the end - this is likely a two stopper! O'Ward rejoins P18, Antonelli P19. Ricciardo also in and he takes Softs - a definite, minimum two stopper.

#

PITSTOPS: Maloney, Aron, Russell and Gasly all in on Lap 11, Aron has a slight delay due to cars being released and he's down to P20!

#

Verstappen moves ahead of Bottas into P7!

#

Lap 12: Piastri, Leclerc, Norris, Sainz, Ocon, Pourchaire, Verstappen, Bottas, Bearman, Hadjar, Colapinto, Tsunoda, O'Ward, Pérez, Antonelli, Herta, Maloney, Staněk, Russell, Aron, Gasly, Ricciardo

#

PITSTOPS: Norris and Sainz both in! Sainz jumps ahead of Norris in the pitlane as Red Bull were quicker than McLaren on that stop!

#

Long way to go, but Esteban Ocon is currently running P3.

#

PITSTOPS: Bottas and Colapinto both stop. Bottas onto the Hards, Colapinto onto the Softs.

#

PITSTOP: Verstappen in from 5th, he's onto the Softs, and rejoins P13, crucially ahead of Bottas and Russell!!

#

PITSTOP: Pourchaire in the lap after his teammate! He also takes the Softs and rejoins P10 - two spots ahead of Verstappen! Pérez currently splits the Subarus.

#

(BON) "Box, box"

(PIA) "Yep. Box."

#

(BOZ) "Box now, Box, box"

(LEC) "Copy, box"

#

PITSTOPS: Lap 18 and Ferrari are DOUBLE STACKING AND THEY DO IT TO PERFECTION!!! 2.073 for Piastri who leaves the box just as Leclerc comes into it for a 2.2 stop!! Incredible work from the Ferrari pit crew!

#

SAINZ GOES WIDE!!! He ran very wide and that hands P2 back to Leclerc!

#

(LEC) "Was that Carlos?"

(BOZ) "Yes, he went off, he's ok and back on track. You're now P2"

#

TSUNODA GOING FOR THE OVERTAKE AND HITS STANĚK!!! Both go off and both have damage from that collision!!

#

PENALTY - CAR 22 (TSUNODA) - CAUSING A COLLISION WITH CAR 25 (STANĚK)

Disaster for Tsunoda and Aston, as he lands a five second penalty for that incident.

#

PITSTOP: An enforced second stop for Staněk, as he takes on new tyres. He returns and has now been lapped.

#

PITSTOP: Sainz pitting again for Mediums - are Red Bull attempting a three stopper here? That's a long way to go on those Mediums.

#

Sainz once again up to P8 as he overtakes Verstappen, who is struggling with his car once again.

#

PITSTOP: Tyrewear proving to be a massive issue as Pourchaire pits for the second time - and takes on Softs. Bold.

#

Lap 27: Piastri, Leclerc, Norris, Ocon, O'Ward, Antonelli, Sainz, Verstappen, Bottas, Russell, Colapinto, Bearman, Maloney, Hadjar, Gasly, Pourchaire, Aron, Tsunoda, Pérez, Ricciardo, Herta, Staněk

#

(BON) "Update your tyre switch, please Oscar?"

(PIA) "Feel okay so far. Could switch to Plan B?"

(BON) "We'll check what's the optimum, but we can do it if you're confident of it."

#

PITSTOPS: Verstappen, Colapinto and Maloney all pit. Verstappen onto the Hards, Colapinto takes the Softs. Maloney also onto the Softs.

#

PITSTOP: Norris in for fresh Softs. A lot of teams seemingly committing to the three stopper today.

#

Piastri just lapped Paul Aron on Lap 33.

Aron is 14th.

#

PITSTOP: Ocon in on Lap 35, and he's onto the Hards. With 32 laps left, could that be him to the end? You'd expect so. He rejoins P7.

#

Piastri 12 seconds up on Leclerc, aho himself is 23 and a half ahead of Norris for P2 and P3.

#

(BON) "Box box, box box"

(PIA) "Copy, box"

#

PITSTOP: Piastri in on Lap 40 for the Hards, no double stack from Ferrari this time so Leclerc takes the lead. A 2.267 stop from Ferrari and no issues as he rejoins P2.

#

(BOZ) "And box, box. Box this lap."

(LEC) "Copy, box."

#

PITSTOP: Leclerc in from the lead which will hand it back to Piastri - a lovely 1.912 stop however will see him comfortably retain P2!

#

(BON) "Think about the management. Increase it just a fraction."

(PIA) "Copy."

#

PITSTOPS: Third stops of the day for Sainz and Pourchaire - both take on the Hards, which will almost certainly see them to the end of the race.

#

For the record - only Valtteri Bottas has only pit once today. Everyone else has pit a minimum of twice. Sainz, Pourchaire, Russell, Gasly and Maloney have all had three pitstops.

PITSTOP: Speaking of which, Norris is in for the third time today. The McLaren switches onto the Hards and concedes P3 to Ocon. He rejoins P5. Bottas in for his second stop today and takes the Mediums - will those go to the end?

#

PITSTOP: Tsunoda in to take his penalty, and when the team put fresh Hards on, he has a further delay!!

#

FASTEST LAP - NORRIS

Norris closing in on Ocon for P3 - just three seconds between them now.

#

(BON) "Tyre temps have stabilised. Currently P1, gap is 13 seconds. Charles behind in P2."

(PIA) "Yeah, copy."

#

Norris with the overtake on Ocon, and sadly, Haas podium may be delayed another day!

#

Lap 52: Piastri, Leclerc, Norris, Ocon, Antonelli, Sainz, O'Ward, Verstappen, Russell, Pourchaire, Bearman, Bottas, Hadjar, Gasly, Maloney, Colapinto, Tsunoda, Aron, Pérez, Herta, Staněk, Ricciardo

#

PITSTOP: A late stop for Verstappen, and Subaru have...opted for Mediums. A choice. Definitely a choice.

#

PITSTOP: Antonelli also stopping late here! Williams have fresh Softs though so they put him onto them, just in time to return to be lapped by Piastri.

#

Antonelli looks to unlap himself, so Piastri is now trying to break away from a driver who is a lap down. That's about the extent of how this race is going.

Antonelli is P7, BTW. This has been dominant by Piastri.

#

Piastri laps Russell - running P6, who now has Antonelli to deal with in a separate battle.

#

VSC HAS BEEN CALLED!!! CARLOS SAINZ IN THE BARRIER!!!

#

(BON) "VSC. Sainz in the wall. He's okay, he's unhurt."

(PIA) "Copy, glad he is okay. Can we box for Softs?"

(BON) "Yeah, box now."

#

(BOZ) "And VSC. Carlos out."

(LEC) "Is Carlos okay?"

(BOZ) "Yes Charles, he's OK. He crashed out but he's walked away OK."

(LEC) "Glad he's okay. Can we box for fastest lap?"

(BOZ) "We can, box now."

#

PITSTOPS: Both Ferraris having the same idea - boxing for Softs. A 1.955 stop for Piastri, 2.242 for Leclerc. Both onto Softs and both will be aiming for that fastest lap point. Both retain P1 and P2.

#

Those pitstops unlapped Russell, Antonelli, O'Ward and Pourchaire, BTW.

#

FINAL LAP

#

It has been an absolutely dominant display from Oscar Piastri, who will take his fourth win of the season and close the Championship gap, OSCAR PIASTRI CROSSES THE LINE TO WIN THE GERMAN GRAND PRIX IN CONVINCING FASHION!!!

#

(BON) "And P1, P1! Awesome job, Oscar. Simply awesome today. Incredible job."

(PIA) "Very nicely done, everyone! That was really fun, very very very nice. The car was fantastic, pleasure to drive, and uh, yeah, great job everyone. Very nicely done."

(BON) "Incredible job. Championship is far from over, let's keep pushing."

#

FASTEST LAP - LECLERC

Oh how crucial could that be at the end of the season? A two point swing for the former Champion as he snatches fastest lap away on the final lap!

#

(BOZ) "And P2, P2, Charles! You did get fastest lap at the end, so nice work today. Well managed and well driven."

(LEC) "Nice. What a race and what a pace. Nice to get that point at the end. Thanks guys. Long way to go, let's keep pushing."

(BOZ) "We'll keep pushing and come back stronger at Silverstone."

#

Norris takes the podium, an incredible effort from Ocon for P4, Russell fifth and Antonelli sixth. Only ones to finish on the lead lap. O'Ward, Pourchaire, Verstappen and Bottas all score points.

BRITISH GRAND PRIX 2030
WEEKEND PREVIEW

We head to Silverstone for Round 9 of the 2030 Formula 1 season, and it is time for the second Sprint of this year. What will the hone of the original Formula 1 Grand Prix bring us this season?

ROUND 9:
BRITISH GRAND PRIX
Silverstone Circuit, Silverstone, Northamptonshire, England
June 21 - 23, 2030
Length: 5.891km
Turns: 18
Laps: 52
Support Events: F1 Sprint Weekend, F2, F3

#

LAST TIME AROUND

Oscar Piastri struck back at the German Grand Prix to take his fourth win of the season in comfortable fashion ahead of Charles Leclerc, reducing the Championship gap to just three points at this point in the season. Leclerc was 17 seconds behind in second, while Lando Norris took another McLaren podium. A phenomenal result saw Esteban Ocon take fourth for Haas while George Russell was fifth, Andrea Kimi Antonelli secured sixth and a much needed boost for Williams, while Pato O’Ward secured Audi 7th on the team’s home soil. Subaru took double points with 8th for Théo Pourchaire and 9th for Max Verstappen, Valtteri Bottas got his second point of the season in 10th.

#

THE CIRCUIT

It is the 80th Anniversary of the original first Formula 1 World Championship race, held right here at Silverstone. Having been on the calendar since 1950, the British Grand Prix has remained part of the calendar ever since, and along with the Italian Grand Prix, is one of two Formula 1 races that has been held every single year. Silverstone has been the only home to the British Grand Prix since 1987, having first held the race before the days of the F1 World Championship back in 1948. It rotated with Aintree and then Brands Hatch over the years until taking over permanently 43 years ago. The 5.891km circuit is home to some of the most famous F1 corners of the season, including Copse and that run down to Stowe at turn 1. There is also the Hamilton straight, of course named for now retired Eight Time World Champion Lewis Hamilton, who took victory here back in 2026 for the tenth and final time. 2 DRS Zones and plenty of overtaking opportunities makes this a real highlight of the calendar.

STORYLINES WE ARE WATCHING THIS WEEKEND

COULD WE SEE A HOME VICTORY THIS WEEKEND?

Ferrari's Streak of wins continued this weekend, extending to 32 after the 2030 German Grand Prix. Going all the way back to Saudi Arabia 2028 when Max Verstappen won for Subaru, the race winner since has either been Charles Leclerc or Oscar Piastri. But the home fans have high hopes for Lando Norris, George Russell and Oliver Bearman this weekend, as the three English drivers look to secure a win for McLaren, Red Bull or Mercedes respectively this weekend. Norris or Russell could very much be in contention though, with Norris taking his third podium in Germany, while Russell has four this year - the most of any non Ferrari driver. Bearman meanwhile will hope for a boost after a tough season with Mercedes so far. Can any of the three English drivers on the grid delight the home fans and bring home the win?

#

HOW WILL THE HOME TEAMS DO THIS WEEKEND?

Speaking of home, it is the home race for McLaren, Williams and Aston Martin, while Mercedes, Red Bull, Haas, Alpine and Andretti all have ties here with a team base on this island. However, we are focusing on the three home sides - McLaren, Williams and Aston. We have talked about Lando Norris’ chances, but McLaren as a whole may fancy good points with Pierre Gasly, who could do with a good result this weekend. It has been a tough start to the season for Aston Martin, but Valtteri Bottas has scored points in the last two races so they hope they may be turning it around, and Yuku Tsunoda will look for a better result than he's been having lately. And for Williams, Andrea Kimi Antonelli has been having a very solid season, sitting seventh in the Championship, while Isack Hadjar has had several near misses for the points - could this weekend finally be the one where he hits paydirt?

#

THE FERRARI TITLE FIGHT CONTINUES

It is just three points between Charles Leclerc and Oscar Piastri in the title fight, and with George Russell 78 points behind Leclerc, it may well be once again down to the two Ferrari drivers. Piastri had a dominant performance in Germany, signalling his intentions of retaining his Championship, but before that, Leclerc had won the last three, including his home race of Monaco for the sixth time. This could be a vital weekend for both, even this early. With a rainy Sprint Qualifying expected and the Sprint itself, who will take the momentum from this British Grand Prix weekend, Leclerc or Piastri?

And so to Silverstone and the ninth Round of this 2030 Formula 1 World Championship. Rain is expected for the Sprint, but it's going to be a dry weekend elsewhere. And as always, anything can happen at Silverstone. One thing's for sure - you won't want to miss it.

#

FP1 Reserves: Red Bull - Grant (Sainz), Andretti - Vesti (Herta), Gademan (Ricciardo), Aston Martin - Miní (Tsunoda)

#

FREE PRACTICE 1 CLASSIFICATION

Charles LECLERC (Ferrari)
Lando NORRIS (McLaren)

Leclerc quickest in FP1 and Piastri third, while home hero Norris splits the two. Mini took an impressive P4 for Aston ahead of Maloneg, whole Hadjar was sixth and Verstappen seventh. Antonelli, Russell and Ocon complete the top ten, Grant just misses out in eleventh.

#

It's the first competitive action of the weekend as we go Sprint Qualifying at Silverstone! And with the rain on, this could be anyone's game. Ferrari remain favourites this weekend but there's high hopes for Norris, Russell and Bearman on home soil. What will this session bring us?

#

Essentially will be a one-shot Qualifying with the weather as it is here.

#

The rain and traffic playing havoc, and it is disaster for Haas who see both drivers exit! Stanek and Pérez also both out for Alpine, Ricciardo and Maloney join them.

Gasly quickest from O'Ward! Norris looked on for quickest but hit traffic, as did Leclerc and Piastri. Good start for Aston in third for Tsunoda and fourth for Bottas!

#

It's a beautiful Saturday lunchtime at Silverstone...let's go Sprinting, shall we? 17 laps of this famous 5.891km around this former airfield, and a somewhat surprising Sprint Pole for Lando Norris, but a very popular one around these parts. The two Ferraris are lurking right behind though, the McLaren driver will have a fight on his hands today.

#

Zane Maloney and Franco Colapinto start the Sprint on the back row, then it's Sergio Pérez, and somewhat surprisingly, Esteban Ocon, once upon a time, teammates, on row ten. Roman Staněk and Daniel Ricciardo are on the ninth row, Carlos Sainz spun out of Sprint Qualifying in SQ2 and he's 16th with Colton Herta 15th. Two Mercedes and two Astons on the next two rows, Paul Aron starts 14th with Valtteri Bottas 13th, it's Yuki Tsunoda 12th and Ollie Bearman starts his home Sprint 11th. The two Subarus on row five with Théo Pourchaire just behind Max Verstappen, Kimi Antonelli joins Pierre Gasly on row four, then it's sixth for Isack Hadjar who has a real chance at points here, George Russell lines up 5th. Pato O'Ward starts from 4th with World Champion Oscar Piastri 3rd, Championship leader Charles Leclerc is just ahead of his teammate, and it is Sprint Pole on home soil for Lando Norris, but can he make it count?

#

Let's Sprint!

#

The cars slotting round on the formation lap here. No rain expected, so we go for the Sprint here and now.

#

One light...Two, three, four, five...AND IT'S LIGHTS OUT AND AWAY WE GO

#

Leclerc has gotten a much better start than Norris and Leclerc takes the lead off Norris at the start!!! Piastri battling O'Ward for P3, Russell next, then Verstappen is up to fifth already, Bearman has gotten a fantastic start, BOTH WILLIAMS IN TROUBLE, HADJAR IS OFF, ANTONELLI IS OFF, Bearman is into the top seven!!

#

(BOZ) "This is a fantastic pace Charles, 2.1 over Norris right now."

#

Piastri now pushing for P2 and Oscar Piastri takes second off Norris, and it is once again a Ferrari 1-2 at the front!

#

(B0N) "Great job on P2. Now push and see if you can get that gap down."

#

Piastri closing the gap to Leclerc and this is an important two point swing in the title race!

#

PATO O'WARD UP TO P3 AHEAD OF NORRIS!!! O'Ward overtakes the man who replaced him at McLaren!

#

FASTEST LAP - PIASTRI

#

Norris retakes P3 from O'Ward!!

#

Hadjar spins off in P19!!! It has been a heartbreaking nightmare of a day for him so far!!

#

PIASTRI GOES INTO THE LEAD! WHAT A MOVE THAT WAS!

#

Ten laps of this Sprint to go, neither Ferrari has really run away with it here, O'Ward, Norris, Russell and Verstappen still very much in play.

#

Leclerc retakes the lead. O'Ward goes back ahead of Norris!

#

Norris struggling as Russell and Verstappen overtake him!

#

OH MY GOD. O'WARD GOES DOWN THE INSIFE OF BOTH FERRARIS AND GRABS THE LEAD OF THIS RACE!!! WOW, WOW, WOW!!!!

#

(BOZ) "So O'Ward gaining, now 2.5."

(LEC) "Oh my God. Where did Audi's pace come from?"

#

Pato O'Ward has just gone tearing down the road and we could be on for a real stunner at the Silverstone Sprint!

#

PITSTOP: A rare Sprint stop. Isack Hadjar pits for Softs, having wrecked his previous tyres in that spin.

#

Piastri holding P2 over Leclerc who goes for it again, but O'Ward's lead continues to grow! This could be a HUGE upset this afternoon!

#

The Ferraris are struggling!!! Norris slips ahead of Leclerc, then Piastri, and he takes P2!!

#

THE FERRARIS ARE REALLY STRUGGLING. Russell slips ahead of Leclerc, then Piastri!!!

#

NORRIS CLOSING IN ON O'WARD, ANS TAKES THE LEAD OF THE SPIRNT TO A MASSIVE CHEER FROM THE CROWD!!!

#

Piastri gets Russell for P3!

#

Norris now holding off O'Ward, just, O'Ward might get one more try with DRS, but Norris defends him! Leclerc takes P4 from Russell!

#

AND TO THE ROAR OF THE FANS AT SILVERSTONE, LANDO NORRIS WINS THE BRITISH SPRINT!!! O'WARD P2, LECLERC GETS PIASTRI AT THE LINE FOR THIRD!! PIASTRI FOURTH, RUSSELL FIFTH, TSUNODA 6TH, VERSTAPPEN P7 AND POURCHAIRE P8.

#

(BOZ) "So P3, P3. Tough going but still a Sprint podium."

(LEC) "Yeah. The tyres were difficult, but management, incredible. Damage limiation and we will take it. Good job guys."

(BOZ) "Good job out there, let's get a better result tomorrow."

#

(BON) "And so that's the flag. P4, Oscar."

(PIA) "Uh, yeah, difficult one that. Pace wasn't there. Don't think there was too much more we could have done there, so uh, yeah, thank tou very much."

(BON) "Good effort mate, head up and we'll get going with qualifying."

It's time for Qualifying here at Silverstone, and after Lando Norris' sensational Sprint victory, what will Qualifying itself bring us? Is there real potential of Ferrari's 32 race Streak being broken this weekend? Can Lando do it again, will O'Ward step up, or could it be a Red Bull, Mercedes or Subaru challenge? Or will Ferrari step up and keep the Streak going? We start to find out here with qualifying here on this Saturday at Silverstone.

#

Norris didn't have a good first run, and the Sprint Winner is in the bottom six right now, alongside the two Andrettis, the two Alpines, and Paul Aron.

Ferrari did their first run on Mediums and sit P4 and P8.

Sainz quickest right now, Russell third, O'Ward splits them.

#

Staněk goes 17th and he's likely out. Notris isn't improving on the first sector! He needs to find something. Piastri quickest through S1, Leclerc also improving

#

Piastri now has some company! Sainz and O'Ward have closed the gap and Sainz is going for the lead, Piastri fends him off for now!!

#

PIASTRI RETAKES THE LEAD! That was a brilliant move and he's back in front of this race!

#

PITSTOPS: Williams have double stacked Antonelli and Hadjar, and quite frankly, they've done it brilliantly. Antonelli leaves the garage as Hadjar goes into it. Two quick stops. Credit where credit's due. Antonelli onto Mediums, Hadjar onto Hards. P14 and P15.

#

PITSTOP: Verstappen in and onto the Hards. Looks like Subaru are going for the one-stopper. He rejoins P17.

#

Verstappen makes light work of Norris to gain position on him. Norris really struggling with his gearbox.

#

Leclerc now closing on Ocon for P4. With Piastri now 3 seconds in front and likely to go top of the table, this is damage limitation for the Monegasque driver.

#

PITSTOPS: An early second stop for Pato O'Ward! He's onto the Mediums and this is bold, will they last those laps? Bearman taking the same gamble, Staněk in as well to do the same.

#

PITSTOP: Sainz responding to O'Ward and potentially trying to undercut Piastri on Lap 33! He also takes the Mediums!

#

(LEC) "Can we switch to Plan C? I think I can make that work better"

(BOZ) "We're looking into it but yeah I think we can make that work."

#

FASTEST LAP - ANTONELLI

#

(BON) "Box box, Oscar. Box box."

(PIA) "Copy, box."

#

FASTEST LAP - SAINZ

#

PITSTOP: Piastri in from the lead for his second stop, a 2.277 stop, and Ocon takes the lead!! Piastri now rejoins behind teammate Leclerc in P3, but crucially ahead of Sainz, just though!

#

(BOZ) "Plan C, Plan C. Box, box."

(LEC) "Copy, box."

#

PITSTOP: Leclerc is in from P2, and looks like Plan C is a switch to the Softs for the last 15!! Ocon keeps the lead, Piastri up to 2nd. Leclerc has a 2.169 stop, rejoining P8, just ahead of Pourchaire!

#

O'WARD OVERTAKES SAINZ! Piastri has some work to do to hold off the surging Audi!

Leclerc moves ahead of Gasly, he's back into P7!

#

MALONEY MAKES CONTACT WITH VERSTAPPEN!!! Both cars have damage off that, and Verstappen is furious on the radio!

#

PENALTY - CAR 72 (MALONEY) - CAUSING A COLLISION WITH CAR 33 (VERSTAPPEN) - 5 SECONDS

#

Maloney does indeed land a penalty for that collision with Verstappen.

PIASTRI RETAKES THE LEAD! A lovely move to get Ocon for position! Ocon is likely to pit again, however.

Leclerc overtakes Russell and he's up to P6!

#

PITSTOP: Ocon comes in from P2, and he takes Mediums, Russell also in at this late stage and he goes onto the Softs.

#

FASTEST LAP - OCON

#

Ocon ahead of Antonelli, and on the fresher tyres, is now putting Leclerc under pressure for P4!

#

O'WARD IS BACK INTO P2! Five seconds down on Piastri though, can he make the biggest shock in F1 in a long time happen?

#

COLAPINTO SPINS OFF!! That costs him just one place, he's down to P17!

#

FASTEST LAP - COLAPINTO

#

Five laps remaining. Maloney is 1.5 ahead of Gasly but with a five second penalty, which would relegate him outside of the points as it stands.

#

PAUL ARON SPINS OFF AT VALE!! Another disaster for him at Mercedes. Has been a tough opening season for the Estonian.

#

Russell ahead of Hadjar for P7, but he's having gearbox issues!

#

Two laps remaining! Leclerc still trying to fight off Ocon for P4!

#

SAINZ GETS O'WARD FOR P2!

#

FINAL LAP

#

It's been a confident and assured performance from Oscar Piastri this weekend, he's going back top of the Championship table with his fifth win of the season, a superb drive, Oscar Piastri rounds Stowe and Vale, enters the Hamilton Straight TO WIN THE BRITISH GRAND PRIX!!

#

(BON) "And P1, Oscar, brilliant job! Brilliant drive, this garage has just gone mental mate. Amazing drive."

(PIA) "Mega mega mega. Well, thank you very much everybody! Uh, yeah, enjoyed that I'd say! This car is phenomenal and I'm very lucky to drive it, but yeah, amazing job by the team. Thank you very much, guys."

(BON) "We're lucky to have you mate. Excellent job."

#

SAINZ HOLDING OFF O'WARD BUT LECLERC IS CHARGING BEHIND THEM!!! HE'S CLOSING THE GAP BUT HE'LL RUN OUT OF LAPS!! SAINZ P2, O'WARD P3, LECLERC P4.

#

(BOZ) "And that's the flag Charles, so P4. Great effort considering where we started today."

(LEC) "Yeah, good job guys. Aaahh, if we only had a couple more laps we could've gotten P2, but, yeah, good job. Damage was done yesterday, we did our best to limit that, but yeah, it's like this. We'll pick ourselves up in Austria and go again."

(BOZ) "Long way to go this season. Keep the head up."

#

Ocon P5, Antonelli P6, Russell P7, Bearman P8, Hadjar gets his first points of the season in P9! Gasly P10.

DRIVER OF THE DAY: CHARLES LECLERC

The four time Champion had a rough qualifying, ending up P13, but recovered brilliantly to take P4, and had he had a couple more laps, may have gotten a podium. Damage limitation but a brilliant drive, and a deserved Driver of the Day!

Top 5: Leclerc (Ferrari), O'Ward (Audi), Ocon (Haas), Bearman (Mercedes), Piastri (Ferrari)

AUSTRIAN GRAND PRIX 2030
WEEKEND PREVIEW

And so to Round 10 and to Spielberg, as we head towards the mid-season point of the 2030 Formula 1 season, and Ferrari's undefeated Streak has now extended to 33 races. At the home of Red Bull Racing, will that continue or will it be broken?

ROUND 10:
AUSTRIAN GRAND PRIX
Red Bull Ring, Spielberg, Styria, Austria
June 28 - 30, 2030
Length: 4.326km
Turns: 10
Laps: 71
Support Events: F2, F3

#

LAST TIME AROUND

The main joy for home fans was Lando Norris' superb Sprint victory, beating out the challenge of the two Ferraris, with Pato O'Ward in second and Charles Leclerc beating out Oscar Piastri for third. Qualifying brought the drama however as Norris exited in Q1, Leclerc, Max Verstappen and George Russell all went out in Q2, and Oscar Piastri took Pole from Carlos Sainz at the very end. Piastri would go on to win comfortably, while Sainz and O'Ward were on the podium, and Leclerc recovered from P13 on the grid to take fourth. Esteban Ocon was fifth, with Kimi Antonelli just ahead of Russell, Ollie Bearman securing P8 on home soil, Isack Hadjar taking his first points of the year, and Pierre Gasly finishing Tenth.

#

THE CIRCUIT

One of the shortest laps of the season, the Red Bull Ring, located in the Green Hills of Austria, near Spielberg in Styria. Founded as the Österreichring, and hosted the Austrian Grand Prix from 1970 to 1987, this circuit then found itself returning to the calendar as the A1 Ring between 1997 and 2003. After 11 years off the calendar, the race returned once more under its current name, the Red Bull Ring, in 2014 and has remained on the calendar ever since. It hosted two races in 2020 and 2021, adding the Styrian Grand Prix to the Austrian Grand Prix due to the shortened calendar and other races having to be cancelled, and was the opening race of the shortened 2020 season, taking the place of Australia as the opener. The current layout sits at 4.318km, with ten corners and three DRS Zones. With a good mix of low and high speed corners, this circuit features a lot of overtaking opportunities.

#

STORYLINES WE ARE WATCHING THIS WEEKEND

RED BULL'S HOME GAME

Red Bull come into this race at home having not won a race on a Sunday since Belgium 2028 - approaching almost two years ago now. With a car that has been struggling in the corners all season long, they're bringing major upgrades with the aims of getting their first win since Carlos Sainz won that day at Spa. They'll have the backing of the crowd here in Spielburg, but James Vowles’ team looks to put a foot down to challenge Ferrari this weekend for the win. Can they take the fight to the Scuderia and potentially break that 33 race streak?

#

PIASTRI ON TOP OF THE CHAMPIONSHIP AGAIN

After Oscar Piastri took his fifth win of the season at Silverstone, he took the Championship lead back from Charles Leclerc, and is now leading his Ferrari teammate by 9 points after Leclerc finished P4 at Silverstone, having recovered from a Q2 exit. With Piastri having five wins to Leclerc's four, the Australian, the defending Champion, looks to bounce back from a difficult weekend last time around. But can Leclerc take the fight back to Piastri in the Championship battle this weekend?

#

CAN THE BOTTOM TWO SCORE ANY POINTS?

With Audi, Williams and Haas locked in a fight for fifth and separated by a single point, and Aston Martin and Mercedes tied for eight, two teams and four drivers have still yet to hit the scoreboard this season - the two Andretti and two Alpine drivers. It is a massive ask and one that seems like it may not see a result for either team this weekend, but in Formula 1, you never know. Could Alpine or Andretti spring a surprise this time around? With the rain coming on the Sunday, the great leveller in Formula 1, you just never know.

And so to Spielberg and Round 10 - what will Red Bull's home race bring us this weekend? One thing's for sure - you won't want to miss it.

#

Gonna run Coulthard and Dunne in FP1

#

#

VSC IN FP3

Tsunoda in the wall!!! He spins off and hits the barrier! An awful season for him continues. He's OK, but Aston have some work to do before Qualifying!

#

THIRD PRACTICE CLASSIFICATION

Esteban OCON (Haas)
Lando NORRIS (McLaren)
Pato O'WARD (Audi)

Charles LECLERC (Ferrari) P4, Oscar PIASTRI (Ferrari) P11

#

It is time to go Qualifying here in the Green Hills of Spielberg, Austria, and could one of the all time F1 shocks be on? Haas have arguably looked quickest this weekend so far, could we see an Esteban Ocon or Franco Colapinto Pole? Ferrari still remain favourites, Red Bull have their support and you cannot count out McLaren either, but this could be fascinating here.

#

Norris in the bottom six after the first runs, alongside Tsunoda, Maloney, Herta, Ricciardo and Staněk. Pérez on the bubble. Sainz quickest so far, Piastri, Gasly, Russell and Leclerc follow.

#

Maloney 11th, Pérez into the dropzone, Aron on the brink. Staněk goes 15th, Aron into the dropzone, Antonelli at risk, Norris goes 11th! Will that be enough?

#

Ricciardo is out. Staněk at risk, Herta goes 19th, he's out. Neither Pérez nor Tsunoda are improving yet...Antonelli goes 4th!! Stanek out. Perez doesn't improve, Tsunoda stays 21st and he's out!

As the World Cup continues on, we have a big day ourselves in the battle to be World Champion of our sport. Round 10 of the 2030 Formula 1 World Championship, and we head to the Red Bull Ring in Austria, where 71 laps of this 4.326km circuit awaits us, just 10 turns, one of the shortest laps of the season. 3 DRS Zones, but we may not see much of those today with the rain absolutely pelting down here. Expected to be a fully wet race here, every team on Ints to start, but will we see those blue tyres too?

#

Zane Maloney and Valtteri Bottas begin from the pitlane, so it's Daniel Ricciardo and Yuki Tsunoda on the defacto back row. Sergio Pérez starts 18th with Colton Herta alongside him, then it's the two rookies, Roman Staněk and Paul Aron on row eight. Ollie Bearman starts 14th with Théo Pourchaire down in 13th, and then it's the two Williams, Kimi Antonelli just ahead of Isack Hadjar. Franco Colapinto starts 10th alongside former Red Bull man Max Verstappen in 9th, Pierre Gasly, also former Red Bull, is 8th alongside compatriot Esteban Ocon, Lando Norris, another former Red Bull driver, starts 6th with Pato O'Ward 5th. The two current Red Bulls and two Ferraris are on the front two rows, Carlos Sainz begins for Red Bull in 4th alongside World Champion Oscar Piastri in 3rd, Charles Leclerc starts just ahead of his teammate, and it is the first Pole of the season for George Russell, around his team's eponymous circuit.

#

Let's race in Spielburg!

#

A lot of water on the circuit here. Cars slotting into place on the grid...

#

One light, two, three, four, five...AND IT'S LIGHTS OUT AND AWAY WE GO

#

Russell is away well, Piastri gets ahead of teammate Leclerc at the start, and Sainz is ahead of Leclerc too! Gasly ahead of O'Ward, then Norris, Verstappen, Colapinto and Pourchaire in your top ten!

#

FASTEST LAP - PIASTRI

#

Piastri goes for the lead, PIASTRI TAKES THE LEAD OFF RUSSELL!!! That was a lovely move!

Leclerc back into P3, ahead of Sainz!

#

(LEC) "Visibility is...very very poor."

(BOZ) "Copy that Charles, we are expecting Class 2 to 3 rain throughout."

(LEC) "Copy. Must be the water, mustn't it."

(BOZ) (laughing) "Of course"

#

While the former Champion's got jokes, he's closing the gap to Russell for P2.

Aron, down in P14, runs wide!!! Won't help his underfloor, that!

#

(BON) "And currently P1, Russell 0.7 behind, Charles 0.3 behind him, then 1.7 to Sainz."

(PIA) "Yeah, copy. Some work to do, then."

#

Gasly and Norris both move ahead of O'Ward, some very good teamwork by the McLarens!

#

Piastri has opened up a bit of an advantage here, 1.9 over Russell. Leclerc still trying to find his way past the Red Bull in second.

#

(BOZ) "Gap to Oscar is 3.2 and growing. Let's see if we can get this move done the next couple of laps."

(LEC) "Yep, Copy. Difficult with Sainz in my wing mirrors, but I'll go for it"

#

Leclerc has done exactly that!!! He goes round the side of Russell, and takes P2!! Sainz follows him through as well, to take P3, and now the two former Ferrari teammates are battling for that second spot!

#

Sainz is going for P2 and Sainz takes P2 off Leclerc!!

And in this fighting for second, Piastri now 4 seconds ahead!

#

Antonelli overtakes Colapinto, he's into the points!

#

FASTEST LAP - SAINZ

#

Ocon is struggling a bit and has dropped well out of the points and down to P17!

#

POURCHAIRE GOES AQUAPLANING!!! He's out of P9 and out of the points!!! He's managed to get the car going again but drops all the way to the back of the pack!

#

Leclerc back on the attack on Sainz, but Sainz is defending well!

#

Bottas the latest to fall victim to the water here as he also goes aquaplaning, he avoids the gravel and just loses one position, but not ideal for the Aston, who drops to P20!

#

FASTEST LAP - NORRIS

#

Verstappen now up to P7, with Antonelli ahead of O'Ward for P8!

#

Norris up to P5, ahead of McLaren teammate Gasly!

#

PITSTOP: An early stop for Pourchaire who puts on FULL WETS. Well, this'll be an interesting litmus test for the rest of the field.

#

PITSTOP: Hadjar is also opting for the full Wets! Will this pay off for the Williams! The rain IS getting heavier!

#

PITSTOPS: Verstappen, O'Ward, Aron and Perez all onto the Wets!

Bottas getting caught out again as he locks up once more!

#

(BOZ) "So we'll box, box"

(PIA) "Copy, box"

#

PITSTOPS: Both Piastri and Norris going onto the Wets! Sainz and Leclerc staying out on the Ints for now!

#

(BOZ) "And full push Charles, full push."

#

Both Sainz and Leclerc are gambling on the weather reducing!!

#

PIASTRI IS CLOSING THOUGH, he overtakes Leclerc, then Sainz, to retake the lead!!!

#

Lap 31 and the weather is now reducing! Will Piastri have to pit again for the Ints?

#

LECLERC WITH THE OVERTAKE ON SAINZ!! He is up to P2!!!

#

PITSTOP: Antonelli, who didn't switch tyres in the heavy rain, now going Intermediates to Intermediates. He exits in P13!

#

(BOZ) "Box this lap, box this lap"

(LEC) "Box!"

#

PITSTOPS: Leclerc in, Sainz in! A 2.305 stop for Leclerc, and he's out ahead of Sainz! Just!

#

(BOZ) "Box Oscar, Box for new inters. Very slippy in the box."

(PIA) "Yeah."

#

PITSTOP: Piastri in! A 2.089 stop and he rejoins P4, but all three ahead are on Wets!

#

PITSTOPS: Verstappen and Gasly both in to remove the Wets and get back onto the Ints! Verstappen P6, Gasly P9!

Sainz back ahead of Leclerc for P2!

#

PITSTOP: Russell is and onto the Ints!!

Piastri retakes the lead from Norris, who is still on the Wets!!!

#

PITSTOP: Norris pits for new Ints, and he rejoins P6.

Leclerc into P2!! Piastri now about 6.8 ahead of his teammate, however.

#

Gasly having power issues, and that might hurt McLaren's chances of double points today!

Leclerc can't shake Sainz who takes P2 off him again!

#

FASTEST LAP - OCON

#

Both Williams have battled into the points. Antonelli P8, Hadjar currently P9.

#

Lap 51: Piastri, Sainz, Leclerc, Russell, Norris, Verstappen, Gasly, Antonelli, Hadjar, O'Ward, Colapinto, Ocon, Bearman, Maloney, Aron, Pourchaire, Pérez, Herta, Staněk, Bottas, Tsunoda, Ricciardo

#

Leclerc back into 2nd!

#

CONTACT BETWEEN BOTTAS AND POURCHAIRE!!!! Bottas locked up and ran into the back of the Subaru driver!!! Awful, awful day for both drivers.

#

(PIA) "There is rain everywhere now on the circuit. A lot of rain"

(BON) "Copy Oscar, keep at it. 15 laps to go. Just keep an eye on those temps."

#

SAINZ RETAKES P2 FROM LECLERC!

#

Leclerc back in front of Sainz!

Tsunoda struggling a lot with his ERS! He's able to continue on for now at least.

#

COLAPINTO GOING FOR AN OVERTAKE ON TSUNODA, WHO HE WAS LAPPING, AND THE TWO MAKE CONTACT!! Tsunoda has a puncture!!!

#

PENALTY - CAR 22 (TSUNODA)

Tsunoda found to be the guilty party for that incident!!

PITSTOP: Tsunoda pits immediately, takes that penalty, and he's put in new Ints. A distant P22 and two laps down. An awful season for last year's Constructors runners-up.

#

3 laps to go!

#

Piastri 8 clear of Leclerc, who is now 6 clear of Sainz, with Russell 7 back. That's how this is going to finish most likely

#

FINAL LAP

#

It's been a brilliant, dominant performance from Oscar Piastri, it has never really been in doubt here, as he goes on to take the final corners, OSCAR PIASTRI WINS THE AUSTRIAN GRAND PRIX in the pouring rain here!!! His sixth win of the season, Ferrari's race winning Streak extends to 34!!

#

ANDY COWELL LEAVES POSITION AS ASTON MARTIN TEAM PRINCIPAL

Huge breaking news ahead of the Belgian GP, as Andy Cowell is OUT as Aston Martin Team Principal.

Just one year after leading the team to second in the Constructors, Aston Martin have floundered and currently sit eighth on just 15 points this season, tied with Mercedes.

And Cowell has reportedly had a massive falling out with team owner Lawrence Stroll, and the team and Cowell have mutually agreed to part ways.

BELGIAN GRAND PRIX 2030
WEEKEND PREVIEW

With just two races to go until the Summer Break, we head to the first part of a Benelux Double Header, and one of the most iconic circuits in Formula 1 - Spa-Francorchamps. The third Sprint Weekend of the season, so what should we expect?

ROUND 11:
BELGIAN GRAND PRIX
Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, Francorchamps, Stavelot, Wallonia, Belgium
July 19 - 21, 2030
Length: 7.004km
Turns: 19
Laps: 44
Support Events: F1 Sprint Weekend, F2, F3

#

LAST TIME AROUND:

Ferrari's Sunday winning Streak extended to 34, as Oscar Piastri coasted home for his sixth win of the season in the rain in Austria. Charles Leclerc had a fight for P2 with Carlos Sainz and managed to overcome him, but Piastri extended his Championship advantage to 16 points. Sainz took third for Red Bull, while Lando Norris beat out George Russell for fourth. Pierre Gasly was sixth, ahead of Kimi Antonelli, Pato O'Ward put more points on the board for Audi, Isack Hadjar scored points again, and Max Verstappen ended up tenth.

#

THE CIRCUIT

Located in Francorchamps, Stavelot, Wallonia, the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps - or Spa - was built back in 1921 and is one of the oldest circuits on the calendar. The 7.004 km, 19 turn circuit is the longest lap of the season, and as a result, has the least amount of laps - just 44. This circuit features that famous long run up to Eau Rouge, one of the most thrilling moments of any Formula 1 season, as well as famous corners such as La Source and the Bus Stop Chicane. A circuit that focuses on Low and High Speed Cornering, as well as a strong straight-line speed, is a must this weekend. With a Sprint to come this weekend and rain likely on the Friday, this is always one of the most anticipated, and usually unpredictable, race weekends of the season.

#

STORYLINES WE ARE WATCHING THIS WEEKEND

CAN FERRARI MAKE IT 35 WINS IN A ROW?

Ferrari are currently sitting on an almighty record 34 race wins in a row, stretching back almost two full calendar years at this point - smashing Red Bull's record of just 15 between Abu Dhabi 2022 and Italy 2023 - Ferrari have not lost a race on a Sunday since Saudi Arabia 2028. The unpredictably of Belgium is often a challenge though - Carlos Sainz won this race for Red Bull back in 2028, for example, Red Bull's last Sunday win to date - and Ferrari come in with updates in the pipeline, but not likely to be introduced until their home race of Monza. With Oscar Piastri and Charles Leclerc's attention on their own Drivers’ Championship battle - Piastri leads Leclerc by 16 points coming into this weekend - could an opportunity be on the table for the chasing pack?

#

WHAT OF THE CHASING PACK?

So, out of the chasing pack, who are favourites to potentially challenge for the victory this weekend? McLaren's Lando Norris and the two Red Bulls of Carlos Sainz and George Russell would probably be first in line, but could the likes of Pierre Gasly or Max Verstappen be up there as well? McLaren and Red Bull might harbour hopes of a potential challenge this weekend, while Williams are bringing major upgrades with hopes that this could bring them to the front of the grid. With Ferrari not upgrading until Monza and several teams pushing ahead with their upgrades for Spa, could this be the weekend the Streak gets broken?

#

WHAT NOW FOR ASTON MARTIN AFTER COWELL'S DEPARTURE?

The shock news from this weekend was the departure of Aston Martin Team Principal Andy Cowell, just seven months after he lead the team to a stunning second in the Constructors Championship - creative differences with team owner Lawrence Stroll has led to his departure. With no news of a permanent replacement as Team Principal - Sporting Director Tim Goss is taking the role on a temporary basis until further notice - what is next for the beleaguered British Racing Green? A good result this weekend would be a massive step forward for them, and for drivers Yuki Tsunoda and Valtteri Bottas, would be a massive boost in confidence. In the first race of the post Cowell era, what can Aston do?

#

PRESSURE FOR THE FOUR OUT OF CONTRACT

Four drivers are looking at their Formula 1 futures going into the summer break - Red Bull's Carlos Sainz, Williams’ Andrea Kimi Antonelli, Mercedes’ Paul Aron and Andretti's Daniel Ricciardo. Ricciardo is expected to retire after this year, so he will likely make way off the grid, while Antonelli and Sainz are both expected to stay on the grid, although both Red Bull and Mercedes are said to be interested in signing the Italian driver - in Mercedes’ case, it would be a return to the team. Sainz has made a strong case for staying at Red Bull, but if not, where could he end up? A return to Mercedes? Williams? Or even Andretti? As for Paul Aron, he seems to be fighting for his F1 career after just a single season, after struggling throughout most of his rookie year. With some hotly tipped potential rookies to come through, including the likes of Rafael Câmara, Dayton Coulthard and Arvid Lindblad, as well as Liam Lawson and Gabriel Bortoleto trying to find their way back to the F1 grid, this could be a very intriguing transfer window. Belgium may be a last chance to impress.

And so to Spa, and Belgium, and the Sprint Weekend. Always a massively intriguing weekend and with just two weekends to go until the Summer Break, a chance to impress, especially for those out of contract. One thing's for sure - you won't want to miss it.

FP1 Reserves: Mercedes - Wharton (Aron), Alpine - Beganovic (Perez), Williams - Araya (Hadjar), Aston Martin - Miní (Tsunoda)

FREE PRACTICE 1 CLASSIFICATION

Oscar PIASTRI (Ferrari)
Zane MALONEY (Audi)
Pierre GASLY (McLaren)

Charles LECLERC (Ferrari) - P4

Piastri quickest in the first and only practice session in the rain, ahead of Maloney and Gasly. Leclerc fourth, with Norris fifth and Verstappen sixth. Russell seventh, while Mini and Araya went eighth and ninth. Bearman tenth.

#

Welcome to Friday afternoon in Belgium, and it is time for the Sprint Shootout to determine the grid for tomorrow's Sprint! And it is raining quite heavily here, it feels like it's anyone's game and you're going to have to get the timing exactly spot on with this long circuit and not much time to set a laptime. This could be fascinating.

Welcome to Spa and it is game on this weekend! After a wet and windy Friday, it's all clear here in Stavelot for the Sprint on the Saturday. 15 laps of this 7.004km circuit, no mandatory pitstops, plenty of good racing with two DRS Zones, and occasionally some chaos as well into the bargain as well.

#

Valtteri Bottas and Daniel Ricciardo will start on the back row, Paul Aron and Andrea Kimi Antonelli are on row ten, both out of contract at the end of this year so a lot of pressure here. Colton Herta starts 18th with Lando Norris just 17th after a shock SQ1 exit, Pierre Gasly one spot ahead of his teammate alongside compatriot Isack Hadjar. The two Alpines on row seven, might they have a shot at points? Roman Staněk just ahead of Sergio Pérez. Carlos Sainz starts 12th with Zane Maloney 11th, then on row five, old rivals George Russell and Max Verstappen. Théo Pourchaire just ahead of his teammate then Ollie Bearman as Mercedes search for much needed points. Yuki Tsunoda starts 6th, his highest start of the year, with Pato O'Ward fifth, then it's the two Haas drivers on row two! Esteban Ocon starts 4th with Franco Colapinto 3rd, and Ferrari lock out the front row. Oscar Piastri lines up second, with Charles Leclerc on Sprint Pole.

Welcome to the midway point of the 2030 Formula 1 season, and we go racing again in Belgium, and Red Bull might have their best shot of breaking the Ferrari Streak. 35 race weekends since Ferrari last didn't win a race, could it be today where that ends? 7.004km circuit, 44 laps, it is the shortest number of laps and the longest circuit of the season. 2 DRS Zones, often some chaos, what will Belgium bring this year?

#

Paul Aron starts from the pitlane which means Daniel Ricciardo begins alone on the back row, it is Colton Herta and Zane Maloney on row ten, then Roman Staněk and somewhat surprisingly, Pato O'Ward in P17. Pierre Gasly starts 16th with Valtteri Bottas in 15th, the two Subarus are on row seven with Max Verstappen just 13th and Théo Pourchaire 14th. Sergio Perez is 12th and World Champion Oscar Piastri was a shock Q2 exit, so he starts 11th. Yuki Tsunoda just inside the top ten after his Q3 crash and Oliver Bearman begins 9th, George Russell 8th and Franco Colapinto, who was 4th in the Sprint, starts 7th. The two Williams on the third row and an incredible opportunity for more points for them, Isack Hadjar lines up 5th, Kimi Antonelli 6th. Esteban Ocon starts from 4th while it's 3rd for Lando Norris, Charles Leclerc starts on the front row, and it is the fourth Pole of the season for Carlos Sainz, but first since Türkiye.

#

Formation lap completed here in Belgium, we are about to go racing

#

One light, two, three, four, five...AND IT'S LIGHTS OUT AND AWAY WE GO!

#

(BON) "Good job Oscar. Keep at it."

(PIA) "Sweet. Will do."

#

Leclerc meanwhile is going for the lead here and he takes the lead from Sainz!!! Norris also moves ahead of his former teammate!!

#

(LEC) "Woo hoo!"

(BOZ) "Good job Charles, good move."

#

Leclerc now has Norris to deal with up front! Piastri gets ahead of Colapinto and he's up to P8!

#

Piastri overtakes Russell and Hadjar in quick succession, and he moves up to P6!!

Norris however is going for the lead and that was a fantastic move to take the lead!

#

Piastri flying through the midfield now, he makes short work of Antonelli for P5!

#

LECLERC AND NORRIS SIDE BY SIDE INTO EAU ROUGE, AND LECLERC TAKES THE LEAD BACK!

2030 DUTCH GRAND PRIX
WEEKEND PREVIEW

We head towards Zandvoort and the final race before the Summer Break, and with the final stretch of the season approaching, the Drivers’ Championship battle is separated by just eight points. What will the final race before the break bring us?

ROUND 12:
DUTCH GRAND PRIX
Circuit Zandvoort, Zandvoort, North Holland, Netherlands
July 26 - 28, 2030
Length: 4.259km
Turns: 15
Laps: 72
Support Events: F2, F3, F1 Academy

#

LAST TIME AROUND

Charles Leclerc took his fifth win of the season in Belgium to lower the gap to Oscar Piastri to just eight points. Piastri held off George Russell for second, while Esteban Ocon just missed out on a first ever Haas podium. Théo Pourchaire was fifth ahead of Valtteri Bottas, who got some much needed points for Aston Martin, while Isack Hadjar was seventh. Sergio Pérez took Alpine's first points of the year, Lando Norris was ninth, and Pato O'Ward got the final point.

#

THE CIRCUIT

The Orange Army descend on Circuit Zandvoort again to support local hero, Subaru's Max Verstappen. The Circuit Zandvoort is a 4.259km track situated in the dunes North of Zandvoort, about 35km (or 22 miles) west of Amsterdam. It is best known for its high banked corners and fast, sweeping corners, including Tarzanbocht, named for the nickname of a local who wanted a corner named after him in order to give up his vegetable patch to allow the Circuit to be built. His name adorns the most famous corner on the circuit and is a prime overtaking spot, with a long DRS run into it, one of two DRS Zones around this 14 turn, 72 lap circuit.

#

STORYLINES WE ARE WATCHING THIS WEEKEND

Max's Return: Max Verstappen returns home to Zandvoort in the midst of a difficult season for Subaru, and with his contract expiring at the end of next season, will he look towards pastures new after next year?

The Championship Battle: Just eight points between Charles Leclerc and Oscar Piastri after the former's win at Spa. Who will take the momentum going into the Summer Break?

Who will take the Aston Martin Job?: Aston Martin are looking for a permanent new Team Principal after the exit of Andy Cowell. Tim Goss will take temporary charge once again, and is expected to remain in charge until the end of the year, but a full-time Team Principal is expected to be appointed before the end of the season.

Last Chance to impress before the Summer Break: Carlos Sainz, Andrea Kimi Antonelli, Paul Aron and Daniel Ricciardo find themselves out of contract at the end of the season. Ricciardo has already announced his retirement, while Sainz and Antonelli are expected to sign long-term deals - but where? As for Paul Aron, a last chance to save his spot on the grid for next year.

Can Alpine build momentum?: Alpine got their first points of the year through Sergio Pérez. Can Guenther Steiner's team finally build some momentum after what has been an incredibly difficult 2030 season so far?

And so to Zandvoort, the final race of the first part of the season. One thing is for sure - you won't want to miss it.

#

FP1: Ferrari will run Dunne and Câmara. Câmara is in the running for a seat next year, want Dunne to get experience

#

FP1 CLASSIFICATION

Carlos SAINZ (Red Bull)
Lando NORRIS (McLaren)

Alexander DUNNE (Ferrari) - P4

Just a fantastic audition for Rafa Câmara, who goes fastest overall! Sainz and Norris 2nd and 3rd, with Dunne Fourth. Home hero Verstappen P5, with Russell 6th and Bottas 7th. Colapinto 8th, while Pourchaire took 9th and Wharton 10th.

#

Maloney, Tsunoda, and of course, Verstappen are carrying penalties for this weekend after crashes in Belgium

#

ANOTHER VSC AT TURN 3. Antonelli is off this time and he's out of this session! Thankfully OK, but that's the end of his session!

#

ANOTHER VSC. TURN 3 WITH ANOTHER ONE. Pourchaire slides off and completely wrecks the side of his car!! He's OK but his Friday ends a few minutes early!

#

FP2 CLASSIFICATION

Charles LECLERC (Ferrari)
Oscar PIASTRI (Ferrari)
Carlos SAINZ (Red Bull)

Leclerc goes quickest in FP2 ahead of Piastri, with Sainz third. Ocon takes fourth with Bearman fifth, while Russell was sixth and Norris seventh. Maloney, Pérez and Stânek complete the top ten. Two VSCs in FP2 - Antonelli and Pourchaire both crashed at Turn 3.

#

Max VERSTAPPEN (Subaru)
Oscar PIASTRI (Ferrari)

Leclerc again quickest in FP3, with Piastri third, some home hope as Verstappen takes second, but he does have a penalty to contend with. Sainz fourth with Norris fifth and Gasly sixth. Ocon seventh, Aron gets a much needed eighth, while Russell is ninth and Hadjar tenth.

#

It's time to go Qualifying down by the beach. The sand dunes of Zandvoort welcomes Formula 1 this weekend, and while there's a lot of support for Max Verstappen around these parts, Ferrari remain favourites for this weekend. Can they extend their winning Streak to 36, or can the chasing pack catch up? Let's see what qualifying brings us.

A shocker for Sainz and Red Bull as he drops out in Q1! Bottas also out in Q1, and Maloney couldn't put the lap together to get out of Q1 either. Ricciardo and Herta both exit, and pressure continues on Aron who is last. Norris quickest from Leclerc and Piastri.

#

#

Well, let's go racing again then. We head to the Summer Break after this one, Round 12 of the 2030 Formula 1 season, and we're at Zandvoort, the tenth Dutch Grand Prix to be held here. 72 laps of this 4.259km circuit, could well be a one stop, more likely will be a two stopper. And we have a shock Polesitter, Haas start 1-3, will we see their first podium? Will we have a new Championship leader after today? So many questions to be answered.

#

Pato O'Ward starts from the pitlane leaving teammate Zane Maloney alone on the back row, it's Paul Aron and Colton Herta on row ten, Yuki Tsunoda takes a penalty to drop to the ninth row alongside Daniel Ricciardo. Valtteri Bottas starts 16th, Max Verstappen has a penalty for his home race so he starts 15th. Carlos Sainz went out in Q1 but is promoted to 14th with Roman Staněk starting 13th, it's 12th for Kimi Antonelli and 11th for Sergio Pérez. Théo Pourchaire lines up P10 while defending Champion Oscar Piastri begins from 9th, Pierre Gasly alongside Ollie Bearman on the fourth row. Isack Hadjar starts from 6th while George Russell is up in 5th, Lando Norris begins 4th and Franco Colapinto has his highest career start in 3rd. Charles Leclerc starts on the front row with a real opportunity to take the lead in the Championship, Esteban Ocon with a huge Pole Position for Haas, could he shock the world and win today?

#

As the cars round the circuit for the formation lap, this is a fascinating situation. Both Haas cars start in the top three. Leclerc splits them. Piastri down in P9. What will this race bring us?

#

Cars in place...one light, two, three, four, five...AND IT'S LIGHTS OUT AND AWAY WE GO!

#

Ocon is away well at the front, as is Leclerc, Colapinto follows, then Norris, Russell, Bearman ahead of Hadjar, Piastri is up ahead of Gasly, Pourchaire in P10!

#

FASTEST LAP - BEARMAN

#

Ocon and Leclerc have broken away from Colapinto, this could be huge already for Leclerc.

Particularly as Piastri is now past Bearman and into P7!

#

Leclerc gets DRS and gets the lead of this race!!

Norris now up to P3 ahead of Colapinto!

#

FASTEST LAP - LECLERC

#

(BON) "Pace is still good, let's keep it up. Let's go for it here."

#

Piastri goes round the outside of Hadjar, he's up to P6!

#

Leclerc still holding Ocon off for the lead on Lap 6!

#

(BOZ) "And you can push now, let's open up that gap and see if we can break DRS."

(LEC) "Copy that."

#

Norris, Russell, Piastri, Hadjar are all ahead of Colapinto, who seems to be struggling for pace!!

His teammate Ocon isn't though, as Ocon retakes the lead!!!

Tsunoda complaining about gearbox issues.

#

Leclerc once again finds the front!!

#

Hadjar retakes P5 from Piastri, that was a fantastic move!

#

Hadjar having to defend from both Piastri and Bearman, he holds off Bearman but Piastri uses the chance to get past and back into P5!

#

As we took that, Piastri got ahead of Russell and into P4!

#

Russell goes round the outside to take it back however!

#

Piastri gets Russell again for P4!!

Norris just behind Ocon, going for P2, and he takes P2 from Ocon!!!

#

Norris starting to catch Leclerc here, that McLaren has some real pace this weekend! We could be for a fight for the race lead!

#

PITSTOPS: Russell and Colapinto in, Alpine decide to double stack...and it did not go well. Stânek has to wait while Pérez gets his tyres changed, then Stânek gets into the box to get his tyres changed. Not great from them.

#

Leclerc reopens the gap to 2.6 from Norris. The Ferrari needed that burst of pace.

#

PITSTOPS: Hadjar and Bearman next to enter the pitlane...Mercedes are also double stacking, but unlike Alpine, they had the distance between their two drivers to do it successfully. O'Ward also pits.

#

OCON SPINS OFF AT TARZANBOCHT!!!! Heartbreaking for he Pole sitter, who drops to P4. Piastri up to P3.

#

PITSTOPS: Norris, Antonelli and Sainz all in! Norris takes Mediums, Antonelli and Sainz onto a second set of Softs.

#

(BOZ) "Norris just pit, so box this lap to cover."

(LEC) "Copy, box."

#

PITSTOP: LECLERC IN from the lead. Piastri now takes the lead, a 2.151 stop for Leclerc! He rejoins, crucially ahead of Norris!

#

(BON) "So, box, box."

(PIA) "Copy, box."

(BON) "Full pace until the pit."

#

PITSTOP. Piastri in from the lead!!! A 1.961 stop and that was stunning work by Ferrari!!! Ocon now retakes the lead, but he's yet to pit.

#

(BOZ) "And Ocon 1.1 ahead, he has yet to pit."

(LEC) "Yeah, copy."

#

Piastri overtakes Russell for P6!

#

Leclerc gets DRS and makes light work of Ocon, who is struggling on the tyres!

#

Leclerc ran a little deep into that corner, a fantastic save to not end up in the wall!!

#

PITSTOPS: Ocon, Verstappen and Gasly all pit! Ocon now P11, Verstappen P12, Fasly P15. Chances are that Haas' podium chances have disappeared somewhat now!

#

FASTEST LAP - OCON

#

(BON) "And we'll push, see if you can catch Norris. 6.2 ahead."

#

PITSTOP: Russell making the second stop early, and putting on Mediums. 40 laps on Mediums is still a massive, massive ask.

#

PIASTRI RIGHT IN NORRIS' WING MIRRORS, PIASTRI WITH A FANTASTIC MOVE TO TAKE P2!!

#

(BON) "Brilliant move Oscar! Charles now 8 seconds ahead."

#

Verstappen up to P6 BTW, having started P15.

#

Piastri has closed the tap to Leclerc to 6.5. Could he be on for a third consecutive DOTD? Could he challenge for the win?

#

PITSTOP: Colapinto stops for the second time and switches to the Hards. He's down from P5 to P11.

#

PITSTOP: Verstappen makes his final stop of the day and goes onto the Hards. He rejoins P12.

#

PITSTOP: Norris making his second stop! He's onto the Softs and rejoins P10, just ahead of teammate Gasly.

#

(BOZ) "And box, box, box this lap"

(LEC) "Box"

#

(BON) "And we will be boxing this lap"

(PIA) "Yeah, box"

#

PITSTOPS: Leclerc in from the lead! Ferrari are double stacking with Piastri in too! 2.182 for Leclerc, 2.111 for Piastri!! Ocon also comes in! Leclerc rejoins P2, Piastri P5, Ocon P10.

#

Carlos Sainz is the new race leader! He's on much more used Softs than Leclerc's fresh set, however.

#

FASTEST LAP - LECLERC

Leclerc clocks the fastest lap and gets himself ahead of Sainz, retaking the lead of the race in the process!

RED BULL, McLAREN AND MERCEDES ALL IN FOR VERSTAPPEN

Max Verstappen will have plenty of choice when he comes to his next career move.

Verstappen has opted to leave Subaru at the end of the season after three years with the team, having joined them from Red Bull in 2028. He was initially contracted to 2031, but has opted out of his final year with the Japanese team.

Verstappen's former team Red Bull are said to be keen on a reunion, however they are said to have competition from Mercedes and McLaren.

Mercedes have Verstappen's former teammate Oliver Bearman signed up for at least another season, but rookie Paul Aron is expected to leave after just a single season with the team.

McLaren meanwhile have Lando Norris signed long term, another former teammate of Verstappen's, but Pierre Gasly is under threat of being dropped.

As for Red Bull, they have an empty seat with Carlos Sainz out of contract. Sainz has performed well this season however, and was up for renewal before this news broke.

More as we get it on this huge breaking news.

SIGNIFICANT UNREST AT ASTON MARTIN - COULD DRIVER LINE-UP CHANGE BE IN WORKS?

Aston Martin have had a very difficult season. Expected to be Ferrari's closest challengers alongside Red Bull, the team have instead toiled in P8 in the Constructors, and Team Principal Andy Cowell has departed from the team.

We have been told today to expect potential changes at the British Racing Green. With a new Team Principal in discussions, the new TP is said to want "changes in the driver line-up for 2031."

What to expect from this? Well, both Valtteri Bottas AND Yuki Tsunoda could potentially be moving on at the end of this season.

One to keep an eye on.

VALTTERI BOTTAS TO RETIRE AT END OF 2030 SEASON

Seems like the decision has been taken out of Aston Martin's hands.

Valtteri Bottas has announced his retirement from Formula 1 at the end of the 2030 season, saying "he's done enough, and had enough."

Bottas was vice-Champion twice for Mercedes in 2019 and 2020, and finished Third in last year's Championship. However, a difficult 2030 season has seen him, and Aston Martin, struggle, and Bottas has called time on his career.

Bottas has driven for Williams, Mercedes, Alfa Romeo/Sauber and Aston Martin, having joined Aston in 2025 and been with the team for six seasons.

"No regrets, but it is time to let the new generation take over.

What's next?"

MALONEY UNDER PRESSURE TO PERFORM AT AUDI

Some breaking summer window news as Zane Maloney's seat at the team could be under pressure.

The Barbadian driver is in his second season at Audi, and some within the team feel he hasn't progressed as well as they'd like.

Audi are aiming to compete at the front, and they may look to make a potential driver switch for next season if Maloney continues to struggle.

Rumours say that Audi may look at the upcoming rookie crop for 2031. F2 Championship leader and Red Bull junior Chloe Grant is being discussed, as is her fellow Red Bull junior Arvid Lindblad, as well as Ferrari Academy pair Rafael Câmara and Dayton Coulthard,

#

GASLY TO EXIT McLAREN AT END OF SEASON BY MUTUAL CONSENT

A shock bit of news has just broken however, as Pierre Gasly and McLaren have agreed to part ways at the end of the 2030 season.

Gasly has opted to move on from McLaren, with the team in discussions to sign Max Verstappen.

And Gasly has chosen to make the move now rather than wait around for the decision to be let go.

Gasly has struggled in the McLaren this year, and finds himself with 18 points, while teammate Lando Norris has 126 and sits fifth in the Championship.

Rumours have it that Gasly may have his next seat already lined up, but those are unsubstantiated at this point.

More as we get it.

After a convincing win from Charles Leclerc, Ferrari's Streak is at 36, and their drivers are tied in the Championship. As we return from the Summer Break and head to their home race, what will the Temple of Speed bring us this weekend?

ROUND 13:
ITALIAN GRAND PRIX
Autodromo Nazionale di Monza, Monza, Lombardy, Italy
August 30 - September 1, 2030
Length: 5.783km
Turns: 15
Laps: 53
Support Events: F2, F3, F1 Academy

#

LAST TIME AROUND

In the last race before the Summer Break, Charles Leclerc dominated at Zandvoort to take win number six and go level at the top of the table with Oscar Piastri, with Piastri finishing second. Lando Norris held off Carlos Sainz for third, while Esteban Ocon, who took a shock Pole Position, ended up fifth, just missing out on Haas’ first ever podium. George Russell was sixth with Kimi Antonelli seventh, and Franco Colapinto eighth. Max Verstappen could only take ninth on home soil, while Isack Hadjar took the final point.

#

THE SUMMER BREAK

Eventful. No signings officially announced as of yet but seven teams are now looking for a new driver, and one might still join them, with only Ferrari, Haas, Alpine and maybe Audi being set on their 2031 lineups. The major breaking story was that Max Verstappen will leave Subaru at the end of the season, with former team Red Bull, McLaren and Mercedes all in play. Valtteri Bottas announced his retirement during the summer break, meaning Aston Martin are now searching for his replacement. Pierre Gasly and McLaren announced a mutual consent split at the end of the year, with Gasly expected to already have his new team lined up, but that remains unannounced as of this moment. Carlos Sainz remains in discussions with Red Bull, while Kimi Antonelli remains in hot demand as Williams try to hold onto their prize asset. All in all, quite an eventful Summer.

#

THE CIRCUIT

“The Temple of Speed” takes its latest foray in a rich Formula 1 history, reaching its 100th Italian Grand Prix this weekend. Monza is the fifth oldest motor racing Grand Prix in history (after France, USA, Spain and Russia), and as of this year, is the oldest remaining race on the calendar - although racing in the US remains in the form of Las Vegas. Every single Italian Grand Prix of the World Championship era has been right here at Monza, with one exception - 1980 in Imola. The Temple of Speed, the 5.793km circuit, is known for long straights and fast corners, including the famous Parabolica, the final corner of the circuit, and a sea of Red as the Tifosi travel from all over the world to visit their racing cathedral. Charles Leclerc has the most wins in this race's history, with six, while Oscar Piastri became the latest Ferrari driver to win the race last year - the first not named Charles Leclerc in 19 years, when Fernando Alonso won here in 2010.

#

STORYLINES THAT WE ARE WATCHING THIS WEEKEND

History, Scuderia Ferrari: Ferrari are obviously the main talking point around Monza and they look to extend their historic Sunday winning Streak to 37. With upgrades brought with this race in mind, can Leclerc take his seventh win or Piastri his second in that famous red suit around here?

The Championship Fight: Speaking of Leclerc and Piastri, they enter the weekend completely tied on 276 points. With George Russell on 151 in third, the title battle is once again between the two Ferraris. The run-in begins here. Can Piastri retain his title and become a two-time Champion, or will Leclerc get his fifth?

Max's Move: Now we know Max Verstappen is leaving Subaru at the end of this season, the question is, where next for the three-time Champion? A reunion with Red Bull could be on the cards, but Mercedes are pushing hard to sign Verstappen, and McLaren might be in the mix as well. In the meantime, Verstappen looks to get the best out of a lost season.

Gasly lines up his switch: Pierre Gasly also is on the move, having announced his departure from McLaren. But we don't know anything else apart from that - rumours have it his former team Alpine could be in for him, as well as Subaru and Aston Martin.

Bottas begins his farewell: Valtteri Bottas is beginning his final nine races in Formula 1, as he announced his retirement during the Summer Break. Having finished runner-up twice and third last year, Bottas looks to sign off on a good note.

Maloney under pressure: With Audi looking for their next step forwards towards Championship contention, Zane Maloney's seat is warming up - could the team make a switch to one of the upcoming rookie class? Maloney could do with a big performance this weekend to prove he's worth keeping around for 2031.

And so we head to Monza. The Temple of Speed is expected to be sunny all weekend, and will make for an entertaining showcase. And one thing's for sure - you won't want to miss it.

Welcome to the 100th Italian Grand Prix. A historic day for a historic circuit. And with Ferrari looking for a continuing record-breaking 37th victory in a row, this time on home soil, they begin in good stead with a front row lock-out. Around this 5.793km circuit we go for 53 racing laps, 2 DRS Zones, should make for some sensational racing, but will we see another Ferrari win, or can someone break the Streak?

#

Roman Stânek starts at the very back alongside Zane Maloney who suddenly finds himself under pressure at Audi, Daniel Ricciardo starts his final Italian Grand Prix from 20th, he won here nine years ago, alongside Sergio Pérez. Colton Herta and Pierre Gasly on row nine, Yuki Tsunoda and Isack Hadjar on row eight, Valtteri Bottas begins the final stretch of his F1 career in P14 and Franco Colapinto missed Q3 for the first time since Germany. Paul Aron starts P12 with his immediate future in question, Kimi Antonelli potentially on the move as well and he starts P11. George Russell starts from 10th with Esteban Ocon 9th, then it's Max Verstappen who's leaving Subaru at the end of the season alongside Lando Norris on row four. Oliver Bearman and Théo Pourchaire start on row three, it's Pato O'Ward fourth and Carlos Sainz lining up third, and a Ferrari front row lockout. The two are tied on points going into this race, defending Champion Oscar Piastri starts P2, and it is Pole Position for Charles Leclerc.

#

As the cars head round for the formation lap here, it is, as expected, a sea of Red. The Tifosi expect. Both Leclerc and Piastri starting on the Mediums today, owing to the high tyre wear usually around Monza.

Time to go racing in Monza!
